Gazzo - Review - Neukölln - Berlin - The Infatuation

"There’s a disclosure on the Gazzo menu that their sourdough pizza is blistered, crispy, and fluffy, but it isn’t traditional—for that, head to somewhere like Mater for a Neapolitan slice. However, if you’re in Berlin because you prefer things with a bit of an edge, you’ll find it here in the chimichurri on your pizza. We’ve never been to Gazzo and not had to wait for at least half an hour, so give them your number and kill time in one of the local bars until your spot is ready. Cram in elbow-to-elbow with first dates making small talk over soft serve ice cream and order enough Brandenburg mozzarella and Padron pepper toppings to make your Italian friend squirm." - Olivia Ladanyi

Probably the best thin crust pizza in Berlin! Perhaps a MUST GO if you are looking for a Berliner experience AND pizza. An excellent dough, delicious tomato sauce, top ingredients and a super hot oven make this as perfect a pizza as you will get outside of Italy. Their soft ice cream combinations, I.e. with olive oil, salt and shortbread are surprising and outstanding! The location and the vibes of the place make the Berlin experience complete. Very friendly and efficient service and a large terrace seating make for a top guest experience.

Great place, friendly staff, delicious food, and a very well-thought-out menu with detailed descriptions of the ingredients and their origins! We've tried a pizza with anchovies and two ice creams (with olive oil and sea salt and with strawberries and basil oil), and everything was bloody delicious! Highly recommend this place.

The pizza here is good – though to be honest, I’ve had better elsewhere. What really stands out, though, is the seasonal menu and carefully curated ingredients. You can tell everything is made with love and attention to detail. But if I’m being completely honest… I mostly come here for the buffalo soft serve. It’s absolutely amazing – creamy, and just addictive!

Such beautiful, zesty, full of life sauce! A wonderful spot to enjoy a delicious and interesting pizza. The sourdough crust is unique and still ties the pizza together with fresh toppings. The Sicilian olives are a great starter and make room for the soft serve buffalo mozzarella soft serve ice cream. Yummy! The friendly staff is a delight.

This place serves seriously delicious pizza. I had the anchovy pizza, and it was the perfect balance of salty and slightly sweet. The dough is just amazing, crispy on the outside and soft inside. The outdoor seating is shared with others, so it can feel a bit tight when it’s crowded, but honestly, the pizza is so good it makes up for everything. Honestly I could eat a different one everyday

Google
We got the truffle and potato special and the spicy arrabiata pizzas and they were delicious - would highly recommend this place! A must eat in Berlin if you're craving pizza.

Google
YOU MUST TRY THE OLIVE OIL ICE CREAM!!! I would say it’s the best Pizza place in Berlin, especially since you mostly have to wait till you can get in. BUT the ice cream is the best ice cream you can get in Berlin. It‘s goated. If you have to wait for 30min + you can go to Bar Normal 2min from gazzo for very good drinks.

Google
Spectacular pizza! We ordered their special white pie with Italian truffle, potato confit, mozzarella, mascarpone and thyme. It was super flavorful with each component adding sophistication to the pie. Their margarita and bufala pies also had really good tomato sauce. For dessert their olive oil ice cream is fire. Definitely a must visit for pizza in Berlin

Yelp
We ordered pizza 2: Margarita for 8.50€ with extra Burrata cheese (+4€) = 12.50€ in total The pizza was not bad, but also not great. What we disliked: 1) The dough was not so crunchy and soft and we didn't like the sourdough flavor. It's way behind standard pizza in Prenzlauer Berg 2) +4€ for a table spoon of Burrata is too much 3) The cheese somehow did not felt like quality cheese. What's cool is that they have vegan options and the tomato sauce was not bad. The pizza overall can be a bit salty. Would be come again? Probably not because of the high competition and really average experience.

Yelp
Solid pizza in Berlin -- my favorites are the bufala which is simple and tasty, and the zucchini which has great flavor. Their negronis are great, as is the olive oil ice cream. I also find the service here to be really friendly and excellent, with some of the wait staff being particularly sweet and fun to chit chat with.

Yelp
Awesome sourdough pizza in Berlin! Do not hesitate to have the Brandenburg buffalo mozzarella instead of the organic cow mozzarella in your pizza, it's delicious. Since we were in a group we also ordered focaccia with 'nduja as a starter: best choice! (Funny enough the toilet is also quite an experience: huge poster of what looked like Cinque Terre and Pavarotti music)

Yelp
I don't think I've had sourdough pizza before. The first bite you definite noticed the tanginess of the crust, but after that you forget about it. While the crust is good, I felt Gazzo was very stingy with the toppings for 13€ price they were charging (we got the special that day which had burrata, but it only came with half a burrata..). The vibe was very trendy, almost too much so. Since I don't live close by, I probably won't be back, but it's a good option if you're in the area. Otherwise, go to Standard pizza for the same chewy thin crust and more ample toppings at the same price.

Yelp
Hey, Yesterday we had a terrible and quite disrespectful experience with this restaurant altought gazzo was one of our fav pizza places in town.Me and my close friend went there and sat without any reservation and we asked them if it was okay for us to sit right next to a reserved spot on the table and they approved it. We ordered our pizzaz, drinks etc. and 2 of our friends joined us additionally at the end of our dinner and one of the ordered her cocktail. Afterwards, they approaced us and said that it is not possible to sit more than 90 minutes in the restaurant ( while half of the restaurant was empty and we weren't even informed with such information before we sat) and they asked us to leave the place. They added that its for the sake of customer circulation ( we are talking about a proper good quality fine dining rest, not a local napolitan pizzeria where you have tons of people waiting in front to quickly get their pizza) Then I guess, they understood what kind of a lie they told and wanted to clean it however, it didn't work on us because we didn't except their impudence. So, it is deadly important to be aware that you shouldn't sit more than 90 minutes to not to get kicked out. Have a nice day.

Yelp
The food was great. Really, really great. The place is what you would expect from the Reuterkiez - it looks like Grandma moved out and no one got around to clean up the last of the rummage - the place had a slight rag shop flair. At east one wall was decorated with drawn-on pizza boxes... amongst others some intertwined human bodies with dog heads going down on each other - it keeps out the prude Americans I guess. The entire place seems to be a Neukölln hipster trough, as were the waiters. And here's the reason for 3 stars albeit the food (we had pizza and their buffalo milk soft serve - both excellent): If you think you're too cool for normal waiting staff, you shouldn't suck. The music was pumping too loud for a normal conversation (big group) but one of the 4 waitresses that took care of our table just stood at the other side of the table while one of our guys from the opposite side tried to give her his order. He eventually got up and stood next to her so she could understand him - it should be her job to come closer to the sitting guest if she has trouble taking his order. Another waitress just started speaking English (the entire table talked German all the time), assuming the people she talked to were fluent in English (they were not) and not even trying to speak German. Service like this is not worthy of a 12€ pizza, no matter how good the pizza. Still, for a large order of about 10 pizzas everything was served in about 20 minutes or so and the quality of the food was, once again, excellent. If you dig the Berlin hipster thing, go here.

Yelp
So we reserved a table, no hint for any limit. After 90 minutes we're told to leave the table after leaving a bill of 190 bucks because it's a "Booking policy" (we were told it was written in an email, we never booked online but in person 2 days before). A professional service would've offered us a table to finish drinks or even have more as we had in mind prior the incident. This place is for rip-off and a symptom of gentrification in our neighbourhood. If you look for a hipster place go for this to be kicked out after 1,5 hours. If you look for a nice spot go somewhere else. Never seen this behaviour and service in 20 years. Absolutely not recommendable and close to scam, Ryanair style.

Yelp
Good service, fresh ingredients and delicious ice cream. The pizza was too burnt for my taste. I am aware it is Napoli style, but it's not that charred in Napoli. In general good, but not exactly my cup of tea. I prefer other pizzerias in the area.

Simone B.

Yelp
The pizza is very taste, made with fresh ingredients. The best pizza I've tried in Berlin so far. Tip: call in advanced because reservation might be necessary during peak hours.
