The 17 Essential Restaurants in Columbia, Home of the University of Missouri

"There’s no shortage of sushi spots in Columbia, but head for Geisha, where boat-shaped platters of specialty rolls and nigiri fly by tables spewing dry ice smoke. The moody, elegant interior makes for a transportive experience. The restaurant doesn’t skimp on portions either, providing some of the biggest rolls on the market." - Chloe Konrad

We came in around 5:30pm on a Saturday with a group of 16. I was worried they wouldn’t be able to accommodate us, but within about 5-10 minutes they arranged things for us to sit as one large group. The atmosphere and decor was really cool. A cloud installation that lights up covers part of the ceiling along with umbrellas. Everyone’s sushi look beautiful and fresh! I wasn’t feeling like having sushi that night and got the Tonkatsu Chicken Steak. I also paid a bit extra to add shrimp. It was beautifully plated and so colorful. It was also a larger portion than I expected so I got to take the rest home for another meal. I thought the price was very reasonable for the quality and amount I received. I paid around $18-20. I highly recommend this place!

Beautiful sushi restaurant!! Dim lighting, "stormy cloud ceiling" effects, and nice wood accents throughout. I could imagine this would be a good dinner date spot. The sushi itself is well presented and there are plenty of options! Additionally, they were very accommodating to our friend with a gluten allergy. Fast and friendly service in a cool sushi restaurant with great food, would recommend!

The pork kimchi dumplings are huge and delicious. The Fried oysters are perfectly crisp. I had kimbop roll, it was divine. Also tried the shrimp tempura, very good. Tried spicy tuna and salmon. They were both okay. Didn't have the crunch some rolls have. Had a spider roll. Get outta here. It was delicious. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

I used to love this place. Loved their monkey brain avocado and spicy tuna, with a miso soup. But unfortunately this time around it wasn't good. The soup was way too salty and the monkey brain had no spicy tuna. The place has really gone downhill. My server was lovely though, but all the same I won't be back. Food quality no Bueno.

Geisha sushi has a pared down menu with a little something for everyone. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. We ordered both vegetable and pork gyoza; fried. They were hot and crispy. The dumpling sauce was absolutely amazing and I retained a sauce vessel to dunk sushi in later. The side salad was a refreshing addition. I ordered Caterpillar roll and daughter ordered The Fox roll. The presentation was everything! Both rolls were delicious, if not a little loosely rolled. The restaurant smells clean, but the floors and tables were quite sticky. The bathroom floor was like walking on a glue trap. The staff were pleasant and service was friendly and efficient. Overall, a wonderful little dinner while enjoying First Friday downtown.

Good place to stop for sushi. Flavor and atmosphere are great. We especially liked the complimentary ginger salad. Wife had the Jennifer roll, which was pretty simple but very flavorful. I had the White Tiger which I enjoyed. Both rolls came on a dry ice boat which was tops for presentation. We also got a Korean corn dog, which was filled with a stretchy cheese, and topped with sugar, cinnamon, salt and ketchup. Sounds weird, but it was pretty awesome!

Very tasty, very clean and the service was really good! Their sushi is generous with good portions and a good value for the money you pay. Definitely worth the try if you're looking for a good sushi place in Columbia.

Food is always delicious here, and staff is great. There’s a complexity of flavors in every dish; my favorites are the mango citrus salad dressings, the tonkatsu barbeque sauce, and the light wasabi Mayo on the rice. We ordered Chicken Tonkatsu, Monkey Brains, Miso and salad, Kissing the Red cocktail, and the Shawn Roll. Everything was delicious. The cold rolls are great to takeout, like the Batman Roll, but some fried rolls loose their crisp with takeout.
