17 Best Bars in Berlin

"Dark and intimate, this is one of the city's best places for cocktails. The space is raw and industrial, but it’s warmed up by the radiant glow of candles flickering away on tables and in candelabras. Most people cluster in couples and small groups of friends, talking quietly as they savor cocktails. It's a hotspot among the barhopping locals of Neukölln and neighboring Kreuzberg, though the bar is starting to catch the attention of tourists, too." - Krystin Arneson

Geist im Glas

"So what's the vibe here?Dark and intimate, this is one of the city's best places for cocktails. The space is raw and industrial, but it’s warmed up by the radiant glow of candles flickering away on tables and in candelabras. It's sexy and relaxed without trying too hard to be either. Cool. Who's drinking here? Most people cluster together as couples or small groups of friends, talking quietly as they savor cocktails. It's a hotspot among the barhopping locals of Neukölln and neighboring Kreuzberg, though the bar is starting to catch the attention of tourists, too. How are the drinks?Although beer is sold here for a very fair price (the bar is cash only, by the way), it's the cocktails that this bar has built its name on. There are plenty of classic cocktails—daiquiris, negronis, pisco sours, mezcal margaritas—plus more imaginative ones. Those who like mezcal will also find multiple options here (not always guaranteed in Berlin): The Naked and Famous, for example, involves mezcal, Chartreuse Yellow, Aperol, and lime. The best way to order is to ask what's new and then go from there—you might get a custom cocktail conjured up by one of the creative and talented bartenders. Can we order a bite to eat?A night at Geist im Glas might provoke a hangover, but the bar provides its own antidote with a delicious weekend brunch. What's the service like?Bartenders here are among Berlin's best; they have a passion for what they're doing, but they're also that rare brand of friendly staff who are happy to quiz you on your beverage preferences and create from there. (We also love that the place is female-owned.) What are we coming here for?Come here for classic cocktails with a twist in a great atmosphere. Couples and small groups congregate, but singletons will feel welcome too." - Krystin Arneson

Geist im Glas - Review - Neukölln - Berlin - The Infatuation

"This cocktail bar in Neukölln does Berlin’s best boozy brunch on the weekends inside its dark, wood-covered space. Huevos rancheros, dulce de leche pancakes, and waffles with shredded fried chicken are a welcome departure from the basic German bread-and-cheese breakfast served at many other restaurants in Berlin. Breakfast cocktails include Asian and Spanish-inspired Bloody Marys, house-mulled wine, and lemonade. Geist doesn’t take brunch reservations, so get there early (they open at 10am) to avoid the usual 30 minute+ wait." - Barbara Woolsey

9 Best Brunch Spots in Berlin | Condé Nast Traveler

"Like plenty of other bars and restaurants in the hip Kreuzkölln neighborhood, Geist im Glass features a raw aesthetic warmed by artful walls, glowing candles, and mismatched vintage furniture. The end result is beautiful in a very Berlin way, but you might well be distracted by what’s on your plate: The famed cocktail bar ventures into brunch territory on the weekends, and they do a fine job of it. With so many creative cocktails, it would be a shame to opt for standard coffee when you can go for the Coffee Crack, a potent hair-of-the-dog with coffee bean– and Madagascan vanilla–infused vodka, or the Tepache Sour, a rum take on the classic whisky sour, complete with pineapple and ginger. As for the food itself, there are only five options but the dulce de leche pancakes are something of a Berlin legend, with fluffy American-style buttermilk pancakes topped with dulce de leche and bourbon maple syrup. If you veer savory, however, the huevos rancheros are also a knockout, particularly when you add (what else?) bacon." - Krystin Arneson

Really imaginative and well made cocktails. All the classics are also available. Great atmosphere, with a no-smoking area by the bar and a lounge in the back. Service was fast and very friendly. Good playlist too. Worth making a trip to visit.

The pancakes were amazing! Today’s special was also good, though a bit too oily. Still, I would definitely order it again. My only disappointment is that they only offer filter coffee—I would’ve loved to enjoy a flat white or cappuccino with the pancakes.

Google
I finally checked off my to-go list and tried out this brunch place, and I must say, the food was a wild ride of flavor-filled goodness!! I ordered the mix plate, which included pancakes, waffles, and eggs, and it was delicious. The variety and flavors were on point. The staff were super friendly and accommodating, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The only drawback is that the food took quite a while to arrive. However, I appreciate that the menu clearly states that the food may take longer. It's a good heads up, so I would recommend not going there when you're super hungry and in a rush or you might just transform into the Incredible Hulk. I will definitely be back

Google
Brunch brunch baby!! I was surprised that you can come here not only for a drink but also for a nice brunch! It was delicious and the staff was super friendly and nice. A lot of dishes with the USA vibe: such as Biscuits and gravy 🤤 The only thing that I didn’t like was the smell of the kitchen that sped through the room and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Worth it to visit for brunch or a cocktail 😀

Google
Amazing brunch, friendly staff and yummy cocktails—what more could you wish for? This place is super cosy too! The food took a while to come (as they’ve explained in the menu), but it was so worth it. The sweet and salty brunch was incredible and also very filling :) They have a handsome dog here too, which is a big plus to me.

Unfortunately, we can not agree with the repeatedly expressed recommendation in foodblogs at all. For us, Geist im Glas is totally overhyped. Our visit was overshadowed by negative experiences from start to finish and will therefore be our last. When we arrived, a small line had already formed. We were placed on a bench and could order something to drink, while waiting for a table. Before I had even looked through the card, a red-haired waitress suddenly arrived and tore the card unannounced from my hand and gave it to other guests. We then got a table quite quickly, but then the longest waiting time ever begun. We (and also other guests next to our table) waited 90 minutes (!) for our food. Two of us had a coffee flat rate and wanted to pour themselves some coffee after no waiter cared about us. Thereupon, one of us was reprimanded in a very rude manner to refrain from doing so. This was not the only negative experience with the service. The same waitress from the beginning was also responsible for us later. Her vibes were unbearable. She seemed to absolutely hate her job and her behavior was rude and unfriendly. Surely it is not always easy to work in service. And we are also used to a somewhat rougher tone in Berlin. But if you don't like working with people at all, as she made impression, you'd better look for another job. Otherwise, you just spoil everyone's day. When the first food arrived, I had to wait another 20 minutes for my food. In the end, the wait wasn't even worth it, as the food was average at best. The prices are also quite high for the small portions. In the end, you could not even pay with a card. Our conclusion: Save your money, don't get screwed and avoid this place.

Google
Favourite brunch in the area😍 so nice to sit out with really good coffee or also alcoholic brunch drinks. I got the tiki lemonade which was sensational and a beautiful breakfast muffin. Would definitely recommend to anyone

Google
My partner and I came for Brunch on a Saturday and got a table right at the spot which we really hadn't expected. Service was super friendly. We ordered the coffee with free top ups, a breakfast tea, the smoothie of the day, a mixed plate and the sweet & salty. The food took pretty long but that was mentioned in the menu so we weren't surprised. The smoothie was good for that waiting time. The atmosphere was great and when our food came we were so so happy! Everything was delicious, our favourite was the chicken waffles! Only bummer was that they forgot to add the seasonal fruits on my pancakes. We were both absolutely stuffed so we'd actually recommend sharing something, especially if you want to try more food in Berlin!

Yelp
In a city (and country) where beer tends to reign supreme as people's poison of choice, cocktail masterpieces can often be a little hard to find for those who want their drinks to pack more of a punch. Thankfully, I recently discovered this amazing cocktail bar in Kreuzkölln. Geist im Glas embodies the Berlin that I'm in love with: industrial yet rustic and hipster cool yet sophisticated with an indie music soundtrack--maybe more Brooklyn than Berlin, but cozy nonetheless. My drinking companion and I arrived on a Thursday night and immediately found a perch along the back wall of the main room that overlooked the bar. We admired the exposed stone walls and candlelit atmosphere before going up to the bar to ask about a cocktail menu and received an answer that the female bartender was the menu. That's right: Geist im Glas only serves bespoke cocktails, meaning that the bartender asks you some questions about your liquor and flavor preferences to whip up a cocktail on the fly for you. This concept practically seems unheard of for a city with the infamous Berliner Schnauze customer service. But alas, I had some of the best and most thoughtful service in this hidden bar. And two words: infused liquors. Talk about artisanal craft cocktails! Whether your heart craves rum, vodka, whiskey, or gin, you'll find the perfect drink here. Because I love all things gin, I gravitated toward the raspberry and vanilla-infused gin all night long. I enjoyed a raspberry and vanilla gin sour (complete with some raspberry sour) and a raspberry and vanilla gimlet. I'd even go so far as to say that a visit to Berlin isn't complete without visiting this unbelievably amazing cocktail bar. Drinks aren't cheap according to Berlin standards (cocktails begin at €8.50), but you owe it to yourself to live a little and skip the späti beer once in a while.

Yelp
Really fantastic brunch spot in a great area of Berlin. Highly recommend the chicken waffle!

Yelp
Went here for Brunch on a Sunday. A limited menu, but none of the items are standard fare. Instead, each is somewhat unique from waffles stuffed with chicken to waffles with dulce de leche on top. I would return, especially to try some of the flavor infused liquor they have at the bar.

Yelp
Taco Night Sundays--maybe the only place you can get homemade tortillas in Berlin. Only 2.5 Euro or 3 for 6. Infusions of all kinds of alcohol, including mango and chili pepper blanco tequila and licorice root bourbon. Apricot margaritas for 5 Euro, and they are delicious. Candles everywhere, excellent mood lighting. A great warm feeling in the bar. Go here; you won't be sorry.

Yelp
Geist Im Glas is actually a bar but a place that serves brunch AND booze sound hella good to me! You have three different dishes on the menue which we tested all. Decide between pancakes, biscuits in grazy or the nacho plate. All of them are nice eventhough none of us was impressed by the pan cakes which were a bit too solid and not fluffy. My bisuits where solid too but went very well with the mushroom gravy. Our favourite was the lowcarb nacho plate which comes with different cream e.g. guacamole and smashed beans. Geist Im Glas played the brunch game pretty fair!

Yelp
Awesome kitchen and a good selection of vodka infusions. The smoking inside is permitted starting from 10pm so the first 3 hours are perfect to enjoy good food, get a bit buzzed and get out. The place is quite compact and atmosphere very energetic so if you happen to be around - go check it out and have a go at trying the food that is more on the fancy side.

Yelp
This bar is a pleasant discovery! The atmosphere is cozy: the walls are bare and the place is light with candles. It's the perfect place for a drink when you're two, but also for small groups. It is a cocktail bar that has no card, but I recommend their home made liquor (rum, tequila, gin). I drank a gin and tonic with infused lemon and basil with elderflower tonic that was delicious. That's the best choose 'cause they are not so good in classical cocktails.

Yelp
Portion sizes are quite small for what you pay. We had to go and get schwarmas afterwards because we were still starving! The chicken and waffles was actually really tasty it was just more of a sampling than an actual meal Coffee was alright. Very long wait for a table as well on a Saturday at 1.

Yelp
I like this place for brunch. The Huevos Rancheros, though technically not the dish it claims to be, is fantastic. They oddly deliver the drinks after the food, but I ain't mad at 'em. I just hope the hype machine doesn't catch on, turning it into another Roamers with a 60min wait for a table.

Rebecca N.

Yelp
Had a wonderful brunch here. As an American i have high pancake standards and theirs were amazing. Fluffy and flavorful. Drinks were also delicious. Would recommend 10/10 times for the food and atmosphere, and wish I'd been able to go here more during my time in Berlin.

Yelp
Found this place through an Eater recommendation, and was impressed. There is no list of cocktails, so have your favorite drink in mind. Our bartender didn't hesitate and made a Manhattan for me and a negroni for my wife. We were blown away by the negroni and the Manhattan was good. The bar itself was dark, cozy, candle lite, and a bit smokey in the back. Outdoor seating until 11pm. The front room was intimate, but you still had space to enjoy your company.

Yelp
If you like good coffee , this is not the place to go, "coffee without bottom" don't taste anything and it s a shame on a Saturday morning! Quiet overpriced for what you get. 2 eggs, black beans and a bit guacamole for €9. Otherwise nice service.
google avatar

Katze M.

Yelp
I paid 9€ for oats with three blueberries and 4€ for a not fresh orange juice, that is not ok. It stinks like smoke everywhere and it is totally dark that they light candles in the middle of a sunny day. Very limited choices on the menu and if you don´t absolutely love bacon then it´s not your breakfast place. The worst location I have been in a very long time!

Christian W.

Yelp
Having just gone there tonight with an old friend, I ordered a glass of "Green Mark" vodka and was served a cheap brand, for double the price, poured into the same bottle. After I pointed to the fact I was insulted by the waitress telling me that I had a "poor attitude" and that I needed to leave the premises, which I gladly did. I've been to this place before and it seems like they only hire personnel who present you with the highest air of arrogance. If I had bee able to give this place zero stars, I would have.

Yelp
An amazing discovery. Super cool aesthetic, nice "grown and sexy"music (think D'Angelo), relaxed vine, romantic lighting, candles everywhere, exposed bricks walls, ceiling fans. It feels like a cozy, oasis from the craziness of Berlin. I might have found a new favorite bar.

Elk E.

Yelp
Veerry delicious brunch. Yes, the pancakes are fluffy and tasty and live up to any hype you've heard. Huevos Rancheros were very filling and tasty too. Good music, very easy-going vibe and friendly waitstaff.

Heinz B.

Yelp
Guys - seriously? I paid 10,50€ for a Whiskey Sour and it was mediocre at best. That alone wouldn't make me rate this place 1star - but a place, that claims to specialize in spirits and especially whiskey should deliver nothing less but royal greatness for this price-tag. To complete this wonderful adventure i was able to experience the only toilet in the premise to be clogged and smelly like a swamped skunk cave.
