Geita

"The rustic room is dominated by a kitchen counter and features some eye-catching artwork; the chef-owner grew up in this neighbourhood, and always hoped to open a restaurant here. The set 7 course menu offers plenty of Norwegian fish, some classic richly flavoured sauces and a few subtle Japanese elements." - Michelin Inspector

I think one of the best dining experience of my life… trust me I v been to enough places for my review to be valuable : 37 countries in the last 2 years ! Here with my fiancée next to me visiting lovely Norway, I can say : Professional staff, with Hamdi smiling and being welcoming , and … wow… Damien… “To do a great job you should love what you do” Steve Jobs said before he passed… and chef Damien and chef Mathias are exactly that. You can see them work with enthusiasm with the magical touch ! Many thanks to all the staff of Geita and the owner Axel that I would love to meet one day. I forgot to mention the ambiance and the music… soft rock , Pink Floyd, and now Phil Collins just started … wow Bravo 👏

This is a fabulous hidden gem. It didn’t come up in any of the “best places to eat” recommendation searches that we did before coming to Oslo. It should be right at the top of the list. It is a sitting based taster menu. Everyone arrives at the same time and the food is served a course at a time. The decor is rustic and the atmosphere is vibrant and friendly. The staff are wonderful and very knowledgable. The main reason to come here however is the food. From almost every table in the restaurant one can see the food being prepared. An enormous amount of care clearly goes in to every dish. The food was full of flavour, original in its construction and presented beautifully. The wine list is extensive and I would be surprised if there isn’t something to suit any pallet. Finally… I thoroughly enjoyed the playlist. It is an unusual collection of rock songs for a high end restaurant, but it really works. I would 100percent recommend this place.

Sublime food, service, and environment. Went for the terrace menu and wished I had gone for the full 10-course experience. If kept at this rate, quite worthy of a Michelin star which I suspect is forthcoming.

Nice small restaurant with personalized service. Shnizel with the sides was a tad dry and longing for a creamy element. Unlike the dessert that was a pleasant surprise of interesting flavor combinations. Bergamot vanilla cream on top of nicely caramelized and at the same time soft and fluffy Japanese shokupan toast. Accompanied by a rich and smooth caramel with Thai basil sorbet and some pistachios.

Fantastic is the best word to describe this newly opened restaurant - GEITA. Oh yes, I had the 7 course dinner menu instead of the 4 course! I am sure you will be as impressed from the first course to the last just as i was! Cheers!

Had my 40th birthday at Geita. Absolutely fantastic experience and the most impressive was our server/sommelier, so much knowledge and passion for the history and traditions of the wines we got served 10/10 would recommend 🤩

We were a group of 10 people and had a 4-course dinner with wine pairing. The first dishes were average, nothing spetacular. The hamachi was a bit dull and the halibut a bit dry. The main dish, the lamb was though perfect. Thats why a total of 4 stars. Service a bit slow in the beginning even when we were the only table, but it took up during dinner. We were the only table at 18-pm seating, so quite quiet which was fine. There were no waiting dish when we had the aperitif which I had to ask for a menu and ordering. Thats why slow comment from my side. One notice and a plus is the wine pairing. The white wine (Lieu Dit) with the halibut was really nice. Pricewise and experience at max 4-stars for Geita. Worth a try for locals.

Very disappointed by this experience. Had been looking forward to it for quite some time and was celebrating a special occasion… the experience took 3.5 hours and it lacked structure and class. While all the ingredients were impeccably fresh and high quality (scallops, lobster, caviar and duck to name a few), the chefs tried too hard with plating and combinations often overpowering the ingredients with flavors that hid rather than showcased the produce. We were served our three cold starters over 2 hours… that’s simply not an acceptable pace. At last the main dish was served after 3:10h… COLD! The duck was delicious but how do you serve it cold? When told about it, the waiter simply walked away. Overall, would not spend this much money for the experience - cheap wine, paired poorly and a long wait for pretentious dishes. Hire a maitre d and improve service, certainly lots of potential.
