11 Best Gelato Shops in Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"Well positioned near the Uffizi gallery, the more than 30-year-old Gelateria dei Neri has high ceilings and a large gelato counter with a wide array of flavors, as well as another case for granita and semifreddo. Gelato comes in big portions and the flavor selection is wide-ranging and creative, from salted caramel to ricotta with fig. The shop is one of the only places we've seen that does an on-trend matcha; additionally, its pistachio ricotta cremino—essentially pistachio nutella—is devilishly good. Its prime location means there's usually a line, though the staff remains friendly and knowledgable." - Bridget Arsenault

Google
Absolutely love this gelateria! The gelato tastes amazing—so rich and creamy—with a wide variety of flavors to pick from. The staff are super friendly and help you find perfect combos. Charming vintage vibe and well located. A real gem!

Google
As an ice cream connoisseur, I have to say: this is the best gelato in Florence. The pistachio flavor is rich and intense, with a dense, almost heavy texture – which I take as a sign of high-quality ingredients and a strong concentration of flavor. You simply can't go wrong here. Prices are fair, and the taste speaks for itself.

Google
Without a doubt, Gelateria dei Neri serves one of the best gelatos in Florence — and that’s saying a lot. I had a cone with dark chocolate and fior di latte, and the texture, flavor, and richness were on another level. The ingredients taste real, intense, and balanced — not too sweet, not too heavy. The place was full, but service was fast and friendly. You can tell this is a local favorite, not just a tourist stop. It’s the kind of gelateria that makes you want to come back every single day. A must-visit if you want a real, authentic, high-quality gelato experience in the heart of Florence.

Google
Definitely the richest gelato I’ve had so far. Strong flavours and thick texture, had the ricotta and pistachio and it was delicious - had a small cup for 3 euro

Google
Creamy Perfection at Gelateria dei Neri – Florence Tucked away on Via dei Neri, Gelateria dei Neri is a must-visit for gelato enthusiasts. The moment you step in, you’re greeted with a vast array of flavors, from classics to unique combinations like salted caramel and ricotta with fig. I opted for a scoop of their renowned pistachio gelato, and it was nothing short of divine. The texture was incredibly creamy, and the portion generous—perfect for savoring as you stroll through the historic streets of Florence.

Google
Amazing Italian Gelato, creamy, wide selection of flavors, the smallest portion is really good and with a reasonable price, they also make the famous Florence coffee with ice cream (Afogato), nice customer service. Highly recommended.

Google
We saw the really good ratings on google and thought why not getting an ice cream in the evening… and it was a good decision!😃. You get 2 different types of icecream for just 3 euros and the quality is amazing! 🍦

Google
The pistachio gelato here is hands down the best I’ve ever had — so creamy, rich, and full of real pistachio flavor. If you’re in Firenze, Gelateria dei Neri is a must!

Yelp
During my time in Firenze I made it my intention to try as many gelato spots as I could. Gelateria dei Neri came recommended, and since we had just finished dinner nearby we thought it was the perfect place to check out for dessert. dei Neri's setup is typical of most other gelaterias I visited; walking in we were immediately greeted by the display case with all the flavors, and they have a small seating area to the side in case you want to sit and enjoy your treat. I didn't want to overdo it so I went with one of the smaller sizes, and chose two flavors - the cream and the yogurt with cherries. The gelato was excellent, honestly some of the best I had while in Firenze. It was super creamy and full of flavor - especially the yogurt with cherries, I'm still thinking about it. Service was good, we were taken care of promptly and everyone was friendly. Overall, dei Neri is definitely worth checking out while in Firenze - next time I'm in the city I will be sure to return.

Yelp
We found this gelateria based on rave reviews from a social media couple I kind-of-not-really-follow. The shop was just a few blocks from our hotel, which was a bonus, and open later, which was another bonus. It was also consistently packed. People at every table inside, people on the street outside, people crowding the door. That was a good sign for the quality of the gelato. Once inside we were able to see the array of flavors on offer, everything from the "normal" (chocolates and such) to the more creative (rice gelato, anyone?) The staff was friendly and efficient, even when they were being swarmed by groups of customers demanding a scoop of their finest gelato. We stopped in twice during our time in Firenze and both times enjoyed the flavors of the gelato and the friendliness of the staff.

Yelp
The gelato is really great. A friend who is from firenze recommended and I'm so glad she did. Good flavors and taste is wonderful. Went twice in my two day trip.

Yelp
My previous favorite gelato flavor: ricotta and fig. My new favorite gelato flavor: popcorn! I don't know how they come up with these unique flavors, but it I am perpetually amazed. The staff is super nice and doesn't get annoyed at indecisive tourists not knowing what to get. Psst, see above. There are even a few tables in the store where you can enjoy your gelato before they melt into a sticky mess in the summer heat.

Yelp
My favorite gelato in Florence! I've returned to this gelateria every time I visit Florence! They have the most authentic assortment of flavors and truly fresh ingredients. The gelato is so creamy and soft, I dream of it. My favorite flavor is their Rice gelato (almost like a rice pudding flavor), however, it's seasonal. On my most recent visit I tried the following flavors: stracciatela, ricotta and fig, pistachio, egg cream, passion fruit, mango, and coconut. Heavenly!
google avatar

Yelp
There's many price points for their gelatos ranging from 2.50 Euros and up to 5 Euros (cone size) / 7 Euros (cup size). I think the amount of flavors you get depends on the size that you get. You can ask the staff to advise. We got and shared three different gelato flavors in the 3 Euros cup size: tiramisu, pistachio, and mango. We enjoyed the gelatos and the tiramisu was our least favorite since the rum flavor was a bit strong. Service was super quick during the time we went. There's a couple of tables and seats in the gelato shop and we got to enjoy our gelato treat inside. :)

Yelp
Helpful and friendly service. The crema, both caramels, ricotta with fig, and Nutella were delicious! Generous servings.

Yelp
Holy cow this gelateria is sooooo delicious and creamy! We went during night time and there was a small line out the door, but it was well worth the trek! And by that I mean just a short walk from our airbnb haha. No place to really sit down, but a good time to eat and take a stroll. Gelato: DELICIOUS! Creamy and sweet. I ordered the pistachio which I mean, you can't go wrong with pistachio gelato. Something about the dairy in Italy makes this whole thing better. The range in a variety of flavors including nondairy ones. Service: super helpful! We were tourists but they spoke basic English and helped us with ease. Everything was very straight forward.

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because I'm a broken record at this point, but it's gelato in Europe! --- --- --- My first 4 days of my European vacation were spent in Barcelona and Florence. Each night, I finished the evening with gelato. Each night, it was wonderful. Gelateria dei Neri was the grand finale. Not a ton separates any of the places I visited, to be honest. What stands out here were the flavors that were available. Cherry Mania and Ricotta were two of them and I snagged both. Neither disappointed. I will think of them fondly for all of my days.
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
Pretty good gelato located near uffizi and other landmarks in the city. Very accessible and lots of room inside. Prices are also good and generous portions. The service is also very friendly and they have many flavors to choose from. My crema and pistachio flavors were good! Not the best I have had but very well done. Tried stracciatella as well and it was tasty as well.
google avatar

Yelp
There are Much better places in this world. But it's likely you're a tourist reading this review. So go ahead eat gelato here. You'll love it. It'll remind of what gelato tastes like in the states and you'll feel comfort and be able to tell everyone at home what you did. And send them a photo. Just to be clear. This is still really good gelato. But only if it is on your way to a better gelato. Good service. No doubt. Classic look. Like it's been in biz for a hundred years. Either way. If you do try it here. Try it somewhere else to. So you can know there is more to life
google avatar

Yelp
Only bad thing about this place is too many flavors to choose from! So creamy and not overly sweet Fast and super friendly service. We tried 4 flavors and every single one of them was delicious.
google avatar

Amber E.

Yelp
Incredible gelato, with standard and unique flavors. I had the salted caramel (burro salato) - amazing, the Ciccolato Grezio de Modica (chocolate with some crunchy chocolate chips) - really good, but my surprise favorite was the ricotta w/ figs (ricotta e fichi) - so creamy and flavorful, kind of like a strawberry cheesecake flavor. My daughter's cream one (like a mascarpone) was delicious, and so was my husband's pistachio. Our server was very patient while we decided. Totally recommend!
google avatar

Arnold T.

Yelp
Update: it's our last day in Florence and we tried 3 others including Venchi and Gelateria Perche No! deiNeri is far the best!
google avatar

Traci H.

Yelp
Busy but worth it! Had the Al fogato and Gelato. Delish! The Crema was top notch. Highly recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent intense chocolate flavor and generous scoop of Il Moretto di via de'Neri. Even though the line looks long, it was so worth waiting for.
google avatar

Erica K.

Yelp
Wow. I still dream about this place. This is the best gelato I have ever had in my life and I think it will be the best gelato I will ever have. I came here on a completely full stomach and order multiple cups of gelato. It is just that good. The cookies and cream gelato is probably the best thing to have existed. Please get it while you're here. I am so jealous of anyone that will get to experience this place for the first time I honestly wouldn't have minded if this was the last meal in life ever. Service is also amazing! They are super nice. And the place itself is cute although it is on the smaller side. Everyone and their mothers need to go to this place before they die

Yelp
Second gelato stop in Florence, first was good, Gelateria dei Neri is better. We were happy to have been served by an American student from California who was living and working in Florence in between Med schools. Ok now for the Gelato...very good, authentic flavors, creamy and not too sweet, paired well with a shot of expresso (affogato). Many students on break so it was very loud and crowded inside but ok to sit and chill for a minute after walking and walking, and more walking!
google avatar

Allie B.

Yelp
Delicious gelato in the heart of Florence. Good service and wonderful flavors! Gelateria was super cute.
google avatar

Candace L.

Yelp
Tasty gelato! The line was outrageous in the afternoon, but we hit them on a different evening at a quarter to midnight and no line! I had a scoop of pistachio which was yummy. I skipped on the cone since I was still full from dinner. We were able to sit inside and things were super calm which was a nice change from a town completely overrun by tourists. I'd say the gelato is worth about a 5-10 minute wait tops, other than that - do away with your bed time and go much much later into the evening.
google avatar

Bruski N.

Yelp
We kept hearing that Gelateria dei Neri is the best in Firenze. We finally stopped by and were disappointed. It was over hyped. All of the flavors (coconut, coffee, cherry and cookies n cream) were very sugary and didn't have the creamy or buttery flavor of a good gelateria. They were good but not the best that we have experienced.
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
A top rated gelateria in Florence...and it's easy to see why. In a hot July day (104 degrees F), this place was packed. I chose a combination of lime and chocolate.... Which was fantastic! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
The absolute best gelato in Italy, not much more to say. Both complex and simple flavors that will blow your mind. Rice gelato, lemon gelato and pistachio that has a layer of pistachio chocolate they scoop into each cone. Prices are cheap and they will mix 2-4 flavors! Just pure heaven!
google avatar

Lily H.

Yelp
Our favorite gelato in Florence after testing several. We had to hike out for this but totally worth it, and clear reason why there's always a line out the door. There are so many non traditional creative flavors to choose from. Personal favorites included yogurt with honey & walnuts and ricotta & fig. Though all 6 flavors we tried were good! Prices are still reasonable for the quality of the gelato.
google avatar

Sze Ting L.

Yelp
This gelateria has nice seating inside, which many shops don't have, and is nice when you don't want your gelato to melt immediately. The rasberry was very fresh and the highly recommended ricotta with fig was pretty good, but not mindblowing. Worth trying if in the area, but not worth going out of your way to find. They also have a brioche option where you can choose two flavors of gelato, but the brioche seemed a bit stale.

Gerardo A.

Yelp
It was limited space but it went really fast even the little bit of rain kept people wanting to try this amazing place definitely will crave this in the united states when I return
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Very authentic and delicious gelato. Lots of flavors to choose from and the staff is very helpful and kind. I got the tiramisu and thought it was delicious! My friends who got their different flavors also loved what they chose.
google avatar

Cassie M.

Yelp
THIS IS THE BEST GELATERIA IN FLORENCE! NOTHING CAN CHANGE MY MIND! TRY IT ONCE - YOU WON'T GET ANYWHERE ELSE! Staff allow many samples and they have a wide variety of flavor. They even have fruit and sorbet options that are dairy free (not sure about vegan). I got 1 scoop (1/2 pistachio (TO DIE FOR) and 1/2 a Nutella/fudge) for 2 euro! SO CHEAP! Try finding that rate anywhere in the US for the authenticity of the gelato...you can't. And the scoops are HUGE and GENEROUS! I went back multipls times and tried other flavors as well (but forget, sad).
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Pricing was based on the size cup or cone chosen. I chose a 3 euro cone with pistachio and vanilla gelato. My bf chose a 3 euro cone with stracciatella gelato. The pistachio gelato tasted like eating a handful of pistachios. The vanilla gelato tasted like French vanilla, which was sweeter than just regular vanilla. The cone I got is what I would describe as a mix of the American cake and sugar cone (the cone had the texture of the cake cone and the color of sugar cone). The vanilla gelato definitely overpowered the pistachio gelato when eaten together. I tried some of the stracciatella. It was not as sweet as my two choices but it was good. The service was okay. The person serving me was half listening to me since she was telling the rest of the line to come inside the shop. Only one sample was allowed.
google avatar

Jill H.

Yelp
This is my daughter favorite gelateria in Firenze (and she sampled many!). Naturally it was our first stop for a gelato on the trip. I chose two flavors on the fruity/creamy side of things, while my husband chose a 3-flavor mix of tiramisu, cherry, and chocolate variety. Delicious! Each bite! We'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Hard to beat great gelato in Florence so close to the sights and this place doesn't disappoint
google avatar

Aliya M.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get gelato in Florence. Very budget friendly. They have a large variety of flavors and the staff is very friendly. Be prepared for a little wait as the line can get long. But don't leave, the wait is well worth it.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Intense flavors and beautiful texture. If I lived here, I would eat here daily. This was our first gelato experience in Italy, and most afterward had a hard time living up to its high bar.
google avatar

JJ R.

Yelp
TONS of options - my wife lovvved they had banana flavor) Friendly service (ask for samples if you're not sure of what you want) Reasonably priced Get you through the line fairly quickly If you want to sit inside, there are about 6 small tables or a standing table to lean up against Don't have pictures because I was too busy holding and eat mine
google avatar

Samah I.

Yelp
Okay so I wasn't yelping when I came here in 2019 so this is a very delayed review so take it with a grain of salt. But I lived in florence for three weeks while doing a study abroad and tried many gelato in the area (and other cities--rome, naples, marina di massa, venice, etc) and THIS was the BEST I had amongst ALL of the contenders in price, flavor, and choices. They legit had straight up caramel in a container in addition to gelato and it was divine. I still think about it to this day. This place is BUSY so come when they open to beat the crowds (almost every time I came there was like no room to move). Staff was really nice and friendly despite being so overwhelmed with customers.
google avatar

Sean W.

Yelp
Best in the city BY FAR! Cookies & cream is life changing but many flavors and all of the utmost quality.
google avatar

Gabrielle D.

Yelp
We stopped into this quaint gelato shop before dinner. And the flavors were abundant and delicious. There was no line when we went but i hear this place gets pretty popular!
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Very good gelato. Texture is great. Scoops are on the smaller side I thought but not bad at all. They have some flavors I haven't seen elsewhere (cheesecake flavors, ricotta & pistachio). The passionfruit cheesecake has been my favorite gelato so far on this trip but plan to try a few more in Florence.
google avatar

Brandon B.

Yelp
Gelato Gelato Gelato Gelato This was quite fine, I think it has the reputation of being one of the better ones around based on the reviews, I was glad to stumble on it (one does not seek Gelato in Italy, it finds you, every other street). Nothing saves a tourist faster than Gelato after the self-flagellation of walking all over a town crowded with vulturous tourists trying to see the same thing in the heat with no easy way to cool off or consume quickly...the perfect tourist food, I had a mix of the dark chocolate and hazelnut which was lifesaving.
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
Mind blowing compared to the other places we tried. I had the raspberry sorbet ... unbelievable. My wife and son had gelato. GO TO THIS PLACE and you'll understand !!!!
google avatar

Francesca C.

Yelp
Great tasting gelato, but the ordering process could be smoother. The flavors are only listed in Italian, and you get to taste 1 flavor before ordering.
google avatar

Clara C.

Yelp
I forgot how I found this gelateria but it's not too far from the Uffizi Gallery! People were waiting in line here, and I liked that they had seating inside. They had a funny sign for the bathroom. The servers spoke some English. They allowed one sample flavor per person, so I had a small cup with two flavors. I think the next size up got you up to three flavors. I loved their version of coffee. I pretty much inhaled my small cup because it was soo good! The prices were also great. For three people, it was around €7. I would come back :)
google avatar

Katie K.

Yelp
Amazing gelato. The best in Florence that we had. Even better affogato, it was mind blowing my delicious!
google avatar

Jess G.

Yelp
So. Good. I got the raspberry and salted caramel flavors in a small cup for €2.50. Some of the best gelato I've had on my trip to Italy, definitely a must try while in Florence!
google avatar

Mahesh P.

Yelp
Excellent. Really. Just...excellent. There really is no shortage of excellent gelato in Firenze. The issue is that there is also no shortage of tourist-bait gelato - you can tell those by the mounds of gelato piled high , and usually melting. This, however, is not tourist-bait. The flavors are spot-on, the consistency is just right, as is the temperature (it should start melting even as you walk out the door ) The place is a wee bit chaotic, but never you mind - it's way worth it...
google avatar

Christine G.

Yelp
Mo stopped by here since it's pretty popular and Giada recommends it so we figured split one and give it a try on our walk back to our apartment. We ended up with pistachio and coffee they were both very creamy and sweet but not very flavorful. They texture was so soft which is nice but it really was too sweet for either of our tastes and the sweetness overwhelmed even the coffee and definitely the pistachio flavor. I can definitely see why many enjoy this gelato though! It's definitely good artisanal gelato but gelato seems to be a really personal preference in Italy and I'm sure anyone you speak with will have a different opinion on what is their favorite! So I guess Mo and me are just going to have to keep trying them all hahahaha. Rough rough strugggle??!
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
Be prepared for a line of at least 30 people (but it moves quickly!) This gelato shop has classic and unique flavors (highly suggest the unique) and it was worth the wait. I ate gelato, at shops recommended by locals, everyday in Italia and this was one of my favorite places!
google avatar

Wing C.

Yelp
1.80 euro for their small - which they allow you to choose up to two flavors! It was the best value on our trip. Most places' smallest offering was at least 2 euro and forcing you to stick to single flavor. Ricotta and Fig, Rice, Pistachio, and Tiramisu - the four that we opted for were all exquisite. Def one of the best (value and taste) in the city!
google avatar

Darylynn D.

Yelp
What is it about pistachio gelato from Italy? I swear it is legitimate pistachio instead of the imitation stuff they have in the States. The place is decently sized for a gelateria and the staff is helpful. I came here after dinner and crema ricotta e pistacchio and it was amazing! I know it does sound weird because of the ricotta, but it is something you want to try. Like always, the price is very reasonable for good gelato.
