The 24 Best Restaurants In Venice, Italy - Venice - The Infatuation

"This cafe on the long stretch in Dorsoduro called Fondamenta delle Zattere is the place to sit down at a table, enjoy the view of the Giudecca Canal, and take your time. The gelato comes in glass flutes, and you should go for the Venetian specialty, gianduiotto: a rectangle of chocolate hazelnut gelato plunged into a cup filled with whipped cream. Add on a spritz if you’re feeling extra luxurious." - gillian mcguire, carlo mantuano

9 Best Gelato Shops in Venice | Condé Nast Traveler

"Located on the scenic Fondamenta Zattere ai Gesuati promenade overlooking the Giudecca Canal, Gelateria Nico boasts an enviable waterside setting. This is one of the rare gelaterias where you can actually dine-in, and as such, the gelato arrives in style in hurricane glasses and other flamboyant glassware. The classic gianduiotto, a best-seller, is served with ample whipped cream. The tiramisu and the cassata are also great; in summer, the shop serves hand-made popsicles with various coatings and, if you're in the mood, a solid Aperol spritz." - Jenna Scatena

Google
One of my favourite places in Venice! The view is amazing and the stuff is kind and helpfull. We had the famous ice cream (amaretto was the best) and aperol. Totally recommend!!

Google
The first gelato we took in our Italy vacation, arguably one of the best! Nicciola was splendid. A bit windy and chilly at night.

Anusha Halsnad

Google
The flavours were interesting, but the taste and the texture wasn't to our liking. The texture was too frozen and the flavor didn't feel natural. A bit disappointed after having good gelatos in Italy.

Brie Juta

Google
This was recommended to us by our accommodation host—we tried the gianduiotto (hazelnut gelato poached in whipped cream). It was very delicious plus we had an amazing view! Staff are friendly. Would highly recommend :)

Google
cute spot on the water with polite staff. Most people had gelato but we just got coffees. They also brought a check with our coffee so we weren’t trapped waiting on a server.

Google
I love this place, the view is unbeatable as it overlooks the Giudecca canal. They serve the ice cream in flamboyant hurricane glasses. It opened in the 1920s so they’ve served everyone from Peggy Guggenheim to Angelina Jolie. Great spot to escape getting sun burned under the parasols too 🫶

Google
Had the gianbenduiotto because of all the reviews, I don't really get the hype. It was just alright, I preferred my friend's hazelnut ice cream.

Google
We were a group of six and wanted to enjoy a relaxing visit to a café on the last day of our trip, hoping to sit by the water and enjoy the view. A friendly waiter told us we were welcome to sit at one of the tables by the water and even walked us there. However, as soon as we sat down another waiter approached us and rudely told us we couldn’t sit there and had to move to the tables in front of the entrance, even though his colleague had clearly told him it was fine for us to sit by the water.

Yelp
Apparently this is the oldest gelateria in Venice. It was rich and creamy and very well priced. Highly recommend. It does get very busy and the space is small. I wouldn't necessarily suggest getting sandwiches but definitely a spot for coffee and gelato.

Yelp
Popular thanks to patio seating overlooking Giudecca Canal Gelateria Nico is a family-owned establishment on Fondamenta Zattere ai Gesuati, hours from 07h30 to 18h00 every day but Thursday finding outside seats occupied with additional seats within. Not offering Gelato before 11h00, morning better suited for Espresso and Pastries, guests will find a fairly basic selection priced higher than many, the Waffle's visibly taken from cellophane and rewarmed while Bread topped with Ham and Cheese comes from a beg before getting pressed. Relaxed in terms of service, well suited for those hoping to watch the sunset over an Aperol Spritz, fans of Cannoli should look elsewhere as Nico's taste stale while the Cornetti and Rice Tart are average, at best.

Yelp
It's a really good option for gelato. A great compliment is the large indoor seating area and wonderful ocean front. You should take your gelato and explore. At night it's especially pretty and there's no wait for ordering. You'll also find a basic café bar inside. As for the gelato, the chocolates are all very good but not great. The strawberry is especially great given the pieces in it and the creamy texture. At €3 for two scoops in this area you're getting a deal you'll enjoy.

Yelp
This was recommended as "pretty good still" (or something like that) by a local. It was fine. It's near the touristy area of St. Mark's Square. I visited in the evening. The gelato didn't taste as fresh and was perhaps a little too cold. It wasn't frostbitten, but I could somehow taste the coldness and I suspect it impacted the flavor. I'd try Nico again, but I'd try other places first.

Yelp
We ordered gelato and sat down. An employee said the tables were for customers and we had to leave. Not sure why purchasing their product is not considered a customer but either way if the seats are for those ordering drinks, then he should have at the very least offered a menu instead of being rude.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. The guy behind the counter threw my receipt at me and napkin. What a waste of an experience, walked over an hour to get here. Never again. Don't recommend at all.
google avatar

Yelp
Tourist trap - despite being told by a few sources to try it. This place is a tourist trap with overpriced food, drinks and gelato with underwhelming flavors. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. There's other places much cheaper for better taste. 13 euros for mostly whipped cream.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Cute little place alongside the pier. Gelato was alright and there were a lot of American customers here.
google avatar

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Right in front of the water so it was lovely to grab some gelato and eat it in front of a nice view. Gelato was decent, not the best, but an affordable price.
google avatar

Den G.

Yelp
Tasty gelato with friendly staff. Choose your flavor from the display case in the front and order from the counter or be seated at a table and order at a slightly higher price. But don't expect to order at the counter at the cheaper price and then take up space at a table. It isn't the custom. When in Venice, do as the Venetians do. There is always room for gelato.

Yelp
Yummy gelato! I tried their square shaped gelato (I forget the exact name) but it tastes very fudgey, has nuts in it, and is topped with whipped cream. It was the perfect post-dinner sweet. Not sure I'd get their square gelato if I went again, but it's worth a try if you're looking for something new!
google avatar

Yelp
Very much like American ice cream. Lots of air so it's not dense or flavorful. I would not recommend at all
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
Great gelato place just next to a boat station. I had the coffee and straciatella flavors here, both of which I really liked. They are cost only, just FYI. Beware that you cannot sit at one of the tables outside the gelateria if you just order gelato.
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
Tried the pistachio and coffee gelato, and both flavors were phenomenal! Have some water handy, because it is quite sweet.1.80 euros for one scoop.

Yelp
Gianduiotto with panna! Spectacular. The location is also breathtaking. Definitely recommend

Santie B.

Yelp
Went for the experience because trip advisor recommended it. Ordered got our desert and proceeded to walk over to a seat with the view. The waiter lifted his finger and waved no. Didn't ask if we wanted to order or tell us why. Maybe it was because we were African American maybe not. Regardless not cool. Just a heads up. Thanks for the experience you didn't display online.

Yelp
Another night, another gelato. If I had a dollar for every ounce of gelato we ate in Italy I would be rich! We took a Vaporetto over from Giudecca after eating dinner. The Vaporetto stop is nearby and the Nico's is actually on the water which makes for a nice place to eat your treat. We actually took ours and strolled some of the smaller paths to the Accademmia bridge. Tip- order gelato at the window facing the water. Go inside for other orders. Once again, LOTS of gelato places in Venice. We liked this one because it's on the water, near a Vaporetto stop and away from the craziness of St. Marks.

Yelp
Came here after seeing great reviews on both Yelp and Foursquare! I was very impressed with the selection of ice cream bars that they stored in the fridge, as it was more than just the ice cream in a cone, which I had gotten relatively sick of after about 3 weeks in Europe of a gelato cone (or two) per day... I got the pistachio ice cream bar, with a white-chocolate shell, sprinkled with dark chocolate flakes on the outside. The outside shell coating was thick and crunchy, and the inside pistachio bar was creamy and not at all icy. The outer white chocolate shell was a bit sweet (as you'd expect of white chocolate I guess...) but the more savory tint of the pistachio definitely made up for it! The texture was very much like your Magnum ice cream bar, although I think the shell was a bit thicker and harder (and less so crunchy). Overall it wasn't super mind blowing, but it was really satisfying nonetheless and the shop deserves mad props for creativity on the ice cream front! Not to mention this place has a gorgeous view of the waterfront, especially during sunset =)

Yelp
We stopped after a morning shopping in Murano. An easy water taxi ride ice cream and a wine cocktail was the perfect cool-off recipe. Tables were available and the service was quick and friendly. A must see place if you are nearby. Thanks to the other Yelpers for the helpful reviews.

Yelp
Beautiful location and great place to while away your afternoon. They have a ton of seating both closer to the shop as well as right near the water. You can get something simple like a scoop or two or pick something a bit fancier from their menu. Gelato was okay....Alaska Gelato is way better but they have no seating. Nico also has clean bathrooms which is always a plus!

Yelp
Stopped here for a pit stop during our tour of Venice, as the guide explained the place near the cafe had great sunset pics, and I took the opportunity to visit the loo, which had no seat cover (hence one less star). Both of my companions got a cappuccino, which they termed okay, and I wasn't going to get anything, but a family from Atlanta who were also on the tour raved about the hot chocolate, and I was sold when my my brother said he saw the bloke making it using a real block of chocolate and whipped cream. My hot chocolate cost €2.50, the same as the guys' cappuccino, but OMG my hot hot chocolate was AMAZING - thick, rich, gooey, and I needed a spoon to eat it. If you are in the vicinity, try it! Just don't visit the loo!

Yelp
Great gelato for a very good price!! It's right on the waterfront in a popular area, which almost all of Venice has taken as an excuse to overcharge for mediocre food, but not this place! This is still the real deal, and hopefully will stay that way. Small cones were only €1,50 keeping with the cheaper end of Italian gelato. But it didn't taste that cheap, and the generous scoop sizes are quite a good value! Definitely worth checking out if you're nearby!

Yelp
Regular ice cream and really bad service. If you want a coffee looking to the sea it is a okay place but try to look for a better one if you want to be better treated.

Yelp
Gelateria Nico is very conveniently located right next to a water taxi stop, so it's easy to hop off and give them a try! Throughout my month in Italy, "After Eight" became my favorite flavor so I was very excited to see that they had it. I ordered the "After Eight" and milk chocolate and was pretty disappointed. The gelato had okay flavor but was veerrryyy icy. One of the only times in Italy I wasn't scarfing down my gelato! My friend got their speciality, the Nutella ice cream bar with cream, and was very satisfied. I should know better, always go with what's popular! Additionally, they're one of those gelaterias that makes you pay to sit down... I shouldn't complain because this is a common thing it Italy, but there was nowhere else to sit around the area. Overall, nothing I would come back for if I was ever in Venice again.

Yelp
Thought the pistachio and chocolate were very good. Partner had the lemon and strawberry, the star out of the four was the lemon. Would stop again of in area or around the corner at Lagunas. 2.80 for 2 scoops.
google avatar

Yelp
Me and my friend decided to try out Gelateria Nico after dining at Antico across the street. We both ordered gelato togo. I had the coffee gelato while my friend chose the pistachio one. Both gelatos were creamy and good. We would definitely come back. Also, Gelateria Nico have a nice outside seating with big heaters for cold weather. It looked comfy!
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
The Gelato was very good and affordable. The staff were the rudest people I have ever met. They obviously don't know anything about customer service. I was in Venice for three days and I purposefully avoided coming back to this place. Be forewarned they don't let you sample anything, which makes it difficult to choose. And if you don't sit down to eat they don't give you the wifi password. They are ridiculous and arrogant.

Yelp
While I was visiting Venezia, my good local friend took me to amazing places to eat. And Gelateria Nico was one of the best gelateria I've been to. A lot of the locals were at the gelateria which is a very good sign. I loved the fruity and light gelato. And also they're location is superb. Very romantic place to have gelato :)
google avatar

Amedeo S.

Yelp
Nico sells the best ice-cream and granita in all of Venice. This was the place where I ate my first ice-cream. The service has only been improving over the years and the ice cream is always fresh and homemade. I always come here each time I go to Venice.

Jay G.

Yelp
Very nice owner. Beautiful view outside shop. We loved this Gelato shop!
google avatar

Zoe C.

Yelp
While I lived in Venice, I would visit here very frequently. I would usually get gelato to go, as other reviewers have echoed, it costs 2-3 times the price to sit down, also, the 80s called, they don't want their tired decor back! There plenty of places to sit along the waterfront to enjoy the view. The two things that remained consistent on each return visit was the quality of the ice cream and the rudeness of the staff. So if you're looking for service with a smile, you're not going to find it here. On one occasion the counter assistant complained about my paying with a note to the other staff, thinking I didn't have a grasp of Italian. Try the amaretto ice cream! The portions are generous too.

Rachel W.

Yelp
They tell you that they take credit cards with a $10 minimum. Then you order $10 worth and then they tell you that you need to go get cash to pay.

Yelp
Great place to stop for a morning cappuccino, or some delicious gelato.

Yelp
One of my favorite gelato places in Venice! €2,50 for two scoops, not too bad (compared to Chicago prices)!

Jared B.

Yelp
We looked up on Google "best gelato in Venice" and this place came up as one of the top places. The pictures looked amazing and the reviews were really good. BUT, we must have got the pissed off employee who doesn't like Americans or Brazilians, and has 0 patience. We wanted to get something that looked like the pictures - I tried to describe it to the guy and said it looked kinda like a sundae. He very rudely replied "sundae's are an american thing; we don't do that here". There were pictures over the gelato bar (that also looked good), but there was no description of what it was, and when I asked him about one of the pictures, he said "how am I supposed to know, I'm on this side of the bar." Now, the guy is visibly looking like he is about to walk away (very impatient) but we ask him "what do you recommend?" He says "gianduiotto", and we say "we'll take 2". The gianduiotto was a frozen solid bar of crappy chocolate gelato, placed in a cup with an insane amount of panna (or whipped cream). My wife and I took a few bites and threw one of them away - it wasn't worth the calories. We were shocked because the reviews and photos were so good here, so we couldn't leave without ordering a proper gelato. We were both very disappointed with the sub-par gelato that arrived - but at least the next guy that served us was nice.

B R.

Yelp
Pretty ordinary Gelato especially by Italian standards. Have had much better in Florence and Rome, and in most big cities in the U.S. Also they have attitude: rude and a trifle fonder of people with white skin. Kind of ruined our otherwise wonderful visit to Venice. Perhaps they need to up their game - they have been around a long time - or find another line of work.

A M.

Yelp
Came here for affogato which is served with fior di latte gelato. Delicious. Cannot find fior di latte anywhere in Boston. Nice deck, views
