"Brunswick East’s seasonally rotating cast of cookies that celebrate heritage grains and bean-to-bar chocolate possess seriousness of flavour and imagination. The salted caramel cookie is no exception, made with flour milled on-site for freshness from Gilchesters’s Emmer grain, chunks of 28 percent toasted Nicaraguan white chocolate from Hackney chocolate maker Land, and a salted caramel sauce that repurposes whey leftover from the yoghurt for the chilli poached eggs on the brunch menu. Delicious and suprising flavours can be found here. I tried the Latte & Pistachio ice cream which was deliciously creamy and nutty. Also tried the Pandan & Coconut sorbet which was light & refreshing. There used to be 'Gelobar' as Brunswick's landmark gelateria which closed down for fancy restaurants. 'Gelato Messina' is the new landmark gelateria and we are the lucky locals to enjoy gelato and ice cream like never before.

I visited recently and thought the experience was pretty average overall. The strawberry and passion fruit gelato I ordered was okay — the passion fruit was refreshing but the strawberry fell flat, and the batch I had was a bit icy rather than creamy. I also feel the flavours haven’t really changed much over the years, which makes it less exciting to come back. The warehouse-style location is easy to miss, but once inside it’s a nice enough space. Not bad, but nothing that stood out either. Would recommend Sicono Gelato over Messina if looking for a better local gelateria.

I went for an ice cream at Messina Brunswick East and was helped by two lovely young girls. The girl serving me (her name was Lisa) helped me with choosing between the variety of different flavours and was happy to let me try some different ones which I really appreciated! Everything went smooth and I got my ice cream in no-time. I got the honey pokey and the Italian nougat! I can definitely recommend this place if you want a delicious ice cream and for its wonderful staff members!

Can't believe I haven't posted a review about Messina before. Absolutely scrumptious ice-cream and worth every penny. You can eat in or buy a container to take away and share with family and friends. There are a few outlets in Melbourne however my preferred is Brunswick East. Kids and pet (outside) friendly, very accessible and seating is available. Because it's so popular, parking can be an issue but it's not too bad. Prices have gone up recently however it remains my favourite. The service is always exception and efficient. This is a treat not to be missed...I can t have just one scoop. Last visit, it was a generous scoop of mango and the pear with rhubarb....hmmm!! It was amazing.

Plenty of flavours to choose from, no huge lines to wait and there’s seating inside what is an industrial warehouse. There’s a tap with cups to drink as complimentary and very thoughtful after something sweet. Speaking of sweet, not all flavours are overly sweet which is great! There is however no toilets here. If you want the usual flavours the pop up offers that in spades if you’re after the limited time flavours you need to go to the OG store in Fitzroy.

This is an inviting warehouse-style space - great staff and ambience. Ice cream is pricey but good, with weekly specials to keep choices fresh. Some customers abuse the 'taste-before-buying option' which slows down service SO much. Overall rating? Highly recommended!

One of my favourite spot for an evening treat, the ice cream are all delicious. I almost always try the ones they have on special as the flavours are always so surprising. The staff is always so friendly. There is almost always a line sometimes around the corner but the waiting time goes usually for less than 15 minutes. There is a little seating area.
