Gen Japanese Charcoal Grill

I came here for the first time with my friends. The atmosphere was great and suitable for everyone. I ordered a salad and really loved the dressing. The grill plate was okay. The yellowtail sakura roll was flavorful, but a little too sour for my taste. The grilled shimahokke was medium-sized. For dessert, we tried the fondue plate and hojicha ice cream, which were a bit too sweet. Unfortunately, the matcha ice cream was sold out. One thing to note is that the restroom is outside the restaurant, and you have to walk to the opposite building.

Wow!!! What an incredible dinner. I think this was the best japanese dinner of my life. Highly recommend the black cod, the sushi rolls and the tuna sashimi with ponzu sauce. Also the fries are very good and have an original taste!! The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very japanese style!

I visited during lunch and found the ambience calm and intimate, making it a perfect escape from the city buzz. The staff were warm, attentive, and wonderfully professional, adding to the feeling that you’ve been transported straight to Japan. Overall, Gen is an exceptional spot for anyone who appreciates quality Japanese cuisine, a place where every detail from the food to the service is done with care. A true Ekkamai gem worth revisiting again and again.

A great spot for casual Japanese dining. The grilled items here are especially good and priced very reasonably. The unagi is a standout—crispy, flavorful, and highly recommended. I also loved the beef tongue—tender and delicious, with the chopped green onions underneath adding the perfect touch. One surprising highlight was the pickled vegetables—not your typical side dish, but incredibly tasty and refreshing. Definitely worth a visit.

The food is really delicious. There are many food options to be chosen. The meat is well-seasoned which will satisfy your taste buds. The staff are really professional and friendly, with warm greetings once you step in and about to leave. I will definitely come back again when visiting Bangkok in future.
