The Best Restaurants in Mira Mesa | Eater San Diego

"With booming nightclub music, beer towers, and glow-in-the-dark soju cocktails in a Capri Sun-like pouches, this Korean barbecue establishment feels like it’s straight out of the Gangnam district in Seoul. The Gen signature galbi, a succulent marinated short rib dish, and Hawaiian chicken with pineapple slices are popular favorites." - Helen I. Hwang

Before we start I told our server I am allergic to alcohol. We ordered 2 mocktails but they have us the alcohol version of the mocktails drink. What if I have a severe allergy reaction? I had a sip and I can already tell its alcohol. The Purple Ube Dream was really good. And Hotteok was good too. Their Galbi and Rib Fingers were good too. But their thin slice belly and brisket is soooo thin that it looks like shaved ice meat. When were about to pay, we checked our bill and they charged us for the price of the alcohol drink. Server was like its the same price. The mocktail and alcohol are same price. We were like no. Its not. Its $5 less. We should him the menu and was like let me talk to the manager. He came back and incorrectly reduced the bill. We should him the menu again and said that menu is wrong. And mocktail is $8.98 and not $3.98. Well not according to this menu we said. We asked for the manager and we waited like 30mins for the manager. He fixed everything and gave us the right amout and gave us 10% discount. I feel bad for our server Mark but we want to be charge on the right amount. Its not our fault their menu is incorrect. By the way, they let you review 5 star for a 10% discount Never coming back. May you guys have a good experience

This is one of the newly opened restaurant at UTC. This is located next to Macy’s. We were seated right away when we arrived. Our server, I think his name is Allen, was the star of the experience. He was very helpful and made dining experience more enjoyable. He explained the premium option and convinced us to try it. Food was delicious. Meat quality was pretty decent. Bonchon was very good. Will definitely come back here

As someone who has tried multiple kbbq restaurants, this one has been the most disappointing. To begin, our waiter seemed very pushy for us to order the premium dinner option emphasizing we could drink as much as we wanted for 2.50. After we stated we would do the regular dinner option and stick with water, his demeanor towards us changed to extremely dismissive. Our grill was not changed once throughout our entire meal despite having burnt sauces stuck on it. They also forgot to bring us some meats we ordered two separate times and it took forever to get our card back after having paid. As if the service wasnt bad enough, the meat portions were mediocre. There werent any full pieces of meat, it seems like we were being served the left over crumbs. The corn cheese portion was also a joke, filling only 1/4 of the container it came in. I understand wanting to prevent food waste, but I have never been served this small of a portion at any other kbbq. The bulgogi fries we ordered also came cold with unmelted cheese on them, we had to put them on the grill.

We had tried Gen in other cities before, and I also recommend checking out this new location! The service was pretty good for a newly opened restaurant and the staff were very nice and helpful! The food is great and we like it every time we go to Gen!

Stopped here later in the night and the staff was very friendly and able to accommodate our group of 8 people. They did a great job at taking care of our table and even made the night special for the birthday we were celebrating. There were a few times we were waiting on some food/drinks, but our server Chris did an amazing job overall, and made sure to check in with our table often and help make our dinner amazing. You'll be in good hands if you get him as your server.

Absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment we walked in, everything was top-notch—the atmosphere was welcoming, the food was fresh and full of flavor, and the service truly stood out. Our waiter, Kyle, was exceptional: friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our meal perfect. He gave great recommendations, checked in at just the right times, and made us feel like valued guests without ever being overbearing. Every dish arrived beautifully presented and tasted amazing. This is the kind of place that turns a simple meal into a memorable night out. Huge thanks to Kyle and the whole team—we’ll definitely be back!

Very bad food quality, the meat is not near fresh, some are heavily marinated, others just come up brown color. The plating is also terrible and overall bad quality food and poor service. Worse Korean bbq I ever ate, manna bbq, fire spot bbq are much better.

GEN Korean BBQ truly delivered an outstanding dining experience, and a huge part of that was their incredible service. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming, energetic, and well-organized, setting the tone for a great meal. Kyle, along with the rest of the staff, went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Kyle was attentive, friendly, and genuinely cared about our experience—checking in at the right moments, explaining the menu clearly, and making great recommendations. The employees were quick to refill sides, swap out grills, and respond to any requests without us ever having to ask twice. Everything felt seamless and stress-free. On top of the excellent service, the food came out fresh and high-quality, making the overall experience even better. It was clear that the team works well together and takes pride in what they do. Their positive attitude and professionalism made the meal feel special rather than rushed. GEN Korean BBQ isn’t just about great food—it’s about exceptional hospitality. Kyle and the entire staff turned a regular night out into a memorable experience, and I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for amazing Korean BBQ with top-tier service. My favorite food was the rice sticks.
