You have to come here for happy hour!! On Saturdays I think it was 12-3pm. This bar has such a cool vibe, very speaks easy type feel and they have an amazing happy hour! You get to roll dice to determine the cost of your drink. 1= $1, 2=$2, 3= half price, 4-5-6=-7 full price. It was so fun and a unique way to draw people in! Every drink was hand crafted and EXCELLENT. So well crafted and high quality in every detail. My favorite was the key lime martini which had toasted homemade meringue on top, sooo good!! Every drink we ordered was top-notch.

Bartender created a cocktail based on my taste of gin. Bar was cool and it was nice to sip a drink and get a rest from all the sun. Cheers 🍸

If you love a speakeasy vibe then this is the place to go. Our awesome bartender Stuart made fantastic drinks and conversation. The drinks are to “die” for as you roll the dice during happy hour for your drink price. If you like spicy then get the curried caramel popcorn to snack on. So delish!

Both Missy and Shay are First Class Mixologists. More than bartenders they are True Masters of their Craft. Working beyond the menu to create unique cocktails.... a lost art these days. BRAVO!!!

Went in for a few cocktails. I had the happy dagger, basically a smoked old fashioned with rum instead of burbon. It was great! Bar tender was good and the cocktails were made well. Small and low key before dinner drinks.

Live music outside, fantastic speakeasy type of bar inside. Truly a fun experience in key west on duval street! I’ve only hand drinks here at the inside bar and the outdoor one but i would recommend visiting with friends. It was a great time!

The cocktails here are always fantastic! The service and atmosphere are also great. One of our favorite bars in key west. Cat was one of our bartenders this weekend and she was awesome, as were the ladies working last night, Saturday. The gentleman that does their live music on Friday nights and Saturday nights is AMAZING! Highly recommend the Moscow Mule (they make their own ginger beer 😍) and their old fashion is one of the best we have ever had.

Best cocktails in the Keys (all of them) hands down! Well done General Horseplay!! The cocktail menu is highly immersive and exploratory. The cocktails are served up by knowledgeable and friendly mixologists. All WITHOUT all the pretentious condemnation that usually comes with asking a "novice" cocktail question. Ambiance is dark, eclectic, and excellent. Music is chill. Such a welcome change from the Duval St. nonsense. This place is SPOT ON! I always make sure to stop here when in Key West. If you're a cocktail aficionado, please do the same!!

Very intriguing ambiance! Dark, velvet and trendy! They are famous for chocolate martinis and they put actual candies on the rim. Always great here!!

This our favorite cocktail bar in Key West, and always one of our first stops when we arrive each year. All the cocktails here are incredible and delicious as every one of the bartenders is an extremely talented mixologist and for the most part friendly and helpful. If you are lucky enough to get Eric - you are in for a treat. Not only an incredible mixologist but one of the nicest people in Key West. A delight. We are fortunate to spend every Christmas holiday in Key West , and I will tell you Christmas does not begin until you have had a glass of GH's homemade eggnog! Be smart though, get there on the early side, cuz the elves get in there and drink it up!

The bar is small and cute inside. The music is good. I like the atmosphere. The drinks are mediocre. There's barely any alcohol in the cocktails. Summertime sadness is bad The sloe side has more flavors to it.

Found this place as part of the Key West Craft Cocktail Crawl. Loved the drinks the first time and went back a few times after. Really great quality, creative cocktails. Happy hour is awesome with "roll the dice" for some big discounts. And the back part opens later at night with more entertainment. One of our absolute favorite bars in Key West.

Best speakeasy cocktails in Key West! As a local I come here ALL THE TIME. If you want a crafty martini or fancy cocktail, this is your place. It's always packed at night, and the cocktails take a lot of effort to make, so have patience! This is for the inside bar. I always get espresso martini, or some of their specials with the egg whites mixed in for froth. If you prefer outdoors & live music, the back bar has a simpler drink menu and amazing live band or DJ. You won't get a fancy glass outside at the back bar. But the live music is amazing and so fun. Whether you like an indoor speakeasy or an outside music party, General Horseplay has both! And the best drinks!!

Can't comment on the service. I don't even know if they serve food. The place inside has a cool feel to it. However, for me, the magic was sitting at the table in the alleyway and watching a solo musician effortlessly stacking his own backing tracks before playing to an ever-growing crowd. Okay, five stars. Done.

Cool little cocktail lounge. It has an inside bar with a few tables and a large external area with limited seating in the rear. The front is set up as a concert venue. We sat inside and enjoyed good service at the bar. The staff were friendly and poured some great cocktails. I would definitely check it out when visiting Key West

General Horseplay is my kind of bar. Dark and chill with red tones throughout. Situated right off Duval Street, they still pack a crowd but it's somehow more tolerable here. The drinks are works of art. I ordered the creme bru lime special cocktail, which was overflowing and lovely. The only con was how sticky my hands became and how long it took to access the bathroom to wash them. I also learned here for the first time in my life that multiple dudes will use the urinal at the same time together. Don't ask me how I know that. My friend and I found a cozy table toward the front of the bar and were able to have a nice chat. I didn't love that there were only stools, no seat backs, as I find seat backs to be so much more comfortable.

Stopped in on a rainy Sunday while on a day trip to Key West. The bartender was great! Very knowledgeable and fun to chat with while he made our craft cocktails. This place has a speakeasy sort of vibe. We sat on the front porch and people watched while we sipped our delicious drinks. It was a nice reprieve from the crowded and gross bars on Duval Street. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in Key West.

This place has a super cool atmosphere and vibe. Found it by doing a bar crawl tour and I'm happy we did! Their happy hour is fun too.. you roll a dice to see how much you pay! We both rolled 2's so we only paid $2 each for very nicely hand crafted beverages. They don't serve food here, but you can go to the awesome food truck next door and bring your food in while you hang out in the back yard area and listen to some live music. Caught Sheldon Benton back in town and we were super stoked!!

Sad to say, Generally overhyped. I was excited about this place! Bar and tables were dirty, empty glasses and questionable wet tables. Security and bar staff were not welcoming. We ordered a round of drinks, 1/4 drinks was good (key lime drink). Live music was fun, and really the only reason it's not one Star.

My favorite place in Key West! I used to come here when I lived in FL each visit. It had been a while since I was there. Came in recently because I was on a cruise that docked there. Same old General Horseplay! Quaint inside. I love the happy hour dice game. You can get a great drink for a great price. And it is fun to just roll the dice. Very small place. Only drinks from the bar. Great service. I love this place!

Been here before with some buddies. Oddly I was probably half in the bag and forgot I even stepped in here. But this past weekend. This outstanding cocktail bar / speakeasy in the heart of Duval crushed it. Had a smoked old fashioned and the wifey had a dirty martini. They were prepared with love and care. Props to the bartender!

Great Smokey craft cocktails which is hard to find in Key West plus live music that was good. Nice find among all the places with sugary drinks!!

This is a really cool eclectic little nook in the heart of Key west just off of Duval. They always have a great variety of wonderful musicians. The outdoor courtyard has stadium style seating, which is really unique and wonderful for when it gets busy and it gets busy. The inside bar is a speakeasy type vibe. The bartenders are absolutely top-notch And the craft cocktails on the inside bar are on paralleled. Lots of creativity. Lots of fun you actually get a real glass and there's great energy great vibe, great ambience and then you can step out into the courtyard area where there is another bar. Again, their staff is top-notch.

Key West is a culinary gem both with food and drinks. General horseplay is probably the most unique place in Key West. I know that's a bold statement, but it doesn't fit any other type of Key West establishment, and I love them all. They only serve drinks, the courtyard might serve more food. I'm not sure.

The live music of this place pulls you in from the start you walk into almost like an alley and then you met with this huge stage a bar off to the left hand side and a great atmosphere. The bartenders and the staff are fun they're lively and they can make a d*** good cocktail. Places like this are the reason you come to Key West for vacation. The band that was performing that night was a father and son duo who both played the guitar and they were absolutely amazing the son's voice was stunning.

This is a super fun place off of Duval Street. We went late on a Friday night, and it was fun to go through the "tunnel" to the open back area where it was like a place I have never been to. Open air with a stage, bar, tables, and a cool stadium seating area. The musician was great and the crowd seemed to be regulars. I wish I would have went inside to see all of the fun in there.

Somehow had the pleasure of coming here on the same day as a pup crawl - so many fun dogs to pet and say hi to! Overall, service is quick and super personable; drinks were good and music is loud! We enjoyed hanging out in the back yard area on a Saturday afternoon!

great cocktail bar. go on the weekday between 3-6 and roll the dice. roll 1 a one dollar cocktail, 2 is a 2 dollar drink. 3 is half price, 4-6 is full price. no specials on the weekend. the banana daiquiri is fantastic, ask for an extra banana slice.

Found this lovely little place on our current trip. I recommend the unicorn heart drink and make sure you just take a look around in this new place. It is amazing will definitely return when we return to Key West.

We tried a couple other bars that are part of this chain and enjoyed them and tried this place one evening after dinner... The service was just ok, more on the rushed side, even though they weren't very busy. The bigger issue is they're a "cocktail" bar, but they premix their cocktails and serve them from a tap. I can only assume this is done to ensure they're able to handle the busy times, as mixing individual drinks takes a while, but it's completely unacceptable for a true cocktail bar.... Might as well just grab a beer from the tap, it would be just as exciting. Inside, the vibe was cool and the décor was fun and interesting. Perhaps they individually mix and make cocktails not on their cocktail list, I'm not sure?? Anyway, it's worth a try to see for yourself.

Espresso Martini was pretty good. They could use a waitperson for the number of tables. The bathroom was not very clean. Most people stopped in for one drink. Air conditioning was a plus.

Cool place with cooler vibes. Very laid back. Really good mix of radio hits from many years/genres. Outside is live music for that raw, uncut type of music. You are winning either way. The real star of the show is the drinks, so bring your palette and your saddle. Or just someone you enjoy spending time with that you can horseplay with after.

Our bourbon drinking group fell in love with GH's traditional old fashioned. I personally don't like bourbon so with their non alcoholic options I was able to try the "No-Fashioned". Such a great idea. Beautiful small bar with a fetish for Bill Murray (LOL)

Really cool place. Drinks are expertly crafted. Decor is moody but beautiful. Hard to forget and now a go too place anytime we are down in key west. This last time we enjoyed the DJ on the outside bar/patio. Definitely recommend.

My favorite bar in Key West!! This is off the main street of Duval which is why I liked it. It felt more local, and the drinks were strong and inventive. I loved what they did for happy hour. You got to roll dice. If you rolled a 1, your drink was $1, a 2 $2, 3 and your drink was 50% off, 4, 5 or 6 no deal. These drinks were middle of the range cost wise so it was fun to get a discounted cocktail. The service was so slow if you weren't sitting right at the bar, but despite this I truly enjoyed myself and these amazing drinks.

Like a neighborhood bar with a speak easy feel. We arrived at Happy Hour because they have a pretty cool special on some of their drinks. You order your drink, they hand you a single dice. If you roll a "1" your drink is a buck, roll a "2" your drink is 2 bucks, Roll a "3" your drink is half off, and roll a 4,5,or 6 and you pay the regular price. Our group of 4 had two drinks each and we paid full price for half of our drinks but the other half we paid half price. It was fun and the bar tenders were very personable. They are located just off of Duval and they can get very busy in the afternoon during Happy Hour but it is still a cool place to check out. They also have a craft popcorn that is complimentary and goes great with their craft cocktails.

I have been coming to Key West for 3 years now and my family and I stumbled across this cocktail bar on the way home one night. Walking in, it was refreshing to enter a bar where you could actually sit down and talk with others in your group without having to yell (oh and drink out of glass instead of plastic cups!) That being said, they do have an awesome outdoor stage out back where we listened to bands some nights - so you get the best of both worlds here! All of the drinks we tried were FANTASTIC. I live in Brooklyn and regularly frequent high end cocktail bars throughout NYC so I had high expectations walking in. These drinks were as good or better than the ones I have had in NYC. There is something for everyone on the menu. I definitely recommend the mocha espresso martini - it's one of the best I've had! The glitter unicorn drink was also amazing and perfect level of sweet and tart. My grandmother loves a good bourbon cocktail and she came back several times for the smoked old fashioned. On top of the amazing drinks, the staff is also phenomenal. They're efficient, kind, and really make the drinks was such care and attention. I enjoyed just watching them!! My family and I went several times on our trip and I'll definitely be back when I'm in Key West next.

One of the few fun quirky "craft coctail" bars actually well worth the money. Wholly enjoyable not only because they make wonderful drinks but also the personality of the space compounded with exemplary expert level hospitality. Maybe they're the standard that sets the standard? I wonder what you think. Methinks so, and I ought to know having wasted so much money on less that pretended to be more.

I am a little hesitant to write this review because I don't want anyone else to to know about this bar. Needless to say, I love this bar. It is a true cocktail bar. Their craft drinks are uniquely made with prime ingredients. I tried two drinks. The first one was I pity a fool - whiskey, peach puree, lemon, and black pepper. The second drink was the Murricane - Bourbon, watermelon, lemon, elderflower, and basil. They also have a good selection of wines and beers. It is a nice casual, laidback, eclectic bar with super friendly bartenders. I was pleasantly surprised and I am glad I found this place. 5 stars.

If you want a margarita they are really good at General Horseplay. And generally not too busy.

Really liked the interior of this place. Sort of a speakeasy vibe, better than most places in key west. If I had to classify it I would say it is a craft cocktail bar with some things like nuts and olives to pick on. They have a good craft beer selection. The spicy margarita was one of the best my companion has had. Not very big on the smaller side. Just steps away from Duval street.

This spot is fantastic! We hosted a friend's wedding after-party here. Melissa was soooooo kind and helpful. We had a sectioned off area right by the stage which was perfect. Such a chill vibe but also a wonderful place to get lit and dance. Service was quick and friendly too!

I did a ton of research for an awesome cocktail bar in key west for our trip and this is the one that caught my eye. If you're tired of the same old cocktail menus and looking for drinks that are fresh and creative, General Horseplay is the spot. The place has a real cool eclectic vibe that represents their mixology style well. There's both an inside and an outside. We chose to sit at the bar and we're greeted by two friendly bartenders. Tried the Thai chi chi and the murricane. The murricane was right up my alley, being a bourbon drink with some fun flavors like watermelon, elderflower, and basil. My wife loved the Thai chi chi which was almost like a vodka piña colada with nutmeg. Creamy with great light tropical flavors. This was our favorite drink of the whole trip. $13.50 for each drink that we ordered. Others go from $11 to $21. I thought the prices were fine since most cocktails seem to be $15 these days and key west is no inexpensive town. We only got to stay for one drink since we had to make our dinner reservations, but the next time we're in town I'll definitely be stopping back over here.

Great vibe. Amazing cocktails (Eric made a great French 75) definitely go if you're looking for a true cocktail bar that's not just slinging volume drinks. Service was perfect, staff really friendly and we met fun people at the bar.

So I never thought in 1 million years say we able to be at the place that used to be here three decades ago called Reds place. Reds place was an icon in Key West in the 80s. Maybe even part of the 90s. Since then it's been a series of intermittently OK but not great places. Enter General horseplay. Holy cow I was shocked. Yeah it's a bit hipster for Key West. But despite that fact they sell it Well. The bartenders are nice and oh so good at they job. They have this awesome plaque to honor Red and his spirit that still hangs out here. The decor is early American Irish pub and it works. David the bartender is the best ever. Seriously. Great bartenders great atmosphere. I'm sold. I'll be Mac later tonight when I dry out!!

Best bar in Key West! Has something for everyone. Cocktails are always made to perfection! Cool vibe, good music, great bartenders, even the door guy is the coolest . Love it here, will come back 1000 times!

If you are looking for a bar near Duval St that does not serve drinks in plastic cups, GH is for you! We were looking for a laidback cocktail lounge and this fit the bill. The vibe is so cool and they play good music. It is very kitsch-y with lots of interesting things to look at, but not in a tacky way. The cocktails are amazing and super inventive! I can't remember the last time I was so excited about craft cocktails that were actually, well crafted. The bartender Melissa is an absolute sweetheart and makes the best espresso martini! They don't really have food but they have snacks. We got a spicy curry popcorn that was delicious but sooo spicy. This was seriously my favorite bar we went to and I will definitely be back/recommend it to anyone visiting Key West

Best Happy Hour ever!!! Andre was amazing at making cocktails and chatting with everyone at the bar. Monday thru Friday from 3-6 they have Happy Hour where you roll a die and if you get a 1 your drink is $1, a 2 and your drink is $2, a 3 and your drink is half off. Anything else you pay full price. It's good on any drink under $20. What a fun concept! It was easy to make friends at the bar. Rose was also great behind the bar. We will definitely come back here next time we are in Key West. Thank you Andre for a fun afternoon!
