Hello, my fellow yelpers... This is an unfortunate review to write, as I'm the most supportive and uplifting person EVER. And honestly, I feel a bit sad articulating such an atrocious experience. But being said, here goes...
The back story, my girlfriend and I love ceramics and also really cool, interesting pieces for our home. Consequently, we're always looking to find local companies to explore, outside of the monotonous overproduced norms like Crate & Barrel, CB2, West Elm or many others alike. Being said, we shop with Humble Ceramics a great deal, as well as a few other favs. So coming across General Store (who carries the line) was an absolute joy for us, even though we live all the way in Glendale, which on a Saturday is a world away if you're living in Los Angeles. But I digress.
The now story, we wanted to take a trip to the west side and shop at the store we both discovered and fell in love with on Instagram. Interestingly enough, what greeted us or lack there of was a loveless, cold, uninviting and snobbish culture that made us feel unwelcome, uncomfortable, and overwhelmingly shunned! Honestly, I wish I could say someone was at least mean or hostile or snarky but that would require actual interaction or acknowledgement to warrant it. We spent maybe 20 minutes in the store (because we still wanted to explore it), and no one said anything to us. NOT ONE PERSON... NOT ONE WORD! The THREE ladies greeted, conversed with, and bid well wishes to every customer of their own hue who came in and out of the store in that 20 odd minutes, and somehow missed a six foot, fashion forward black man and a super regal, kind, fair skinned woman, with the most lovely British accent you'd ever want to hear. Ohhhh, but they somehow managed to be keen on straightening ala maintaining as we call it at J. Crew (Oh- I managed J.Crew for years, btw... ) in every section we walked to and through... But still nothing but the trending looks of the good ol' American Profiling that some people do and I feel or we felt trying to support General Store, a company we fell in love with but it hated us...
I think, conclusively... Shop at or through the actual vendors they carry. The store was cute and they had lovely pieces (which is why we wanted to shop them). Buuut... Your experience will probably be better and time/money better spent going to or seeking out the sources of said pieces.
