This hostel is cool and friendly, with excellent value for money. The location is great, and there are wonderful common areas with live music and games every day, creating a fun and social atmosphere. At the time of our stay, there was some street construction near the entrance, which was a bit noisy in the morning, but of course this is not the hostel’s fault and does not take away from its merits. Overall, highly recommended!

Google
Fantastic service! Simple standard (it is a hostel, after all) but good rooms, and great if simple fare in the restaurant. ||The staff whipped up some great burger meals taking our allergies into consideration. And the best chili cheese nuggets I've had in a long time!

Google
Generator Hostel in Copenhagen has an unbeatable location. I stayed in a private room for two and it was super clean and comfortable. The hostel has a great vibe with events throughout the week, a lively bar, a coffee shop, and a hangout area. What really stood out to me was seeing a mix of both young travelers and families with kids—it truly has everything you need for a stay in the city. Other friends had mentioned that their room had a lot of noise over the weekend through the windows, but it was also pride weekend. If you are there during a busy weekend, probably better to ask for a room on the other side of the building not looking into the main street I personally did not have thisissue.

Google
Very central location, close to basically everything you want to see whilst visiting Copenhagen. Great staff 24/7. Very clean rooms and the whole hostel had a great vibe. 10/10 recommend! Felt very safe to leave belongings in the room since we get our own drawers under the bed with you can lock if you bring or buy a lock.

Google
Window along the street and unfortunately they were doing some construction so you woke up at 6am every weekday despite earplugs. incredibly small double rooms so wondered how small the single rooms must be!? despite that, super friendly staff, clean and good location. Many guests were backpackers so ok prices but expensive for a poor Swede..

Nice place to visit as tourist very nice to eat and make new friends. The room isn't much but it is clean compact. For the price it's perfect 👌

Google
There is nothing good about this hotel except its location. There is no air conditioning, what is the point of opening all the curtains and windows and making the room 50 degrees inside. You can get old waiting for the elevator, and when you get in, you can feel swaying and in danger of falling at any moment. Consider yourself lucky if the light in your room is on. A place that does not deserve the money you give in terms of cleanliness.

I stopped here for a couple of nights during my improvised roadtrip through Europe, and I really liked the environment. It felt like coming home for a while. Great staff, good rooms, nice ambiance in the bar, comfortable bed and everything was clean.

Yelp
This hotspot has several faces; casual bar upstairs with an array of fun games, cafe with good food, hostel with laundry & shower facilities, outdoor patio area, and the ice bar downstairs! This review focuses on the regular bar and cafe upstairs. Great food with generous portions are offered; we enjoyed several menu items! I couldn't finish the loaded fries; it would feed 2 adults! Several interesting pre-mixed house drinks on tap, as well as Fisk and other regular drinks! And we loved the foosball and other games!

Yelp
Shower flooded the entire room. So hot we have to keep the entrance door open and one of us is sleeping on top the window sill. Considering sleeping in the lobby.

Yelp
Awful. Higher priced than the other options, there's no practical reason for that. You'll also want more blankets and pillows as the bedding leaves much to be desired. Not recommended. Bar is expensive. The Ice Bar downstairs is also a big tourist trap because it's only one room and the drinks are obviously watered down. Meals here are also way above what you an get on the street immediately outside the hostel. My main reason for writing is because the staff will bark and clap orders at you as if teenagers going through puberty. Why is that necessary? Also, you'll have to wait there at the reception because they aren't trained with how to operate their systems. In my experience on Christmas day I went down to the lobby at about 8AM. I met two employees while having a nice conversation with guests in the lobby. The employee waited for a half hour while figuring out if he could extend my stay, saying there was an issue with moving a bed around. I mentioned due to Christmas I may be leaving early and asked if I could simply come back at 10AM to find out what they were able to figure out, he said that would be fine. Somehow at 10AM I woke up to someone clapping in my ear. I use my sheet as a curtain as I bring my own blanket to use at hostels. The same employee, a while male working at 8AM-10AM pulled down the curtain and began yelling and stomping his feet. Are you serious? I believe this is because two female housekeepers were present and there is a hormonal teenage issue being worked out. I got out of bed and said I'm an attorney and this is an obvious assault. I asked his name, he refused to provide it. Later after calling the same employee hung up on me twice while refusing to provide his name. So awful. So now I'm calling the police on Christmas. Imagine suddenly hearing clapping in your ear and someone grabbing a curtain by your head to wake you up. Also, in anticipation of a rebuttal by the owner let me clarify a few things. First off, they have a late checkout option. No one at any time offered or explained this to me during my stay, only afterward while clapping in my ear. The Staff are disorganized and divided, if I had known this it still however would not of been appropriate due to the following. I actually left my credit card information with the rude worker so that he could simply figure out their own system and place the charge. So bad. Stay away. God awful, no thanks. If you're in the area and are looking for the same feel but a step up and at a lower price, "Wake Up" is literally right around the corner and has a much higher quality which is immediately present in the warm check-in staff. There is just no reason to stay at or support this hostel. So far Wake Up around the corner is amazingly better, ... computers in the lobby, kitchens (Generator doesn't have any) and bigger rooms for less. Wake up will be a much better option, or, ... really any hostel. Not this one. Thanks.

Yelp
This review is solely based on my experience with the bar and the food, not the rooms. I use the bare area for workspace, as I appreciate the ambience and having easy access to a fully equipped bar/cafeteria, a great wifi and bathrooms within reach. Generator Hostel Copenhagen is among my favorite "offices". As a freelancer, I enjoy working from home, but I most certainly enjoy working OUT of my home - at libraries and cafes, for instance. Generator provides me with the necessary facilities, like power outlets, coffee at a reasonable price, and a fast network. When hunger sets in, there is always the sandwiches and/or the spring rolls with sweet and hot chili sauce to keep me happy and rollin'

Yelp
Conveniently located in Copenhagen, easy walk to the Metro, or the famous Nyhaven canal area and waterfront. TONS of cool stuff to do within the "Number 1 Voted Hostel in Denmark." There's bocce ball courts, outdoor areas, a bar, numerous lounges, shuffleboard, lockers, breakfast, the list goes on. One amenity I'd highly suggest is the bicycle rentals. You can rent in 6, 24, or 72 hour intervals. Copenhagen is really flat, and easily bike-able! There are designated bike lanes all over the city, and pedestrian and bicycle only bridges, bikes have the right of way in bike lanes, so if you're walking, get out of their way. We had a room with 2 single beds and a full bathroom. It was tiny, no TV, but all we did there is sleep and shower. I think cheaper options were bunk rooms with 4-8 beds. No Air Conditioning, but not too many places in Scananavia do. They do, however have an "Ice Bar" on site. Proof of staying at the Generator apparently gets you discounts for Ice Shots and other drinks. So, basically if you want a super cool kids kind of place for home base while in Copenhagen that's cheaper and close to lots cool things, this is where you go. Right here.

Yelp
I chose Generator because I stayed in one in Berlin and it was a great experience. Comparatively, the Copenhagen version was just okay. I stayed in a six person suite, which was kind of annoying. There was a small bathroom and a separate shower room, with the sink in the common area. So not really much room for privacy (yes, I had the pleasure of listening to a suite mate grunting on the toilet while I was trying to sleep). There's only one communal hallway shower for the whole building, which is silly. In most of the other hostels I've stayed at, there have been multiple first-come-first-serve full bathrooms on every floor. It wasn't all bad though. The under-bed storage lockers are pretty big, just be sure to bring your own lock or you'll need to buy one. The bar downstairs (Petanque Bar) is convenient and sometimes there's live music (though annoying when you can hear them playing from your room upstairs). It's hard to beat the location as well. Very close to Kongens Nytorv and to the botanic gardens. You can walk to most places from here, though the local bars leave a lot to be desired. Copenhagen's an expensive city, so I guess if it makes sense to cut costs somewhere, it's with where you're staying. I don't regret choosing Generator. All the more reason to get up early and stay out late!

Yelp
Nice terrace and good happy hour. Good location and nice hostel filled with young and smiley people. The not so great thing is that they barely play music in the bar (neither inside nor outside) ...

Yelp
My now husband and I just came back from Copenhagen after staying at the Generator there. We highly recommend it. We eloped in Copenhagen, and the entire staff was so accommodating. They even comp'ed us a bottle of nice champagne as a congratulations...how classy is that?!?!?! We also loved Marta who checked us in...she was so very sweet! Only issue was that, when we booked our room, we clicked on "premium deluxe", and the photo it shows is not a room that is actually available in the Copenhagen location (it's a picture of some room in their Stockholm location, I think). Anyway, this premium deluxe is over $100 USD more than the premium double, which is what they gave us. We wrote to the head office, and they gave us a refund of the difference that we were charged. It was all that we wanted, and they were able to do this very quickly. It is due to the promptness and professionalism that we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely do it again!

Yelp
I managed to avoid hostels for sometime because I did not get to travel much at my last job. Now that I can travel again, I was a bit hesitant but ready to give this hostel game another try! The hostel life before Generator was dark and grim.... ok..it was more like "am I going to find a dark room with dirty sheets and wish I had stayed at a hotel?". Generator made my transition smooth and made me a hostel-believer (is that a thing?!?) again!!! Copenhagen location was easy to find, centrally located close to bunch of bars and the Christmas markets! The whole building has a modern vibe to it. It was nice to see a big bar and lounge area, with lots of people socializing. I booked a bed in a room of 6 people. Not everyone was there when I arrived. I was pleasantly surprised to find a storage box under the bed, making me a lot less worried about my personal belongings. It was nice that the toilet and the shower were separate to make it easy for people use one, while keeping the other free. What was nice to hear was that my friend who lives in Copenhagen had came to the Generator's bar to meet her friends before. I guess they have a good atmosphere! I only stayed there one night so I did not get to socialize or discover the hostel as much but I had a peaceful stay! I will definitely stay at another Generator hostel!

Yelp
Honestly one of the nicer hostels I've ever stayed in. The staff were great, accidentally slept in on the day I was supposed to check out but the guys were very understanding and we had a laugh about it. I would recommend sorting out any breakfast/dinner passes online instead of using cash, saves a lot of time and hassle. All in all a great place to stay!

Yelp
I stayed in the 8 person dorm room. The experience people get is largely based on what they do and their bunkmates. Luckily mine were respectable but unfortunately not too sociable. However this is not something hostels can actually facilitate which is safety, atmosphere of common area, and comfort. The safety of this hostel is 5 stars. They provided a generously sized lock box for each bed. I was able to fit all my belongings in it. NOTE: like most places you have to bring your own lock. Commons area of this place is also 5 stars. They have the icebar on the first floor which requires you to wear this special coat before you go in. It's worth the experience at least. Their actual bar on the second floor has a nice rooftop outing and good happy hour specials that go from good to great when a soccer (football) game is on. I came at the time the champions league semifinals of atleti and real madrid were playing and they have a large area of comfortable sofas that people could watch the game on or the bar. I opted for the bar for ease of access on refills. Comfort is something that I usually rate 5 stars since it take very little for me too be comfy. The beds themselves were nice and the linens were changed every 5 days (and anytime someone left)

Yelp
The stay at this place was more bitter than sweet for me. The Sweet: - It's centrally located and I was able to pretty much walk outside and be in the middle of a hip shopping district with bars and restaurants and points of interest to see in this cool city. One evening stroll from here and I was pretty much done with checking out the major landmarks. - I will also really remember my night there! My double bed was pushed all the way to the window wall. The bed was very comfortable, I had all the extra pillows from other unused beds in the room and I could literally prop every part of my body on them. The spring air coming through open window was very refreshing and good night sleep inducing. The bitter: - Check out time is at 10am and they are serious about it. You can either pay for late check out, or use their lockers to store your luggage if you are not ready to leave. It was a huge inconvenience to me to have to wake up in the morning, look for cash machines and withdraw money just to pay for the stupid locker. I was here just for one night, was not planning to have to withdraw Danish money and be stuck with unused coins at the end. Also it's problematic to do your company expense report for this item, as the locker doesn't give receipts. - I wish I didn't listen to all the reviews and gone to their happy hour. It was all right, but I left my favorite blazer in the bar or lounge area behind. When I came back for it the next morning nobody has turned it back. Be careful with your stuff there! It must have been kept by either one of their bar staff or other "lovely" fellow hostel dwellers. I was really, really sad about it, as it was a new and expensive purchase. I talked to the reception desk and bar people about it a couple of times. I think I was a nuisance to them and I could see them exchange the looks when they saw me checking on it again. Because of the bitter part of my experience I would not recommend or stay here next time I am in Copenhagen.

Yelp
I've stayed in other generator hostels and had mixed experiences, but the location in Copenhagen changed my opinion on the hostel chain. The common area is vast and the bar has fantastic drink specials (in terms of Scandinavian pricing). In fact, I met several groups of locals at the bar who come solely for the happy hour. Great place for solo travellers or groups. The breakfast wasn't worth the price though. Instead, go to the Aldi right around the corner and treat yourself to an unknown Danish treat or two.

Yelp
I'm not a hostel connoisseur having only stayed in two in my life, both in private rooms with private baths, and one 12 years ago another in June. But I can recognize this is the leader in the class for hostels. Stylist mag did a luxury trip on a budget cost and highlighted the same brand in Venice. The name stuck with me and I didn't even look at any other hotels or hostels when we decided to take a few day jaunt to Copenhagen. The location is superb - right by Nyhavn. Walkable to nearly everything and right by the metro to catch local and regional trains and buses. The private twin room was very clean. Wood floors, white linens on the bed, and a towel provided as we had a private bath. The only thing is, while there were hangers, there we no drawers. But we had such a small bag (easy jet!) that it didn't matter. Copenhagen is an extremely expensive city so the price we paid was awesome for us. We did take advantage of the happy hour at he bar (5-6, 9-10 nightly) one night and ended up meeting a large group visiting for a stag do. That night ended out with the bartenders as well as the stag do. Had fun and made some memories. While at the bar, we noticed people of all ages at the food tables, in the bar, and at the multiple couches to lunge in or using the various computers open for all. I felt this was a place you could choose to enjoy the atmosphere, or not. Water pressure and temp was good. bed was comfortable. Our room was on the street overlooking the entrance. While the windows blocked a lot of noise, if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. Check in and out was very easy. They have a room to store all people's bags too. I would definitely recommend and stay again - not even consider anything else - on my next Copenhagen trip.

Yelp
I am a frequent business traveller to this hotel. In general: Extremely friendly staff, very clean rooms, Some of the hotel amenities: Bar, lounge, pool billard, roof terrace, large TV, daily theme parties Hints: On the second floor there is a disco zone. Make sure you stay far away with your room. Sometimes it was a bit loud. :-D I usually take the 4th or 5th? floor. Enough distance.

Yelp
clean and safe hostel in the middle of the city friendly reception and large open spaces for people to hang out the dorms have a large storage locker as well very very affordable rates as well

Yelp
My rating is about visiting for drinks rather than staying the night. (Sadly I stayed in a different, rubbish hotel) I have been to loads of hostels in various counties over the years and this one is certainly up there as a one of the best in terms of the bar area. For a start it's bloody massive with loads of different areas to sit in and also hideaway in if you want. When we were the there was lots of groups sitting around drinking beers and generally chilling out in the cool modern looking space. Beer wise I got a lovely bottle of Jackhammer IPA. My only complaint was they seemed to have Usher on repeat on the sound system! Arrrrgggghhhh - I'm sure that does not last for ever though. Cool place for a beer in a smart, hype and modern atmosphere.

Yelp
When it comes to traveling, I like to keep it low key. That's why a hostel's not really the number one option for me. I like my space and I like freedom to do whatever I fancy but let me tell you, this place is A OK. The rooms were clean and warm which is quite important when traveling to Kobenhavn in the middle of January. The staff was great, especially joe - great dude! My favorite thing was definitely the photo booth in the back by the bar. The place was cheap enough (about 30 bucks a night) and it was a perfect location in the middle of the city. I wish I had gotten the chance to eat at the hostel restaurant but I did have a drink or two at the bar. Overall, good experience in this modern, warm, and welcoming space.

Yelp
Fantastic hostel in a great location in central Copenhagen. Very safe (key cards to get into your room/take the elevator, under-bed lockers as well as lockers on the main floor if you have too much luggage, although the lockers are really spacious). Clean, very helpful staff. I will definitely stay here if I come back to Copenhagen.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
I stayed at a 4-person bunk bed for a weekend and loved it. There was a shower and separate WC in the room, plenty of space for myself and three guys. The hostel was well managed, staff was friendly and very helpful, bike rental was affordable and easy, great place. It seemed like there was a lot of effort put into activities and the bar, even though i didn't get a chance to check them out. The ONLY thing I would mention is that our room smelled a little funny when we'd first get in after being away. I couldn't quite place what it was... But Copenhagen is one of the most expensive cities in the world, so it was well worth saving with a hostel and spending your holiday €€ in the city.
google avatar

Nancy J.

Yelp
Loved this place! Warm, friendly, fun and so much help. Easiest way to connect right into the city. They have bikes for rent, wifi throughout, a fantastic cafe (one of the few places I could get a mocha) and great lounge areas. Don't forget the pentaque (bocci ball) bar! So fun!!! Seriously, it's near everything, so cozy and the staff was ridiculously helpful. I really loved being there.

Yelp
This is a hostel, so I will rate it as a hostel. Some are afraid of hostels and they should not be. A modern hostel is like a hotel without all the comforts. They can be the sleeping barrack that you share with others, while I prefer the single or double room that are like a hotel room without excess of space or television or phone or anything else but a bathroom and a bed - this forces you out of your temporary lair and IS a good thing.. because who want to spend precious vacation days in a room? Generator is a good example of a modern hostel and has a big common area with a bar. The bartenders doesn't know anything - but this is not a high end bar, more like a fraternity living room with strangers. Everyone is a stranger, and that is pretty cool too. At night the whole place turns into some kind of ad hoc lounge. Where vagabonds and strangers congregate and share life stories and body fluids. My transaction with Generator was a breeze. I will stay here again if the occasion calls for it.

Yelp
I've been at Generator Hostel during the Yelp elite event. Since it is an Hostel, I thought it was a sad and poor version of an big hotel. It is absolutely not: Outside the building could remind you a gray and sad place where to stay for a short time, but inside the rooms are enough big and enough small to meet new friends and meet nice people from Copenhagen. They have 3 different kind of room: the normal one, shared with other 5 people, the "private one", similar to a BnB, and the "Premium one" that comes with some "hipster" or cool forniture and several services. But the best side of the Generator is the main area, where you can listen to music, connect to internet, have a beer with friends, play pool, watch sport matches: there is an entire floor for activities. If I will ever have some guests, I will ask them to stay at Generator, the place is cozy, in the city center and well connected to Nørreport and other stations.

Yelp
It was very difficult to find a reasonable priced place to stay so I'm glad my friend and Google pointed us to Generator. The rooms are clean and the staff very friendly. The common spaces like the bar, eating area and living rooms are all very nice. The location is also very good. Great swing night too! Only down side is the hire bikes, they are ok but they don't seem to have a system to check if they work, so we had to change a few times until we got decent ones. Most had flat tyres, broken breaks, no lights, etc. I'll definitively come back here.

Yelp
This was our first Generator Hostel and having been to the new Paris Hostel, have to say it's tip top. Fabulously friendly staff, a great location, quirky interiors and wonderful facilities. We were here during the World Cup and there were so many nationalities all cheering for each other's teams, wish the United Nations were there too. We're definitely coming back to this wonderful city and this great venue.
google avatar

Flavia P.

Yelp
had the private room and although is big enough and the bed is ok it doesn't justify the price. we were there for 4 nights and they never cleaned the room. the place is in central which is very convenient but it gets very noisy in the evenings , lots of young people parting i guess. the public toilets at the first floor are just disgusting, it doesn't look like they clean them so often. we ate 1 time at the restaurant and the food was good and not that expansive for Cph. The bar was also ok.
google avatar

Rebecca J.

Yelp
We loved this hotel-hostel. We visited Copenhagen in July 2015!! we loved that there was a bar downstairs, a large and cozy terrace, you could eat in at the hotel and there was a large cozy entertainment area with a television, seating, pool table and fun room. The staff was fantastic and the rooms were very clean. We will be staying again in July 2016.
google avatar

Leo A.

Yelp
I traveled with a bunch of guys for a bachelor party and we didn't stay in our rooms that much; GC is clean and relatively cheap (compared with other arrangements in Copenhagen). As far as hostels go, this one might be the best I've stayed at
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
The Generator Copenhagen is in a great location right in the center of town. The place is huge and is very clean and well equipped. The bar area is pretty cool and had a relaxed vibe. The food was reasonably priced but the quality wasn't great. However, the dorm room I was in was absolutely roasting, it was like sleeping in a sauna. It was also incredibly noisy at night, it felt like the nightclub down the road was in my room.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
The ideal hostel. The location is super central and excellent. It's clean, cheap, full of young people, and has stuff going on (movie night, a bar).
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
Since I was mostly couchsurfing, I only had one night here. It was extremely clean, the staff were very friendly, and it was conveniently located. If I return to Copenhagen, I'll definitely be stopping in here (and hopefully remembering to bring my own towel).
google avatar

Noelle F.

Yelp
The Generator hostel is definitely one of the best hostels I've stayed in. It's clean, it's modern, the staff is friendly, it's in a great location, and its a decent price. I highly recommend doing the free walking tour that is offered - I learned about and saw a lot of the city that way. The only reason they loose a star is that I wish some sort of breakfast were included in the room rate. Luckily with their location you can find plenty of alternatives nearby, or just buy one item of their breakfast menu (I liked the parfait). Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Please return my 502 DKK that Generator Hostel Copenhagen stolen from me -back onto my card! I didn't receive any service/accomodation for my booking from October 25 till October 27, 2014. We were just pushed out from the hostel by the receptionist Jo just upon our arrival at 2 pm on October 25. We were forced to go away by the ugly receptionist Jo who cancelled our reservation. That's unfair that you withdrawn from us 502 DKK just for nothing - an essential amount for us in CPH. I'm sure that immediately our places were sold out to other new guests! - That's an awful way to steal the money from tourists! ..and before creating the confusing rules for booking. We had to look for another place to stay those days even if we were extremely tired by our travel to CPH. In Generator we were just robbed with that amount and didn't receive any service. Shame on you!

Yelp
Very clean, very well-located, very well-run hostel in Copenhagen. This is an expensive city generally and this hostel is also pricey, but I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely go back. My six-bed dorm was clean and there was a bathroom in the room, which made things super convenient.

Kay D.

Yelp
Loved this hostel! This is on the pricy end for a hostel stay (had a twin private) €112 per night, but the rooms were very clean and beds are extremely comfortable and new. More hotel than hostel. The staff is all super friendly and the bar/communal spaces are excellent, clean and inviting. The hostel is very close to the metro stop from airport and so close to everything, was definitely worth the price. Did not have any issues w the exception of some noisy neighbors but it's a hostel- deal w it! Would suggest you take advantage of happy hour at the bar- Copenhagen is an expensive city and deals will help! Breakfast looked good as well didn't purchase it though. Coffee bar is great!

Geoffrey K.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The people that work here are very rude and unaccommodating. They see guests as dollar signs only. They are also barely willing to help. It is also next to a very loud street (the loudest street in he city), so good luck getting any sleep. The rooms and facilities are also very dirty and I had bed bugs in my bed. I would NEVER recommend staying here. Ever
