27 Best Hotels in Madrid

"Younger travelers will be glad to know there’s a cool, affordable hostel in Madrid. Generator has a solid location—just off Gran Vía—and plenty of swagger. Solo travelers can share two-, four-, or eight-person rooms with bunk beds. All rooms have hardwood floors and exposed metal accents; double rooms have cushioned headboards and funky design details. Unlike a full-service hotel, some showers are located in hallways; like a full-service hotel, though, there are power and USB ports—and you don't need to pay extra for sheets. There's a lively bar scene (and great views) up on the rooftop terrace. Generator is worth it for the price—and the potential to make new friends. Save your euros for an amazing meal or cool tour."

The 7 Best Hostels in Madrid (Updated 2025)

"Just steps from Gran Vía, this five-story Generator has two bars (one inside, one on the roof) so it’s easy to hang out and meet other travelers; the rooftop terrace even has jacuzzis. The dorm beds are super comfy with thick mattresses and each bed has a reading light, personal shelf, USB ports, outlets, and under-bed lockers. There’s no kitchen but the bars serve food and a filling breakfast is offered for €7.50; I also noted cheap bike rentals and a 10% HostelPass discount, and included it as the Best Hostel for Families on my list." - Matthew Kepnes

This place was great! All the staff was very kind and helpful. I highly recommend adding the breakfast to your stay. The breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of food and drinks. Amalia was super helpful with getting us everything we needed and she was really quick to bring out more dishes and swap out foods that had been finished! It was a great way to start our day each day!

Location is great. Atmosphere is fun. Clean rooms. Many planned activities. We did Sangria making at the rooftop bar with Victor and Yesica. They were both awesome and made it fun. Definitely check out rooftop while there.

Visiting this rooftop in Madrid was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, with one of the best panoramic views of the city you could ask for. The service was exceptional — attentive without ever feeling rushed. What made the evening even more special was the amazing team behind it. Rena greeted us with such warmth and made us feel right at home. Queenie has an incredible eye for detail and ensured everything at our table was perfect. Eli was so friendly and brought such great energy to every interaction, really elevating the experience. And Gean Carlo… what a host! His charisma and professionalism tied everything together, making the night feel seamless and memorable. If you’re in Madrid and want a rooftop that combines stunning views, delicious drinks, and genuinely wonderful people, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!

Great option for your accommodation. Do.not rely on vending machines for anything, otherwise very comfy and quiet hostal with a convenient resto-bar and different events/activities every day. Reception was fantastic any day/ time of day, comfortable temperature, and spacious, concenient lockers for bags after checkout.

Google
amazing place to stay! The staff was so incredibly friendly. This is located in the perfect spot of the city. It is super close to the metro! There was a great atmosphere in the hostel. The only complaint is that the shower room has a motion sensor light so it will shut off in the middle of your shower. Overall had such a great time and would recommend

Loved this place, the breakfast was really good and Amalia at the breakfast service was really helpful! The bar is also really cool!! Only issue I had during my stay was in the room we were 8 girls and there was never enough paper toilet. I would definitely come back and recommend

Well I did not enjoy this stay. - The main problem is that I booked this place for the rooftop and the jacuzzi. And the jacuzzi was on maintenance and the rooftop was empty, no activity no bar. When I arrived no one told me that the jacuzzi was closed or apologized. - I wouldn’t have left a bad review if they had offered any sort of help, free coffee for example. - They charge to keep the luggage on the day of check out and check out is at 10am. I believe I paid 4€ for 4hours of storage 😱 There’s not much I enjoyed but these things would have been ok for me if the jacuzzi was opened like they advertised. - The place was not super clean which is something normal to me in a big hostel chain like this one. Lots of things dropped on the floor and not cleaned. - I also had a bad experience with the bar that took way too long to take my order when the bar was not packed. Not a big fan of the menu and thought it was pretty expensive for Spain. Not enough Spanish food :/ - Not a big fan of the area, probably too touristy. - The hostel did not feel social, lots of families and I didn’t know where to find people who were like me looking for people to hang out with. - Also that’s not their fault but I had a non refundable booking and I arrived too late in Madrid and could not come the first night of my booking. They did not offer anything which I get but l the jacuzzi and luggage storage problem was just too much. - Offer solutions I should not be asking for them.

Currently staying here on a study abroad program and it’s fantastic. We just ate at the bar and Victor was amazing. He was helpful, nice, and took great care of us. We’re going back for more drinks and food later!

Yelp
We had a private room for 2, with a private bathroom for 2 nights. Pros: Clean, functional, great rooftop bar, recently updated Cons: Check-in line was very long, creaky beds, minimal air conditioning, DJ starts at 6pm and doesn't stop until midnight or so, restaurant isn't very good, "game room" is highly advertised but not much of anything If you're just looking for a place to sleep, as most hostel guests are, I wouldn't dissuade you.

Yelp
Pros: -Excellent location. This is exactly where you want to be for your Madrid explorations -We're in a double private with en-suite. The room is small but well appointed with a desk, smart TV, and ample lighting. The bathroom is large and functional. -In the double it's two twin beds you can roll together or apart. Perfect for couples or friends -Very clean -We're on the 5th floor and have found it to be nice and quiet -Nice downstairs bar -Rooftop bar Cons: -Tons of children. A confusing amount of children.

Yelp
This hotel is so horrible. We came in after our flight landed and weren't even greeted before we were berated and taunted by the staff for coming in before 3pm even though we had told them 4 weeks in advance the time we would be arriving. They never told us our check in time, but we had clearly informed them exactly when we would be arriving. Every member of the staff we came into contact with was a rude bully. Would give 0 stars if possible.

Yelp
The rooms are actually pretty dope, and I met some really cool people staying there. No complaints about the room. HOWEVER...beware - the staff service is absolutely horrible. I stood there at the "restaurant" and waited 25 MINUTES, with nobody there to tell me how breakfast worked or what to do...I saw other people walking in and serving themselves, so I finally did the same (after 25 minutes of waiting with no service, mind you). After I sat down and started eating breakfast, a woman walks up and asks me for a ticket..I said I'm sorry, all I have is a room key. I was waiting for somebody at the hostess desk, but nobody showed up for 25 minutes. She proceeded to humiliate me by trying to insinuate that I was basically stealing their breakfast (mind you, I'm a pre-paid customer at Generator for 4 nights)...I said, can I just pay now? She basically rolled her eyes at me and said she would "handle it" and walked away...It gets better...she didn't give me any details on the pricing, so I pulled out 9 Euros and just placed it on the table in front of me, and when she came back, she, once again, lectured me on the process and attempted to humiliate me, and walked away with 6 of my euros on the table(price of breakfast apparently). After she did this, I got up to grab another coffee, and when I came back, the remaining 3 euros were gone....which whatever, it's trivial really. The woman was beyond rude. I notice service though, all around Spain, is pretty horrible, and it's clear they hate Americans, even Spanish-speaking Americans like myself....also, just as I was about to click "post", this lady walks around the corner and gives me a really dirty look, so now the 2 stars have been downgraded to 1 star. Maybe she is also just homophobic toward me? Who knows...
