Order Cubs and White Sox Shave Ice in the West Loop to Celebrate Opening Day | Eater Chicago

"A West Loop Japanese restaurant known for savory okonomiyaki pancakes, it is offering seasonal kakigori (Japanese shave ice) with two baseball-themed versions: a north-side option topped with Cracker Jack ice cream, birthday-cake syrup, red-velvet cookies and chocolate coffee beans, and a south-side option with mint-chip ice cream, frosted-mint syrup, Oreo crumble, chocolate coffee beans and a cocoa team-cookie cap. Each dessert is priced at $17, with the chef-owner noting the cost reflects specialty equipment (including an imported machine), custom ice molds, homemade ice creams, syrups, garnishes and labor." - Ashok Selvam

My family ate dinner here to celebrate my husband's birthday. This restaurant was his choice and I think he had a good time here. Our waitress was great and the chef was good and kept everyone smiling. The food was all tasty. We ordered appetizers and enjoyed them along with the soup and salad. The fried rice and noodles were good too.

I just wish I could give a review on the food. However, we had a reservation for 6:30. We arrived just before that, and was advised that it would be about a 15 minute wait as they had to seat a large group. Okay, no problem. about 25 minutes later after they sat 2 large groups, they came and sat us our group of 4 with 2 groups of 2. (one of those groups of 2 was apparently a VIP of the manager as they received a small appetizer and they also received a shot each. which is fine. That did not bother me until) It was a while until the waitress came and took our drink order, and then she finally came back with our drinks. she then asked if we were ready to place our order and we stated yes.. we did not need any more time. So after placing our order, we got our soup and then we got our salads. then we waited and we waited. and should i say we waited.. no one came over and advised us what was going on, why we were waiting for so long.. not like this was a new experience with this type of dining at the other similar place we would have been catching the shrimp by this time. and we still continue to wait. then we stated that we would be packing up our left overs by this time.. still waiting and we had no chef yet. we had been there for over an hour, this was for my son in laws birthday, and needless to say he was not having a good time. He went to get the car and we asked for the bill. The waitress stated that she was sorry for the wait that she just spoke with the manager and was advised to comp the table some appetizers. I advised her that unfortunately it was too little too late and they should have been at our table way before this to explain the situation. perhaps it would have been acceptable. Unfortunately, due to this we will not be giving this establishment another chance to redeem themselves. which is too bad. Now I know i did not spend any money as they did not make us pay for the drinks that we had. nor the salad or soup. but if we would have stayed it would have been well over $100

Always a wonderful time coming out - usually for a celebration! It can be fun also to share a table with strangers if you’re in a smaller group, if you’re into that sort of thing. Most recently we went for a birthday/anniversary, party of two on a busy Saturday. Told us it would be a 30 minute and put us in the bar area with neat lantern lighting - what felt like minutes later they already had a table for us! I wish I remembered our chefs name - he had a sign on his cart that said “warning: my humor may offend you”, well we loved his dry and fun sense of humor!! And I cannot say enough good things about our server Viera, super attentive, sweet and lovely lady.

Google
Great place to celebrate a birthday or pretty much anything! Besides tasty food you are also getting a cooking lesson and entertainment. Our chef Rick was not only a good cook but pretty funny. Who could ask for more?!?!

Google
We had reservations for 7pm on a Thursday night. We got seated shortly after 7 and waited a lil bit for the waitress. Maybe about 10 minutes. She was very friendly and brought our drink orders promptly! we did wait about 20ish minutes for our appetizer. They were out of CALAMARI, so we got CRAB RANGOONS, which were delish! We then go our soups and about 15or so min later got our salads. ALSO very good, both the soup and salad! recommend mixing the carrot and ginger salad dressing together! :) the chef was running behind, so the manager came over to apologize, and stated she would do a discount on all our tabs. That wa svery kind of her. I think it was close to 7:45ish when the chef came over, he was very friiendly and entertaining! It was my birthday so he sang to me, as well as the WHOLE GONG BIRTHDAY EXPERIENCE :) overall, it was great and we will be back!!! kind of a long wait, but they were very apologetic and the food was so YUMMY!!

Google
Tried this place for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was nice, the food was AMAZING and the servers were attentive and friendly. We ordered the Naughty Geisha and a beer; the firecracker shrimp as an appetizer. fried rice with steak and shrimp as our entree. EVERYTHING was AMAZING!!!!!!!! I’ll definitely be back and I’d recommend this place to anyone who loves a Hibachi restaurant. The only thing that I saw that was disappointing was the condition of the bathroom. The ladies room was nasty, funky and in need of a remodel/upgrade. Other than that it was a great experience.

MarkJenn P.

Google
The food and chefs were amazing. The server - maybe her first week- but found out all the drinks we ordered just some beers and milk for the kids they were out of. But she came three different times to tell us. I would still go back as I don’t think all the servers were new or disorganized. We had fun!

Preston G.

Google
Food was eh in my opinion, but the staff were great. They were slightly disorganized, but it wasn’t a big deal. The chef was great and the waiter even told us that a kids meal was on the house because they forgot to put it on the bill.

Yelp
Unfortunately it was probably the worst hibachi I've ever had. The protein was questionable and the variety of vegetables was minimal compared to others.

Fair Review R.

Yelp
Price Points are good, usually a second meal guaranteed. Service attitude is very positive The cooking show is entertaining and very kid friendly Adult drinks are very acceptable Bathrooms are clean We never have enough to fill the entire table, but everyone are all visiting before the end of the meal We visit at least 3 times a year

Yelp
Great place gone bad, food was okay portions are way less than use to be, had a boring cook his heart wasn't in it, waited for an hour and half to get started, before hand the bar didn't even bring us our drinks like they used to and I could understand that if they were super busy but they weren't. I mean I would never go back again.. We used to love this place and the overall experience this time around was below decent.. for a quarter of the cost I'll just throw some steaks on the grill at home next birthday.

Yelp
This was the most distasteful experience I have had in a very long time. Me and my friends came to eat out as we usually do from here, we usually put something down for a tip but this time we didn't because we are college students so money is tight but we always pay our full bill and spend our money there often.... We didn't put anything in the tip spot because if we usually don't they don't charge the card but this time they took it upon their selves to charge our cards a $12 tip, mind you only 2 out of 3 cards were charged. When we called we were told we would get a call back and didn't receive one so we called and then we were greeted with the most unhelpful staff ever the person on the phone made remarks saying "your server is a college student also putting no tip was not okay" also saying " damn it" and lying saying the manager wasn't there. Customers don't matter to them. As someone who eats here often I'll never eat here again. Very very disappointed ! Do not go here they will steal your money.

Yelp
The signature cocktails at the bar are excellent! I can go back at least once a week and just have a drink at the bar. The food was very subpar. To be frank, I didn't like it at all. No flavor and the chef burnt the egg and recognized it but felt if he chopped it up small enough and mixed it in with the rice, it'll be OK. It wasn't.

Yelp
My family and I visited Genji this past weekend for dinner to celebrate my birthday and we enjoyed our experience here. I made the reservation a few days before, and would definitely suggest making one to ensure seating. The space is very large but it seems that they do book up pretty fast. Service 5/5: I thought that service was great. Our server took our order and brought our soup and salad (included in the Hibachi dinner) out to us in a very timely manner. Afterwords, the chef came out and prepared our meal in front of us. I feel like he was less enthusiastic and engaging compared to what I have previously experienced, but we still got the onion tower fire and catch shrimp in mouth experience, which is fun especially for my family who had never tried anything like this before. Food 4/5: I got the NY strip steak with noodles and my family got the Atlantic salmon and the teriyaki chicken with fried rice. Overall, I thought that the food was a bit too salty, including the noodles, the vegetables, and the fried rice. Additionally, I asked for my steak medium rare but when I got it, the meat tasted cold on the inside still. I did try the fried rice and thought that that was delicious and chicken teriyaki was very good. The overall portions were also smaller than I had expected. They did bring out a little fruit platter after dinner for my birthday, which was very nice.

Yelp
We came here for my friends birthday. The drinks were good, the chef was hilarious and very entertaining, our waitress was great too! I definitely recommend. I got the salmon and steak, and we also got crab Rangoon. A variety of cocktails, but truly everything was very tasty, I'm sure we'll be back.

Yelp
This is such a fun experience where they cook everything right in front of you throw samples into your mouth, have amazing drinks, and tons of food options. It is on the pricier side, but it's so worth it. The staff is always very friendly and makes it a fun experience. Fun atmosphere!! They even have a nice little bar. You can get drinks at while you're waiting for your table.

Richard H.

Yelp
We ate there tonight, my Sesame Chicken was not fully cooked. The chef took my plate away even though I was stilll eating my rice and vegetables. A few minutes later he reappeared with raw chicken and rice to start all over. Everyone was finished eating and expected me to sit there while he started all over again. I'm out. Won't go back.

Yelp
OMG. I went to Genji last night for the first time and I am absolutely blown away! We have never had hibachi before so this was a first for us and every item we had was beyond delicious! The fried rice was to die for and the filet was melt in your mouth like butter--some of the best filet I've had! Our chef was so fun and entertaining--he definitely made our experience that much better! We were celebrating two birthdays which was fun with the parasol and gong along with the happy birthday song. I already am anxiously waiting for our next visit to Genji & going to be enjoying my leftovers today!

Yelp
Walked in and was told they only take reservations. There was 20 tables freely open. Called to place a reservation and was told they were booked. This is my lowest rating I've given a restaurant
google avatar

Valerie G.

Yelp
Typical hibachi, nothing special. They only do hibachi, and there is not an option for just a restaurant setting. There is not a good parking lot, and the inside as a weird feel. The entrance and everything is accessible, but there is not a good accessible seating option. Each table has about 6 to 8 chairs and the setting inside usually gets pretty loud. I would not recommend it for the food, the prices were too high, and it is not a romantic or intimate place to be. The chefs were average, truly nothing special.

Lionel R.

Yelp
Waitress constantly was pressing to take an order on an evening when less than a fourth of the tables were occupied. We tried to slow her down; however she kept hurrying us up. The chef was mediocre and also in a big hurry. We've been celebrating birthdays there for 20 years though probably elsewhere in the future. Genji used to take a birthday picture. Reason not doing this is their camera broke over a year ago!! Really? Food quality was par with other years though the portions are smaller. Another shrinkflation experience.
google avatar

Sheri M.

Yelp
This is our extended family's favorite birthday dinner meet up- usually two full tables deep. The reservation is honored- our whole party knows to get there early for timely seating. Even at two tables, we still feel connected. The chefs are entertaining and the food is on point. I also like the cocktail list- great drinks.
google avatar

Sandi C.

Yelp
Wonderful place for special celebrations. Expensive!! Food for everyone is prepared on same hot table. Show is fun but if you are surrounded by family it is much more fun than sharing the large u shaped table! Let them know food allergies and they will clean grill and accommodate as much as possible. VERY SALTY! You can request less soy sauce!
google avatar

Yelp
The Atmosphere is excellent as is the food It was the first time I have been here. We went as a multigenerational family. It was entertaining to the adults and the children. Our food was prepared in front of us. Very tasty

Yelp
Excellent food. Great staff. Very cool place. Have had a handful of birthday get togethers here and they've been wonderful.

Yelp
the cook didn't interact with group very well food was over salted was disappointed with the night

Yelp
We used to LOVE this restaurant. It has gone downhill considerably. We ate there a few nights ago with a party of 5 adults ands 1 toddler. The pacing of food arrival was really off. First arrived the chicken; it was a bit overcooked and dry, but edible. After some of us were done with the chicken came the 3 sauces!! Then came the vegetables, and a bit later the rice. Shrimp and steak came last. It would have been nice to have the sauces before any food arrived...especially for the person that only ordered chicken!! The vegetables are usually my favorite part. They have cut way back on the variety of vegetables. Most of them were onions!! They no longer give a birthday credit, even though it still says online they give $15 for a party of 4 or more if a birthday is being celebrated. We were out for my dad's 78th birthday. Even though our bill was almost $200, no piece of cake or anything was offered as complimentary. They did offer a small plate of maybe pineapple for an extra charge..another lady in our table grouping purchased one. We were glad we did not. For the amount of food given, the prices have gotten way too high. Especially those that ordered just the chicken; they received a very small amount of meat. We had to ask for more water and drink refills and then it took forever; several of our water glasses were empty for quite a while; the waitress never noticed. The best part of the meal was the friendly and funny chef. We were disappointed with the cost, the service, and some of the food. We will find another restaurant to celebrate family birthdays.

Yelp
Went to Genji last night for wife's b day dinner with friends. Have to say after all these years it's still pretty damn good. We were greeted nicely when we came in. We had a reservation for 8 people at 6 pm. The place was packed but we were seated promptly. Our chef was pretty funny. Probably kinda new as he messed up on his tricks a few times but that made it funny. My scallops were cooked absolutely perfect!!! My salmon was also very good. All Japanese steak houses always seem to over cook shrimp though. Lol. The mustard sauce, ginger sauce and yum yum sauce are all delicious!!! I know they are busy and have to turn tables but the waiters need to slow down just a tad. They bring you the bill the second the chef leaves. Other than that is was a good experience... Genji is located on the southwest side of 144th and center.

Yelp
Place is awesome! If you arrive with a wait time it's really no issue as they have a large waiting area where you can order drinks and have a seat to wait! Once we were seated we had salads and drinks very quickly! Love love love the chefs!!!! They are hilarious! The jokes are funny and well delivered. We loved how they interacted with the group and talked to all of us. The food was so good! Shrimp throwing at the end is fun! We were entertained thru the entire experience. Had a blast! This is definitely a great spot for a large group or family!
google avatar

Yelp
This wàs my first visit to this Hibachi grill. I read up on Yelp reviews and it was mixed. U was concerned about complaints of wait times and the criticism expressed by Yelpers. Upon arrival, we were asked to sit and wait in the bar lounge. Within ten minutes, the greeter came over and apologized for the wait and offered to bring us complimentary appetizers which we accepted. Within 10 more minutes, we were seated in a cramped middle area where the next group was very clear we to us. The soup and salad was not as good as Kobe but the meat flavor was. Service started a bit slow but greatly improved once the grill chef showed up. The ambiance is a bit better at Kobe but the entree is tastier at Genji. Overall, it was a good experience.
google avatar

José A.

Yelp
Very similar to a hibachi place back in FL, and just as wonderful... I never thought I would find another hibachi restaurant that would rival Makotos, but Genji certainly does. They cook at the table, entertain, and serve the food with flair and a smile. I liked the way they cooked the fried rice at the table, served it in bowls, and their selection of sauces. All very unique. The food was all fresh and well made. From the salads to the shrimp, steak, scallops, and chicken - no complaints. This is a great place and will be glad to goo again on our return visit to the area.

Yelp
I had never been to a teppanyaki restaurant before our visit to Genji the other weekend, it was really a lot of fun, and the food was quite good. I didn't realize how popular Genji was, and I would highly recommend a reservation, but we walked in on a Saturday night and after a 20 minute wait at the bar we were seated. The drinks at the bar were really good by the way, I reccomend a mangorita. When we were seated it was at a 10 person table where everyone faces the grill, service was quick, and everyone gets a salad with their meal before the chef comes out to cook and do the show at the grill. The food was really good and its fun to interact with the chef and watch your food being made. We ordered combos with shrimp and NY strip, you also get fried rice and veggies, everything was very tasty. It seemed to be a really popular place for birthday parties and other celebrations. You get a good amount of food for the money, overall a very good experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Yum Yum sauce is the bomb. The workers do a great show and gets the tables excited with their tricks and jokes. I take my family here for celebrations all the time, RSVP early so you are ensured a spot. You do sit with random people unless you have like 12 family members attending and takes up all the seats. But if its small, you will most likely sit with other randoms, which isn't bad it makes it fun to meet new people if you're into that. I would highly suggest taking family out here as it is kid friendly, I love that they do the shrimp throws for everyone at the table, it was fun. The food was delicious comes out with soup, salad, rice/noodles, vegetables and main course. Seems to ALWAYS be packed so you know it is good. the food came out perfectly timed as always. The steak here is decent, the chicken is pretty good, they also have Kids menu (but the kids get everything like the adults) so still a lot of food!
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Very forgettable. Chef seemed to just be going through the motions. Have been to several other Japanese steakhouses with much better quality food as well.
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. My food was a bit salty last time I was in but overall my experience here was really a great one!!
google avatar

Yelp
If you enjoy loud country western music with your not inexpensive Japanese dinner, you will enjoy this restaurant.

Mallory D.

Yelp
Our meal was excellent. Chef Alex not only made delicious food, but was entertaining and friendly while cooking for us. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
The server we had was not good at all. He forgot both of our entrees and had to be reminded. Forgot our drinks on multiple occasions, put my meal into the chef incorrectly. The chef said he would fix it, but didn't and to top it all off in one of the chefs tricks he hit my son in the face with his spatula. He said he would comp my kids meal, but alas that didn't happen. Won't be back.

Anthony K.

Yelp
We'll to start off we were greeted at the door by a nice woman . Only took about 5 mins to be seated . Got there at 6:20 resv for 6:30 . Once we were seated the waiter told us about the restaurant and how everything works . Preceded to take our drink orders , I tried a Godzilla which was super flame . And also a muai tai . Also good too . After that our chef don came to the table and he was a great time . Cooked up all our food very well. Got my steak medium well and it was perfect . He also threw us shrimp and just told us some good stories . Loved the vibe overall would give the food 5 stars . Portions this night was around 4 a 4 but with the stellar customer service and chef I think it was worth 5 stars .

Michael D.

Yelp
Had a great time this evening. The food was great, & cooked just the way we like it. The show Austin put on was lots of fun and entertaining. Our waitress was right there when we needed something (I'm sorry, neither my wife or I caught her name). Will definitely go back!

Nan B.

Yelp
Walked in and walked out. Ambiance was dark and dirty feeling. Took forever for anyone to come to the hostess stand. Said the wait was 30 mins. We left.

Yelp
UPDATE: 1/10/22: After this above mentioned experience, I knew I had zero desire to go back to Genji. A friend of mine asked me to go to dinner and mentioned Genji. I explained that I had no intentions to go back to Genji but that I would make this exception. We went there on 1/3/22. I checked in, sat down, and we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Once everyone had arrived, the owner/manager came over to our table and said that he didn't feel comfortable with me being in the restaurant because of the review I had left over a year ago. He also mentioned that his staff was uncomfortable at which time my son looked around and the staff looked so confused, they had no idea what was going on. I replied to the owner a simple "OK". He kept talking in circles and repeating himself. I kept saying "OK". It was obvious that he wanted more of a reaction from me in response to his "kicking me out of" his restaurant. I finally said more than OK. I said, "I understand, I am fine with leaving, I did write the review, and that I did not want to eat there, that I was only there because that is where my friend chose." The seven of us left and we went to KOBE and had the best time! Between the negligence during the city mandatory mask mandate and my experience of his unprofessionalism last week, I am confident that my review a year ago and this update is needed. Thank you for teaching my son what not to do and how not to act as a business owner and for giving me the opportunity to show him how to react to confrontation. PREVIOUS REVIEW FROM 2020: Owner does not wear a mask and does not enforce the mask mandate on his employees. After picking up my take out order, I called to address my concerns and apparently he has a deviated septum (no excuse for not wearing a mask) and he lets his employees decide if they want to wear a mask or not. We used to be regulars here but not anymore. Kobe and Osaka can have our business.

Yelp
First timer here. We had a blast. Had a 3 year old and 1 year old with us (which is a tad risky) but the hibachi chef catered to them and we had fun! The food is amazing. The veggies and fried rice was so flavorful. You get a ton! You get a shrimp appetizer, and I ordered the NY strip. Very tender. It's ALOT of food. All that is on top of the miso soup and salad that comes out first. The other group at our table was basically drinking and swooning over the "yum yum sauce". I didn't think it was that amazing, but i loved the ginger sauce and the spicy mustard was on point. I would definitely suggest getting a reservation, it was crazy in there. The general manager was super sweet and while we were waiting brought my kiddos two small smoothies with whip cream while they waited. Now that's service. We will be back!! Thanks for a fun night Pro tip: don't order the shrimp as part of your entree because you get a shrimp appetizer, so pick something else!!!

Yelp
We met friends at Genji to celebrate tonight. The reservation was at 7. We didn't get seated til around 730. I had chicken and salmon. My wife had chicken. My son had chicken and shrimp. The food was over cooked. The cook dumped large quantities of soy sauce on everything. It was his last party of the night. He may have been tired. He was not talkative and the presentation was really lame. We told the boys that you go there for the show not the food. The cost was 30 per person including tip. We will not go back.

Yelp
food was trash this the worst spot in japanese steakhouse in town omaha hands down service trash and had to acknowledge just to get seated and too salted and pepper that you could eat it at all and need better customer service

Yelp
Was there Friday night for a birthday. 1st i was promised soup, waiter said he'd be right back because he didn't bring enough to the table- i didn't get the soup until i paid my bill after begging 2 waitstaff, a cook, and a hostess for the soup throughout the meal. Ordered the teriyaki chicken with steamed rice, and got a pile of onions instead of broccoli, zucchini, and onions served to the rest of the table, then had to beg for my steamed rice which had been promised to be on its way 3 different times before i actually got it. My chicken was cold before the rice was served to me and most of my table was finished with their meals. I asked for dips offered by the chef then didn't actually get any and had to borrow from 3 seats away- nothing more disgusting than sharing a dip because the restaurant ran out of dip containers and the chef refused to just pour the dip on to my plate which would have been far more sanitary. And to add insult to injury after the bad dinning experience i just over paid for the waiter actually lost my debit card at the bar and instead of immediately retrieving it he actually started removing plates he hadn't cared about the last 3 trips to the table. At least when Kobe's overcharges they give you what you order before you're done and ready to walk out and return forms of payment expediently and efficiently. 1st time here and will never return.

Yelp
Parents and sister in law were in town, was a first for all of us at this specific location, table host J.J did a phenomenal job along with the cook who served our meals! Definitely will go back for a family outing!

Yelp
Reservations only now? Definitely need to make that known on your site.... Disappointed.

Yelp
Very good food at a reasonable price. The chefs are also very entertaining. Always a good place to go for a celebration.

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was a kid. Always a fun environment for friends and family. I recently returned with a group of girlfriends for a birthday celebration. I was happy to find they added tofu and portabella mushroom to the hibachi dinner options, which so great for a vegetarian like me who normally just loads up on veggies at hibachi! On top of just providing the options, they were AMAZING! Like I ate my leftovers the next morning for breakfast amazing. The tofu was nice and crispy from the hot grill table. Will definitely be dragging anyone I can back there soon.

Yelp
Oh wow what a fun, delicious place! Went for first time for my birthday instead of other restaurant and was pretty glad I did. I'm sure I would have had a fabulous time if it weren't for our chef who, oddly, was the only human working not showing his face. I've always had a hard time talking to people with their hands over their mouths ESPECIALLY when other things are going on. However, I was not rude to him at all. Yet somehow I upset him by saying I couldn't understand him in the mask. It really threw me for a loop and I had forgotten what I ordered. He ran off not to be seen for well over 5 minutes. I felt bad for the rest of the table because he didn't double check with them on what they ordered and sure enough, messed up another person's order. I really wish this place was 100% face friendly however, I do understand not telling people how to live their lives. But I'm telling you, if it wasn't for that, I'm sure our whole table would have had a much better time. Because he wasn't showing his face, probably because he couldn't breathe, he also didn't talk to us. Husband noticed all the other tables had the chef talking to the crowd and entertaining them. Also, our chef screwed up on the two "exciting" things he did. It wasn't too upsetting other than it was my daughter's first time at a restaurant like this and I was hoping she'd get more of the *show* and excitement. But instead, she hated it. (Not entirely their fault. She had a long day at school and was tired...) I'm sure she could have had at least one smile if we had a chef who was entertaining and, also, would have been helpful to know what she could or couldn't have. She's allergic to gluten (which we told them) and had a reaction to the meat which I'm curious if it had a gluten sauce so she literally only got to eat rice. Anyway, long story to say we still enjoyed. We loved the American flags, katana sword, other decorations, and atmosphere. We liked the rest of the staff including our waitress, Cassie.

Yelp
I really can't say enough good about this place. Took my MIL to try it while she was in town visiting and we both hands-down agree that this was the best Hibachi food/experience we have ever had. I got the chicken and steak with fried rice combo and it was excellent. The yum-yum sauce was delicious. We also shared a sampler (pot stickers, egg rolls, etc.) and it was top notch. I forgot to catch the chef's name, but his personality and talent really made the experience fun over all. I would highly suggest Genji to anyone! PS - I suggest calling to make a reservation beforehand! :)

Yelp
Great place to go either as a couple or a group. Fun experience! Maybe the best Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse in Omaha?! Remember to get a reservation, this place is normally packed. Our chef was very fun and tentative. Our server was quick in refilling the water and took empty dishes away from us. Our foods are delicious. Came here a couple time and tried different things on the menu: the combination is a great choice to choice 2 proteins or even 3, steak is normally to go-to one, portabella menu is surprisingly very delicious. The meal came with hot soup, salad (ginger dressing is a bomb), shrimp appetizer, stir-fry veggies, and your entrees with choice of rice or noodles. Note: always get FRIED rice. Yum Yum sauce is always my favorite thing about the meal. The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get. Honestly, there is nothing to complaint about this place.

Yelp
Last night at Genji (Omaha) I experienced the most rude manager of a restaurant that I've ever encountered. We had a group of 10 people, our reservation was for 7:00pm, we all arrived promptly & were seated about 10 minutes later. Our server came out to take our drink order, one person asked for a margarita and was told they didn't have the "ingredients". Then another person asked for Pearl Saki (it's on their drink menu) but was told they were out. That's where it started... Our salads were brought out all with the ginger dressing, I asked if I could have the carrot dressing (on their menu) and was told they were out. Then we waited, and waited. Our chef finally came out after 8:00pm, the food was really good, the chef was fun, that where the good review ends. Several people in our group had iced tea, and we all had water. We couldn't get anyone to give us refills, were told several times that they would get it, then we were forgotten. Then 5 minutes after the chef finished cooking our server (who couldn't be bothered to refill tea or water glasses) brought out styrofoam boxes for everyone, whether you asked for it or not, and the check. We were still eating. And we still couldn't get water. Then the manager, Jeremy Johnson, came out at 9:00pm and informed us that people were waiting for our table and could we please go. There was two people in our group who still eating! When I talked to him about it his response was "When the chef wraps up you're pretty much done. That's when your time is up". So now Genji is a to go restaurant. Here's your food, get out. Jeremy Johnson was arrogant & rude, he did not apologize for not even noticing that two of his patrons were still eating when he asked them to leave. He just made excuses and tried to justify his actions. I'm disappointed because I have always enjoyed the experience and the food at Genji, but I don't think I'll ever go back after being treated with such rudeness by the person listed as the manager/owner.

Yelp
Omg I am never disappointed when I come to this place. The food is great. The drinks are on point and of course the staff is nice and funny. If you have never had the experience I must say your missing out my friend. Take some people and go enjoy the place.

Yelp
Walked 1.7 miles for hibachi and they only take reservations. Couldn't let me get a table and the guy was a bit of a jerk
