Google
Food was by far amazing and yummy at the same time. Price is reasonable. Atmosphere at the bar has some great cushy seats.

Google
The potatoes were really cool textured, nice crisp and cube shape is interesting. The flavor was great, can never go wrong with the mayo and eel sauce and fish flakes. The volcano roll was a great portion size, and lots of good scallop meat, would recommend

Google
I am by no means a sushi connoisseur, but the vegetarian options are solid, filling, and delicious. A reliable favorite! I have gotten take out and eaten in many times, always excellent.

Google
Clean restaurant & good service. Food are not bad but also not so impressive. I ordered the seafood deluxe & grilled seafood mixed with mushrooms and mayonnaise, they were almost the same thing which I wish the server would have told me. Overall an average Japanese Sushi restaurant.

Google
Great food and drinks. Prices were competitive (still a bit pricey as it is in Somerville). The place was a bit small and the tables were close together but I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it.

Google
Came here for dinner because Sugidama Soba & Izakaya was closed and let me tell you, it is very mediocre. The sushi came out so fast after we ordered that it couldn’t have been made fresh, and it was kind of lukewarm. The shrimp tempura had a very weird flavor and the rice was kind of lumpy and hard. It was good enough overall but not for the prices they charge. Would never come back here or recommend it.

Google
My friend and I both ate tempura which made us ill, called the next day and the restaurant told us to go to the hospital and collect evidence rather than say they would actually do anything or even check their shrimp / batter. Service/atmosphere was fine, but would avoid to prevent food poisoning.

Ordered something small and was told to wait for 15min. We decided to walk around instead of waiting there (we never said it’s for takeout though). When we came back, we wanted to sit at the table outside but they already packed our food and said that was for dine-in only. The restaurant was pretty empty that time, but we ended up finding somewhere else to eat. Rolls were somewhat generic compared to normal sushi buffet.

Yelp
Really yummy comforting food. Got the seafood tempura roll, yaki udon, and chicken katsu curry. Everything was really tasty and the portion size was good. Tons of veggies in the curry which I liked. Other katsu curries are just the sauce. The veggies were still crunchy but completely cooked which was nice to add a texture contrast. The yaki udon was my favorite. And the seafood tempura roll was delicious and huge. Would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
Decent spot for sushi and food. They play jazzy music and the decor is classy. Came for lunch and it wasn't too busy. Service was fast and she occasionally checked on us. We ordered: L - spicy yaki udon: my friend got this and said it was pretty good but could've been a bit spicier. L - salmon teriyaki: the salmon was cooked to perfection and it was quite delicious! Wish there were a bit more veggies but I really enjoyed it. The portion was perfect. Caterpillar maki: tasted as it should! Overall 4/5! It was good and I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
Food was very average at best, and it was dark. Went around dinner time and was eager to eat. Food was okay, got edamame and seaweed salad that were pretty standard. The chirashi had some clean tasting fish and some fishy ones. Also got the tri torched roll and it looked promising, except it was sitting on the sushi bar for 15 minutes before being served. Service was okay at best, little timid and didn't really come by and check up.

Yelp
Dining method: Delivery (DoorDash) Speed: Right on time, as predicted by the app! Items ordered: miso soup, spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll, avocado roll, veggie combo, mochi The short answer: delicious sushi at a great price. For sushi, reliability and quality is key, and Genki Ya has it. The long answer: The miso soup was delicious, with tiny mushrooms, seaweed, and tofu. Two of us were able to split the small size. The sushi was fresh, with ginger and wasabi. This was my first time trying raw salmon (normally plant-based) and it was pretty good, not fishy at all! Overall, between the three of us, this was an abundance of food, and we topped off the meal with mochi. One order came with a matcha/green tea and one caramel-esque flavor. Perfect end of meal!

Yelp
I had three different types of rolls for takeout. I wanted to venture out and see what "vegetable" sushi would taste like, and tried the vegetable dragon and smooth roll. The vegetable dragon roll is covered in avocado, with sweet potato, mushroom and banana. This was my favorite roll- its light and refreshing. The smooth roll consisted of sweet potato, avocado and cream cheese. Very similar but not as good as the dragon roll. The cream cheese didn't elevate it as much as I expected. As for typical sushi - the spicy seafood roll hits the spot. Its grilled salmon, crab, avocado and cucumber. I haven't tried other sushi places around Davis yet but Genki Ya set a pretty good bar.

Yelp
Cute ambiance, nice quality sushi, kind staff Wish it were a little more lively but fantastic for takeout !

Yelp
Food: 9/10 -- the sushi was delicious, udon noodles dish was very good and the veggie gyoza was yummy although not my favorite I've had Drinks: 7/10 -- love they lychee martini but drink menu was limited, my group was missing more beer and mix drink options Service: 2/10 -- first of all, the restaurant wasn't busy at all so there is no reason for the poor service we received. Our waiter was visibly grumpy and rude. When we asked a couple of simple questions he snapped at us. When he delivered our drinks he spilled half my martini and didn't even apologize. The entire time he seemed extremely put out and frustrated that we were there and never once came to check on us once we received our food (I had wanted to put another drink order in since mine was half empty when I got it but the opportunity never came) All in all the food was good but service made the experience significantly less pleasant. Probably would not go back here to eat unless I got take out....

Marvin B.

Yelp
I came to Genki Ya on a Tuesday evening, and they were really fast with everything! I was seated immediately and after ordering my food and then using the bathroom, my food was already ready in a couple of minutes! I love how they had a good selection of vegetarian and vegan sushi rolls, which can be hard to find in the Boston area. I ordered the Vegetable Dragon Roll. I really liked the crunch of the sweet potato tempura. The banana sounds weird at first, but it actually added a really interesting flavor that I've never had before in a sushi roll. My friend ordered the piña colada, which I tried, but I didn't want to drink on a work night, so I opted for the virgin pina colada, which I thought was so good that I ordered another. I tend to not like coconut, but their virgin piña colada was so good! The manager and waiter were super friendly, nice, and welcoming, too! I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I moved to Boston from San Francisco and this is still the only sushi restaurant I take people who visit! The fish is fresh, the rolls are delicious and good sized portions compared to other places (although I have noticed their takeout portions are a bit smaller than ordering in person). Their lychee martinis are fabulous. My go-to is the rainbow roll, soooo good! The staff are very friendly and the space is clean and open. It continues to be my go-to and never disappoints!

Sarah C.

Yelp
You will get great service after ignoring the hostess. When we walked in, she asked "what do you want" ...ummm... maybe " to eat?" The outdoor area is cool. Tables are spaced out with a few hand sanitizer pumps nearby. No paper menu, there's a QR code you can scan for it. We got the volcano roll and tripled torch maki. They were both amazing! The volcano roll surprised me the most - the entree was too pretty to consume as the chef made it like a volcano shape. Shittake mushroom were blended nicely with the succulent scallops and shredded imitation crab sticks. Inside you will the tempura shrimp maki roll. Volcano roll can feed two people. Tripled torched roll was slightly too torched for my husband (he likes sashimi) but I loved them. They were warm on the outside and cool inside. Nice! Funny waitress served us and we enjoyed our first dinner outdoor during Covid. Dine with local restaurants if you can.....

Yelp
I had the Don Rainbow (26.35$) as takeout, which came with a mediocre miso soup. The salmon was quite good, but some of the other fish (especially the tuna) was a little, well, fishy. The cuts were large, which made for a lovely presentation, but an annoying eating process. I guess the amount of fish is decent (~12 slices), but I felt the price was a tad high. Other than the fish, there was some roe, a quarter avocado, and the rice. The ratio of rice was off, with too much unseasoned rice to fish. Overall, I'd try something else if I wanted to give them another chance.

Cristina R.

Yelp
Stellar sushi! There are many options, so you're bound to find something you like. Plus the menu has PICTURES for easier ordering. Go for the multigrain rice for a healthier (and prettier) option which adds some interesting textures. This and brown rice are available for any roll at an extra cost. If you can make it for lunch (Mon-Fri from 11-3), they have some great specials which include soup/salad! There are a variety of lunch specials like sushi, sashimi, udon, teriaki, or a selection of maki. I had the Fashion Role (eel, avocado, cream cheese) and the Healthy Ichiban Roll (salmon, tuna, cream cheese, avocado) with multigrain rice. So delicious and so filling! The fish is tender and fresh. And the plates come with flowers on them, which is a nice touch. Genki YA'll want to come here again!

Yelp
I've been a fan of Genki Ya at Fresh Pond for years, along with Boston's location. However this location wasn't quite up to par. The service is great though, the wait staff were kind and attentive. The decor was nice but I was met with this bad smell of mold or mildew in the air. I hope they can find the source and fix that. The quality of fish was past the freshness time slot, which I know can be tricky and expensive. The ratio of ingredients were off. The variation in sizes was off putting, making for a bit of sloppy presentation. This is a competitive spot to be in being Davis Square, and I hope they improve.

Michael R.

Yelp
Went for sushi and had a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Ordered a bunch of rolls and nigiri. The flavors, textures and temperatures were all spot on. Everything fresh and made to order. They don't skimp on the wasabi and ginger. Had a bowl of miso soup and it was delicious. Decent saki and mixed drinks selections. The restaurant is really nice, not to loud. They have these little rooms with decorative glass and heavy wood doors that you can eat in private. Will definitely go back. I understand Genki Ya has other locations. Will try those too. Prices very reasonable.

Yelp
i went here with a group of friends and we were treated so well even with 12 people. Every single order was correct and served with a smile. The food was absolutely stunning with generous portions and the prices for everything - most of us actually over ordered because we were not expecting such generous amounts for each of the rolls! Their rolls come with miso which is wonderful and unexpected. I split some shumai with a friend and you can chose between steamed or fried which is impressive - I love that I can get it steamed since most places just fry it and I prefer steamed. I wanted to try everything but was so full I could not even finish the rich salmon roll and hamachi roll I ordered - again, the rolls are pretty good sized so most of us over ordered. The restaurant is such a lovely venue and very spacious too.

Yelp
Had a group of 9 for dinner and the restaurant was a great host. Lots of saki bombs and the food was incredible. The only thing that he genki was missing was great tunes and a hip environment

Simona H.

Yelp
Yum yum yum yum ... yummy yummy sooo good! Perfect atmosphere ... food is fantastic .. service is great... I keep going back and I crave it all the time

Cherilyn N.

Yelp
Sushi is so fresh and good. Love how they have other locations with a late night one Sunrise roll is tasty

Daira R.

Yelp
Highly recommend Came in with some friends for some snacks and drinks. We got the scorpion bowl (the big one to share) as well as some different nibbles. We got the tuna special (sashimi) - everyone in my party raved about this. Said it melted in their mouths. Gyoza (steamed and fried) - delicious. I only had the steamed gyoza because I have a shellfish allergy and I wasn't sure if the fried gyoza would have come in contact with any fried shellfish. After we got the gyoza I let our server know about my allergy and she confirmed with the chef every item on the menu I could and couldn't have and offered to make recommendations. It was so sweet! As it was, I was happy with just the steamed gyoza. My group also got some shrimp - which they raved about - and the uni. The uni was hit or miss with my friends. Some loved it, some were less excited about it. Overall, had a great time and would return.

Yelp
Overpriced sushi with a horrendous wait. Breaking my Yelp hiatus of several years to write this review. The sushi was average at best; the pieces of fish inside their maki taste alright but are incredibly small. I ordered a salmon avocado roll which was mostly avocado with tiny pieces of salmon. I also ordered a caterpillar roll (pictured) which, while aesthetic, had the smallest pieces of eel I've ever seen in a piece of sushi. The real deal breaker on the sushi is the pricing: the salmon avocado roll was already over $7 and the specialty caterpillar roll was almost $12. Notably, the biggest problem here is the awful wait for food. The wait staff ignored us for the first 45 minutes while we were here, while others slowly trickled in. After almost an hour had passed, the wait staff took orders in the reverse order that people had arrived, leaving our table for last, although we were the first table seated. After taking our orders, we waited another 2 hours before the food finally came out. As mentioned above, the food is decent but overpriced and the portions in each piece of sushi are incredibly small. I'd highly recommend ordering takeout if you're ordering anything at all to avoid the wait and the subpar service. Dining in was a mistake.

Jessica T.

Yelp
I love their sushi!!! Service is quick and so many options on their menu. Ambiance is loud and fun if crowded

Katherine W.

Yelp
I've been here twice for sushi and it's tasted pretty good. Definitely overpriced compared to other sushi restaurants in Davis, but I admit the fish is fresh and always delicious. This review is more for Genki Ya's cocktails, though, which I loved. I ordered a lychee martini which was VERY strong. The price was reasonable and the taste was better compared to other lychee-infused cocktails that I've tried in Asian restaurants. My only complaint is that I did order some side dishes with the martini, and the waiter forgot to bring over an extra set of chopsticks and a plate. It took 10+ minutes to get someone's attention so that I could begin eating.

Evelyn T.

Yelp
Oooof let's say that I made a big mistake bringing my mom here. I'm very between 1-2 stars--in fact, I first pressed one. But I remember the service being great, so solely for the service, I'll give one star up. No complaints on the service. But the food...deserved a 1 for sure. I'm not from the area--my mom and I were visiting. However, I was in a huge mood for sushi, so I saw the reviews for this place and decided to support a new and budding sushi restaurant (it said it was new on Yelp). Unfortunately, it was just one of those risks you take as an avid foodie that did not go as desired. So the service was on point. There was nothing wrong with it at all; they were all very pleasant. The sushi however...I don't even want to call it sushi. We ordered: - Rich Salmon Roll - Luxury Roll - Shitake Kaiyaki - Tuna with Kimchi Although the overall presentation was beautiful, the sushi was way too big and with too much rice that you couldn't really taste the fish (which is the best part). Not to mention, the rice itself was NOT sushi rice. It was very thick and further masked the flavor of what sushi should taste like. Last, the fish was not cut right. Chewing it definitely made it more apparent that...this is not sushi I know of (stringy and weird texture). The Shitake Kaiyaki was very interesting, but not very good. The Tuna with Kimchi was also weird. The Kimchi overpowered the tuna too much, and overall it wasn't the best combination. We had planned to order a roll for my brother for him to snack on, but after tasting the food we abruptly changed our mind. We ended up stopping by another sushi place to grab a roll instead, and I was jealous to watch him eat it later. I'm not sure if we just came at the wrong day, after all, it was relatively empty. Looking at the other pictures on yelp, I wasn't sure if it was the same place, so I had to backtrack on my phone to make sure the menus were the same as the menu pictures I took for my brother when we were going to order for him (and it was). Perhaps it changed in 2 months...but 2 months ago the reviews were just as "amazing" when I looked through them, yet the real food was not.

Doğa T.

Yelp
Again, this Genki Ya was also not surprisinly perfect. Sushis were fresh and yummy. I would definetely recommend.

Alexandra G.

Yelp
The food was good, better than expected, but while I was sitting at the table a rodent ran out from under the bench that I was sitting at and scurried across the floor. I don't know if it was a mouse or a small rat, because it shocked me so much. I have never seen a rodent while eating at a restaurant before.

Megan P.

Yelp
Definitely like Genki Ya but it's just one of the sushi places in our rotation. Never eaten at this one in person, just takeout/delivery. As two vegetarians, there's some places that just don't have more than 1 or 2 options (if any). Genki Ya has a number, which is great, but they skew more sweet potato or banana than most which we only are in the mood for every once in a while. I've been trying the curries with last two orders. I tell myself they're vegetarian because they don't list meat/menu isn't super explicit about what's vegetarian or not, but I'm not sure they are :/ I enjoyed the special though! (The classic curry I got the time before was only ok, it had broccoli that was still partially frozen, which detracted from it.) Big plus imho is the cocktail menu. It's really nice to get delivery cocktails! And they have a really wide selection of tiki style drinks. Not as good as the Brookline or downtown locations (though I still ate fish when those were my local Genki Yas!) but still a nice option I enjoy. And hope to eat there in person sometime too, seems like a great bar to get a drink in person with a couple nice rolls or apps, they have such a cute buildout.

Mia P.

Yelp
I'm super happy to have finally found a sushi staple nearby where I live. I ordered the vege combo for $18.95, which is vegan, and comes with the vege dragon roll (sweet potato tempera, mushroom tempera, avocado, and banana, yes, banana), sweet potato tempera roll, and avo-cu (avocado cucumber roll. All three of the rolls were flavorful and well made. In the future, I would order the vege dragon roll without the banana, but it was an interesting culinary experience and not as dissonant as I expected. I've also had the veggie delight roll (sweet potato tempura, avocado, and fried bean curd, $9.95) and mushroom tempera roll ($8.25). I liked the veggie delight roll, but the mushroom tempera roll didn't have much flavor. That said, I'll be back to order the vege combo soon.

MJ H.

Yelp
I've been eating at Genki-ya for 9 years now... the location in Alewife was a frequent takeout spot for me. I love the multi-grain rice... it's so unique and tasty. Plus there's always different special treats hidden within. A black bean, a pumpkin seed- spin the wheel, take a bite and see what you get. The sushi is always fresh and the combinations are great. Once, we ordered about $200 worth of sushi platters for lunch at work and we ate every. single. last. piece. Yum.

Chirag M.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying the service at this place is fantastic. Our server Jose was simply amazing and gave us great recommendations. 5/5 for service! The Salmon sashimi here is probably the best I've ever had! Just melts in your mouth - Highly recommend! 5/5 for the salmon Double spicy tuna - this was delicious! 4/5 Torched salmon roll - this was average, the torched salon on top of the maki was great but the salmon mix inside the roll tasted bleh. 3/5 Overall great experience at Genki Ya - will definitely be back!

Jay S.

Yelp
If you are a fan of not great sushi that takes an hour plus - or if you enjoy watching the hostess speak / yell / insult the staff then this place is for you. Bad vibes. Weird angry management and lovely apologetic staff - but sadly the food is also not worth the wait. Avoid the yellowtail, avoid the spicy tuna. The gyoza might have been ok but cold? Very disappointing. I do not recommend.

Katherine O.

Yelp
Great sushi! Lots of options and high quality. I'm vegetarian and this is one of my favorite sushi spots. I've mostly gotten takeout from genki ya but I did eat in once and the service was good. The place is very clean and quiet, a nice escape from the busyness of Davis square.

Augusto T.

Yelp
I hope they can improve their service. More sushi restaurants at Davis Square is great. The renovated restaurant is surprisingly beautiful, modern, and classy. Unfortunately, my first impression wasn't entirely positive. There was no one to great diners at the entrance and even after I wandered myself in and sat myself at the bar, still no human contact. After several minutes, I finally got water brought to me, but no menu. When I got my food, I also had to ask for a sauce dish, as I didn't get one. These are of course minor nitpicks, but it does seem like they are either under staffed or the staff is under trained. The menu seems to be centered around rolls rather than fish, so I ordered two rolls. It took me quite a long time to choose my rolls, as they seemed either too similar too each other or really out there. I decided on the luxury roll and the crab tempura roll. They were fine. The rice wasn't perfect (being slightly on the mushy side) and the tempura roll wasn't the most crispy, but I still enjoyed my meal. As another nitpick, I found the very casual menus (bright colors, pictures of every dish, and laminated plastic) to be somewhat incongruous with the very fancy atmosphere. I just don't know for what type of occasion to recommend the restaurant. Overall, just OK.

Briana L.

Yelp
I come to Genki Ya pretty much every week to get lunch because they never failed me. The fish is always fresh! I usually get the lunch special that come with a salad and miso soup. I'm used to getting small rolls from sushi places, but they give BIG portions and pieces of fish! Prices are great for the quality of food that you get here. I honestly would come here everyday for lunch if I could. Definitely would recommend!

Ellen E.

Yelp
Wonderful selection of sushi. Casual atmosphere. Very accommodating and quick service. Very limited menu with cooked options.

Manan T.

Yelp
Don't order takeout or delivery from here! It took 2 hours for them to deliver, AND they weren't picking up their phone at all during that time (we tried calling them through both the phone number listed on their site and through their online ordering system on their site; they were completely unreachable). We literally didn't know if they were even working on our order and we had no way of finding out the status, or if they were even still open. For the record, we placed the order at 6:45 PM on a Friday and started trying to get in touch with them at 8:20 PM to figure out if/when our order was coming, so it was nowhere near closing time for them. We are within a mile of the restaurant. At first, their phone rang indefinitely with no one answering, but eventually it switched to telling us that the number has been turned off. We tried calling maybe 15 times over a half hour to no avail. Our order time estimate also never changed to indicate it was running late, or that there were any delays/problems whatsoever. Honestly, the fact that they were completely unreachable is unacceptable. A business needs a working phone at minimum, especially if their unable to deliver in anywhere close to a timely manner. If they had made it at all possible to get in touch with them to check the status of our delayed order, I'd have been okay with it being late. I really just wanted to know if I was getting the food I ordered. But the fact that we couldn't even know if our food was coming hours after we ordered made it so we didn't know whether we should give up and order from somewhere else. If you order from a place and then you find that their phone is shut off after more than an hour and a half of waiting, you start to wonder if they are even open or if your food is coming. We were in the process of giving up and ordering from somewhere else when they randomly showed up at 8:45 with our food. Only order from here if you have many hours to kill, don't want to know whether your food is coming, and don't expect to ever need to contact the restaurant about anything.

Yelp
New addition to Davis Square in the same spot where Diva Indian Bistro used to be. The interior has been completely gutted and re-designed. The layout is nice and, naturally, Japanese with elements of wood and stone. I had a lunch that ended up being $25 with tip (including hot sake). The fish seems fresh and the rolls were well done. The staff were prompt, friendly and professional. I definitely see myself having more lunches here! They're off to a great start!

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Order from here through Uber Eats a few days ago. The app said it was take around an hour. Okay no problem, everything looks fine in the app. About 45 minutes later I get a notification and the driver texted me to say that the restaurant had closed! Three drivers end up trying to pick it up and nothing. I eventually figure out how to cancel the order and Uber refunds me. So, today I try again. Same order, but this time I call to ask what time they close immediately after I make the order. They said 9:30, and halfway through my next sentence I get hung up on. I call back and explain to them what happened earlier in the week and will there be a mix up this time? They ask my name to look up my order and they say, "It's already done. Tell Uber to send the driver. We close at 9:30." Click. I'm flabbergasted, and I cancel my order again. If you take an order that's to be picked up but you can't guarantee you'll be open for the drive to pick it up then don't take the order!!

Joey D.

Yelp
This sushi is phenomenal, everyone working there was very kind, and the restaurant has a beautifully decorated dining room which makes it great for a date night or even if you just wanted to go with some friends. The layout can be slightly confusing at first to navigate through the restaurant (aka finding the bathroom) but nothing too terrible. Overall this place is amazing and I'll be back for sure! P.S. get the doomsday roll!!

Beth Y.

Yelp
My favorite sushi place around! Was so happy to see that they opened a spot here. Can't believe it's not more packed! The fish here is always very fresh and I'm consistently impressed with the amount of unique dishes on the menu. For instance, there's a new curry that I tried last week and it was delicious! I've never seen something like that served at a sushi restaurant before. FOOD The volcano roll is one of my must-haves. It contains a pile of spicy crab meat on top of some rolls - so yummy! I also enjoy the rainbow roll (it gives you an assortment of fish) and the Genki Ya roll (fried sushi with cooked salmon!), an interesting spin on sushi. AMBIENCE I love the modern design inside. There's some bar seating, high tables, booths, and even a separate function room if you want to host a gathering. MUST ORDER: volcano roll

Gabrielle K.

Yelp
This was the first restaurant that I ate at in over a year! They have both indoor and outdoor dining, and contact trace their customers. Staff was all wearing masks, and taking COVID safety precautions. I had low expectations, since sushi in the Cambridge area has always been mediocre/average, but their sushi lunch set was surprisingly good for the price point. Their unagidon was also decent. I would definitely go back for a casual lunch!

Alex A.

Yelp
Ordered a Sushi Dinner from this place via UberEats ($22.) It's advertised as an 18 piece meal, which it is but what they need to be more specific about is: indicating that it's 10 pieces of sushi and eight pieces of rolls, more specifically four pieces of spicy tuna and four pieces of California roll, so if you think about a full roll being six individual makis or in some instances eight pieces, this order does not come with a complete order of two rolls (which should be at least 12 pieces). The soup size is decent but let's be serious nobody really cares about the miso soup that comes free with these orders. The quality of the fish is not bad but nothing stood out about this meal.

Annie T.

Yelp
I'm a sad grad student and the only thing that makes me feel alive is their curry rice. thank you genki ya somerville for your curry rice its so good. I love you.

Yelp
Order was an hour late but the worst part is the yellowtail roll was half yellowtail and half white tuna (escolar) which I am not supposed to eat since it causes me digestion problems. Will not order again

Yelp
Genki Ya is the best for sushi, hands-down. This would probably be my third-favorite location, the Cambridge one is the tops, then Boston and then Somerville. The sushi here is great, they have lunch and dinner combos that come with miso soup and salad, and the menu certainly has something for everyone. The location can't be beat, and Davis could use some good sushi options! The restaurant itself is lovely, it took Diva's old spot and the decor doesn't disappoint. The only negatives are the wine pours, they're small. The service can also be slow depending on when you're there. It's also cold in there, not sure why but I'm guessing it has to do with the insulation (or lack thereof).

Yelp
Great atmosphere with plenty of options. Take out was easy and I will be back! Loved my order and everything looks good.

Yelp
Genki Ya in Somerville and in Cambridge (alewife) is one of my most frequently visited restaurants. This review will be for the location in Somerville which has some differences in the menu. For example, while the sushi/sashimi and maki menu are the same, the Somerville location has a curry menu. The cocktails and drinks are good- classics and a some new ones, and they are all worth trying. The best part however is the food. We had the samosas as a starter and the Tokyo dry curry followed by some rolls (spicy king crab tempura roll, salmon torch roll and an eel maki). The samosas were okay, not bad, but they tasted like a crab Rangoon with an avocado texture. The curry was very good- I loved it! The rolls were consistent and good (and I say this because I always get those three rolls regardless of what location I go to). Special shout out to the server today. She paid special attention, checked on us, asked if we had any feedback about the food, and had a very positive attitude. Totally recommend this place!

Yelp
Today's visit was great! I got the triple spicy roll combo - so good! Good service, proper protocols, great food as always!

Yelp
Did a take out. 1) Very average food 2) Front desk lady is not courteous at all; she needs some training in how to talk to customers. 3) I ordered online, it told me 20-30 mins to be ready. I reach the restaurant after 30 mins and ask for my food. The front desk lady takes my name down and tells me food should be out soon. It took me 30 more mins of waiting outside before the food was ready. Needless to say, I asked 3 times before and everytime she would tell me it's almost ready. I hate this attitude -- just be honest so I can cancel the order and go somewhere else.

Yelp
A great new restaurant in the area! Surprised that it's not more populated at night. The sushi is delicious and well made and the fish is fresh.
