My first visit at Gentil-H 2 years ago was amazing, this most recent time was absolutely terrible. I went for their Christmas dinner which was priced at 35,000yen per person. For this price, the experience was unacceptable.
Never in my 10 years dining at tasting menu restaurants at this level, have I ever experience such a chaotic, unpleasant and worst of all RUSHED dinner. From the moment we entered and left, we were rudely rushed.
- Before we were even seated, the manager RAN THROUGH the menu
- Throughout the meal we were repeatedly made to feel that we had to hurry.
- During courses, we were told we only had “10 minutes”
- Dishes were cleared while we were still eating
- The next course was announced before we had finished the previous course.
- The manager was visibly running around the restaurant, creating noise and commotion, dropping things, telling staff to hurry, and even dropped a fork onto my stomach due to how rushed he was.
- The atmosphere was very tense, chaotic, and made it impossible to enjoy the meal
- The food was mediocre, definitely not worth the price point.
- When we finished our meal, no one even acknowledged us or walked us out (very rare for fine dining restaurants)
- Even while briefly waiting inside the restaurant for our taxi, we were asked to hurry and questioned about when it would arrive.
I have dined at Gentil H before and had a wonderful experience, which is why this visit was especially disappointing. Overall, this was a stressful and unacceptable experience that does not reflect the standards we associate with Gentil H or the level of service we experienced on previous visits, especially at the price point and on a special occasion such as Christmas Eve.
I wrote a formal complain to the restaurant with no response.
