I don't vary my favorites at restaurants too much. Once I love something, I stick with it, seeking perfection, in this case just the right combination of taste and price (probably weighing more toward price). When you can get a meal for an amazing price AND it's good food, the rare confluence of culinary and economic excellence gives me in a state of pure bliss. I work this way with my standard 2 eggs, hash browns/home fries and toast/french toast weekend breakfast (often post-partying on the previous night). George's is my new #1 spot for this particular combo.
$3.99 gets you home fries with bell peppers and onions(!), four slices of sourdough toast with generous butter and the two eggs. And it was a huge portion of home fries. My partner ordered the veggie omelette (with broccoli and avocado!) for $5.99 with the home fries and toast and enjoyed it. I also noticed a breakfast burrito with avocado for $2.99 and they had an eclectic mix of Korean BBQ, Chinese food, Mexican food and American greasy-spoon style stuff.
I have to admit, I've lived in City Heights for 2 1/2 years and never gave George's a chance due to the dark exterior that prevents you from being able to see inside the restaurant from a car. Once inside though, it was bright and clean, the waitress was nice, and they were pumping out some smooth soft jazz. I like the breakfast combo at Margarita's in OB (includes tortilla chips and salsa!) and the one at the Antique Row Cafe in Normal Heights was a-ight but George's definitely has them beat on portion sizes and slightly on price. It's our new morning-after breakfast spot, especially since they started serving breakfast on Sundays now.
