George's Gyros

It's old school junk food and the price reflects the quality. Not to say it's bad, but you know no frills, straight up what it is. It was my first time eating there and I imagine if I try more stuff I'll find the thing I'll really like and can order every time. Interested see how different a malt is in comparison to the shake. Onion rings are good. Fries are fine, probably better right away hot. Def gonna try some more stuff. Nice spot to stop for a some food after hitting one the bars down the street that don't serve food. Cheap, salty and filling. I'd have ate there very day in my 20's

Elaine‘s food is outstanding. They have the best soups in Bridgeport. Also she makes the best chicken Caesar salad, but my favorite is the Italian beef with Hot peppers

Had the gyro dinner and it was amazing 👏 The place is always busy during lunch. The ladies providing service are always outstanding and provide energetic service :) I have come here many times and I can honestly say all the menus items are delicious . We grew up coming here and stopped going when my dad moved around 2010. I come today and it looks so nice inside. The menu has everything you can think of and the prices don't even look like it changed. One of the same girls is still working there. The food is still delicious. We had bbq beef and a spicy chicken sandwich

They have a LONG menu. Everything I have tried is good, but I can't get enough of the Beef Melt. The meat has so much flavor and is a big sandwich. The ladies that work here are always friendly and get you in and out quickly. OH YEAH, the prices are so low it's like they're giving food away..lol!! I found this place by accident and glad I did now I can't stop going.

Cool spot it has plenty of seating from booths, diner-style sitting, and tall tables. The decor has a Chicago sports theme with pictures of this diner back in the day. For my order, I went with the gyro cheese fries with w/hot giardiniera over top. 7.3. I would say gyro meat is mid to me I didn't even get a lot to begin with. The flavor wasn't there just really lacked flavor. The cheese fries again are just ok too nothing crazy here either. The customer service is great thou very welcoming and friendly the ladies here are dope. But for me, if have gyro in your name it better be bussin and to me, it wasn't. Overall 7.5.

Food is always great. Ribeye sandwich is always cooked and seasoned perfectly. Prices are very reasonable. All of the staff are women and are all super friendly and service is fast.

The food is extremely affordable, tasty, and filling. I got their gyro plate, and it came with so much food! The service was top notch as I was greeted immediately. They also made sure to give me time to order and checked up on me if I had any questions. The ambience gives an old school diner vibe and is very clean.

Looking for a cheap good place to eat and have change back in your pocket. Well checkout George's. It's the best cheap restaurant here in the Bridgeport Neighborhood of Chicago. I'm a huge fan of the patty melts, double bacon cheeseburgers, and the gyros. I would totally recommend this place if you want to have a nice cheap meal.

Decent. Did the job for a desperate dad after school. The pros of this place are the warm staff & definitely the prices. Basically got an appetizer, enteee & kids meal for about $20. If it's any constellation my daughter mentioned that the grilled cheese was amazing. Also the fried zucchini in the sampler was quite tasty as well. With those accolades aside the shrimp fell quite flat. They were popcorn size & had zero flavor as did the accompanying fries. Unbeknownst to me was the fact the they have seasoned fries but I didn't realize it until after I placed my order.

Always hot fresh quick service food made to order. The counter servers are very efficient and have a great sense of humor- it seems as if everybody is a regular here. Great gyros and the all beef hot dog special is the best around. Three homemade soups everyday. Now go!

A friend of mine wanted to check our George's. I have to say the exterior I didn't know what to expect. The food, I have to say was top notch! I did really enjoy the gyro and fries a special. Was enough food to be full. Easily one of my top gyro spots I have tried in my life time. The service was good too. A very large party was a head of us. Definitely felt like the wait staff really was on there A game! I like how nice everyone was to us. The ambiance, initially I didn't know what to think. After sitting down it did feel like everyone who was there were regulars. I did like the decor that was on the walls, make the vibe very homey. Overall, I would say anyone who wants to get a good gyro. I would say that's the go to. You won't be disappointed.

I grew up going to George's since we had a store in the area. I was thrilled to come back and see they're still Doing well and very modernized. Had an amazing gyros at a great price. Thank you! I will be back.

Finally got to check out George's Gyros! We picked up the gyro sandwich, gyro dinner, and grilled chicken breast pita on a Friday night. They were all solid. The gyro dinner and gyro sandwich seemed like the same thing, except the dinner was deconstructed and came with two pitas, so maybe it was more food. I think I prefer the sandwich since it's already assembled. The gyro meet was very good, tender and excellent flavor. The grilled chicken was also very tender, but I liked the gyro better. The fries weren't very good. We got takeout, so maybe they would be better if we had them on site, but they were very soft and soggy. Overall, it was a good meal, but we weren't blown away.

Food is great, with huge portions and even better prices. It's hard to find a meal for two under $30 anywhere now, and George's proves to be a neighborhood gem. With a nice new remodel also 10/10

We were unable to visit Greek town so we door dashed gyros! Best gyros I've had so far and I am always on the hunt for my favorites comfort food. Big thick cuts of meat, tons of yogurt sauce, and the warm soft pita! Chef's kiss!

This place is my go to in that area. All the staff are truly awesome. Never ever had a bad meal there. Everything is awesome. I'm in love with the daughter and mom. The daughter is a hoot the mom's is spot on and pretty as hell. They all have a memory like no other place. They remember what you like and how you like it. Great family, great staff.

First time customer, bad experience. I ordered chicken tenders to go and they forgot to put my order in. I waited 30 mins and it appears I was given someone's leftovers. The tenders had a sauce I did not order and had pieces of lettuce.

my boyfriend and i found this place last minute and have been back ever since. food is made to order and ambience is great. ladies are nice and attentive, impressed us by taking 5+ people's orders without writing anything down and did not mess up our order!! food is good for a quick bite, ranch was not the best a bit too yellow, mayonnaise feel to it but everything else so far is top notch! prices are great too!

This place is a hidden gem. There's no flashy sign or lights to let you know it's a restaurant. You can easily drive past it not knowing it's a restaurant. The decor on the inside is simple and the staff is very friendly. You can't complain abt the prices, they are more than reasonable. I called in my order as driving by I've seen cars double parked and it screws up traffic. Today it was not crazy. I wanted in and the staff that made eye contact said hi. There were a few people eating inside. I ordered 2 gyros and fried mushrooms for pickup. It was ready when I arrived. The mushrooms must have been under heat lamps as they were still hot and crunchy. I paid with cash and she thanked me for paying in cash. The size of the gyro had plenty of meat and tasted delicious. My only complaint is there wasn't enough tzatziki sauce so the meat was a bit dry and two small pieces of tomato. Will be back to try other things on the menu.

Yes, the service here is slow. And, yes, they don't write down your order and often slip up. But the food here is decent. And the ladies who run the place are a delight. There is lots of seating. And parking is ample out front and around the block. On my most recent visit I ordered the chicken salad. It had a huge portion of chicken. Almost a full chicken breast. I asked for an extra side of dressing (which they do charge for), and it turned out delicious. The breakfast is great too. Call ahead to see when they stop serving. They only do it for a couple hours in the morning.

First time coming in for gyro and wow was I in for some good different in a good way and fresh and cooked on point not greasy like other place literally perfect cooked and the staff behind the counter nice and greet you they welcome you in nice coming in and check it out highly recommend this spot for gyros can't wait be back to try some els that catched my eye

Mother in law ( tamale with chili) is delicious. I love how they change the soup everyday but always offer the chili. My wife and I tried them a few weeks again and thus far been there twice. We will be back. The service was on point the women working the counter and cook simultaneously are wonderful. The ladies work know everyone that comes in and make newbies feel welcome. We will be back for sure.

I've tried a lot of Gyros in Chicago, being front the South Side we normally have some good places, but they've fallen off. I sent my mom here to give it a try, we ordered the Italian beef and gyro plate. When I tell you we didn't speak a word while eating! It was delicious and fresh, customer service was great!

On a stretch of South Halsted and 35th is a little short-order joint called Georges. From the outside, you cannot tell that much about it. When you walk in, you are greeted by a well-organized quick-serve restaurant staffed by an all-female staff. They are on the top of their game from a service and grill standpoint. They are a flurry of focused but friendly activity. They also know what to do and see areas to help customers before they ask for things. Their Gyros sandwich was good and well executed. What I enjoyed was their banter with customers on various topics. This is what a short-order place should be. Come on over and visit this place!

The food was good. Had the gyro special. Service was great as well. It was a beautiful day out so windows were open which was a nice touch to the place. Would definitely go back if in the area but not something I would drive out of my way to get.

Very well run family joint that's been around for DECADES in Bridgeport! First off, the service is excellent.. they make you feel welcome even if you're an undesirable. Secondly, the food is consistently good and very cheap in this day and age!! Try the Chicken Pita or Double Cheeseburger but they are known for their excellent Gyros... great Tzatziki sauce, homemade they said. A local fast food joint with an extensive menu. We got some gyros, fried zucchinis, and soup of the day (split pea soup). The fried zucchinis were medallions instead of sticks but they were good. The gyros were packed with meat, 2 slices of tomatoes, and a little onion and sauce. It was so much meat that i had to remove a good amount from my sandwich. The amount of extra meat that i removed from my sandwich could have made another gyro sandwich. The split pea soup was perfect. The people working were friendly. This seems like a neighborhood spot. If i lived in the area I'd come here all the time for something quick to takeout.

I stopped in this restaurant last week and purchased a gyro platter and OMG this was the best gyro that I have ever had. The fries were fresh and the meat was not over salted like most gyros spots season their meat. I will definitely be back this week and will bring along a couple friends. Also, the staff is very very friendly and they give off a very welcoming vibe. I highly recommend this spot and will tell everyone I know that this place is AWESOME!!! Happy Yelping

Best family owned business on Halsted! Their burgers? fire. Their fries? fire. Their soup? Fire. Make sure you come and visit this place. They have combos that will not hurt your pockets but the food quality 10/10. The food is freshly made too! Love their cheese fries and milkshakes. Service is UNMATCHED. These ladies will make sure you get the best service as soon as you come in. So polite! Love it here

Definitely the best no frills gyro joint that's been around for a long time. That being said, the staff, which appear to be family take a ton of pride in serving their customers and ensuring that the food is good and hot. Don't expect table service or dining music. Do expect gyros that are phenomenal and way better than Greek Town. The chicken strips are great and are a meal to themselves. You don't have to worry about parking, there's metered spots in front and non metered about 1/3 of a block away. Our family is working through the menu but every time we order we try a different soup. I always pay cash but it appears they take cards too.

I saw George's Gyros last night on Chicago's best, and let's just say this place is amazing, not only is the food delicious, but the customer service is phenomenal!!! I will be telling my friends and family about George's and I most definitely will be back. Thank you for great food and customer service! Ps: I had the chicken on pita.

I came to this place because I saw it on CB. The Chicken on Pita is AMAZING! Let me say this. This spot does not have enough recognition. Ive been living on the Southside for 5yrs now and have never heard of this spot. To go in here is a pleasure. Every woman in the place is drop dead gorgeous, so you're getting wonderful food thats made to order and you can care less about how long you wait because you just want to in an uncreepy like manner keep sneaking gazes at the women that are making your food. Oh yeah did I say the food is good.

Talk about the nicest/coolest family in Bridgeport. Great food and great service. Excellent Chicago hotdogs, excellent Greek gyros, just all around great everything!! Old school Chicago vibe.

After moving back into Bridgeport, I decided to check out some of the local places that had a reputation for having good food. Also, for the places that I remember fondly, it has been interesting to check in on those that are still around to see how things have fared. George's is one of those places that always had a good reputation. Now, understand that this is fast food. We are not talking about any culinary masterpieces but, that said, I am going to discuss it within those realms as a lover of all types and levels of cuisine etc. So, I decided to try the gyros sandwich because I have heard they were very good. I had a craving for one and since Johnny O's, my fave fast food place in Bridgeport, does not have, I decided to call an order in to George's to get a gyros with everything on it and an order of fries well done (I specifically asked this of the nice woman that took my order and explained I like my fries crispy}. I was pretty excited as this was my first "cheat" meal at a fast food place in awhile. When I walked in, I noticed the place was clean looking and a straightforward looking place. Menu items posted neatly and clearly. The staff, from the moment I called and spoke to the woman on the phone, were nothing but courteous and nice. I was pleased and was really looking forward to the sandwich. After paying and heading home on this first day hovering around 100 degrees, I opened the bag so that I could plate the meal. I was surprised at the lack of "heft" to the sandwich and originally a bit disappointed at that. However, that was more me being in "glutton-mode" most likely. Though I do maintain the sandwich seemed small, it was certainly enough to get a good feeling of having eaten enough. The sandwich fixings were meager. One tomato and a few onion slices. The sauce was sparing and the meat did not include any crispy edges. After eating my first piece of the meat, I was underwhelmed by the flavor. It seemed almost non-existent. I continued to eat it and the taste was not bad, it just did not seem distinct like gyros meat normally does. It is hard to explain but it was not satisfying at all. I had an issue with my fries, however. I made it a point to ask for the fires to be "well done" etc. The portion was generous but the fries were half sort of well done and the other half were nowhere near being. Considering this was a "cheat" meal, I was really looking forward to enjoying. I was kind of surprised, since we talked about it on the phone, that this detail was grossly overlooked. You know, I am not sure when my next visit will be but based on the reviews that I have read here, and because the service was nice in terms of my interactions with the staff, I will give them another try in the future. I will make sure to get those fries well done, dammit! :)

I'm going to go five stars for the neighborhood feel here, I've only been here a few times, however you could see the camaraderie between some of the customer's and the worker's. The haven't seen you in a bit... How's work... etc. It's a busy place and the service is upbeat and organized. I ordered a chicken pita, and some of the fried pickles, husband had a fish sandwich of some sort. Since the chicken takes a while on the grill, I was asked if I wanted the pickles as an appetizer, to which I thought was an excellent idea and usually a reserve for a regular sit down restaurant and not fast food. Which brings up a good point, they do serve up the standard fast food menu, hot dogs, beefs and all that, however if you're looking for a real good fresh salad or a chicken pita down up right, George's does that. Come hungry, portions are ample, they serve breakfast too. I'd call this place a fast diner, it's more than your typical fast food place.

Went for the lunch the other day, got the fish sandwich, it was aight, it's very cheap (and I'm not saying that as an insult, I was just surprised how low the prices were) The sandwich, a side of onion rings, and a coffee, came to like $8, and service was fast too, despite only 2 people working there. I live right down the street so I'm sure I'll be back at some point

I love George's. The employees are amazing. The place is an institution in this area. I've had hot dogs, burgers, grilled cheese, fries, fountain drinks and strawberry milkshakes and they were all good exactly what I expected for the price...delicious. I generally like to customize my order and I've never had a problem. I like that everything is made to order and you can clearly see the kitchen. They have a steady clientele. It's a counter service place. Quick and easy.

Delicious fresh gyros meat off the spit and they are cheap eats place! Good friendly fast service. The Hawk's Special is a giant gyros sandwich with fries and a can of pop for $7.25 very good! I say it's really good place to grab some fast food and support local small businesses this is the place to do that! It's a Bridgeport stable food establishment and honest to good sandwich shop, burgers, and chicken sandwiches and they been around for a long time. I say stop on into George's restaurant and check out their food, I say Gyros sandwich will hit the spot.

I stopped by for a double cheese burger and fries which were both great if you're craving the junkiest of junk food. For less than $5 for both, I shouldn't have expected fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on my burger. My burger had two thin beef patties, American cheese, sliced pickles, caramelized onions, and ketchup which all drowned out the flavor of the beef. The best part about George's is the chef/server. He is charming, warm, welcoming and knew the name and order of every regular that came through that door. If I lived by here in the hood, I'd be a regular too and figure out what my tastiest regular order will be!

Food and service was absolutely outstanding. The price is perfect cause it's less than 20$ and they give you a good potion. I'm definitely coming back
