My wife and I have enjoyed eating barbecue at George's Happy Hog for many years. I realized today that I haven't written a review. Shame on me. I usually have brisket because it is so good, but today I had the Just Right Rib Sandwich. The rib meat was so delicious that it'll make you want to swallow your tongue! I loved the potato salad. My wife's baked beans must have been tasty because I was afraid that I would get a fork stuck in my hand if I tried to take some. Next time I will order a meal with two sides. That might be safer.

Great food. Friendly staff. And phenomenal prices. You can get great BBQ in the city for less than 20 and it always hits. My fav is the bologna dinner. With two sides I usually have some left over for a late afternoon snack. Get here early because the lunch line can be long.

Alright, let's talk about Happy Hog BBQ in OKC. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you – this place is a serious contender for some of the best barbecue in the city. It's the kind of spot you might drive past a hundred times without realizing the deliciousness that lies within. Think of it as a true "hole in the wall" gem, the kind of place where the focus is squarely on the food, and they absolutely nail it. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by that unmistakable smoky aroma that instantly gets your mouth watering. The atmosphere is down-to-earth and unpretentious, likely with well-worn tables and chairs, and maybe even a bit of a line forming – a good sign, in my book! But let's get to the real star of the show: the barbecue. Happy Hog doesn't mess around. Their meats are cooked low and slow, achieving that perfect balance of smoky flavor, tender texture, and juicy goodness. Whether you go for their ribs, pulled pork, brisket, or sausage, you can taste the care and expertise that goes into each cut. The bark on their brisket is legendary, offering a satisfying chew before giving way to incredibly moist meat. And the pulled pork? Forget about needing sauce – it's flavorful enough to stand on its own, though their sauce is a welcome addition for those who like a little extra tang or sweetness. The sides, while perhaps not the main event, are definitely more than an afterthought. You can expect classic BBQ accompaniments done right – creamy coleslaw, hearty mac and cheese, smoky baked beans, and maybe even some perfectly crisp fries. They complement the richness of the meat without trying to steal the spotlight. Now, being a hole-in-the-wall, don't expect fancy plating or a sprawling drink menu. The charm of Happy Hog lies in its simplicity and dedication to quality. You come here for the authentic barbecue experience, and that's exactly what you get. In short, if you're looking for fantastic, no-frills barbecue in Oklahoma City, Happy Hog BBQ is a must-try. Don't be intimidated by its humble appearance; the incredible flavors coming out of that kitchen speak volumes. It's the kind of place that locals know and love, and once you've tried it, you'll understand why. Just be prepared for a potentially small space and a focus on the food – you won't be disappointed.

Back in April we ran into a sweet gentleman in Sam’s club who had a George’s Happy Hog BBQ shirt on.we had struck up a brief conversation because we kept running into each other. I took a pic of his shirt and we finally got around to eating there today. Best decision ever! Great family atmosphere and phenomenal bbq. Highly recommend the ribs and hot links. And the bbq sauce? That hot bbq sauce hit the right spot! Fantastic prices and you get more than what you pay for.

Sides are good. Dry bbq, get ready to chew. Staff is rude, the brothers chopping brisket have no problem giving you a ' you don't belong here' look or two. Classy!

We went to the city to pick our boys up from their flight and we stopped inside this place for the first time. It is the best BBQ in Oklahoma in my opinion. It puts my hometown's BBQ to shame. The minute you walk in you can tell the food is going to be awesome with the delicious smell in the air. We all ordered different things and every item did not disappoint. It was soo good, that I had to order another dinner just because I'm not in the city often and I was sad to have to leave such an awesome place. I'll be making more trips to the city purely because of this restaurant. Can't get enough of it. 10/10

Google
Some of the best BBQ I know of. They make their own smoked sausage. I went for lunch and git the Big Brisket lunch with the mixed green. There green are out of this world. The Brisket was sliced thick and piled high on my sandwich. I was one happy camper when I left.

This is one of my regular places for some of the best Q in OKC. Be sure to get there before noon as there will be a constant line nearly out the front door. Pay attention whilst you are in line because you order at the counter. The young lady behind the register is as sweet as the tea, but those folks making orders ain’t got time for you to think about it too long, they got awesome BBQ to put out the door. George’s Happy Hog reminds me of the Cozy Corner in Memphis. I’ve tried several of the sides here, so trust me when I tell ya, just order the beans, you won’t be disappointed. The mild sauce is the way to go, the hot is VERY HOT! As far as the meats go, my favorite are the rib ends, brisket, and ribs of course. The smoke sausage is good, and the smoked bologna rivals Central BBQ in Memphis. The place smells like a smokehouse because it is! Go to George’s, have some BBQ, and watch out for politicians, the capitol is right around the corner! And they know how good this place is.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic barbecue. The rib ends were great as was everything else. The serving sizes were very generous and reasonable. Plan on sharing and still being full. The dessert list looked great but we were too full to try them. Put this on you must do in OKC!

Yelp
I'm always excited to find a new BBQ joint ...... and I'm skeptical as well. I hate to be disappointed and unfortunately I was. For me, brisket is the key to BBQ. If the brisket is good then more than likely the other items on the menu are good as well. Their brisket was very dry and tough. The plastic fork and knife almost couldn't do the job. The beans were ok. They had some meat chunks and bbq sauce but it was kind of bland. The potato salad was too mashed in my opinion. I loved the mom and pop vibe. Family pics on the wall, order at the counter, bus your own table. I didn't care for the overflowing trash which makes it hard to bus your own table. And there was nothing to wipe off tables after you bus them. Our table was pretty dirty when we sat down. While waiting in line another customer recommended we try the wings, that's the special on Tuesdays. He said they're great. He also said the brisket is good so idk?

Yelp
Prompt, friendly service and good ribs ! Sides are also fresh and tasty. Rib portions are adequate for meal with some left for a snack ! Hot sauce is spicy without too much kick .
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for barbecue if you're in the area with fast service! Upon walking in during lunch time, the space was busy and the ambiance felt very "mom and pop". You walk straight up to order, and there is a large variety of items on their menu with great prices. I ordered the rib ends dinner which comes with two sides and bread-- I got baked beans, potato salad, white bread, and mild sauce. The portion was huge and filling! The rib ends were tender and delicious with their sauce. The potato salad and the baked beans were also very tasty. I'd love to come back for one of their desserts and to try the mac and cheese that is only available Tuesdays and Fridays.

Yelp
This was a pretty good bbq spot that had people RUSHING to enter at opening time. Very mom& pop vibes, clean up/buss your own tables afterwards if you dine in -- adds to the charm I had the pork rib ends (never had this before but pretty yummy) with sliced brisket (pretty good too) My honey had the brisket sandwich, super yummy too Wasn't too long of a wait but there was a line. Tues/thurs (I believe) they have wing specials and ties/fri (I think) they have yummy mac n cheese. Ohhhhh and the peach cobbler?? 5 star. Order one. Order two. Order some icecream to go with it! It is sooo good. Oh and try the watermelon sweet tea -- it is HEAVEN. Not quite 5 stars but definitely yummy with NO regrets. All in all a great bbq place that I would visit again and recommend.

Yelp
For the price, this place is not bad. The 2 ribwich and a side combo is a great deal. The ribs were solid, the brisket wasn't very fatty and didn't have much marbling, so it was a bit dry and didn't have a ton of flavor, that being said, it wasn't as dry as it looked, and for the price, you sort of get what you pay for. All of the sides were pretty small portions. I came here based on the reviews on yelp just to give it a try b/c I love bbq. This isn't the best bbq in the area, but if you are on a budget, this is your place. There was a little mix up in the ordering, I asked if it was possible to get a half pound of the meats and was told "yes" I proceeded to order a half pound of brisket on top of all the other stuff ordered. I ended up getting and getting charged for a full pound. A full pound was too much on top of the pound of ribs and two sandwiches that I had already ordered. If you want an inexpensive bbq lunch and you are in the area, this is your spot. A weird quick about their sauce, they have mild, hot, or mixed. I'm not sure why they don't call it medium. Mixed was a bit confusing to hear.

Yelp
Nice bbq joint! Came here for lunch, had the three ribs and a side combo. Ribs were nice and smokey, and went great with the side of hot bbq sauce. I really enjoyed the baked beans too. Got to meet the chef in the parking lot, super cool guy!

Yelp
This no-frills barbecue place has great BBQ at affordable prices. Where do they get the meats and why is it so cheap!? And generous portions too. They were busy during lunch hours but the food came out quickly. The ribs were excellent, with just enough char, and it's not salty like others. Also, they gave me like 6 ribs! and the meal was about $10. They also had their rib sandwich special -buy one get one free. Again what is this madness!? For sides, the mac and cheese were cheesy and well-seasoned. A minor complaint was that it was room temperature. Also, the potato salad had more mustard than needed. Still, after coming to this place, BBQ might be part of our diet now.

Cheryl J.

Yelp
This was our first time coming here for BBQ. We came at 5:30pm. My husband got in line to order 3# of sliced brisket and 2 sides. Before we left Mark opened up the bag and saw that they gave us 3# of chopped brisket. He took the brisket back to the lady that stayed sitting at the cash register. He told her that he did not order chopped brisket. She apologized and Mark asked if he could get BBQ ribs instead. She said that they don't have any ribs left. Remember they don't close until 8pm. I told my husband to grab the bag and we will take home the chopped brisket. The potato salad was awful because it was like mashed potato with a lot of mustard. The Cole slaw was the best we had ever had. For the 3# of meat and 2 sides we paid nearly $45. WE WILL NOT BE BACK...!!!

Yelp
First thing I will say about George is to prepare to wait. Unfortunately it took a long while to order my food but luckily it wasn't too long to get my food and it was fantastic! The ribs have the perfect texture and I love how they don't try to make their own bbq sauce but stick with the best...head country. The magic happens in an old building in kind of a random location. Don't knock it till you try it.
google avatar

Yelp
I've loved this place for years so I'm amazed that I never reviewed it. George's bar-b-q is my favorite place to get bbq in the whole city. Staff is nice and food is amazing. I have yet to eat something I didn't love. It does get really busy at lunch time so take that into consideration if you're going there. I really love the decor. It's very laid back with records and what I assume are photos of family and friends everywhere. It kind of makes me feel like I'm sitting in someone's kitchen, not a restaurant.

Yelp
The flavor of the meat (and greens) is delicious!... The hospitality of the staff delivers a "family" vibe, and they strive to make all meals as ordered. I have been a consistent customer for a long time (thru the sale, and reorg process). The true meat that you can get from the rib tips - Superb!... Thanks Happy Hog for continuing to be a trusted pillar of the community...much success moving forward

Cseamunchkin N.

Yelp
The ribs are very tasty, the chicken was moist and delicious and the sausage was also very good. Service was friendly and fast. The potato salad is mustard based and the coleslaw wasn't drenched in dressing which is what I like. It was warm in the restaurant but it is also the heat of the summer in a BBQ joint. Overall I will order take out from there again. I want to go back on a day they have Mac and cheese!
google avatar

Yelp
I just moved to Oklahoma a week ago and I'm trying out new spots for soul food and bbq. Of course to my luck I come on a day they don't have Mac and cheese and are sold out of peach cobbler. Apparently someone bought all the cobbler which is crazy because how do you let someone buy all the cobbler that you intend to sell that day instead of making a separate batch for that person? I ordered two kids meals and the meat was WAY TOO TOUGH for them to eat (2 and 4 years old). I was shocked and wasted unnecessary money. Besides that I liked the brisket sandwich and greens. However it would be nice if they could offer all menu items when they are regularly open. I figure they are losing money by only offering it on two days of the week when Mac and cheese is an all day every day side?? It's definitely a hole in the wall restaurant with good food but they could run their business better.

Yelp
Great place to grab a meal on the Eastside. Food is very good every time I go. The barbecue is off the chain and I recommend it highly. The German chocolate cake is to die for also...

Bruce K.

Yelp
I'm not sure how long I've had George's bookmarked but when it was time for dinner, this was the spot. Walking in, I knew it was going to be good. The smell of well cooked meat was intense and the sweet smell of barbecue sauce lit me up. By the time I got to the counter, I was drooling. I ordered a rib plate with green beans and cole slaw. The ribs were perfect. Thick, meaty and delicious. They needed no sauce but I did dip just a little and the spicy sauce is indeed spicy. Green beans were a little mushy but the cole slaw was crisp. It was a solid meal that I enjoyed. They're still closed for dine-in - or at least I was strongly encouraged to take mine to go. [Review 16221 overall - 61 in Oklahoma - 1727 of 2021.]

Yelp
Often find myself looking for good mom and pop BBQ spots all over the south and usual end up underwhelmed but this was the complete opposite! Brisket didn't taste or have the texture like it had been sitting in a warmer for hours like most places, ribs were good, and the hot sausage link was good but I feel it would have been better served whole and not split in half. I had the mac & cheese and baked beans as a side and both were great. The staff was welcoming and made you feel like you were going grab a meal from grandmas house. Make sure to save room for their huge list of desserts. I spent $21 on the entire meal but I could easily see this going for $35+ at most other BBQ restaurants. Overall I would put this in the top 3 BBQ restaurants that I've had and will definitely be back.
google avatar

Kristi M.

Yelp
The food here is really good! Probably the BEST BBQ around. Not to Mention the decent prices - overall it is a hidden gem!
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Came in at lunch time before the line got too long, but if they were a little more efficient, there shouldn't have been a long wait. The place is old & could use an update but has plenty of seating. I ordered the 2 meat plate (ribs and brisket) green beans and mac n cheese with a spicy bbq sauce (purchased an extra too). The ribs were good with just enough meat and there was plenty of brisket, but was a little dry. Sides were good but nothing special. Be prepared to smell like bbq for the rest of the day when you leave. I would eat here again, but wouldn't go out of my way.

Victoria Y.

Yelp
Always enjoy the food. Best barbecue in okc in my opinion. However the little lady in the front at the register is rude. At first I thought it was me but this is about the 4th time of simple communication mishap. But to turn around each time and not own the order being incorrect and then getting an attitude is not cool. Yes I respect my elders but she just wrong.
google avatar

Melissa A.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Staff is friendly, we came here from Tulsa, and will continue to stop by for BBQ when in OKC. Price was good for the two lunch meals, sides, drinks and 2 Peach cobblers. Thank you, we were so glad we stopped here
google avatar

MT B.

Yelp
Place never gets enough respect with all the big name bbg places around. This places has been my favorite bbq joint in town for over 20 years. Always amazing food, solid service, great prices and generous portions. My go to is rib ends and hot links.
google avatar

Nancy R.

Yelp
Very good Slab of pork ribs and the best tasting greens in Oklahoma. I usually order ribs, today I ordered the big brisket sandwich, for my 2 side so I'm having mixed greens & mixed greens- yes they are that good. Their homemade Mac & cheese is also delicious. Family owed - great customer service.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Spectacular! Great chopped brisket and the green beans were superb. I missed the Mac N Cheese (Thursday and Friday only) and the slaw was an good substitute. Big portions and great value. Friendly people to help you out.
google avatar

Christa M.

Yelp
Came here at 11am on Friday..time they open. There was only 1 other car at 11am. After we ordered, the line went out the door. This bbq place is NOT stingy with their portions. I got 2 meat combo plate, comes with 2 sides and bread...$15. Bologna is cut thick. Brisket seemed to be the lean cut, but it had great flavor. The pork ribs are huge and have a good bark. Chicken legs were large and came with the thigh. The sausage is cut lengthwise and also had great smoky flavor.. The staff was overly friendly, greeting us upon entering and exiting, asking how we liked the food and offering to cormorant anything we may not have liked. I just super appreciated the portions. I'm from Dallas where they weigh all the meats and God forbid if its a smidge heavier than 1/4 lb you pay for.
google avatar

Lao S.

Yelp
LOOKS like a great BBQ place, but brisket is dry and barely passable, sides are tiny, and bread is just generic grocery store bread. Not that special.
google avatar

Hugh K.

Yelp
Check out my posted photo for proof: This business does NOT keep its posted hours. We drove here for dinner at 5:51pm on a Monday when they are supposed to be open. The photo shows that they lie about their hours. THIS IS NO WAY TO TREAT PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS.
google avatar

Prince B.

Yelp
Great service, can get slow because they are busy. Great rib tips, chicken ribs. That's all I eat because I love them. Everything looks good and nice prices.
google avatar

Christy S.

Yelp
I recently picked up some BBQ for take out-the restaurant is not open for dine-in due to the pandemic. All orders are taken at the counter, and they have your meal ready in minutes. We got a variety platter so we could try several items - brisket, ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken and sausage. All the meat was good; the favorite was the ribs. The side items were not anything particularly special, but they were pretty good. The prices were very fair, and the service was quick and friendly.
google avatar

Shannon P.

Yelp
This was definitely in the top 3 bbq places I've ever had. The meat was super juicy and packed full of flavor. We tried the chicken, brisket, ribs, and great green beans . Everything was amazing! Even better is the were fully Covid compliant. It is to go only at the moment. They had you sanitize your hands as you walked in and had spots on the floor spaced apart. Great job!

Rolanda D.

Yelp
I understand why George's is the "Happy Hog" the BBQ is Simply Delicious. For me the Burnt Ends, the brisket, ribs and let's just say the meats are the star of the show. The greens are done right, the Mac is decent and the potato salad has a good flavored but it gives mashed potato feel. Customer service is great, Atmosphere has self service/bus your own tables. Very busy so prepare for at least 20 minutes to make it to the front. (it's worth the wai

Yelp
The brisket was dry and tough. The ribs were good. The sausage tasted like it was just hillshire farms. It was cheap and a lot of food for the amount but maybe it was an off day but it just wasn't good. Not that it wasn't in my top 5, it simply wasn't good. The pecan pie though was blow your socks off good. Also the people working were very nice. Just from a food standpoint I didn't have a great experience

Cynthia H.

Yelp
Best hot link i've ever eaten. i ordered three meat combo enough for two people under $20. everything was delicious but i wish i had another hot link it was my favorite i've never taste one like it. i will be back.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
First time here and food was good. I had the brisket and ribs, greens, and potato salad. Brisket was soft but a bit on the dry side. The thing to get here is the ribs you can't go wrong they were some of the best ribs. The sides were good too. Corn bread was tasty. I'll be back to try some more items.
google avatar

Missy S.

Yelp
I stumble across this place by accident and what a great accident it was!!! I enjoyed each and every bite! I ordered the three meat plate with beans and Mac - the Mac needs some improvement but everything was delicious. The mac was somewhat bland .... if they add some sharp cheddar cheese to the mac ...I would rate this place a 5 .... The desserts were great too.
google avatar

Tunie F.

Yelp
Go! I got a family meal with slab of ribs, Mac and cheese and a pound of sliced brisket. We also got a slice of pecan pie. The ribs didn't need any sauce, but I dunked once and awhile. The bbq sauce is house made from a mild/sweet or a spicy/peppery or you can ask for mixed. The brisket had a beautiful bark, with nicely trimmed fat cap. No grizzle or icky fat on the brisket, just enough. The sides were great too. Mixed greens from your childhood if you were lucky. Mac and cheese creamy, not yellow and waxy. This place has been around for at least 20 years. I can't believe I never knew about it. Historic neighborhood restaurant. Just go.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm not one to live with regret. So we came back today. And go the ribs bean and cornbread. Posting a pic. If you think it looks good you need to try cause it's better. Miss this place and the angels will cry for you. Get here early!!! The folks here are wonderful! Simple place in an old retail building I got the brisket with potato salad Brisket was smoked very well. Tasty. Should have tried the ribs And corn bread loOks pretty damn good. I screwed up and did the Texas white bread and potato salad. PS was a little sweet for me aand mashed which I i like chunks so just to be clear. PS was good just not the way my mama made it. Prices are super fair and relaxed seating. Cool find. I'll be bac

Yelp
Drove through the city and checked this place out. It was super good and I had the BBQ ribs. Super juicy and the potato salad was bomb.
google avatar

Chuck R.

Yelp
They were very accommodating to me and my kids. We got there about an hour before close on a Saturday, and they had stored their ribs already. They made some for us anyway because that's what my son was craving. The baked beans were incredible too.
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
Smells wonderful as I walked in. Love at first site. Lunch specials with a drink. Beef brisket sandwich was amazing. My son had the pulled pork sandwich. Amazing too.

Alexandra N.

Yelp
I knew when I got out of my car and smell the smoked meat from outside it was going to be good. By far the best ribs I've had in a long time, I went on Tuesday so they had Mac n cheese which was homemade and delicious & there greens were awesome as well. No wonder so many people were in and out of this place it's delicious! Most people did take out but there is tables to sit at just bus yourself. 10/10 recommend and will be coming back again!

Michelle M.

Yelp
I was visiting Oklahoma City and happened to find this place. I got the brisket sandwich probably one of the best I ever had. I think I showed up to late and missed out on the Mac and cheese. It also had Great family atmosphere with kids running around. Would definitely Go back when in town.
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
What a fun find! This is what I love about yelp. We never would have found this place without it. When you show up, you will not be sure it's open. The metal bars on the outside don't say "welcome!" but the moment you walk in, you'll know you made the right choice. Hubby and I split a 3 meat combo plate (with two sides). We got the ribs, rib ends, and brisket with corn & potato salad (Mac and cheese are only on certain days of the week). All of the meats were delicious! Corn was great. We both weren't huge fans of the potato salad, but maybe it's a personal preference. The inside isn't the cleanest or newest and there are a ton of flies inside. But the feeling of the family owned business made it worth it!
google avatar

Annette W.

Yelp
The ribs were off the chain!!! I didn't even use bbq sauce. T ok me the greens had to me CB h vinegar and sugar. Potato salad was outstanding. We will definitely go back.

Yelp
George has been dead for almost 20-years, but his spirit hangs heavy over the place. My wife and I grabbed a quick lunch together here today and were genuinely pleased. We each tried the Big Brisket Lunch, mine chopped and hers sliced. It's about a half pound of brisket plus a side, cornbread and a drink for right at $20. I've paid about that much for one bar-b-q meal on my own, with half the flavor and none of the ambiance. They're located just south of the Oklahoma State Capitol, east on Culbertson about two blocks. I can't encourage you enough to check this place out. We will be back again and again; making up for a lifetime of lost opportunities to have chosen George's Happy Hog...thanks George! R.I.P.
google avatar

Randy S.

Yelp
Love everything here. It has a family environment like you're in someone's home at their dining room table. I overlooked the order here sign and walked in backwards-__- anywho; I recommend getting the food with food as a side and corn bread. Both sauces were great and I preferred the spicy but I ended up mixing them. They have a tv and the original fast and the furious was playing from some sort of media service other than cable service. The conversations and interactions throughout the dining room between who seemed to be regulars were hilarious, and down to earth; it added to atmosphere there and it was just very peaceful to me albeit the content was comedic. Really; just order anything.

Yelp
No question was one best BBQ places. The staff was super helpful and the prices were pretty darn good. Tried all of the meats. Loved the greens. Baked beans better than slaw.

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner here! Got the Wednesday wing special with 2 sides.... The marvelous greens and the green beans. Then a rib dinner with coleslaw and baked beans. Amazing food and great price!

This is my absolute favorite BBQ in Ok. It is an awesome little spot with so much character and life. It makes me feel at home every time I walk through the doors. The prices are great and the quality is top notch! I have NEVER had anything less than stellar. The rib ends are my absolute favorite and the hot links are great too! The cornbread is just like grandma made and those desserts are to die for!!!!! Go in. Have a slab. Sleep well that night!
