The Best Cocktail Bars in San Antonio | Eater Austin

"In some ways, this La Cantera-area sophisticate is a throwback to the craft cocktail revolution of the 2010s. The bartenders may not blow their budget on pomade, but the work among tufted banquettes, patterned wallpaper, and stretches of Carrara marble. Within that historic drag, the cocktail menu surprises in its modernity. The Sancho uses the blank slate of vodka to tinker with walnut, melon, tamarind, and ancho pepper." - Brandon Watson

The 39 Best Restaurants in Charleston

"It's a little 1970s basement rec room meets dark corner bar meets tiki spot with a raw bar in the corner, and if it all seems a little tilt-a-whirl, that's kind of the point. But the cocktail game is Charleston cocktail pedigreed. Co-partner Joey Goetz was formerly at the beloved The Belmont on King Street, and he left that project to partner with Chef Alex Lira here. His approach at Bar George is what he likes to call "cheap tiki," which he interprets to be a generally tropical approach with nods to tiki cocktail culture without getting all serious about it. Lira's menu is wonderfully all over the map: There's a snappy hot dog that would be at home in northern pool halls or diners of the 1970s, perfectly chosen, exceptionally briny, and well-shucked oysters with elegant mignonettes, a roasted Peruvian chicken that is comfort food squared, and a rotating selection of housemade filled doughtnuts." - Stephanie Burt

George’s Keep at La Cantera is a pretty average spot. The service is decent, nothing to complain about but nothing memorable either. There’s no food available, so it’s really just a place for drinks. The bar does offer a solid variety of single malts, which is a plus if you’re into whiskey. That said, the overall vibe and experience don’t stand out, it’s just a regular bar without much character or anything particularly special to draw you back.

My wife and I stopped in on Saturday night around 7:00 and we were very disappointed and disgusted at what we saw. They have a very bad fruit fly problem…so bad, we couldn’t even finish our drinks because they were flying all around our glasses. When I asked several people if the manager was there and told them the issue, no one really cared except one bartender who knew there was a problem but said there was nothing they could do.

Love the vibe of this place!! We came for happy hour with some friends and the drinks were fantastic, Jacob took great care of us. I highly recommend coming here to enjoy their happy hour and the ambiance of the bar!

I visited during Friday happy hour, and the half empty bar meant the bartenders were extra attentive—a definite plus. This spot is perfect for a night out, with music adding to the vibe. The cucumber cocktail was a refreshing. While the crowd skews young (reminding me of the oldie I am), the energy is lively. Just a heads-up: service can dip when it gets packed later at night, so plan accordingly.

I really enjoyed my time at George’s Keep. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and it made for a great night out. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed and stylish spot.

Beware of what they charge you for and double check your receipt. I been here a few times before but never had such a terrible experience. The bartender Jacob charged me for two drinks I didn’t order then proceeded to go back and forth with me, wouldn’t accept that I never ordered these drinks. He awkwardly made me pay for drinks I never wanted. Was an absolute terror to deal with and wouldn’t admit he was in the wrong. He never resolved the issue and just closed out my card.

Yikes. Old run down spot with a large bar. Somewhat large bar, decent seating. There’s so many better spots you could go. Our issues were the Bartenders working July 13th Sunday evening. Terribly rude. Pretty upsetting, I’d be happy to message the owner about it, the prices aren’t bad for drinks but the atmosphere isn’t great.

Cheers to George’s Keep! Great Happy Hour selection with spot on cocktails. Very attentive bartenders that are happy to be true mixologists. The fresh ingredients really set the cocktails apart. You can tell they go the extra mile for prep and each and every cocktail is made to specification. It’s so nice to get that personalized feel.
