George's Place Beachfront

I visited Cape May this weekend for the first time since my Coast Guard graduation in 2022 and decided to have breakfast at George’s Place with my wife. Unfortunately, the experience reminded me that racism still exists, even in places that promote hospitality. From the moment we sat down, the only interaction we had with our waiter and waitress was to order, receive the food, and pay the bill. They never checked if everything was okay, never offered refills, and completely ignored us the entire time. Meanwhile, every other table around us, filled with white customers, received attentive and friendly service. When I finally asked for more coffee, the waiter (with an Italian accent or similar) brought it with a bad attitude, spilled some, and didn’t bother to clean it. After paying, I chose not to leave a tip because of the poor treatment, and the same waiter (Italian accent) followed me outside, confronting me and saying it was “disrespectful” not to tip, even though his service was clearly intentional and unprofessional. The food itself was great, but the service was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced. Being followed outside over a tip after being ignored during the meal was unacceptable. It’s sad that in 2025, this kind of behavior still happens. To my fellow Coasties and anyone who values respect, think twice before supporting a place that treats people differently based on how they look or speak. Racism is real. Thank you to the male waiter (with an Italian accent) for reminding me of that today, October 25, 2025, between 10:45 a.m. and 11:50 a.m.

Good service, but the breakfast was only ok. I got the crab cakes Benedict and my wife ordered the traditional Benedict. The food came out very quickly. The hash brown was crunchy and good. The eggs were poached perfectly but the hollandaise kind of ruined both orders for us. Rather than being decadent and savory, it seemed sweet. Adding some salt helped but with everything smothered in it, it was a little disappointing. Additionally my wife’s bacon was not crispy enough for a Benedict and the crab cakes was ehhh.

Crazy place, stopped by for a cup of regular coffee to go, no frills, no nothing... small cup of Folgers .... set me back ... $4!!!!! Incredible how the some businesses ovetcharge. One place i will definitely NOT go back to.

We love it here! Great value for money, great food. We've sampled both breakfast and lunch, both are great! Breakfast has standard offerring and some more creative items (limoncello French toast). Lunch brings out more of a Mediterranean flavor. The Gyro is flavorful and hearty for example. Everything well seasoned, nothing bland, portions not stingy, service is pleasant. Cash only I believe. Someone mentioned its a hidden gem and I agree, its unassuming. Actually quite refreshing in comparison to other cape may restaurants.

We were looking for something different and we were thrilled to come across George's. Our server, George was awesome and added to our Great experience. The food was excellent. Super Fresh and plentiful. The Souvlaki was juicy and flavorful. The Short ribs were also excellent. Next time we BYOB

This place is a hidden gem for breakfast. I don’t think many people know about it. I found it searching Google for places near my hotel room. There was no wait at all which I was surprised since it’s a Saturday morning in July and the place is really small. My husband and I both enjoyed our food. I like the breakfast options. Only negative was the coffee was very watered down. Not sure if I got a bad batch or if they always make their coffee this way. I would definitely come back!

Outstanding breakfast. The wait was totally doable for this little place. Service was slow to reach us, but they were slammed with customers, which is totally understandable. Food was so good. 2x Banana French Toast, tiramisu waffle, crab cake eggs Benedict. Will absolutely return to this local gem.

This place was on my list and we finally got to check it off on our last day there. There was always a line since the place is small but it's clean and the decor is simple. Waited about 15 minutes. The prices were less than what I expected. Yeah it's a diner but you know you pay for location. We all had breakfast. Pancakes, French Toast, Eggs, Bagel, Lox, Bacon, Sausage, etc. We could not find a thing to complain about. The hash browns and coffee were exceptional. The service was great, Irene was awesome. Will definetly be going back there on the next visit to try the lunch menu.

Great breakfast! I had banana French toast and sausage links. Three slices of French toast and four links. The four links were okay, but lacked that punch of flavor. Coffee was strong. Hard to get second cup since waiter disappeared. My wife had a spinach omelet with toast and hash browns. All was very tasty. Cash only so be aware.

Excellent service, delicious food, and a wonderful value! You get a fresh salad, fries, and a top notch gyro lunch for $12. What a value!! Comes with an extra side of tzatziki sauce

When researching eateries to try while I was in Cape May, George's Place came up on many a list of top places to try. The menu looked like it had some solid dishes, and I head they were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives - so I thought it was worth checking out. I had just settled into my hotel room and was looking for lunch, so off I went. There are two George's - the original one here on Beach Ave and a second location off the Washington Mall. The restaurant is owned by a group that operates several eateries and event companies in Cape May and the greater Jersey Shore area. I think I came after the lunch crowd, as there were a few tables open when I arrived. Soon after my server asked for my beverage order - I asked for a sparkling water with lime, but was told they don't have sparkling water - or limes. I found that odd to be honest, but fine - a water and lemon sufficed. Soon after, though, I saw another table with a bottle of Pellegrino - so did they serve sparkling water or not? Did I need to be more specific in my request? I know this place is BOYB but does that include sparkling water? So many questions. Really though, no limes? Anyway, the menu wasn't too large and contained a large selection of Greek items. I decided to go with the turkey and brie sandwich, which came on sourdough and served with a house salad and fries. The salad and fries were good - the salad had lots of components/textures in it and the fries were typical Greek-style sliced potatoes. The sandwich was a disappointment - specifically the fact that the turkey was cold-cut style which in my opinion really downgraded the sandwich. It would have been nicer to see sliced turkey breast, or at least something that wasn't so processed. Service was fine, they were friendly enough. Overall though, I don't understand the hype of this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong item, but even if this is a no-frills beach eatery I thought they could have done better; I don't think seltzer, limes or sliced turkey are things reserved for higher-end establishments. If I ever return to Cape May I would likely bypass this spot.

Great brunch place with delicious food that tastes as good as it looks! The restaurant itself was clean and the staff was welcoming and kind. I'd definitely go there again!

This spot was very cozy and peaceful. Service was great and food was very good. They only had regular coffee, I wish they had more options for hot drinks. The breakfast quesadilla was great, and so was the omelette. They do cash only.

Breakfast was delicious and very reasonably priced. Family enjoyed our time, service and food!

Fantastic spot, we went for breakfast, got one of the last tables before the wait started. I had the lemoncello French toast and my husband and omelet. Very fresh, and tasted great! It was a little noisy, but fine. Service was fantastic, great coffee!

Wow this place is a hidden gem! The place is small and older but don't let that turn you away. First of all the prices are responsible especially since the portion sizes are huge! It is cash only so make sure you bring cash. I had the gyro which was delicious, it was large. I loved the potato chips that it came with. My husband had the breakfast quesadilla which was good. We will definitely be back. We are going to wildwood this summer and I saw that they have a location there which I look forward to trying.

This place is it! The food is fresh and delicious! The staff runs like a well oiled machine. This establishment has a cozy and clean atmosphere. Keep doing what you do! If you're ever in the neighborhood. GET SOME!!!!

I could eat here every day the food is just that good and consistent. This is my favorite location (there are several other George's places in the area). I've liked everything I've ever ordered from here but the Havarti panini is my favorite by far. I pair it with the unsweetened raspberry lemonade. The hummus is another must. I could eat it by itself (and I definitely have when I've run out of cucumbers ). Their sandwiches come with a side salad and French fries, both which are delicious. The salad is not your typical boring side salad which I love. This is the smallest location and since it's right by the beach, parking can be challenging. Inside it can get very crowded. They have mostly booth seating and it's cash only. There is an atm next door they suggest if you don't have cash. The portions are great for the price, especially how many places charge tourist prices in the area. Love love love George's on Beach Avenue!!!

Had lunch today at George's Place. Food and service was fantastic. We are a party of 7 and were greeted and seated immediately. Food was prepared quickly and everything was delicious. The only note is that they only accepted cash.

Lovely place! Friendly staff, and the food is great for a more upscale diner type of restaurant. Delicious omelet and french toast, fast service.

I'm really surprised that the star rating for this restaurant is as high as it is. There is absolutely nothing special about this place. The food while being a generous portion, especially for the price is average AT BEST. Bland and boring; if it weren't reasonably priced, we would feel ripped off. The service was awful. We were seated right away and offered drinks and that was the last of anyone appearing at our table. We sat patiently with our menus at the end of the table for so long that we considered leaving. The servers just kept walking past us or standing around either the front of the restaurant or the back chatting away. I wish we had just gotten up and left when it was first discussed but we were hungry and had already been there so long that to start over somewhere else just didn't make sense. We had to flag one of the servers to order. Then we were completely ignored again. We really should have left and given our money to a deserving establishment. Two stars for the large portion of food and the reasonable price.

So good!!! What a hidden treasure. I had a tasty traditional gyro. And at 58 years old I can say with absolute certainty, these were the best, and most unique, french fries I've ever had. Wonderful!

Very good portion sizes for reasonable prices! It's located right on the corner by the beach. Service was great, and the food came out fast. Each lunch entree came with a side salad and fries. Breakfast is available until 2 PM. We got the chicken tenders, Philly cheesesteak, and chicken gyro. My personal favorites were the chicken tenders and gyro! Just took one star off since some of the salad seemed wilted and old, some leaves turning brown, but everything else was great.

I'm a sucker for a DDD restaurant and couldn't resist George's. I lucked out with my arrival at 7pm on a Saturday night without a reservation. But it was just me and so they put me at their only one-top table and I have no complaints! I managed to stick pretty close to my keto diet with chicken souvlaki, hold the potatoes and extra salad. Their Greek salad was fabulous and delicious. Fresh lettuce and tart cheese, just perfect. The chicken on a bed of sautéed spinach was wonderful. Moist, flavorful and still hot from the grill. I cleared the plate. Most Greek desserts are sweet and all carbs so I opted to skip that course tonight. And yes, George's is still cash only. Can there be two George's Places within three blocks of each other, one at 315 Ocean Street and the other at 301 Beach Avenue? I went to the one on Ocean Avenue in Washington Commons.

The food was really good. I got 2 pancakes with scrapple. The service took a while to get the food but it was worth the wait (Because it was jammed). The atmosphere in the restaurant is really calm and has nice music. Overall I really love this restaurant. I'd recommend.

This is one of our go to places for deliciously consistent food. Staff is incredible. Greek flair. Lemon chicken salad is bursting with flavor. I always get dressing on the side. It's a cute little place to have breakfast and lunch.

Had the Kojak omelette! How can you not order something called the Kojak omelette! Very very good and filling! Nice place and friendly staff. They do only take cash so bring a few bucks with you or you'll be doing the dishes.

Another Cape May spot, we came here on a recent trip for dinner. We didn't realize there were two locations and almost went to the wrong one! Luckily we figured it out before our reservation time. It was fairly packed and we noticed that several groups brought wine so it is a BYOB restaurant which seems like a good idea if you prep in advance. We ordered the falafel crostinis which came with 3 varieties: pesto and tomato, feta and olive (we opted for no feta), and red pepper with tzatziki. The portion size for this was a good amount and we both really enjoyed this appetizer. For the main course, my partner ordered the branzino (served whole) and I got the beef short rib. He enjoyed the fish, he felt it was well seasoned and tasted fresh without being too heavy. He managed to finish which was impressive. My short rib was a hearty piece of meat, unfortunately, it was a bit dry for my taste. The sauce on the short rib was great and I was able to ask our server for extra jus on the side. This helped a little but didn't improve the meat's inherent dryness. The potatoes were very crispy but I wished the meat had been more juicy. Both of our mains came with salads (a choice of Caesar or Greek). The salad tasted fresh (I opted for Greek sans feta). All in all, this place made solid food with the exception of the short rib. I'd rate it a 3.5 but rounded up. This wouldn't deter me from coming back but I'd probably stick to their seafood options if I returned based on this experience.

Really really dirty. Needs to close and a total rehab. The booths are falling apart. Lots of flies. Vents covered in dust. Smells like old fry oil. Couldn't get out fast enough.

Food is great. I think of this place as a high end diner. Ate here 3x in 6 days. They have some of the best French fries I've ever tried!

This was our first and second visit here. Food was delicious. The service was great and you're at the beach! We will definitely return. It's our new favorite breakfast spot.

Such a cool place with a great history! We were seated immediately and had fast, courteous service. Food was delicious and great value. Guy Fieri has been here so it's basically hallowed ground - and it totally lives up.

After first going to the wrong location (yes, there are 2 George's Place in Cape May), we finally made it for our reservation on a Saturday AM. George's Place is located in a cute little shopping center in Cape May, so it was nice to walk around the shops before and after we ate, and if there was a wait, it's convenient to have options to pass the time. The space is decently sized - there was a large party while we were dining, but there were a good number of open tables, so if we didn't have res, I imagine we would have been seated quickly. Our server was good - attentive enough and importantly, filling our coffee and water when appropriate. The breakfast menu is large, but not overwhelmingly so. It was difficult to decide between sweet and savory - they had excellent options for both! I ultimately went for the limoncello french toast. A lot of times, french toast can be fairly decadent and overly sweet, but I appreciated their use of limoncello greek yogurt (felt healthier) and fresh blueberries (vs a sugary sauce). The bread wasn't the most fluffy, but it was still good and made for a nice portion size (I could finish the dish without feeling overly stuffed). My husband got the crab cake eggs benedict, which he also enjoyed. His might have been a touch more filling than mine, but the flavors were really good and made for a nice, beach-y brunch. The coffee was standard, and as mentioned, appreciated that it was filled appropriately. The pricing was very reasonable (esp for crab cakes), so we didn't break the bank with our brunch, and we were filled up for a number of hours after. Overall, we really enjoyed our brunch at George's Place, and we would recommend it to others visiting Cape May!

My wife and I ate here for our final meal during a recent Cape May trip. Service was prompt and professional. Really enjoyed the pancakes, eggs, bacon, and toast meal. Their potatoes had great texture. Good location on Beach Avenue. Not a huge fan of cash only but it was worth it.

Came for a late breakfast and was not disappointed!! I had the Jackie O omelette with perfectly proportioned spinach, tomato and feta throughout. Hash browns were nice and crispy. My husband had the original Gyro which was fresh and perfectly proportioned of lettuce tomato, onion lamb and taziki sauce. His gyro came with a beautifully fresh Mediterranean salad with chickpeas and a light lemon vinaigrette. My favorite part of this delicious meal was the lemoncello French toast that we shared - two slices of Golden French toast topped with lemon Greek yogurt and fresh blueberries. I will definitely be ordering my own plate of these next time we visit! Service was quick on this cloudy Wednesday afternoon (not a good beach day so foot traffic was light). Lastly, loved the music playlist! Gen-X friendly.

My 7 person crew wanted to go here because it was on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". I'm typically not impressed by that type of thing, but in this case I should have been. Before we get to food, note this is a small place that can't accommodate too many large groups. Our crew split into two booths. The food was amazing. We went for breakfast, and they had sweet and savory options. Large plate sized pancakes (blueberry for us) topped with confectionary sugar and local maple syrup on the side, generous sides of bacon (more on the floppy side than the crispy side), and a plethora of omelette options (Denver and Jackie-O for us). There were three Benedict options -traditional was amazing and per the eater "the best I've ever had". The crab Benedict got a thumbs up too. Hash browns were crispy. Coffee was solid. Banana French toast was stacked like lasagna, incredibly moist and delicious, and had cinnamon decorations on the plate (nice touch). We were all happy we ate here and would go again if we could. Parking is metered on the street. The promenade is nearby.

Cash only restaurant steps from the beach! We dined on a Monday morning and the breakfast was delicious. I ordered the Traditional Benedict and my husband had a Bacon & Egg wrap with hash browns. Server was friendly in this cozy breakfast spot. Street parking available.

I loved this simple and sweet little luncheonette on the corner of Beach and Perry. This tiny booth seating restaurant has salads, wraps, and sandwiches. With quick service and a small waitstaff, this "ma and pa" style diner is as warm and welcoming as they come. Featured is the old style setting and the BLT Salad with Chicken

We are visiting Cape May for the day and stopped here for a quick bite. We could have opted for breakfast but we all chose lunch. The salads are fresh, the sandwiches are hardy and their French fries are really good. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. Don't miss this cute shop which has been in business since 1968.

Popped in here after it was recommended by our motel. It had been on my radar anyway, so decided to head here. Lucked out with a dinner seating and service was really fast. The hummus and pita was a bargain at $4. Loved it. The $19 chicken souvlaki came with a layer of thinly sliced fried potatoes that I swear to baby Jesus were the best I've ever had in my life. Crispy but tender, perfectly seasoned. The salad was generous. And the chicken souvlaki was good - I personally would have liked it if it had been more well-done. Like others, I was surprised when the check came and I whipped out my credit card that I was told it was CASH ONLY. I wish I knew in advance - I did look at the website later and there it was, buried deep within the pages. Might be helpful if it's mentioned up front, just in case. Luckily, I had just enough cash for dinner.

We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed the laid back, diner vibe of this place. All dishes were well executed and presented (nice side salads with each plate). Prices are reasonable but remember this is a cash only establishment. The gyro was good, but slightly light on the meat. The chicken tender plates for the kids were crowd pleasers and the fries were the stand out. Good service, friendly staff, great location . Bring your cash and give this place a try for an informal lunch.

Stopped in for the brunch and it hit the spot both in taste in presentation. Clearly in head to head competition with it's rival Uncle Bill's across the street. George's seems to shape itself as more of a refined diner as opposed to Uncle Bill's classic look from exterior right down to the menu. George's does that right. I got the limoncello French Toast - Sourdough French toast topped (generously might I add) with Greek yogurt and blueberries. Again the presentation was good. I could taste each ingredient in the breakfast. There were a few other things on the menu that I would consider giving a second go here but there were one big thing that got me. My nemesis -- Cash only decided to show up here. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if I was warned as much as I hate it. On the website it says card is accepted though. Was their machine down? What saved it was the waitress has Venmo so that solved that problem. Beyond this, it's a decent enough deluxe diner that has a reputation with Food Network TV shows.

Nice place for a quick bite on the shorelines of Cape May. Unfortunately I need to knock off a couple of stars since they do not accept Apple Pay, Samsung Pay/Google Pay, Zelle, Cash App or any credit cards whatsoever. However they ironically do accept Venmo and CASH ONLY. It would be nice if there were more of a heads up before you order your meal. I had to run around Cape May finding a working ATM to pay my tab. The food was outstanding. I had the "Kojak Omelette" which was delicious and the green tea with honey and lemon were all terrific. If they ever decide to accept NFC payments (besides Venmo) and credit/debit cards I will be back and give them the 5 star review that they rightfully deserve.

Went to the Wildwood location and loved it, so I decided to give the Cape May location a try! Equally delicious food right across from the beach and walking distance from tons of hotels on Beach Ave. Takeout is available and I highly recommend the Vedge - a giant omelette packed with mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes and cheese. Hit the ATM, this spot is cash only but totally worth every penny.

This was my second visit to George's place on Ocean Ave. I had a simple grilled cheese, that was perfect in every way ( bc it had bacon ;)). I loved that it came with salad in addition to fries. Our first visit was last year for breakfast. My bf loved his Eggs benedict and i loved my blueberry pancakes. Service was quick both times.. I will continue to frequent Georges when I am in Cape may.. which I hope is often.

Went here for breakfast and was delighted. The staff is super friendly, the service was excellent and the food exceptional. We both had omelets and they were superb. My omelet took longer because I asked for the veggies to be cooked through and they obliged - nothing pre-cooked here! The coffee was very good, the only criticism I have is the brand of sugar and sweetener they use is not name brand - not sure why, but would be much better if the Splenda was actually Splenda.

I recently visited this place for lunch and was thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious and the service was prompt and friendly.

We love breakfast at George's place! The food is always delicious. They have a great variety of sweet decadent breakfasts and savory breakfasts. Food comes out super fast and the service is very friendly. Highly recommend the herb and Brie omlette or banana French toast! Beware that they are cash only!!

First time in downtown Cape May in the winter. The friend of a friend had some dog shopping to do. We were not going to be able to make it to the Mad Batter without waiting at least an hour at noon or so. I was in the hankering for an Eggs Benedict. And was not about to give up on the idea. We thankfully stumbled upon this restaurant. No wait. No reservation. And ready to seat all four of us. I enjoyed a truly well made and filling eggs Benedict with crab cakes. Extra hollandaise sauce. And I was not disappointed. I definitely recommend it. In this case, one of our party of 50's had NEVER tried any kind of Eggs Benedict. A great introduction she said. She's all about crab and was more than pleased. The remainder are the banana French toast. She raved. And the final was a Turkey Brie. Again. A winner. Just know it is CASH ONLY and BYOB! Enjoy holiday shoppers. Avoid the friends in the center of town and support this lovely establishment.

We stopped by while out walking to pick up lunch and wait for our order. It took about 15 minutes to get two salads which was fine because their phone was ringing off the hook in addition to five couples ahead of us ordering. We both got the Mediterranean Salad with chicken. It is one of the best greek salads I've had. Everything is super fresh and bursting with flavors. It was a huge salad and I ate the entire thing - that's how good it was. The dressing was just perfect too and not too heavy. We loved our lunch and would definitely return.

Found this on a quick search for vegetarian food. What a great find! Friendly service, excellent food, huge portion. We'll be back!

Really good food! I would just try to do something with the fly problem they have but overall they were really fast and friendly.

Review is for the 315 Ocean St location. Nice interior (no outside dining) dining room with very dim lights. The servers were very friendly but a little inexperienced as 2 of them had troubler opening our wine (yes, BYO!). NP, my husband took over & opened the wine. Great menu! They were out of red snapper & branzino so I was disappointed but found something else yummy on the menu! Falafel app is enormous but good. The octopus app had hardly any octopus - would not order again. Salads come with the meal but you don't get it until you get your meal. Meals are very large - I got the crab cakes which were delish. They came with salad, potatoes, & spinach. Oh & also a small stuffed grape leaf. Very very good. Dessert was baklava - eh - skip it - it was very sweet & I've had far better. Nice place - would definitely go back. MAKE RESERVATIONS!

This was my first visit to George's. My boyfriend and I were visiting Cape May and decided to stop here for breakfast. It's a small place located across the street from the ocean. Everything we ordered was delicious. I loved how crispy the hash browns were and the eggs were very creamy and fresh. I would recommend George's and I plan to visit again. Great little spot in Cape May.
