"Waco has been drinking at George’s since 1930 — that’s reason enough to drop in. The must-have drink here is the Big O, which is a big old goblet of beer. It became so popular that the bar developed a whole menu of Big O-inspired cocktails and a whole lot of beers served Big O style." - Courtney E. Smith

"A favorite of Baylor students and beer drinkers alike, “The Big O” at George’s is an essential Waco staple. Gigantic goblets of ice-cold, budget-friendly beer flow like water here, along with plenty of frozen drinks and margaritas. Soak up the booze with nachos, chicken wings, tacos, and more." - Amy McCarthy

I r heard great things about this place and was encouraged to stop here should I ever come back to Waco. I have to say it was worth it. The appetizers were amazing. Onion Rings, Fried Pickles and Chicken Fried Steak is very delicious. I too would highly recommend this place. I know there may be a wait but the food and service is good.

Recommended by a local friend, we were not disappointed at this restaurant! Great, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Wide variety of items on the menu and VERY AFFORDABLE - we are already planning what we'll have on our return visit! 😀 my wife settled on the Cry Baby Burger w onion rings, and I on the lunch special Chicken Fried Steak. I have to say, the onion rings were probably some of the best we've had. She loved the burger and the homemade jalapeño bun. I thought the green beans were also tops on my list, and the CFS breading was just as tasty as the breading on those onion rings. However, the meat was about 80% the size of the breading. It was still so tasty it was good by itself! The gravy was nothing special, though. I wish it was homemade, but it tastes like a generic powder mix. Creamy, but not much flavor. All in all, this is a wonderful place, with the managers walking around greeting customers and attentive servers. We'll definitely be back ! - UPDATE: We're back again, and everything was still sooo delicious! Nephew's Chicken was my attempt at a "lighter" dish (which it was!). The mixed veggies were cooked to perfection! My daughter's Steak Finger's from the kids menu were an awesome deal! That breading is out of this world! And the fried mushrooms probably the best we've had. Once again, thank you for another great meal and such great value! 🍻❤️👍

A Waco classic meet-up for reliable food, simple drinks, and a fun, relaxed atmosphere. I had the spinach salad with chicken and it was excellent! Well seasoned chicken over fresh spinach with bacon, mushrooms, and purple onion. I had ranch and balsamic served on the side. Perfect blend of flavors and a hearty serving size. Hubby had the crazy wings-chicken breast with cheese and a slice of pickled jalapeño inside, all neatly wrapped in bacon! Served fresh with ranch for dipping. (The chicken could have used a little seasoning before being wrapped up, just to bring more flavors, but it was still tasty.) Food was served quickly. Server was friendly. We went on a Tuesday night and there was no wait! They have a large menu to satisfy anything you might be craving. Definitely stop by next time you are in town. Just a couple blocks off I-35.

Google
Killer burgers and sandwiches at a good price. They use sweet buns and all the toppings are fresh. Quality beef and chicken. Large portion - didn’t feel like they skimped on anything but it wasn’t impossible to eat either. Sweet potato fries were burnt and unseasoned, so avoid those, but everything else was great. Service was good, food was great, price was right. Worth stopping by if you’re in town.

The food here is great, but I wanted some of their amazing onion rings to munch on for my drive to Ft Worth. I walked in to order, and it took sooooooooo long to get them. I literally waited 25 minutes. They also have some t-shirts for sale in the front waiting area, I think I memorized them all waiting. Lol Maybe ordering ahead is a better option, because they were not even busy inside and like 4 people were standing up front chatting. But, the rings were super delicious as always. A full order can feed a lot of folks. The stars are for the food only, not the service but I know the front has nothing to do with the cook time.

Onion rings, chicken fried steak, broccoli salad, and rolls were very good. I did not care for the fish, cole slaw, nor the burnt sweet potatoes.

The 1 and only issue we had was my sister said there were 2 of us and for reasons unknown, she assumed the people who came in behind us were with us. The waitress once told there were 2 of us put the extra menus and silverware away. It wasn't loud, but it wasn't quite as it was pretty busy. The waitress we did get was awesome. She wasn't a nuisance always up under you, nor was she inattentive. She was perfect. Always ready to offer refills. I was a little weary of trying to hamburger steak as unlike the picture, which was taken after I made it how I wanted. It comes with grilled onions layered on top. With ketchup, I didn't taste any of the onions. The Mac and cheese I was not a fan of. It was too Gooey. Sticking to the roof of your mouth and nothing else, type Gooey. It was way too much for my taste. The mashed potatoes were said to be garlic, but it's so mild you don't even know it's there. The rolls were given before the meal after you ordered. My sister loved the Sweet Potato Fries. My sister had the grilled tilapia and I tried a bite it was way too slimy for me. She admitted it was and that fish isn't normally slimy like that. Otherwise, it was an excellent meal. If we ever go back to Waco again, this will definitely be the place to eat. We had planned on breakfast, but by the time we got there, it was lunchtime.

Google
We wanted brunch with pancakes and George’s did not disappoint! Their breakfast mimosa’s were a table favorite and my party was excited by their selection of beers! Vibes were nostalgic and cozy like your favorite hometown bar or diner. Portions were great especially for prices and our service was impeccable! It was initially disappointing their patio didn’t open till 11am but we ended up enjoying the inside and atmosphere! Definitely a recommended spot if you’re in the area or passing through!

Richard P.

Yelp
Great meal great waiter. Huge onion rings. Sat in the restaurant not the bar. It was lunchtime but prompt service. Wife had a strawberry chicken salad and I had chicken fried steak. Great food

Robert M.

Yelp
Eh, when I moved here, you see the billboards for this place. It's kinda tucked away, so you have to actively look for it. But it's in a fairly central part of Waco. Not far from the downtown area. I finally decided to try it with a friend. You walk in and it was packed. Just people everywhere. It was a bit confusing at first to figure out where to ask, to get seated. Eventually we found the host spot and requested a table. It's a very sizable place and a bit of a maze really. Was hard to find the restrooms, and again super crowded. Maybe too busy for its own good even. Got menus and placed our orders. The food and drinks eventually came out. The service was ok but not really attentive. And the food was pretty average, in the end. Nothing about this experience made me want to rush back there, again. I guess I don't see what the fuss was about, but maybe some people love it. I know they have at least one other location. Maybe that one is better?

Yelp
On my way home from Dallas, I decided to stop by George's in Waco and pick up some food, and I have to say, the Crazy Wings did not disappoint! These chicken balls--stuffed with pepper jack cheese and jalapeno, wrapped in bacon, fried to perfection, and served with ranch--are *fire*! Highly recommend them if you're a fan of spicy and savory bites. The Mexican martini I got to-go was also top-notch, definitely "fire." However, the service was a bit off. It started out fine, but things got weird when I had to wait over 10 minutes for my cocktail after my food was already ready. I asked at least three different servers (there were 4-5 of them eager to help), but nothing happened for a while, and the wait was frustrating. Overall, the Crazy Wings and martini saved the day, but the delay in service was a bit of a letdown. I'd definitely stop by again for the food, though!

Jake H.

Yelp
George's Restaurant Bar & Catering is a great spot to watch sports, have a beer, and get some grub. The chicken tenders and fries were great and the sides are really good. The place was quite busy which makes sense for college football Saturdays. The shrimp wrapped in bacon kept coming by and I'll be ordering that next time.

Grady G.

Yelp
First and foremost, our waitress, Brittany, was absolutely amazing and the best of all the ones we have had!! Ask for her and you won't be disappointed!! Thank you Britt for taking care of us! The food! Whoaaaa also always on point! The atmosphere here is always energetic and hoping! Worth the wait! We come 2 hours away to eat here!!

Hannah F.

Yelp
Stopped by here while visiting Waco because it was recommended by family who live down there and is marketed as a Waco classic. They have a comfy ambiance with friendly and attentive service and a very large menu. This was also one of the most affordable places we ate at during our trip which was nice. I had the Hawaiian Chicken which was just the right amount of food with good flavor. Pretty simple food but cooked well and yummy. The highlights were the sweet potato casserole and their giant margaritas. My husband said the wings were pretty good as well. Would stop be here again the next time we are in town.

Gabriella S.

Yelp
Came as a party of 2 during lunch on a weekday. We were sat immediately. Service was very friendly and prompt. We enjoyed our meal , prob would not order the pepper poppers again. We liked that it wasn't fried but it was very unflavored. Almost no seasoning or spices, we were left underwhelmed on an appetizer that has potential. Chicken fried steak was breaded and fried to perfection and the onion rings were crispy and the onion tender. We loved! Catfish was not the best, flavor and breading was great but it was hard to bite and very slim pieces of catfish, it was almost laughable. Okra and broccoli rice casserole was delicious. Prices were reasonable, would stop in again if in the area.

Taylor B.

Yelp
Great bar and bar food. Highly recommend if you want to watch the game and have a beer, they have TVs everywhere. The staff wasn't the worst, but also not so helpful or friendly. Go for the beers not the friendly faces.

Dewayne B.

Yelp
George's is always on our list when we are heading to Waco for dinner. The food is awesome, the drinks are amazing, and the team is there when we need them.

Suzanne B.

Yelp
Nykayla was are server she was very nice and polite and made sure our glasses never got close to empty. We had the best chicken fried steak and chicken Parmesan. Sides sweet potato casserole, fried okra for an appetizer we got the chips and cheese con queso. The food was awesome. Atmosphere was very laid back. Great selection in Beer. Pricing is great!!$$

Christina S.

Yelp
The chicken fried steak was delicious, sweet potato casserole was scrumptious and the onion rings were amazing!

Valerie S.

Yelp
George's happened on accident, but so glad it did. There was a small wait. We were greeted with friendly and hospitable service (Yay!) I ordered their famous chicken fried steak and it was definitely one of the best I've ever had! Perfecly crispy, flavorful, and tender! Mashed potatoes and gravy were superb! Every bite was WORTH every calorie! This is a BIG dish and I definitely could not eat all of it. My husband ordered their crispy tilapia, but it waa unfortunately soggy. When a manager came by to ask how our dishes were, I pointed out my husband's fish and she immediately acknowledged that it was not cooked correctly and would use it as a learning example for her cooking staff, as she confirmed that is not how this fish dish is normally prepared. She could tell we were apprehensive about complaining about the dish and quickly put us at ease. She was amazing and jumped into action as a manager and never made us feel bad. She was the epitome of grace and professionalism. This restaurant is big with plenty of seats indoors and outdoors (big patio.) Such a FUN vibe here! We will definitely return!

Ariana M.

Yelp
Great staff, excellent food, amazing prices! The ranch and honey mustard were incredible! The fried mushrooms, red fish dinner, blackened chicken sandwich, and sweet potato casserole were all so amazing! George will make sure you get that big O if you know what I'm saying!

Carolyn P.

Yelp
A return visit for us. This time sat in the big dinning area. Ask for the bar area, it has more charm. For starters Margaritas are good. Bread served good. I still ordered the small chicken fry but with mashed potatoes n gravy. You have to order corn , so very good Husband loved the Broccoli salad. They stay busy but service is good. We will continue coming when in town. I don't think you can go wrong and can find something good.

James E. K.

Yelp
Not sure what the big fuss is over this place. Had dinner at the bar earlier tonight. Mediocre service? A lot of activity with plenty of staff, but not really engaging anyone. I admit the blackened shrimp was good but very small portion of rice and broccoli. Bartender never asked if I wanted another glass of wine or try to upsell me... Dessert? Only in Waco for the night, but doubt I will go back.

Jennifer P.

Yelp
What more can I say besides one of my favorite places of all time? I have been coming here since college. The many different experiences/atmosphere George's provides has something for everyone. All of their food is great.

Bonnie A.

Yelp
Very fun place. Ate in the bar and watched all the people. Food was good, mostly fried options though. Not overpriced. The kids loved it! We were tourists, so had to take a pic with the mural!

Melanie F.

Yelp
Chicken fried steak was really good. The meatloaf was pretty good as well. There are multiple locations in Waco. We went to the one nearest to the highway.

Angie M.

Yelp
It has a fun atmosphere, very iconic local place to visit and good food as well. Will definitely be back

Karen G.

Yelp
We had the chicken fried steak and Double patty hamburger (forgot the name). George's special. Both were very good! Fun interior and clean.

Adam K.

Yelp
Liver and onions are fantastic! With a side of green beans and onion rings! A side of onion rings is a plate!

Stacy S.

Yelp
Great service and food. The menu had plenty of different options. Will stop here on my next trip thru Waco.

Andrew M.

Yelp
I've forgotten to take a photo for you, but there are many already attached to the restaurant's page. It was a solid dining experience. Nothing spectacular, but it was good food and service. It didn't change the game in any ways, and honestly, I'm not sure how much work was put into the flavor profiling of individual meals, but it's still good. Check it out.

Ron B.

Yelp
All was very good. And pet friendly service with my pet. Was great. My fish was perfect. And we are going back soon

John D.

Yelp
Great service on a game day Kayleigh took great care of us Super attentive and she kept the food and beers coming. We had a party of 15

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Well known for their Big O's , had a fantastic waitress that communicated very well. We had three children at our table she was very patient with them.

Jay A.

Yelp
Do not miss the iconic George's in Waco! Hang out at the "Table of Knowledge" in the original bar with a few "Big O"and one of the best jukeboxes in town. Burgers, chicken fried steak, etc. are all top notch and service is always good with some servers who've worked here for decades.

Andrea M.

Yelp
The mural on the side of the restaurant caught my eye and gave me a sense of deja vu that I'd been here before. I honestly can't remember, but I'm definitely coming back. We had two waitresses because the first one left, but both were very attentive and friendly. Since this is Texas, I opted for the chicken fried chicken, but did so with reluctance. Fortunately it wasn't nearly as big or as filling as I anticipated. I mean that in a good way because I was reluctant to order a heavy meal. It was very good and came with two sides. The broccoli rice casserole was great, but the mac and cheese was a little dry and somewhat lacking. Our second waitress brought us extra drinks in to go cups. Will eat here again on my next trip to Waco.

Curtis G.

Yelp
I had thought George's was fancier than it is (not an issue, just a surprise) - I had previously only had George's via catering. We sat in the bar section - this was definitely noisy (on a Saturday mid-afternoon). I was debating on whether to give two or three stars... * Our food was very tasty (for the food alone I would give four stars). I had the chicken fried steak - while it wasn't amazing, it was pretty good, and I would order it again. * The service was where things went south. Two of the (4) orders at our table had small things wrong with the order. Unfortunately, the fourth order was straight up lost. When we first (politely) asked, the response we got was "I just bring the food." After talking with multiple people, the issue was finally resolved. I plan to try them again, but will wait for a while...

Robert S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and food matched with service!! Really great jukebox! Explore the hidden treasures!!

Deidre H.

Yelp
Great place when we visit Waco. Our 1st time there we sat at the bar and last time was outside because we had our dog with us. We love the fried Jalapeños! All the other food we had was good too and decent prices. Service was okay - 1st had issues of getting to patio with dog stroller- but one of the waitresses helped me get down the stairs - then service was a bit slow - waited a while for items - but still good and we'll be back.

David S.

Yelp
Food great, great service and a very clean place!! Winner! My new go to breakfast spot. Sabrina, our server, was the best too! So nice to have a friendly place to relax and enjoy our meal.

Lacey P.

Yelp
We stopped here on our way driving home from a trip. My husband told me it was his favorite college hangout back in the day and it definitely didn't disappoint. The menu had a very big variety, but I knew as soon as I saw the Italian nachos I had to have them. They were amazing!! We actually both ordered them and then when they came out I realized we could have shared them. I was kind of proud of how much I ate. Ha! Service was great and if I'm driving through Waco again, I will stop there to eat!

Charles L.

Yelp
Great takeout (Uber delivery) breakfast this morning. I had the veggie omelette, with a side of ham. Extremely fresh tasting and good size omelette, and a large slice of ham. Accompanied by two good size, well-toasted pieces of rye. Also had a side of grits that came with the omelette. Reasonable price, great menu, and tasty food!

Carlyn H.

Yelp
I love this kind of food when I'm in the mood for it. This is a Waco staple and I appreciated the ambiance. It's like a classic family restaurant in a portion, sports bar in the other and then ample outdoor patio space. The servers were so kind and attentive. Only giving it a 4 for the salad, it was minimal iceberg lettuce with no other veggies. Overall though, the experience was great.

Mike R.

Yelp
I do not think it is possible to get a bad meal at George's. Today I had a burger, the Crybaby with jalapeños on jalapeño bun. It was delicious. I've never had a burger here before and definitely will be eating them more often. Daughter had the turkey club. She loved it. The fries and onion rings are always perfect! Fried pickles for appetizers are always great. Tried the George's O' Michelada. The mix is tasty. Why they put ice in it never makes sense. They also use bottle vs tap. The only way to properly serve it is in scooner of draft beer and NEVER ADD ICE! Great service from Josh as per usual with all the staff! You can't go wrong there!!!!

Megan G.

Yelp
Okay, so I wanted to give 5 stars but we had a minor hiccup. So, I went with 4 stars. The environment was cute, it gives off a college sports area/ family dining area vibe. The staff was good, very attentive, frequent visits to ask if we were okay. The only downfall and I don't blame him, it was his first day. But our server forgot to submit our ticket so.. every time he would come by to say "it's almost out" it really wasn't. So we waited 15-20 minutes until he realized he forgot. But, still great service nonetheless. The jalapeño cornbread was incredible!!! I highly recommend asking for extras. I had the cheese grits with shrimp, it was beautiful! I also had the broccoli rice casserole- so delicious. My husband had the steak finger lunch, I think he enjoyed it. Overall, super good! If we're ever in the area again.. we will be back!

Hayli C.

Yelp
Sat at the bar for drinks and appetizers the beer was honestly the best, super cold, perfectly dressed! The fried pickles were good but super greasy on bottom. Ranch was amazing! Nice little stop when killing some time.

JD M.

Yelp
I needed to wait out a storm before driving north up I-35. Found this place on Yelp. Wanted to sit at the bar and have a light meal and a whiskey. Unbeknownst to me, they have two bars, the larger one on the north end. I was at the smaller one in the middle room. Bartender was very friendly and as helpful as she could be, but she wasn't sure they had a Rye whisky. She engaged a manager and he went hunting for a Rye and came up empty handed. I inquired about the three bottles of Balcones on the shelf. I believe they are all bourbons, one was smokey, the other some odd sounding stuff and "Texas Pot Still" bourbon. I asked for that on the rocks. Turns out it is made of Blue corn, Texas wheat, Texas Rye and Malted Barley. Pretty good stuff considering. I ordered shrimp and grits. She asked if I wanted the mushrooms. Why not? If they think it's good enough to put it on the menu, I'm game. Turns out it was delicious. Liberal doses of Louisiana hot sauce and I was in business. The place has a college vibe, expected since Baylor is next door. Lots of families with their college kids in tow. I did walk into the larger bar area and that is probably the bar you want to aim for, except you would miss the bartender that waited on me. Overall it's solid.

Destiny H.

Yelp
Always a family favorite! The food is great and the ambiance is perfect for Saturday night or week day lunch. Sic'em Bears.

Grace M.

Yelp
Really yummy bear bites, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. All other food was Average, subpar service. Very busy! We asked for no mushrooms and thousand island for our salad and sandwich and got mushrooms and ranch. Their ranch is tasty but we asked specifically and we're not taken care of. We asked many times for more napkins and ended up getting ahold of the busser to bring us some.

Lesley L.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. Morgan was our server I don't know if she was just having a bad day but she didn't have the best attitude.

Sharon C.

Yelp
Our Baylor grandson said this is the place to go when you're in Baylor. There were 12 of us, so I got to see a lot of different dishes. Dan and I got the ever so popular chicken fried steak, which we liked. The strawberry salads with chicken looked delicious and healthy. The restaurant had a fun atmosphere. There was lots of activity and happy sounds. The service was excellent. There's lots of parking. When you're in Waco, you must visit George's.

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
Friendly, clean and delicious. It's definitely a must if you're in the mood for homemade food and desserts . The staff is amazing and friendly. Manager Raphael came by to greet us when he found out it was our first time trying their restaurant. What we had: Chicken fried chicken, meatloaf, grilled chicken with bacon, mushrooms and cheese. Sides were macaroni & cheese, broccoli cheese casserole, garlic mash potatoes and dirty rice. We cannot forget the onion rings omg yummy . They did not disappoint.. will definitely go again if we're ever in the area.

Renae R.

Yelp
Food was so good. Service was excellent. Has a bit of a wait but worth it in my opinion

Misty H.

Yelp
After a 90 minute wait we got seated. Can't wait!! The waitress was amazing. Very attentive even w how busy it was. The vibe was fun. Would definitely go back for a football game. The food was good bar food. I gave it a 5 due the the waitress and the great time. Definitely a must.

Linda F.

Yelp
Oh my goodness what portions! I couldn't possibly eat all they plated. I had the chicken fried steak, garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. My husband tried the local Waco beer the grilled shrimp broccoli rice and Mac n cheese. The restaurant is so clean and I loved that the tables are spaced so as each group is far apart to not hear each other speak. The service was great. I'm actually going to come back for the nephews chicken!

Shelly T.

Yelp
The shrimp smelled and tasted very very fishy. The onion rings were soggy as though they had just been re-heated in the microwave!!

Pui S.

Yelp
I came here on a recommendation from a friend who grew up in Waco. Ordered my food and 2 minutes later is was delivered to the table. I knew right then it wasn't cooked to order. It was barely Luke warm from sitting under the heat lamp. Damn steak was like a hockey puck. Took 4 bites and left. Save your money.
