What a gem! This charming hometown spot, open for over 50 years, was just what we needed. Everything was spotlessly clean, inside and out. We kept it simple for breakfast: two eggs, toast, and a side of ham off the bone. It was all perfectly cooked and wonderfully comforting. The service was great, and the value was excellent. We even got to chat with George, the owner, a truly friendly and charming man. If you're looking for that genuine old-time feel, you've got to try this place!

Grew up going to George's restaurant and moved away about 15 years ago. Was able to visit and the food is great, service was wonderful. Just as I remembered it.

I don’t go out to eat much but I am a server myself, watching the 1 server take orders and being personable with each guest deserves an applause. The food was amazing and smelled so good I couldn’t leave the parking lot without taking a bite, which I wasn’t disappointed. I ordered the breakfast tacos With no Sriracha, because the fresh jalapeños deserve the spotlight. I ordered this to go for lunch and I’ll be having the second half for dinner. I’ll definitely be back!

Went to this place for the first time. Greeted by the owner himself at the front. Very polite and kind. Server was very friendly. Food was great. Would definitely come back here again

Google
If you like great food , and great service here’s the place for you. I had asked for recommendations because I was stuck between their special ( I think a Caesar Wrap) and this platter right here . Never disappoints, the cinnamon toast was scrumptious let me just add real quick 👀!!!🔥✨ If you like a good lowkey restaurant with great food this is the spot . I also love the cappuccino tho I say it’s still okay to drink since this weather is crazy 🤯, in the summer I’d personally get the raspberry tea ✨.LOOK AT THE BOARD ON UR RIGHT WHEN ENTERING, they have a lot of good platters on their !

1st time customer and very pleasantly surprised. Everything was delicious. Enjoyed breakfast and ended up going home with some amazing split pea soup. Will def be returning.

Google
Fantastic place for brunch! The avocado toast was unique and awesome. It had a great sauce and like a corn salsa.

Google
Greeter could have taken us to our table instead of pointing to it with his chin. Wifes words. Service and food was great.

Yelp
If you've never been here please stop in! You won't be disappointed. We've been coming for a few years now and never disappointed. The food is great, had the cinnamon swirl teach toast with eggs and bacon. Hubby had chicken wrap with seasoned fries. He loves their fries! Seriously anything we've ever had here has been great! Service is great, always feel at home. George is there what seems to be everyday and watches over everyone. Many regulars like us are here as well. Atmosphere is simple but goes well with the overall feeling.

Yelp
George's is an amazing local family restaurant! It's our weekend choice for breakfast and they have an excellent selection. My go to is always one of their breakfast skillets that come with a choice of toast/muffin of the fluffiest pancakes. The servings are exceptionally large and could be shared as I've never joined the clean plate club. The servers are always prompt/friendly and attentive. Parking is plentiful, but don't be surprised to see a line out the door. Even with short wait, George's is worth the trip.

Yelp
I was craving some comfort food so I decided to get the country fried steak with pancakes and get an order of the biscuits and gravy. They are known for their biscuits and gravy and it did not disappoint. The biscuit was soft and the gravy flavorful. The country fried steak was tender and well seasoned. The pancakes were ok (not as fluffy as I'd like) so I'd probably get toast next time. Large portion sizes. Overall, everything was freshly made. I would definitely come back and possibly try something from the lunch menu because it looked like they fried their tater tots well. Service was great. The moment I sat, they asked if I needed coffee. Ambience is that old diner feel. Side note- you pay up front. I sat there for a bit thinking the waitress would process my payment.

Yelp
Food was not good , service was mediocre and ambiance is for old senior citizens would not return as its is a weird vibe inside

Yelp
Was looking for something with old school charm and George's hit the spot. The chicken noodle soup was steamy hot and packed with fresh ingredients. The hot Turkey sandwich was alright. Not the best, not the worst but it hit the spot. My tablemate ordered the Rueben and he was quite satisfied with his sandwich and crunchy seasoned fries. Service was prompt and friendly and I loved that they served Pepsi products, too!

Yelp
I've lived in the area for over 20 years and have always driven by George's saying I wanted to stop and check it out because I've always heard great things about this place. Today, I finally did. George's has a typical old timey/homey diner feel, it's a lot bigger than it looks from the outside but it's definitely a pretty old establishment which is fine with me. The menu is huge so there's something for everyone here. I opted for the breakfast tacos which were absolutely phenomenal. It came on corn tortillas which were double stacked, eggs, chorizo, pico de gallo, jalapeño, and was topped with sriracha. These tacos were SO GOOD that I ate one before remembering to snap a photo lol. The other two people in my party got the hash stack which they were very happy with. Portions are huge and the coffee isn't bad for diner coffee! Something that I really appreciate is breakfast places having breakfast sausage/bacon alternatives so I was really happy to see turkey bacon on the menu. I'm really glad I finally stopped by George's. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend you check this place out too.

Yelp
I haven't been to George's in years I'm not sure why because I've been missing out. I had the chicken skillet and it was amazing I loved it. The chicken was cooked so good next time 100% sure I'm gonna try their chicken salad because that chicken was amazing

Yelp
Great food, service, cozy, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely our go to place for delicious comfort food.

Larry L.

Yelp
Best breakfast around with great service. Celines is our favorite sever. Highly recommend!

David Jackie E.

Yelp
Ordered a sandwich on regular rye bread. The waitress who took our order didn't know that there was more than one kind of rye (marble) so my husband did not eat & we paid for 2 Patty melt meals. Talked to manager who sent me to head waitress, who made the server call us back & she said she would replace one sandwich if we wanted to come back. That was the straw that broke the camel's back, we haven't been back since.
google avatar

Yelp
Cooked to order correctly, quickly and served by a smiling professional during a fairly busy morning.
google avatar

Crystal R.

Yelp
Good food with a nice selection to choose from, great prices, great service, just a little hole in the wall family spot.

Larry L.

Yelp
Great food and fantastic service. One resturant that still makes southern biscuits and gravy that is great.

Jammie R.

Yelp
I went to Georges this morning for breakfast. The waitresses were awesome. They weren't busy and actually sat with me and had conversations because I was dining alone. They were very courteous and brought my food while it was still hot, which was also cooked to perfection. They constantly made sure I had plenty of hot coffee and even made sure the food was prepared correctly. They even asked what my choice of creamer was. I have been going there for lunch and breakfast for years and always had great service with great food. I will continue to go as long as they are open. Anytime you want good food and service in the area, give George's a try. You won't be disappointed!!!

Yelp
I heard through a friend about this restaurant and their homemade Biscuits and Gravy. OMG!!! this place did not disappoin. I tried their skillets and my wife had an omelette. Definitely good, great pancakes and amazing Biscuits and Gravy.

Alvin G.

Yelp
Our favorite breakfast restaurant all around, the cream of chicken and rice is the best I've tried anywhere, my wife is a little picky with how she likes her eggs cooked and she has never been disappointed, the pancakes are always fluffy and perfect every time and the service is always prompt and extremely friendly.

Yelp
We have been going to this family owned restaurant for years. It never disappoints. Friendly staff and ownership. Food is delicious and just right, just hits the spot. Not pretentious, nor over the top. Good home cooked meals. We look forward to our weekend breakfasts in small town Montgomery, in our booth in the window.

Shane M.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while but sometimes you just can't beat an old school diner. And this is one of the best around. They serve typical diner food, reasonable prices, very clean, very friendly.
google avatar

Linda V.

Yelp
Great family owned place. Varied menu, but known for their awesome breakfast! Waitstaff are attentive and food comes out promptly. My husband's dish came out with eggs scrambled instead of over-medium as ordered. The waitress spotted it right away and had it corrected without us mentioning it. Give your business here and keep these independents from disappearing.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
A little small town diner. Food was served cold. They remade it Waitress was very good and fixed it right away. The cook can't read. The bacon was to crispy. Fairly clean. Push carts all over the place Prices are good. Background music was off. TV was on in the corner, volume was low. Not busy for lunch on a Saturday. A breakfast lunch place. Not open for dinner.
google avatar

Shannon E.

Yelp
This is our go to restaurant for breakfast. Great family owned business with awesome food and very friendly staff. Anytime we have guests in town this is the place everyone requests. Highly recommend the pancakes and banana bread french toast but have NEVER had a bad meal. Give them a try!
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Love family owned diners! The patty melt was delicious with char flavor and tons of melty American cheese (the onions were slightly under cooked) squished between crispy, buttery, rye! Yum! The breakfast items looked amazing too and the menu is beyond huge. The service was not so great the waitress seemed preoccupied or distracted and I had to ask her for everything. Also soda only comes with 1 refill. The menu says that but I didn't read the menu when I asked for a soda and the waitress never said anything so I had $15 in soda?!?
google avatar

Julie E.

Yelp
Great place to eat- seems to be a favorite among the locals!I had the blt wrap with their homemade chips!

Earthling 0.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I always get the Biscuits and gravy half order which is super filling. I highly recommend getting the tea as well as a pot is provided. The staff is friendly and accommodating. This is one of my go to spots for breakfast!

Yelp
Georges is a typical "coffee clutch" restaurant. A clientele of locals with a common denominator involving a routine of habit and familiarity... basically a social event. If you like to be recognized by your waitress and looking for your coffee cup to be refilled to the point of insanity... George's may be for you! However, if you actually care about the quality and taste of your breakfast and prefer bacon that's not overcooked, brittle and tasteless with the consistency of cardboard, then think again. If your forced to slumber through your breakfast and your toast never arrives timely with your breakfast order...your not alone!

Yelp
I have found heaven again. My wife is west side Chicago and I am Cicero. We grew up and spent a lot of years eating in Greek owned restaurants. How can you tell it's Greek owned: you never feel cheated on potion size; they are the only ones on the planet who know how to make tasty chicken soup (all styles); and the 1000 Island salad dressing is made in house. We live in Oswego and do have a couple of good restaurants. I decided to expand my range and found George's. Been serving since 1970. We now have another alternative for a good meal. Want to catch them when they have stuffed cabbages for special. The restaurant is very clean and the service was outstanding. The care you expect from your server.
google avatar

Gracie D.

Yelp
My friends and I have been going here every Sunday for years now. The waitresses are amazing, Stacey and Donna are fabulous. The coffee runners are extremely attentive and you never have to wait for a refill. The food is great. The perfect diner to have just down the street!
google avatar

Maritere P.

Yelp
I started coming to George's a few months ago with my boyfriend, and every experience we've had there has been excellent! From the level of the food quality and the service, everything has been great. My favorites include the Monte Cristo, the Meat Lovers Skillet and my boyfriend loves the Biscuit and Gravy Skillet. It's a great place to find breakfast on a weekend morning!!!!
google avatar

Tim P.

Yelp
An ok option for breakfast. On the plus side, they have potato pancakes. On the minus side, the gravy in their biscuits and gravy is rather bland. If you're in the area, give them a try, but would not seek them out - at least for breakfast.

Marie K.

Yelp
George's is an excellent place to meet for breakfast! Love the friendly and welcoming atmosphere! Their food is awesome and their service is second to none. Stacy is our favorite server, she always has a smiling face and is a very hard worker. She is courteous, and professional.

Yelp
The King of Restaurants in deepest Oswego/Montgomery Illinois is Leno Silva's RIVERVIEW DINER (q.v. my Yelp here). We don't want to go anywhere else. 'cos it seems like we're "cheating" on Leno. As Variety is a life-spice, we were bound to stop at this older-looking boite for a meal. (it only took 17 years) They ensconced us in an auxiliary to the main dining room, with only one other person there. The waitress was bubbly (another one where "hon" was the preferred address). Coffee was ok, Diet Soda "throw" was ok. I ordered a Chorizo omelette with fresh Jalapeños. It was quite tasty and they must have left the seeds and ribs in the chile, 'cos it was HOT, which was GOOD. My Ma had another omlette which was...eh. Wife-Unit had pancakes which she described as..."eh". This place has been here for about 3 centuries, and I'm sure it has its regulars. It didn't suck, but there was nothing here to engender the urge to make a return visit. And that...
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
I sorta forgot about this gem... I recently was driving through town and made a mental note to stop back for a visit. I forgot what a great spot this is for good ole' home cooking. Their prices will leave you in a good mood. I just stopped in for biscuits and gravy and certainly plan a return visit soon. I'm an early riser, so 5:30 am isn't out of the question. Staff and owner are so welcoming too.

Jo F.

Yelp
We were not impressed at all when we tried this place for dinner. No one greeted us when we came in. There was no sign to seat yourself, but eventually we did. Apparently, we didn't fit in with the "regulars". So we were basically ignored. The service was awful. Our waitress kept forgetting about us and serving other guests. The food was mediocre, at best, Maybe it's better for breakfast, but we won't be returning to find out. When we went to pay before we left, the cashier just shook his head and rolled his eyes because we were using a debit card instead of cash (although the door had stickers for all forms of major credit cards). We had previously heard good things about this place. What a disappointment!
google avatar

Eddie O.

Yelp
Great service but the breakfast food was mediocre. Eggs I have to say we're cooked perfectly, sausage links were also done well. Hash browns were flavorless although they were grilled nicely. Pancakes were just plain bad, overcooked on one side then not cooked on the other. I got a side of sausage gravy to try and was glad I got it on the side, it was basically white paste with flavorless sausage, not good. It was our servers first day and after being left for a bit she made it up. Manager head server was also very nice. Coffee wad always full and nice people.

Becky N.

Yelp
Over priced food that's not that good. The place was very old and not updated! It smelled like old furniture and cigarettes! I ordered French toast with eggs and 2 slices o bacon. the bacon was old but the French toast was good but it was a very small portion. it was $9.49 then I ordered a kids meal for like $6 and it came with a huge ugly undercooked French toast and hard bacon that my child didn't event eat it! I told the waitress and she said I had some of the bacon earlier and it was okay! so yeah will not be back here. Coffee was gross too
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
Great friendly seat yourself restaurant. George keeps it clean and keeps the place updated. I only do breakfast but the wife says everything else is always good. Do I mention cheap. Good quality and low price.

Scott H.

Yelp
We live in southern Illinois near St. Louis but have family in this area. We're up here about every other month and George's has become a mandatory stop for us every trip. We always go for breakfast and the food is always great. This morning the tradition continued and it was perfect. We love the small town diner atmosphere and the staff is great. Keep up the great work and we'll see you again in about a month!

Yelp
You know, Montgomery is Oswego's way less attractive sibling. It must hurt to have to live in the shadows of the hipster paradise always hoping for the day when someone will notice that you have some good traits, though hard to find. That's where George's Restaurant comes in. George's is a classic small town diner that's been around for 40+ years in the dingy, sad area wistfully referred to as "Downtown Montgomery". After having driven by the place in search of a short cut to the coolness that is Oswego my wife and I decided to try it out. First the place is busy for its location but spotlessly clean. Your first hint that you may have struck it rich are the tables of senior citizens. This group won't pass up good food reasonably priced! I noticed that the big screen TV was set to CNN. Not that FOX would have affected the overall experience, but I like that George chose a less controversial channel for the breakfast crowd. The service was immediate and friendly with an excellent cup of diner coffee that would put Starbucks to shame. Add to that the fact that your cup never goes empty (did I mention they were busy?) and we have an excellent first impression. The next thing that hits you is the price. We were there for breakfast but every single option was a good dollar or two below what you'd expect to pay in fancy-schmancy Oswego. I asked for a sample of their country gravy and it was immediately bought out with a smile. Now I wish I could recommend the gravy but I can't, too plain tasting and while I could see chunks of meat I could not get a sausage taste (sorry George, that cost you the fifth star!). I opted instead for a basic eggs and sausage entree while my wife ordered the rIb-eye steak and eggs. Here is where George's shines. Our order was on the table in a matter of minutes, seriously, this place redefines "freaky fast". everything was cooked to order. Now when you order steak and eggs you almost have to expect that they will over cook your steak if you like things on the rare side. Not George! My wife's steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was huge. I mean hanging over the sides of the plate huge! Now this is a breakfast steak so it's not going to have the quality you'd expect in a dinner steak...but you'd be wrong in this case. As is the norm in a diner it was grilled on a flat top and imbued with great flavor. Yes, it was fatty but it was a rib-eye - not a lean piece of meat to begin with. The flavor was great. Oh. Did I mention that the rib-eye steak and eggs was $8.95 - with hash browns and toast? "Great value" is an understatement. And have a nice healthy day on your own time, the toast came out hot and buttered from a pot of melted butter-like substance. Freakin' diner heaven! Two full, made to order breakfasts with beverage came to just $19.00. Add to that the knowledge that you are supporting a local, long time, independent business and everything tastes just that much better. I will definitely be back to try the lunch and dinner entrees but I am pretty sure I just found my favorite local diner. Be proud Montgomery, Oswego doesn't have a place like George's Restaurant.
google avatar

Meg B.

Yelp
Been going to George's since I was in a high chair. RARELY a bad experience. Food is always delicious, cooked right and HOT. My only suggestion would be to not split a waitress between two rooms. We sat in the addition and our waitress was split between the main dining area and had two tables in the addition. Not sure why, seems pointless to be honest. Because of this we had to ask for a waitress and track her down to get our check. Those were the only times we saw her other than getting our food.
google avatar

Randall R.

Yelp
This is a perfect place to get the daily recommended requirement of food that will kill you. You'll both love and regret the breakfast skillets. Most are covered in that good 'merican cheese, that sort of melts and sort of just lays there. My rent car got a huge baseball-sized ding in the door while in the parking lot. I was so full, I didn't care.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
This is my kind of breakfast joint. The counter is full of old men drinking coffee, shootin' the shit, and complaining about stuff. The tables are filled with working people taking breakfast meetings. The decor is old school small town diner. The food is good, cheap, and fast. The pancakes are good. If you go to a breakfast place and they have bad pancakes just turn around. The eggs, bacon, and sausage was done excellent. I couldn't be happier with this as my go to breakfast joint. Don't expect the ritz, because this place is down to earth.
google avatar

Damon B.

Yelp
I've been going to George's for years. It's a locally owned and operator family style restaurant. The food is always delicious, and the staff is always friendly. We went the other day and I tried their burger for the first time. Out of all the items I've tried, I'd say this is the only one I wouldn't likely try again. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as many of their other items. My wife had a very good Rueben sandwich, and I got an order of biscuits and gravy. That's a must every time. The clientel is generally the older crowd that keeps coming back. There's something to be said for that! George's has been in the same location for over 40 years, and I hope it's around another 40!
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
Best breakfast in the Aurora/Montgomery/Oswego area, not to mention the best pancakes George's is an old fashioned "seat yourself diner." Not only is the food good, but the prices are excellent and the portions are very decent George's is a "regulars" type of restaurant, but the staff is very warm and friendly. Definitely a must try
google avatar

Rion R.

Yelp
As another Yelper posted I almost don't want to review this place to let the secret out. Went in for a Father's Day breakfast since every other breakfast place in the area had a wait or required reservations. No worries here, went right in and was seated right away. It took a little time to order and our waitress was frazzled by the crowd but none-the-less she was friendly all the way through. Food choices are great and it is difficult to spend $10 plus here on any option. Our group had a bit of everything all all of the plates were cleared. Corned beef skillet was great, banana pancakes awesome, smoked kielbasa done to perfection all for about $40. They could use some updating inside but it isn't necessary as it has that diner feel and plays to the senor crowd. Great place and a great fine. I'll be going here for breakfast from here on out.
google avatar

Stephan W.

Yelp
Great place to eat and easy on the wallet. Consistently good every time. Friendly staff and open for dinner on Friday night.
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
George's is a great breakfast place. We used to enjoy coming for dinner, but they changed their hours and are only open for dinner on Friday. We were disappointed when they changed hours. They have great food and decent service depending on who your waitress is. The breakfast ciabatta sandwich is my favorite, and they know what I want when I say "extra crispy" hash browns. Most places don't understand what I want. This is a great little family restaurant that we enjoy visiting!

Melissa S.

Yelp
i have be eating here for yrs!! It's old school dinner but the breakfast n service is always good

Yelp
This is by far one of the best places to go for a great breakfast or lunch, great owners know them personality, warm welcoming place to bring the whole family. Very good quality of food made perfect, been going to this resturant since I was a child and will continue. Highly reccomand.

Grizel Z.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! Best biscuits and gravy, but I wished they offered just one biscuit and gravy.
