My daughter is a student at UNE in Biddeford and when I go to her rugby matches, I always stop at George's for a Maine Italian. I live in Rhode Island and what a treat when I get home!! It is great nostalgia from my childhood days when we would get sandwiches in Maine or when my dad brought them home when had a delivery in Biddeford...thank you for being awesome George's!!

This is basically take out only. Good sandwiches, fast, and relatively cheap. Service was polite. The Good: My Italian tasted great and seemed quite fresh. Service was helpful in understanding what ingredients they normally use on sandwiches. Prices are pretty good. The Meh: Take out only. The bad: None.

If you haven't had a sub from George's, you don't know what you're missing...and once you do, you'll never want to go anywhere else. Friendly atmosphere, excellent staff who know their customers and most popular subs. Parking is good, and you can tell...George's does it right. What are you waiting for? Make a stop at George's, you won't regret it.

The owner is a very pleasant I come from Boston to get my sandwiches all the time I’ve been doing it for many years. I love the service and I love everything about it. Never had a problem. I recommend this if it took 12 hours to drive there.

Best Italians ever!!

Ordered 4 sandwiches. Order was NOT complicated. Idk how every sandwich was wrong and dry. Asked for extra mayo and oil, and practically none. Just disappointing. Will not go back. Veggies are hard. Doesn’t take fresh. Bread is hard. Hopefully just a bad day for them.

I've been here a few times and every time the food has been fresh, service is great, and the price is great. Highly recommend!!

First visit since new new owners took over. Everyone made a lot of effort to ensure the orders were correct. Store was busy between phone and pick up. Sandwiches were very good, old school like I remember. Bread and ingredients were fresh and at the right proportions for an easy to eat Italian. I love them the next day and we had a couple extra that did not disappoint! Will be back soon! Worth the drive.

Great place to stop for a real Maine Italian. I stopped during the lunch rush and placed an order, it was out within 5 minutes! The food quality is much better than any chain sub shops in the area, the bread tastes very fresh, and it's cheaper too. Good selection of Coke products as well as Humpty Dumpty potatoe chips. There is no indoor seating but it is located next to Shevenell Park that has some benches and tables.

Small storefront, very friendly reception as we entered on a Saturday near noon. Great chip offerings- lots to choose from. Subs, or Italians as they are called, are pretty basic- ham, turkey, salami, roast beef. You aren't going to find anything with "parm" in the name, nor a grilled option like steak and cheese. Very soft, fresh bread. Veggies were fresh, meat was sparse. Subs are built on a roll that is cut like a hot dog roll. The ingredients are sitting in the crevice at the top of the bread. I found the sandwich awkward to eat and it was short on flavor. The bread was the star of the sandwich. This is a take out place, no seating.

I rate this a 4.2. First, the bread to make the sandwich is very good and soft. Hats off to the bakery. Next, supposedly they don't do hot subs or toast. That's a deal breaker and separates the 4 stars from the 5 stars. You can't teach grit, someone had to say it. Workers were friendly and work fast. Lots of parking. Outside looks very sketchy but inside it's very welcoming. Chef knows how to tackle the meats. #YouRTheChosenOne

This place is absolutely spectacular! I just had my second Italian from George's. The bread is so extremely fresh and everything is piled on perfectly. They really care about what they're doing. The establishment is spotless and the people are so friendly. five stars you guys! thank you for my new favorite Italian shop!

This is the best place to get sandwiches. Do not bother to going anywhere else. I do wish they would get ovens to make sandwiches too.

Truly the best Maine Italians! George's is a hole in the wall sandwich shop that's been around for decades and not much sas changed. They make the best classic Italian - boiled ham, white American cheese, and the freshest / crisp / ripe vegetables that set this sandwich shop apart from the rest. Even their tomatoes are firm and flavorful. I always add banana peppers for an extra 50 cents. The classic Italian is ham, but you have the option to add salami or other meats. I chose both ham and salami which was delicious. I recommend at least doing doubling up on ham if you're choosing a single protein. If I could ask for anything more, it would be having the option to add jalapeños. Besides that, this place is a gem and will forever be on my Maine list. Bring cash!

A classic and a landmark. Classic Maine Italians fresher and faster than that chain restaurant. A true Maine treasurer. Don't forget the Utz and a Moxie!

The best old-school Italians around just like the old days. My only complaint is they're a little slow.

I ordered two sandwiches. One was made correctly but doused in oil. The olives were Greek and not black, they fell apart when eating. The one person I dealt with was nice enough except even when instructions were written down, couldn't follow them. The second sandwich pertains to the instructions written down. There were no tomatoes on the sandwich, the meat was little even when asking for double meat. The olives were Greek instead of black which is a noticeable difference. If you didn't have what I was asking for then tell me. When I pay over 20 for 2 sandwiches and give a 20% tip when the machine asks for one right after you pay, I expect my instructions followed and the sandwiches made correctly. I will not return due to poor service and sandwiches which should be less than what they are charging.

Best place around to grab a sandwich. I always go in for a Italian but when you walk in you can smell all the different foods and then you see what the people before you have ordered and that looks amazing. When I go in my favorite 3 items are the Italians, tuna subs and chicken salad. Always fresh always delicious. They only accept cash so they can keep their prices down

Fresh from the bread to the veggies- best Italian sandwich you can get! I eat there all the time, never had a bad experience.

This place is an institution. If you haven't been here, you are missing out. They do one thing, Italians. And they are absolute perfection. Veggies are not only perfectly sliced, but always fresh and made to order. The most popular is ham, loaded, salt pepper oil and olives. Honestly, getting it done any other way is just silly. I do get mine on a wheat roll which makes me feel a bit better about myself. These sandwiches are simple, they offer no frills (sauces, etc) but they don't need to and they know it. And that is because the ingredients speak for itself. They're now at $4.50. I miss the $3.75 days. But still a bargain. Cash only. Best Italians, ever.

These are good sandwiches. Wish you could get a proper Italian sub in a smaller size. If you go full Italian on the submarine size, it's a ton of meat, too much food, and much more pricey. Anyway, i liked my sandwich. The tomato slices were fresh.

We stopped in for the first time today and rediscovered the taste of an original Italian sandwich. The new owner and staff are attentive, friendly, and happy serving. The Italian sandwich is expertly made on a Botto's Italian roll, and all ingredients are fresh and tasty. They make undoubtedly the best Italian sandwich. Hands down.

George's makes fantastic italians. Unlike Amato's, customers don't have to wait for half an hour from the time they order to get the sandwiches. Bread is always fresh and sandwiches made right infront of you. Plus, it's a local establishment that adds to the local color of Biddeford. Go get your italians at George's. You won't regret it.

George's Italians are a dream. The minute you open up your sandwich, feast your eyes on a perfectly made Italian that is generously stuffed with items including tomatoes, pickles, green peppers, onions, olives, and cheese. Customers can choose between salami, turkey, ham, roast beef, genoa, or tuna for protein, or you can keep it a veggie sandwich! I highly suggest ordering the ham or the tuna. The tuna is packed with tuna and everything pairs so well, but the ham is also a delight. Oh, and the bread. The bread that they use is literally like a soft pillow from heaven. Just know that it is cash only and that they have an ATM inside! Definitely check out George's if you are in the Biddeford area!

I'm not a fan of Italian sandwiches unless they come from George's. Could it be their oil? Not really sure but it's is a perfectly balanced sandwich that isn't overly stuffed or overly seasoned with oil salt and pepper, it's just right! Do yourself a favor and pick some up for your family or a trip to the beach! You can thank me later!

George's still has the best Italians of any place. Freshest bread, lots of veggies etc. get the ham and cheese and you won't be disappointed. Big chip selection too! Great for taking down to the beach!

Just got a double roast beef today with my mom and we loved it! She got a regular roast beef and they were both things of beauty! If you come to Biddeford and you don't go to George's Sandwich Shop, you messed up! Great work!

Georges Sandwich Shop has amazing sandwiches. They are very consistent with making 1 or 10+. They are always full and over flowing with yumminess. If you love soft bread with wheat or white. I know they don't do hot sandwiches. But they do the cold subs amazingly well and you know your getting what you ordered. After time they have gotten to know my name. Another thing is my family and I like the same thing. So when I order I'm asked "How many?". It's always 1-3. Prices are great.

I've been a long time patron of Georges. Love the Italian sandwiches, they have been very fresh in the past, and decided to try them again with new ownership. So my wife and I picked up two italians on Saturday for lunch, and found one of them to have stale bread. It was an end roll to top it off.. Not sure what happened here, if it was stale from Botto's bakery, or was saved end rolls destined for some unlucky customer. The italians were purchased at noon, and eaten no more than 30 minutes later so should have been fresh. As for the content of the sandwiches, they were filled with tomatoes, ham, cheese, and veggies as expected. This experience was all about the bread , and as you know directly impacts the enjoyment of the italian. If you're gonna eat carbs, you want it to be "FRESH". This maybe just a one time bad experience, so we will give Georges another try...

The best Italian sandwiches around. Fresh vegetables and delicious bread. The place is immaculate and the people are nice. It is no wonder they have been in business for decades. Excellent food at a great price!

This is another one of Biddeford's, must try places! George's Italian are probably the best Italian sandwich I have ever had. All the ingredients always taste and look super fresh and all sandwiches are generously filled! Cash only!!!

The variety of snacks and drinks make a lunch easier. The subs have a unique, homemade taste that you just can't get anywhere else. Always remember to bring cash!

George's has been popular for over 60 years and it's because they found a good formula and have stuck to it. They make good sandwiches that aren't too expensive. The Italians are loaded with big pieces of tasty vegetables and meat. If you want more meat in your sandwich or there's a vegetable you don't like, they'll make the sandwich however you want. There's a list of ingredients so you can figure out what they're putting inside, but salt and pepper aren't on the list. I found my sandwich to be a little salty because I didn't know they were going to add salt. Now I know and I'll be back to George's soon. Next time, more meat and no salt. And I learned the hard way that they're closed on Mondays. Now you know.

The absolute best Italian sandwiches in the north East Its been my favorite for 20 years or so. I don't know how they do it! there is just something so fresh, so good! about the way they make a sandwich.

What can I say about George's? This place is a Biddeford staple. If you're looking for a true Italian sammie, you need to go here. Yes, you can get Italians from many places, but you'll never get an Italian the way George's makes them. I've been coming here since I moved to Maine about 5 years ago, even after I moved to Portland. I try to check them out whenever I'm in town. I was in town today and bought a sandwich even though I wasn't hungry. I bought it to have for lunch tomorrow LOL! They are that good. It's the same staff who have been working there forever, and they definitely have a good thing going, they are like a well oiled machine (no pun intended). The ingredients are fresh, the sandwiches are made so beautifully, when you open your sub it's like looking at perfection. The vegetables are fresh and crisp, the meat and cheese are excellent, the bread is soft and delicious...it's just perfect. Two tips: CASH ONLY, and they are closed on Mondays. Otherwise, get on over there and check this place out! You won't be sorry.

George's makes one of the best, if not the best, Italian I've tasted. They are cash only, but also now have an ATM on site. I love their bread (I think it might be Botto's, but that's a guess). It's nice and soft, and their meat and veggies are also delicious. George's also has a limited drink, chip, and treat selection. If you want a delicious sandwich, stop here.

I hate cold sandwiches, I hate raw onions and peppers, and I hate when cheese isn't melted. That being said, I LOVE George's Sandwich Shop. It's so fresh tasting and delicious that it's impossible not to love it. I get the ham and salami with everything but the olives and pickles. Fair warning, these subs are huge. I eat the whole thing with no regrets, though. It is cash only, but the prices are pretty darn good.

Good standard Italians, its cash only which helps keep the prices lower. The bread is good, we tried wheat, and the sandwiches are packed full of veggies. Pretty good for a quick sandwich stop on the way through.

Growing up with the almighty Philadelphia hoagie, I have had to adjust to the Portland-style Italian sandwich. In general, I am not a fan - the rolls are usually subpar, and the whole olive and green pepper thing reminds me of Subway. There are, however, a few that I have found enjoyable. Of these, George's reigns supreme. Though the style of roll is the same - squishy and a bit bland - the rolls seems just a little fresher and more flavorful. The cold cuts seem a cut above others I have had on an Italian sandwich, especially the turkey. The sandwiches are well put together, so they don't fall apart or congeal into a paste-like texture midway through. And the price is really fair. I think my favorite aspect is the feel of the joint. It's clearly been there for years, unchanged and unaffected by interior design trends. It retains it's character, and feels like walking into 1977. That's not always a bad thing.

George's has been making Italians the same way for over 50 years. I work with people who grew up in Biddeford and they say that it still looks the way they remember it being when they were kids. In this day and age that may not always be perceived as a good thing. But, I can tell you, for George's, it's been a recipe for success. In addition to that, I think what has George's be such a local stand-by is that they keep things simple. If you want perhaps the best Italians in the area, this is the place to go to. I like the fact that they only accept cash, and that their Ham or Salami Italians are only $3.30!! The bread is excellent and the veggies are cut thick and fresh. I've actually only had the salami or ham italians here (may times over), but that's why I come. However they also have other sandwiches on their menu, which look good too. On a final note, one of the things that always impresses me about George's is their neatness and cleanliness. For the lunchtime rush they arrange their most common sandwiches in a partially pre-made state and cover them in wax paper. When you order they slide yours out, add the toppings you wish (go for the works, salt, pepper and oil) and wrap it up. All in about 30 seconds. I walk the half-block to my apartment and enjoy my lunch at home.

A good sandwich is all about the bread...this place has the best. Load it up with oil, and salt & pepper.

Take out only, cash only. I got a Genoa and provolone with no onions, no olives, SPO. It was very good! Fresh bread, fresh veggies, made quickly. Plenty of off street parking. I would highly recommend this place. Weird thing, I'm not sure how I didn't know this was here until today and I've lived in the area (for a while, less than a mile away) and never knew of its existence.

The only place I go for an Italian or a tuna with extra pickles, extra olives, cheese, onions and pepper! Omg so goooood! The people here are great and they remember you.

Now, if you go to Wikipedia and type in "Italian sandwich", then you will read that they were invented in Portland, Maine, by a baker named Amato, and even give you a year: 1903. Now, I am not disputing these facts, and clearly it is not apocryphal; just look at the chain of Amato's sub shops running up and down the southern Maine stretch of old Route 1. What I find hard to believe is that the Italian, that multibillion-dollar income generator for the world's largest fast food chain (i.e. Subway), had only one historical origin. Tell that to the folks at Virgilio's in Gloucester, MA, or the innumerable purveyors of Italians, subs, grinders, spuckies, hoagies, heroes, "wedges", etc ad libitum up and down the Italo-American Eastern coastways! So what's up with the history lesson? It is my hunch that if you want to visit a Dinosaur version of the Ur-Italian sandwich, if you want to eat the coelacanth amongst the thousands of varieties of Italians, than you cannot probably get more echt than paying a visit to George's subs in downtown Biddeford. Tucked away on a side street, this joint truly looks like it has not changed, well not since 1903, but since 1953. Whenever I drop in, which is rarely since I like my Italian toasted, the scene is always the same. Two ladies behind the rear counter, with mounds of freshly-cut tomatoes behind them, prepping subs for sale over the lunch crowd, which begins essentially when they open at 9 AM since you got here working-class customers. In front of that rear counter, piles of freshly-made subs waiting to be sold to regulars who want the simple Italian. So, I'm not sure if this is a Mainer thing, but you never just order an "Italian sandwich" like you would down in Massachusetts; here you got your Ham Italians and your Genoa Italians and your Turkey Italians and your Roast Beef Italians and profane mixes thereof. Which can be confusing, because to my MA-trained ear, an Italian is a mix of Italian cold cuts, while a Roast Beef Sub is, well you get the picture.... So, here are your options for toppings: sliced tomatoes, crisp, very fresh green peppers, pickle spears, minced onions, and olives if you want 'em. You can go for "SPO", my way with salt-pepper-oil, or ask for Mayo if you wish. Oh, and they have sliced cheese of course; Provolone add two bits to the cost. Some will find this boring. It is not pretentious, it is not gourmand, it is the Ur-Italian!! But every now and then, especially for a beach sub when you don't want to down a lead brick, the perfect thing!!! So, consistently voted the best sub in the Biddeford-Saco-OOB area? Dunno. I have only sampled a minority of the sub shops around here. Like I said, I like my Italians toasted, and so I go to Saco House of Pizza where the toasting is perfectly done. But no doubt, this is one of the freshest subs you are gonna get. At this point, it is pointless to try to steer people away from Subway, so I am not going to go there. But Subway fans, give George's a try!! Oh, and they only take cash!!
