What Is a Butter Crock and How Do You Use It? | Eater

"The author, Rai Mincey, cites a personal favorite from a small pottery as “it’s dainty, chic, and available in an assortment of patterns to match your vibe.” She emphasizes that the butter keepers are “handmade and glazed individually, so you’ll have a uniquely appealing piece of art to place alongside your recipe box or utensil holder.” Framed as both practical and decorative, these crocks use the classic lid-with-a-well + water-holding base design that preserves butter at room temperature in a perpetual state of spreadability, and are presented as a countertop style statement for kitchens that value functionality and small moments of ceremony. For more handmade options, the author recommends Etsy, calling it “a goldmine of ceramicists making crocks so beautiful they double as decor.”" - Rai Mincey

July 29, 2025 - Been here many times over the last 30 years ! This is the original location by the owner who started Georgetown Pottery Company in Maine , in 1972. We stopped a couple of years ago and met the owner. Very nice person, shared “ his story” about the founding of his ceramics company. If you’re looking for seashore themed pieces for your home , we did . . . Soup dispenser, candle sticks, and kitchen utensil there’s a wide collection!

The “seconds” tide clock just arrived. It’s gorgeous!! Minimal imperfections unless looking closely. My husband thinks it’s one of the coolest gifts I’ve ever given him. Thanks for brightening our week!

I found their website by accident searching for Georgetown, TX. I was impressed with their site and reviews. I ordered a couple mugs and they are gorgeous. I wondered if they would look as cool as the pictures, and they look amazing! I called the lady at the store to ask a few questions and she was very sweet. I feel fortunate to find this shop because it's not so easy to find such beautiful pottery. I visited a few local shops around central Texas and didn't see glazes like the ones they are using. I did see some other glazes which were very cool, but I prefer some of the colors they carry. Thank you!!

Such a beautiful place filled with gorgeous hand-made art! It can feel intimidating because there’s so much to look at, but I make a point to go every time I’m in Georgetown. The tide clock, spoon rest, and mugs are my favorite so far. In addition to pottery, they have local art, greeting cards, etc.

Please do not buy their sale products. I ones I received are noting look like their website pictures and description" it is hard to find imperfection" Customer service is poor and rude. I am very disappointed how they handle their sales and continuing to post pictures and description on their web that is far away from the real products that I received .

Lots of pottery, beautiful artwork on them. However, this place is not wheelchair accessible.

The order was shipped promptly. More importantly, the Ikebana "seconds" I ordered are gorgeous - and flawless (to my and my husband's eyes). I will certainly order again, when I need to find a special gift.
