Gerald's Donuts

I just left this location, and I have to say—it was the most underwhelming experience I’ve ever had here. Before I get into today’s visit, I want to say that the only reason I gave two stars is because the donuts are genuinely good, and I’ve never had an issue with them. That said, today was my first—and definitely last—time trying their prepared food. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which was listed for $15.99. Based on the photo on the menu, I expected a thick, fluffy waffle and three chicken wings. What I actually received was one flat waffle and a small, overcooked chicken breast. The waffle was mediocre at best, and the chicken was so dry and rubbery it was inedible. After just a few bites, I found myself in the bathroom throwing up because the chicken was so tough it got stuck in my throat—it literally wouldn’t break down. When I told my server about the poor quality of the food and my overall experience, I got a simple “oh, I’m sorry” and then the full bill. I paid it and still left an 18% tip, because none of this was the server’s fault. But if the owner reads this—whoever was in the kitchen today should not be cooking. That was a disgrace of a meal, especially for the price. I’ll keep coming back for the donuts, but never again for any prepared food. I left hungry, disappointed, and $20 poorer. Gotta love it!

Terrible customer service my mother in law wanted some fresh donuts we arrived there was just this girl with a white apron it was me my wife mother in law and father in law, we enter she didn’t welcome us or said anything from the kitchen window she gave us the look she was upset we arrived, she didn’t said a single word to us, not even offer to take an order for us, we sat on the tables and waited for 5 minutes and nothing the girl came out the kitchen sat down and ate a plate of food while being on her phone! She just look at us as we left without even offering to take order or said at least thank you for just coming! I’m not sure if she was tired, overwhelm or what but at least she could said at least welcome, or offer to sell us donuts already made in the front glass!

The donuts might taste good and they might not. My chocolate iced cake donut tasted not particularly as I envisioned. Someone else might see otherwise but oh well.

Went to grab donuts and they were not done all the way. Not able to eat, they were stringy, and slightly doughy. I had this issue at the Gerald's in Arabi. I added a pic with what a donut is supposed to look like and then what mine looked like this morning. Got a glazed twist, cause it's the only donut I eat, and this is not how they are supposed to look.

The food was great and the prices were very good. Small inside eating area 2/3 people pre table. Best when ordering breakfast, hot donuts made there every morning.

We visit Gerald’s Arabi often on weekend. It took a while but there is a “A” team there every time we go. Brittany, Lexi and Alesia make the visit personable. Always smiling, professional and they know their customers.

Garbage service. Just go to Arabi. LAZY employees here and we were shorted on what we bought. Chalmette location, good customer service should NOT be THAT DIFFICULT... This is not the first time either. It's the last time for us. I strongly do not recommend anyone going here. (Unless you don't mind paying more for less, and receiving no help for it)

I was looking for a breakfast place and stopped here basically as a coincidence. Small and cute little place with fantastic food. Portions are pretty good for the price. Very friendly staff as well. I had the shrimp omelette and I have 0 complaints.

To start with the mini burgers had little to no meat but flavor of everything else was alright. The hot shot was good nice spice, good amount of meat and same toppings as mini burger. The KICKIN CHICKEN was very good chicken was juicy, tender, but still crunchy from the breading. The onion rings were very bready which some people aren't a fan of instead of the typical light, airy breading. The DONUTS are absolutely the star of the show here. Come out fresh, warm ooey gooey best donuts in da parish. Service was amazing quick, very attentive. Ambience is just any typical diner and open 24/7.

This place has been on my list for a while now. We stopped in for a quick breakfast and totally forgot to order a doughnut! We ordered the egg platter that came with eggs, choice of meat, choice of bread and side choice. I went with sausage patty, grits and a biscuit. I just recently found out that my daughter is allergic to egg so they cooked the egg on a shortage pan and placed on a separate plate for me. It's a great spot for a quick meal at a reasonable price.

Bugs on the donuts! Bugs on the donuts! Oh my god I'm disgusted, lady said sorry there's nothing she can do about it, then proceeds to serve the buggy donuts to a couple of children! But c'mon man BUGS ON THE DONUTS! BUGS IN THE DONUT CABINET! DIFFERENT KINDS OF BUGS NOT JUST ONE KIND!

It was a good experience. People were nice and they had some good options for lunch and staff was super friendly. Good Dounuts!

Really Fresh doughnuts. I ordered glazed doughnuts holes, regular glazed doughnuts, chocolate iced doughnut, and Bavarian cream chocolate iced doughnut. The service here is quick and very staff were friendly. Also tried the burger and didn't enjoy the texture of the beef. The onion rings were seasoned well. I highly recommend you try all the doughnuts.

HORRIBLE customer service during early morning hours when donuts are "hot". I've been multiple times around the same time and only ONCE was someone pleasant with me.

I walked into Gerald's (chalmette) I ordered the down the road platter no gravy on the biscuits Woman at counter says my chef won't make it if it doesn't have the gravy I asked customers choice right ? She says you know how ppl are in this area No ma'am I have no clue.... I said the gravy goes on last anyway Just don't add it She says I sell you an egg platter and add meat and biscuits I said no Just give me what I ordered but keep the gravy After some back and forth About the money I'm spending I finally had enough and so I said ok I left I drove to Gerald's in arabi Ordered the same thing and was served immediately I also asked if that's standard practice to argue with customers about what not to add to their food... So if you're in St. Bernard parish and want something to eat go to Gerald's unless u want it custom then go to Gerald's in arabi The attitudes are better

Great mini burgers! Donuts are on point too! I use to hate on them but they got way better!

Two words, come early! Before Covid, you were able to get any kind of donut you wanted no matter what time of day it was. 2pm or 2am, rain or shine, they've got it. Today, you're lucky if they have anything else on their shelves besides glazed donuts. Don't get me wrong, I love their glazed donuts but once you've had their glazed Bavarian Cream donut you DO NOT want anything else. Okay, that (glazed cream) and their hotshots. Do not sleep on their hotshots if you like hot sausage patties! They're normally dressed with mustard and pickles but I'm thinking of adding Cheese to my order next time!

Note: This review is from the 2020 pandemic and may not reflect the normal experience. As part of the state's Covid-19 response, I have been temporarily reassigned and put on night shift. This becomes problematic on my nights off as I get hungry around midnight, but pretty much everything is closed. Gerald's to the rescue! After a brief interval, both Gerald's locations have resumed their normal 24-hour schedules. Hooray! On this trip I got their kickin' chicken sandwich. When I called around 8:30 p.m. - at the time, I wasn't sure if both locations were 24-hours or not - they told me there would be about an hour wait. Considering that I wasn't actually hungry yet, that was fine by me. After the hour was up I hopped in my car and drove over. Went through the drive-thru and my food was ready with no issues. From the name to the construction, the sandwich was obviously a response to the infamous Popeye's chicken sandwich. That said, it was a good sandwich. It had sizable pieces of chicken, and a sauce that had a nice balance of sweet and heat. The bread was a bit soggy and the chicken a smidge dry, but I strongly suspect that was a result of the circumstances, which I hardly hold against them. Good food, good sweet treats, and late night hours; I think Gerald's is going to become a go-to for me. #YelpLove

I'm not sure what is going on with Geralds donuts on E. Judge Perez Dr. the service has been going down last night September 23 at about 1 AM in the morning went there for breakfast I had to ask for silverware placement order and did not see the waitress until it was time to pay the bill which I weighed it for her to come bye and asked me if everything was OK granite she was fooling with the donuts which was right next-door to my table in and some other loud customers in the restaurant which they did not do anything about their language when she did come text me about mine order I told her it wasn't the greatest I paid the bill and left to my understanding they still don't have the Wi-Fi pass code to use in their restaurant

This place was horrible. The donuts or not consistent. I purchased the donuts twice in one week, they were not the same. I ordered a bear claw that looked like a mini Little Debbie's donut and it was awful. I tasted like fried bread dripped I'm cooking oil. I do nit recommend this place. Furthermore, one of the cooks appeared from the back, sat outside covered in flour, and smoked a cigarette! yuck!! I wish I had taken pictures. It caught me off guard, the little bear claw, the worker outside smoking and the nasty kitchen which could be seen through a window from the dining bar. Their donuts are doughy, dry and tasteless.

Met my friends at Gerald's this Wednesday for breakfast. I ate a cinnamon roll. It was gigantic! Omg! It was soooo good! My friends all enjoyed their choices as well. I asked the waitress if she had any chocolate covered cake donuts because I've gone through the drive thru numerous times and they said they didn't make them anymore. My sweet waitress said she had some cake donuts and would be happy to dip them in chocolate for me. Of course I said yes! Later that night I had one for a snack. Lots of people love Gerald's donuts but don't forget those cinnamon rolls!

chalmette location have the worst service everrrr. sat in the line for an hour and a half 215-345 just for them to say 10 more min. i explained my frustration to the lady and she had no care in the world. this is the worst. i asked to speak to the manager and nothing. I've blown my horn 3 times and they are just standing there arabi location and service is awesome but the chalmette location is horrible. i would never go back to the chalmette location the service is so disgusting.

It's very sad I went to Gerald's donuts tonight on October 15th 2023 we were in general's eating and a guy came in about an hour after we were there while we're eating he went out and got into my van and rummaged through all my things when Mr Kurt came in to read and look at the video cameras while the police were there he came out and said to me in front of the police that no one got into my van which which I believe he was actually lying with the look on his face he must have known the guy that got into my van however I don't know why he's lying about the guy and saying that he didn't get in my van I know he did he was the only person there the only other customer there but it's cool I won't be eating at Gerald's since the guy came out wanting to fight and threaten me with a knife won't be eating there anymore and since they want to lie and say he didn't get in my van on camera when I know damn good well he did just goes to show you if somebody knows you and you do something wrong they will sure definitely protect you even when you're wrong that guy was wrong getting in my van stealing my stuff but it didn't matter to Gerald's donuts beware beware people this is what happens at Gerald's donuts in chalmette on camera.

BEST DONUTS IN THE PARISH!!!! I try to go whenever I have time in the morning and I always buy extra for coworkers. Everyone always says it's the freshest donuts they've ever tasted. This is a family business which makes this place sparkle even more. When you walk in you see regulars. It's this place where people make it a part of their routine to go to every week! They are open 24hrs so it's nice when you are hungry in the middle of the night.

This place just won me and my girls over for sure! The food is diner type food. The doughtnuts is where it's at though!! The service was great and I believe today we met the owners mother who was just a literal gem! She was so nice to us and not being from here told us all kinds of different things about chalmette. It's just a welcoming place to try!

Donuts are always soft and fresh, even late into the night. Wish we could always have hot ones, but naturally that's the worms for the early birds in the morning time. Nonetheless, consistently soft and delicious at any hour and there is always a down-to-earth lady who takes our order via the drive thru, calls us "my baby" and reminds us to be safe. I'm sure they have lots of other good menu items but bc we always end up here at night for some reason, we get the most available choice - a dozen glazed - and that always gets us right. So happy to have a 24hr joint further down in the parish.

Best hot donuts in the Parish as well as breakfast specials. Lunches are also great. I recommend you try the fresh made onion rings

I brought some clients out to Hopedale Fishing Marina and as I drove back to the city(New Orleans) I was looking for a breakfast place I Googled several and Gerald's popped up just as I was nearing it, so I went in. As I walked in I spoke with a hearty GOOD MORNING, no respond just stares. Anyway I sat down to the counter and spoke with server and ordered my breakfast starting with coffee. I was served coffee in a styrofoam cup with a plastic spoon, ok I was cool with that but as I looked around the restaurant I noticed everyone else we're served with coffee mugs and mostly silverware spoons. My food was served up and again plastic utensils wrapped in plastic as I was eating another order of food was brought out and one server stated, give them silverware. When I asked why did everyone else have coffee mugs and silverware the response was oh all my regulars ask for plastic mind you now this was my first time ever in this place. Yes I am a black man and this occurred in St. Bernard Parish. Not good at all. Still left a tip. Nope won't be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased a few donuts and I was eating my donut while driving and suddenly I saw something inside of the donut. It was what looked to be a public hair. Wish I had only taken a picture. Went back there and told them I wanted my money back. They said the manager wasn't there and that they would take my name and phone number so the manager could give me a refund. A month later and I still have yet to hear from them. Called today, they said "the manager had to look at the cameras that day to see what really happened" I'll tell you what happened! There was a pubic hair in my donut! Terrible customer service. I told them to forget and I'll take the $6 loss since it's so much trouble and they probably will lie and say that I got refunded when I didn't! Whatever. No more Gerald's for me.

Worked 3 shifts, manager cant stand when a new employee asks the right questions, (maybe for the simple fact I was outshining her work ethics) to learn the geralds way, and the regulars seem to be the cheifs of the resturant coaching the beginners to do the wrong things and will go above and beyond for yur attention no matter ho nicely you ask them not to just out of their own entertainment. Only took 3 nights to know that even paid 2.00 plus tips as a server and 15 an hr as a cook could never be enough pay to deal with the torment I experienced and watched as others struggled and was afraid for their jobs just tk use the restroom because they work with the click to communicates to the manager under cover to do the dirty work that supposed to be the one who runs the show's job. Reason they always hiring, and have the reputation they recently have the last few months prior to my experience. From the inside and out I know now to stay away from there. I was even harassed after quitting being discrimminated for the color pants I wore and shoes I had as a excuse to be harassed ater the fact I quit. Thank you for your time is an insult to their manager so heads up, they dont appreciate kind manners. Attached photos was what I would share but I am not going to bash the rest of the team as they work so hard and have mad respect for one another, atleast the ones who dont lokk at themselves as above everyone else, Im sure theowners would be disappointed in her actions, and hopefully they dont do this with every new employee, or maybe because I am intemidating being I could do a much better job keeping the T in team and leaving out the click issue against one another. Aside this gossip they have a good thing going but its ashame talent is wasted Good luck and farwell

Excellent donuts and burgers. Richie and staff are wonderful people. We always stop in when we are headed down to our camp in hopedale.

Need to stick with Donuts. That was one of the worst burger I have ever had. Why would you add bread crumbs to the meat. Made it dry and heavy. I paid an extra .50 for mushrooms that were canned. Took over an hour to get our food during lunch time caused me to be late for an appointment. They have 3 video poker machines that you could not get on because employees were playing all 3. That's probably why the food took N hour. I will say that the donuts were very good but the rest of it was awful. Service was also awful. I will never go back.

Food is always great and very cheap. Staff is always friendly and doughnuts are always well made. They serve a HUGE doughnut called the texas doughnut for only a dollar which is around the size of 3 normal sized doughnuts.

I ordered a very simple breakfast from the list of sides. I had egg whites, sausage patty, raisin bread and a dozen donut holes. The breakfast food was delicious and the donut holes were extremely fresh. I ordered through DoorDash and order was delayed getting to me due to weather and traffic. I microwaved the food and it was still just as it should have been. A test that the food was fresh. I will definitely eat from here again.

Cheap and cheerful, Gerald's Donuts serves breakfast specials, (two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns or grits, and toast), for $2.99, and the donuts and pastries are excellent. They also serve lunch and dinners. P.S. They honor National Donut Day, too, and I got a free glazed donut and coffee, after breakfast. Cheers!

Hott Sizzling melt in your mouth Glaze Donuts. You guys from 5pm-9pm. Gerald's serve Hot butter crispy donuts made to order 5 minute wait. Staff very nice. No complaints over here!!

I've been going to Gerald's for a few years now. This morning consisted of 2 glazed donuts on my way to grab coffee. Kept it simple and sweet. The ladies are usually always very pleasant and helpful. Lately in my opinion the donuts seem a little off at times. Like there is possibly a new person in house but, they're still really good and priced to sell! They recently did some renovating and added a nice outdoor seating area. Breakfast with family. Coffee with friends. Cool spot. I've grabbed lunch and dinner myself before so either way you're good to go. By the way they're 24 hours. So if you're ever in the Parish it's definitely worth stopping by. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I literally watched a girl work the window wearing a glove on her right hand.....in the same scenario she used the same glove to serve donuts to customers out in their cars, used the same gloves hand to handle money, fix her hair, and serve customers inside without changing gloves. Very sanitary. I've never had complaints at this location. But that incident was not cool.

Foods really good menu ok not a gang of choices but the ones they do have are good. Ordered fried chicken which was good arrived at the table hot. Donuts fresh mixed sized reasonable priced. Coco colas came cold styrofoam cup plenty of ice. Ordered hot sausage type castle burgers, they were cold even though it took those the longest to arrive to the table and the bread tasted stale. I ate the meat threw the rest away staff noticed and ordered to comp that part of the meal I told her never mind and I paid the bill in full. Waitress came by several times to make sure we were ok, 4 at the table. Although it's good, clean, value priced, the seating is limited and the service can be a tad slow.

Terrible service, gross building inside, gross food, just gross. You'll catch hepatitis before you catch Covid here

Love it ! Food is great waitresses are wonderful. One of the best places to eat around chalmette. Donuts are better than any other donut place around the New Orleans area. Definitely stop by if your from out of town!!!

Due to Covid striking a family member outside of my household, Thanksgiving dinner plans were canceled at the last minute. My household and I appreciated that Gerald's was open for a Thanksgiving breakfast so that we could do something together in celebration of the holiday. The food was great, and the service was excellent! I also love that they closed midday to give their employees an opportunity to spend time with their families. That's awesome!

Sadly had to walk out of the place because the staff was coming lately lost. Small place with few tables. They should have never been in the weeds like that. This actually has happened twice now. Food was marginal

Didn't even get to eat at this place. Sat down at the bar area, wasn't greeted or even looked at. 5 min later they took the order for the person who sat down after us at the bar. We just got up and left. Disappointed because the cinnamon rolls looked so good.

This place USED to be my husband's and my favorite spot to have nice place to eat dinner on a decent budget but recently this place has gone down the tubes as far as everything is concerned. My husband tried to order a six piece fried chicken strips and our waitress told us the cook was thawing the chicken strips and we had to wait. My husband said that's fine and we waited then our waitress comes back with our drinks and tells us that the cook refuses to cook them. So my husband proceeds to order their bacon burger called the squealer and his came out fine. Mine had to be sent back 4 times due to orders weren't correct and lack of specific ingredients. The worst part was when we got our receipt we were charged $10 for 4 drinks and we didn't order that much drinks. Charging 2 people over $40 for something that used to be at least $20 unreal!!! Btw guys u just lost 2 of your regular customers!!

This is a great place for breakfast but i do not recommend the food for lunch or dinner. I ordered a roast beef po-boy with mayo and lettuce. The sandwich arrived dry with no mayo and no gravy. I complained to the waitress and she said she would take care of it. I waited and waited and finally had to bring my plate of food to the bar and confronted the waitress again. Finally i received packets of mayo and a bowl of gravy. Everyone at my table was half way finished before i received my food. It was not a good sandwich and the bread was not a good French bread. The service was not good and the vending machine guy set up on the next table and his change machine was very loud next to us. We had to wait until he finished with all of his change to continue our conversation. I would go back to Geralds but only at breakfast time.

Waitress was nice. Only one other customer on there. Waited 20 minutes for eggs , grits and a biscuit. Gave up cancelled the order and left. Guy in the kitchen wouldn't even answer the waitress when she ask how much longer on my food.

Stopped in for lunch and should have realized it was the lunch hour and the place was deserted. It didn't don't get much better from there unfortunately. The burger when it finally arrived was devoid of flavor and served on a cold bun. The onion rings were okay but lacked flavor as well. One of the waitresses left and I saw her go across the street to another restaurant and return with food for the people working, and she did it quicker than I got my food as well. I was the sole customer the entire time I was there and left wishing I'd went across the street to. Maybe if I'd asked she could have picked me up something as well. The waitress that took care of me was nice and the only reason I'd give the place the rating as high as I did.

One of my co-workers that lives in Chalmette regularly brings in donuts from Gerald's. They are fantastic. But what really sold me on Gerald's is their king cake! I attended the king cake festival in New Orleans this past weekend, and the cream cheese stuffed king cake from Gerald's was my favorite one out there...and I tried about 15.

If I can give this place no stars at all I would both locations are horrible they don't want to work the food is horrible it does not come out right no one wants to be bothered last night I went and ate there the customer got into with the lady behind the counter because the food was so horrible I didn't sit at the table and the lady asked me what did I want just like that after I ordered my food after I felt like I was being pre-judged. It took 45 minutes to an hour to get our food for two club sandwiches after the food was up in the window it didn't sit there another 10 minutes before I got up from the table and went and got my own food ! This is unacceptable I called the restaurant to ask for a manager at 1:35 in afternoon on Monday she's not there she's going to be in tomorrow at 9 AM what type establishment does not have a manager on duty! So I am writing this to let the owner know what's going on in his establishments. Chalmette is a small family base it's not a bunch a Tourist and you can just throw something at them and expect them to eat so if you want to keep succeeding in Chalmette I suggest you work on your customer service skills!

When they first started serving meals, i wasn't a big fan. Wait time was long and orders were wrong. But they changed and now they are great. My Wife and i now have a weekend breakfast tradition. For the longest i felt how hard can it be to mess up eggs, but it takes skill to make them great and every time i go i am very happy. The price is great and you get allot for what you pay for. The waitresses are super friendly They don't have allot of seating but that's actually good, keeping it small means they can keep the quality. They also have a Donuts selection and those are great as well. My wife didn't believe me on how good they are and for once she admitted i was right, which doesn't happen often I don't really have any complaints, this is one of the few places i can walk away feeling like a had a good meal, good experience, and my wallet is not bitching.

I was simply not pleased with this visit to Gerald's. After reading great reviews I decided to try it out. It reminded me of an upscale Waffle House. There were only 2 people working and this was around 7pm in the evening. I'm sure they were short handed. We ordered our food, which was just a regular cheeseburger with fries and waited for like a hour and 30 minutes. This was a to-go order. Long story short, we got the food, the taste was mediocre and the burger was still raw throughout. The fries were soggy. It was just not good food. We called back and of course there was no manager available to issue a refund. The cashier then told us to call the manager in the morning like we were the one's who messed up the order. Our information should have been recorded and the next available manager should have contacted us with an apology for poor service and raw food as well as instructions to receive our refund. Just yuck!

Why have a drive through when no one comes to it?? What's the point? That's money your losing!!

This is the place to go post duck hunt. My buddies and I enjoy the hot coffee, friendly service, consistent breakfast food, and of course the wide variety of donuts. Oh, and the inexpensive prices don't hurt, either!

I love the donuts. The donuts are very fresh and delicious. I have had a full eggs and grits breakfast and it's even better.

Giving 3 stars bc not all of our experiences here have been bad. I usually order to-go and pick up in the drive-thru window. Tonight, I called my order in at 9:20PM. The lady on the phone told me my order would be ready in 10-15 min. We ordered 2 fried chicken sandwiches, both with roast beef debris fries and drinks. We got in the drive-thru at about 9:40. Sat about ten minutes and then was asked to pull back around through the drive thru so they could take care of the people behind me, which having experience in the service industry and customer service, I get it. But my order should've been finished already... I get back to the window, and wait another 10 min for me to finally get my food. We get home, and the roast beef debris is on our chicken sandwiches (YUCK!) and they put it on toast, instead of a bun like it usually comes on.. AND we ordered the meal, which the online menu says came with a donut and those weren't in the bag, either. I'm very disappointed in our service here, today.

I have visited this restaurant twice since my negative review of the Gerald's on St. Claude. I am happy to say that this location is what I was hoping it would be. Food is great, service is excellent and the place is clean.
