I stopped by Germack while visiting Detroit for a company meeting. I ordered a latte, and my colleagues tried the chai. The order was handled professionally and quickly, and we all agreed that the drinks were quite good. It’s a charming little place with a warm, welcoming feel to it. My time there was pleasant, and I’d consider it a good place to enjoy a warm drink.

My friends and I stopped in for a quick coffee and baked good before setting off for the day. The coffee was brewed fresh and the shopping fun began in the store picking up a few Michigan goods and smoked salts. This coffee shop has a little bit of everything from the beans to spices. Stop by and enjoy the smells!

Can't be worse. After contacting the website after a complaint in January while on scene at Eastern Market, excuse after excuse and ZERO offer to rectify. What a joke....will ALWAYS tell others to go elsewhere & not purchase online. As a Detroit native, totally embarrassed at their lack of customer service. RESPONSE: Too late. As stated, I contacted you regarding this matter and you already chose not to provide a solution. Now just making others aware of your lack of adequate customer service.

Agreed !!!! The Chili Mexican is tops, hands down 5 Stars. Upbeat staff, personable and friendly 5 Stars for making my morning and satisfying my tastebuds with a wonderful Rosemary bagel. Wonderful decor with all the trending exposed detailing that’s in the now!!! 5 Star layout. Beautiful aroma, thanks to the large array of fresh spices. Extremely spacious, and wheelchair accessible. A must try!!! #letsguide

My husband and I had a macchiato and a latte. Both drinks were great. The blueberry crumb cake was so good we bought another piece! The staff was also very friendly and engaging. I'm glad we stumbled across this place while traveling. If we are in the area again we will be back.

In Detroit, my 2018 Ford Fusion started making grinding noises while I was driving. I called Rhino Mobile Mechanics of Detroit, and they were fantastic. The mechanic inspected my brakes, explained the problem (worn-out pads), and replaced them on the spot. They didn’t talk down to me or rush through the job, which I really appreciated. A+ for professionalism and convenience!

Very alright single origin pourover for 5.50. Matcha latte was solid, but extremely sweet. Girlfriend and I both decided we'd stick with our usual spots instead of trying this place out again

Love this spot, amazing coffee along with large variety of spices, nuts, candy, trail mixes, to purchase there as well.

Yelp
I thought to share my two cents about germack I've been a patron of getmack, for many years. I think is more than just coffee . I think most fascinating thing about germack. It's that it's a institution in Detroit I think the pistachios to spices chocolates to coffee . I met some people and talked about the great passion of giving great service I love the old warehouse. Feel that you step into gives you a feel back in the day where you can walk into somewhere like that gritty feel I know that the NFL draft is coming into town and a lot of tourists are going to come into the city and don't know anything about Detroit . I say, public speaking is the largest marketplace of United States . I recommend walking around a different markets and getting a field of what's Detroit is about the food people that work in market will tell you a story

Yelp
It was my first time in Detroit and I visited the Eastern Market- it was over 90° and my 85 y/o mother was feeling ill so I stopped in this cute shop. I ordered coffee, tea, and some food. Before the food even came, they announced that the restaurant was closing and we all had to leave! They handed me a paper plate with my mom's food and said good bye. I told them that they had not notified us they were closing before I ordered, and that my mom was 85 years old and not feeling well from the heat. They said sorry- but there's a table outside (in the heat that I was trying to avoid). They had given no warning of closing or gave any indication when I ordered. We ended up needing to leave, with a paper plate and hot tea to look outside for a table. I told them that had I known, I would have not ordered because the whole point was to have my mother text in the air conditioning. Not worth the visit.

Yelp
Cool coffee roastery in a very cool area across from the Eastern Market. Cafe Ole, according to my connoisseur coffee, was excellent. Was told my specialty Columbian chemex made coffee needed to be had black. Was excellent. Baked goods look tasty. One weird thing was the tip sign on the register. Not diggin that.

Yelp
Coffee is always great. I just get a simple drip coffee and it's flavorful without being burnt or acidic. Way better than any major chains. Service is always friendly and with a smile. Ambiance? Eastern Market is just a fun place to be. Parking on the weekends is a nightmare but weekdays is nothing to complain about.

Yelp
Best mocha I have had in quite some time. Little shop in the Eastern Market area, great to stop before or after walking through the market to get hot drink to warm up. Staff was friendly and served up the coffee promptly.

Yelp
Years of enjoyment having the best jumbo squash seeds ever. Just made trip to Germack and only jumbos now sold as less sodium. Seeds barely have any salt added and seeds are so small it's hardly worth the effort to crack since there is no flavor without the salt added. These taste as if I took out of pumpkin and baked. No flavor at all. I never tried Rockeys but that's my next shop to try. Every trip to Eastern Mkt I picked up a large bag. Reduced sodium means salt was lessened but it's actually almost eliminated. Fine If for people with health reasons, but why not offer both ways and add to inventory as a test before replacing it. This is just my opinion as a long time customer hooked on a great product. Other Germack products are as good as ever. Service was friendly I spent over $100. Store was clean.

Yelp
Perfect place to go after walking around the Eastern Market. Drip coffee was good and strong. So cute inside.

Yelp
I come here every December for holiday gifts- For out-of-towners, I send the Detroit/Motown mix with the cute Detroit label For locals I buy one of the cute holiday mixes: Elf Fun, hot cocoa, etc. they have so many choices. And everyone likes to receive one of these You can also take a plastic bag and create your own gift and they'll mail it off Next door they have a coffee shop so stop there first for a sip-n-shop experience, lol- they make an excellent chai latte!

Yelp
Nice coffee shop. Great selection of coffee brewing gear and accessories. Seating is a little tight, which is typical for many shops.

Yelp
Such a great place to escape the cold. The coffee was so good that we bought some beans back home. Also, the spices are amazing as well. Enjoy

Yelp
I'm sorry, if you think you're too good to work at a coffee place you shouldn't. I asked for hot coffee and got bottom of the pot cold and when complained everyone in the store looked at me like." how dare you complain". When she made a fresh pot, she did not clean the storage and grounds came out so she had to throw away the first 2 cups. Took my coffee and put cream in it and the cream was curdled so it ruined my fresh cup of coffee. At that point I had to just walk out. Ineptness

Yelp
Cool coffee shop right across the street from Eastern Market. There was a line to the door, of course. I'm sure it'll be like this all day. It was a Saturday just before noon. The people at the register seemed really nice and personable even though they were obviously busy. The guy who took my order made conversation. He was really nice! The workers are all hipsters so it was cool looking at their fashion. The baristas at the back seemed like they were tiring a bit. I get it. It can be exhausting to work a Saturday with the line never dying down. Customers were all pretty patient and understanding, as was I. I ordered a soy latte which was pretty good! Kinda strong but just right. My older sis got the chili Mexican. It had a kick with the cayenne but was tasty! My other sis got a soy cafe miel which is a latte with honey. She thought it didn't taste much like honey but it didn't taste like my soy latte. They sell bagels, gluten free treats, and GT's kombucha. I do like the space. Lots of small tables for two and one big table at the front. Lots of exposed brick and wood. It was a bit dark because of the color scheme, but there was a lot of natural light. I saw lots of young adults and older people. Seems like a hip place to be.

Yelp
Great little shop, nice variety of coffees, teas, brewing accessories and spices. Staff is very knowledgeable. Products a bit pricey but high quality.

Yelp
Their mochas here are amazing. While I love going to the trendy big box coffee chains. Coffee is my life, and this cafe serves some of the finest tasting espresso drinks. They are rich and delicious. Their mochas and lattes are perfectly crafted, and offer an elevated taste beyond your typical franchise. They also serve fun cookies, muffins, and pastries. We have purchased chess pie here as well from Love's custard pies. They seem to support other local businesses and Detroit businesses here. I enjoy purchasing gifts here. I found some great creamers in the shape of a cat, so adorable. I like their Germack and chocolate choices here. They have Sander's. One of my favorites is the ginormous peanut butter chocolate bars they sell. The prices are also very reasonable.

Yelp
Germack is one of my favorite coffee roasters in the city. The beans are amazing and make both incredible brews at home and a fantastic beverage in-house. Everything I've had there has been great, from the cold brew to a simple pour over to a latte. Rich and perfectly roasted beans. The beans I've taken home have yielded awesome pots of coffee and delicious cold brew concentrate in the summertime. In addition to the coffee, this shop has a variety of coffee brewing equipment, locally made snacks, and really cute kitchen accessories. Looking to put together a cool Mitten made gift? It's easy to do here. Head next door to the nut shop and you can add some of Germack's awesome house roasted nuts to your basket, too. They have a small amount of seating and some snacks like scones and such if you want to stay in to do a bit of work or take a meeting, or just sit and enjoy a nice cup of coffee while hanging out in Eastern Market. One of my go-to places in town, for sure.

Yelp
Right opposite to Eastern Market that offers Good Coffee and Germack nuts, snack mixes, nut butters, dried fruit, chocolates, gourmet gifts, and nostalgic candies with more selection. Pros: ------- Good Coffee and Gourmet stuff Cool Ambience Friendly staff Free parking in the Eastern market sheds Lots of murals around to explore Lot of Food options close by

Yelp
My favorite place to get coffee when working downtown. The employees are so nice and consistent. I also love that their cups are compostable/recyclable! Good job, Germack! I just wish they were open on Sundays :)

Yelp
Stopped in here on a whim, they have great reviews, got a Mocha with Almond Milk. For the price I paid I thought it would be a large (16-20 oz) but instead I got a small - around 12oz for over $5.50. That's about a buck too much IMO. I asked for no foam / froth but I got foam and froth. And it wasn't filled all the way to the top - at least 1/2 inch shorted me coffee. As for the taste - you could not tell it was a mocha by any means. It just didn't have that distinct mocha coffee taste which was disappointing and a let-down. In fact - I had the same Mocha w/ Almond Milk made for me at the coffee bar in the Lexus Dealership in Austin, and it was 10x better, and not to mention - free. That's not good for Germack. You can't compete with better quality java that's lower cost. I think they benefit from their location, when you're in the mood for a pick-me-up - which I was. Just did not meet my expectations quality-wise and was not economical.

Yelp
Whenever I travel to Motown for work I make a stop at Germack for tea/specialty tea lattes and to browse their store. I love their bulk teas, spices and other fun Michigan based items. I recently bought their jasmine green tea in bulk and it's one of the most robust flavored jasmine greens I have had in a LONG time. They switch up their seasonal specialty drinks, which was a bummer for me as I wanted their turmeric latte, but they worked with me and made me a tea latte that had turmeric in it. You are able to buy their coffee in bulk, as I don't drink coffee I brought some home to my husband who said I was delicious. Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for local made items, bulk high quality teas and coffees. Parking has been simple for me, probably because I am there during the weekday. I could see weekends being a bear since it's at the Eastern Market.

Yelp
I walked in today twenty minutes past the closing time and the lady working there was extremely rude to us. We didn't know it was closed because the door was still open and she was standing right at the register looking ready to take our order. Then I asked if I could just buy a tote bag off the shelf and the lady became even more rude and annoyed. First of all, there's no reason why the door would be open and at the register 20 minutes after closing. Second, there's no reason to be that rude to customers. Even if they aren't customers because your business is closed, you should still treat "potential" customers with decent kindness. Guess what? Now I'm not even a potential customer because I would never want to spend money in a place where I'm not even treated like a human being.

Yelp
I've only been down to Eastern Market one other time. This time was with a foreign exchange student program, where we met at Germack. I'm not a coffee drinker so I went for the hot chocolate. AWESOME! It was pretty cool to watch the staff make the hot chocolate, the atmosphere was lively and friendly. If I am ever down at the Eastern Market I will definitely be stopping by.
google avatar

Erik M.

Yelp
I've been buying beans here pretty regularly for about 6 years. They were good to start with, transparent with their sourcing, and reliably good. They've gotten better and better with their sourcing and their roasting - and their current selections are among the best I've ever seen here. I am absolutely in love with the columbia laderas coffee that they have right now, with a great mixture of fruity, tropical and nutty notes, but you can't go wrong with their darker ethiopian roasts, the mexican light roasts or the costa rican offerings. There also happens to be an excellent tea selection for decent prices, and many of them make just as good of an iced tea as a hot tea. The baristas are all incredible and will pull you an excellent espresso shot or a top notch cappucino - not to mention they have detroit institute of bagel bagels if you're hungry too. You're a fool to pass up Germack on market days or otherwise.

Yelp
Love this true coffee shop! I find it difficult to find a spot to purchase good coffee. I frankly don't care about the ambiance (although this is a cool spot to chill) nor the non-coffee additions (they have unique gifts as well). What I love is that the coffee is sourced from around the world and the staff is knowledgeable. Any time I'm near Eastern Market, I stop in and buy the fresh bags I love. Worth the trip!
google avatar

Yelp
It's rare for a specialty coffee shop to please my coffee taste pallet. For a coffee shop to not be a franchise but rather specialty, they have to be special in my eyes. Most are 3 stars but the good ones are 4 stars in my experience. It's not common for a 5 star. This place takes 5 star simply for their mocha latte drinks (hot and iced)! Many people were recommending their mocha lattes and it happens to be my favorite latte anyways so I was for sure more than willing to try them out. The place has a unique roaster inside with Costa Rican coffee as their origins. Everything is togo with Covid but come here on a nice and bright sunny day and you'll enjoy the coffee that much more in the Eastern market. I tried their hot and iced mocha lattes this past weekend and it was a perfect creamy dark chocolate balance between coffee and cocoa. The espresso gave it a good caffeine kick that I needed as well. At the end, Great location with great coffee. I'm afraid to try anything other than mocha lattes next time because I do not want to be disappointed.

Yelp
Picked up some coffee on my way to enjoy the morning at Detroit's Eastern Market. I liked the different items they had for sale, although greatly overpriced. I was happy to see all the bulk, loose herbs they had available. Not even in health food stores can you find a great loose herb selection like Germack's has. In the back of the store is their roasting room, where they do on site roasting. I loved the earthy/industrial-yet-cozy decor. The staff were all very friendly, and like Starbucks, the coffee itself is priced reasonably, but the fancy drinks were $$$$$.
google avatar

Paula C.

Yelp
This place has such a zen atmosphere after being in the hectic market. The servers know there coffee . Ask for recommendations if you buy a bag of beans that they roast. Pastries are delicious and there are lots of local food items for sale. Wish they had more sandwich food. You can go next door for Germack nuts and munchies.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
The spice shopping looked great. Over on the coffee shop side, service was slow. I had an espresso which left much to be desired. It was an over roasted blend and served without a smile. There was a good selection of home equipment on the wall. The baked goods looked delicious but I didn't try any.
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee shop and more! Delicious desserts made locally. Teas ,herbs. The employees are always very helpful and nice. Definitely a must go to when visiting the Detroit area. It's right in the eastern market shopping area.

Yelp
The latte was good. The service not so much! I am not a proponent of tipping for just taking an order. You know, before you swipe your card to pay you're asked if you want to add a tip. Against my better judgment, I added a tip and waited (standing because there were no seats available) patiently for my vanilla latte with oat milk. After awhile, I commented to the cashier that Perhaps they could up the volume when letting customers know their order was ready as I could not hear when the guy gave notification. The cashier seemed annoyed with my suggestion and said that my name would be called when my drink was ready. It was not! Instead my drink sat sat on the counter because the person notifying customers was softly calling out the order NOT the name. I asked again if my latte was ready becuz I could not hear the mumbled notification. The cashier seemed annoyed that I asked AGAIN. After asking if the order for my name was ready, the person making the latte pointed to the drink that had been sitting for 5 mins on the counter and indicated that was indeed my latte. My name was never called. I commented that my order had been sitting for about 5 minutes. The cashier said "it wasn't 5 minutes, maybe 2 minutes." At that moment, I realized I had prematurely paid a tip for BAD SERVICE. Rather than debate with the cashier who clearly wanted me to stfu, I took the high road and said "I won't argue with you." Btw, like the person behind the counter who softly called out the orders NOT CUSTOMERS NAMES -- my comments inquiring about my order were never loud. Bottom line, no one apologized for the delay in getting my order. Importantly, the latte was good but I'll never ever tip when placing an order and I'll never ever give my business to these rude unorganized dudes at Germack coffee shop at Eastern market.

Yelp
This spot is a Detroit Staple. Everything from the coffee to the nuts are delicious! The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable on all of their drinks. They are more than willing to help you decide what to order if you are a newer coffee drinker! There is indoor seating but then again it's in the heart of the Eastern Market, so you may want to grab some coffee and nuts and walk around.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great when getting your Eastern Market groceries. It's right next to the Detroit Vs. Everybody store as well! The coffee (Lavender latte and regular drip coffee) was excellent. They also have an assortment of spices and coffee that you can buy in the back!! The employees are really helpful and friendly. Highly recommend for coffee!! But, on saturday mornings - this place is really packed and def not a quiet place to study or get any work done. Recommend just getting your coffee to go and walking around!!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this local coffee shop. Unassuming, interesting products - many of them Detroit made! - cozy neighborhood coffee shop. I just moved to Lafayette Park and am gonna make this my home base. Some selection of baked goods but drinks are where it's at! And the fall spice latte is legittttt (cause I'm a #basicbitch) Just wish they were open a on Sunday's! Also: Check out the Grubbable app for 10% off your orders here and other Detroit eateries that use local foods!
google avatar

Yelp
A lot of stuff to buy around coffee, just beside eastern market, very nice stop for a coffee break. Ordered latte this time, latte art is beautiful, nice almond taste! Interior design is nice to take photos as well!
google avatar

Efraim S.

Yelp
Really great coffee. It's so close to the market. I like so many others found myself hot, overwhelmed by the amazingness and they provided the bolt of caffeine and air conditioning I needed. So impressed by the espresso and iced coffee I got I purchased some espresso beans. Will update review once I grind and make myself some joe.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee in Detroit. Great flavor, always fresh, reasonably priced. The staff is incredibly friendly too.
google avatar

J C.

Yelp
Decent coffee but nothing to write home about. I got a cafe au lait and just felt meh about it. The milk was steamed perfect but it lacked flavor. I am by no means a coffee expert but I do drink it every day and while I can taste the difference of store bought vs. fresh roasted I don't turn my nose at the first. I guess if I lived closer I would try their pour over and see if I feel differently about that. My only caveat for this post is that I had JUST finished my pour over from Great Lakes Roasting. So try it if you want, maybe it's just me.
google avatar

Shelby K.

Yelp
Best vanilla latte I've had by far! 10/10 would recommend The atmosphere is great, the food looked delicious and it's right in the heart of the eastern market!
google avatar

Stacey E.

Yelp
Best. Coffee. In. Detroit. I stop here every weekend when I go to Eastern Market. I drink the espresso black & it's delicious. Never burnt like the chain places.
google avatar

Lynne S.

Yelp
Lovely shop in the heart of Eastern Market...a good place to hide out with your laptop and get some work done. All I ever get is the medium roast drip, but it's always such a lovely well-balanced cup of coffee. These people know their stuff. Normally I at least try the drip but move on if it's not satisfactory...here, there's no need for that! Add on some of the Avalon pastries they've got for sale, and it can't be beat.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
I would give a 5 if the staff wasn't so awkward. Every single time I go, which just occurred for the last time until the staff changes, they look at you as if you're in the wrong place. All I wanted to do was get a fricken coffee! They do have incredible coffee and their rose cardamom syrup is the bees knees! I have turned so many friends into it. I'm gonna find the recipe and make it myself. Whelp, off to Astros I go! Hey Germack, hit me up when that tall fricken weirdo gets lost. Astro isn't open on Monday so I went to The Roasting Plant instead!!! The people are so nice and the coffee is delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite place to come have a coffee and enjoy some time in the eastern market.
google avatar

Tania K.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday morning to enjoy the Detroit atmosphere while getting some work done. Very nice people who work here. The line is a bit slow, but it was slammed when I got there because Eastern market is literally across the street and it was Saturday morning....a large variety of coffee and cafe-y foods. They also have a little store that is a part of the same space where you can get spices and coffee paraphernalia! I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're at Eastern market or any other day of the week. This is a cool part of Detroit, lots of beautiful murals and nearby places to eat!
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Like their other location in Eastern Market, Germack Coffee is an awesome Detroit gem. The store front has an awesome rustic feel and you can find any type of coffee product you can think of. There is a wide variety of flavors, roasts, and blends to choose from and all are reasonably priced. Germack Coffee is worth the visit!
google avatar

Julio Cesar M.

Yelp
If i could give this spot a higher rating I sure would!! My wife and I have been here for a few days and have been longing for a real cup of DARK ROAST COFFEE!! and this establishment delivered beyond our expectations! We've been to about 5 different coffee houses here in Detroit and surrounding areas and have been let down with other coffees not our preference, not bad coffee just not dark they way we enjoy it... BUT NOW we are Enjoying every drink of this dark pour over Brazil..heavenly they also sell raw green beans and got me some pounds to take back home :). Thank you Nathan for the off the hook pour over buddy...

Yelp
Had one of the best lattes in my life at Germack this morning. A triple expresso chili Mexican latte (I added an extra shot). A spicy and sweet latte with the right dose of caffeine! I was skeptical but it's definitely a great cup of latte.Must try!! ::keep eating
google avatar

Rebecca F.

Yelp
Great place to get coffee in the eastern market district. I got a sage latte. Tasted great with honey and not alot of other added sweetness. Wish it had been a bit bigger though. I loved the names of their roasted beans like i-75 and Ambassador. There is a Germack store nextdoor that sells nuts and snacks. The cinnamon peanut butter is the best!

Yelp
I stopped by here a couple of Saturday mornings ago with my wife for our morning coffee. The first thing that I noticed whenever we walked in was how crowded it was. After a second look it happened to be because there was a group sitting at the large table that they had in front of the cash registers. This made ordering difficult and at one point I overheard a worker complaining about how groups need to pick better times. Other than the coffee area I didn't notice too much else about the place besides their roaster in the back. I always do enjoy seeing a coffee places roaster and knowing that they roast their coffee on premise. After looking over the menu I decided to order a 16 oz pour over with Perivian coffee while my wife went with a small Americano. I knew that my pour over would take a little while to make but we waited 15 minutes before they even started my wife's Americano. Then once that was ready I saw them measure out the coffee on a digital scale and grind it. Then they got their pour over station which was actually quite cool. It reminded me of a raised ice cream cone holder only with spots for the coffee instead of the ice cream cones on the top. Then you could watch them make the coffee and it drop into the cup. They started mine and filled it up for the first time. All of the water dripped through and then it just sort of sat there for 5 minutes. At this point we had been waiting for about 20+ minutes and I was getting a bit agitated. So I asked the lady who was making my coffee if she could finish it. She apologized to me and got help from another barista who eventually finished it up. I wish that I could say that the coffee was worth the wait but sadly it was not. It's not that it was bad but it had a funny taste to it. I am going to chalk the flavor up to the Peruvian origins of the coffee as everything looked like it was done correctly. The bottom line for me is that I might give Germack's another chance again in the future. While both my coffee and wait time were disappointing I do love that they roast their coffee in house and hope that they would do better in the future.

Yelp
Cute place to grab a cup of coffee or some tea. It is a coffee shop and store. They sell pastry's and loose tea leaves you can buy and take home. My cappuccino was very good, wish they would have asked if I wanted it for here or to go though.
google avatar

Mandy W.

Yelp
Ordered a cold brew and it was super, super sour. It was either under brewed, roasting of the beans were scorched, and/or the beans used are naturally tart. I would order another drink to be safe.

Yelp
Seriously as good as it gets. Helpful, friendly staff. I had an espresso with a touch of condensed milk, salt and pepper and steamed milk. Seriously, mind blown. This is the type of coffee drink that I will dream of forever. Also a full range of other goodies that make perfect gifts. I want them to ship me beans to Los Angeles.
