If you’re craving doner kebab in Astoria, German Doner Kebab serves up flavorful, high-quality meat that’s worth trying. I had both the beef and chicken gyro combo, and the meat was the best part—juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked just right (8/10). However, I wasn’t crazy about the condiments, and the pita was different from the traditional style, which wasn’t to my liking. While it wasn’t my favorite gyro overall, the quality of the meat stands out. Next time, I might customize my order for a better fit, but if you’re looking for a solid gyro spot in Astoria, it’s still worth checking out.

The food here is absolutely disgusting. I paid $45 and received two of the smallest rolls that were not only 2inches long and $5 each but DRY TO THE BONE and small shreds of dry meat. The waffle chocolates that I got are absolutely disgusting it’s cardboard with paste in it! I cannot believe the horrendous quality of this poor excuse for food. I want my money back. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!

As much as i love German Doner, we get it in our work place once a week at-least. Unfortunately workers need to pay attention to the meat being cooked. The meat was discovered raw and it's the nastiest feeling. Although the food is really good but this is the third time i have found raw meat in the original chicken sandwich. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION AND STOP RUSHING COOK THE MEAT PROPERLY. DO NOT DROP THE STANDARDS of the QUALITY.

If I were to choose a restaurant to get food from with my eyes closed, 'German Doner Kebab' will be one of those restaurants. Tried them for the first time a few days ago and was struggling to pick an item from their huge menu. Front of house was handled by Joanna that morning, and man she did such an amazing job! One of the most cheerful staff I've ever encountered at a restaurant, especially in NYC, and if I'm returning to any location of German Doner Kebab, then all credit goes to Joanna. She needs to be promoted ASAP. Joanna suggested I get the Doner Panini (as I said I was looking for an option that wouldn't be too heavy but would still be fulfilling). I got the Doner Panini with Chicken, Flaming Fries with yogurt sauce (recommended by Joanna, again Kudos!) Chocolate Waffle Bread and a bottle of juice. The Doner Panini has undoubtedly become my favorite. I was tired of the same Chicken over Rice at all halal locations, and this item was an incredible refresher for me. The Flaming Fries tasted great, the yogurt sauce was a brilliant addition (will be back to try the other sauces). Also, I'd suggest eating the Chocolate Waffle Bread while its warm, as that's when you get the best taste. I'd recommend dining there as the atmosphere is very cozy. Some pictures were not very good as I was traveling and eating! But man the taste, you need to TRY THEIR FOOD ASAP.

Google
Really good doner kebab, true to the version I've had in Berlin. Delicious balance of protein, veggies, and sauce inside the bread. I'll definitely come back. The curry fries with spicy sauce were also great. Thanks!

Google
This was a 10/10. I absolutely loved the sandwich. I had German Doner at the mall in NJ and was not impressed but when I had it here, it was great. It had so much flavor and was so filling. It is unique from other sandwiches. They also had a high chair for my baby and plenty of seating.

Google
To be fully honest: It’s more like a 3.5 star than a 3 star. Food’s good enough for when I need a quick bite in the area—definitely the closest to the real thing I’ve had in NY. My only issue was that the way they put the sauce it just kind of all pools at the bottom, so at the end you’re just left with a bread wedge full of sauce. Excited to come back and try the Donner box.

It's SO GOOD. The service is amazing. You can dine in and order from register, and then they will bring you your food. It's amazing. I need to come back. I got the gym box, and the meat is SO GOOD. For lunch, it you get one of the boxes, it comes with a free drink. There's so much variety with the drinks, too. Great place to eat alone, take to go, and have late nights.

Yelp
I've been struggling with how to rate Doner because we're spoiled here with the amount of halal spots and trucks that serve twice the portions Doner does at half the price. In my opinion, they've taken something that wasn't broken and modernized it into a fast casual restaurant, which I guess is convenient. But I was in the area, I was hungry and still had a few more hours of errands to run, so this became my spot for a healthy ish lunch. I walked in and saw they had mobile kiosks you could ordered from, so I went and selected a rice bowl with both chicken and beef, white and red sauces. However, after multiple attempts the machine wouldn't let me check out, so I ended up ordering at the front anyway. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, my food took a while to prepare. Maybe they were backed up with to-go orders. The order itself was pretty tasty, but the portions are small. My order came to $14 total, which would've gone farther at King of Falafel. Overall, not a bad spot, but not something you need to run out and try.

Yelp
Big big fan of Doner; This place has been on my Hit list for the last six months last week. I finally was in the area found the parking spot and ran inside to give this place a go. Greeted by very, very polite, young lady who explained their menu and advised me . Place was very clean and spotless love the fact that they have open glass to the entire kitchen so you could see your food being cooked and handled as well .... For me, this was the first time trying German doner; I tried their Doner Rice bowl; it was good at best; their Doner meat is very tasty good quality of meat being used; the rice & salad is what it is .... Also got a side of Doner meat on the side because if you see the portion of meat, rice & salad for $12.99 it's definitely on the smaller side compared to the Halal Halal & the greeks guys... Their white sauce is ok but i think it needs a lil help & their hot sauce is like a shrimp cocktail sauce with a little touch of barbecue sauce in it definitely not what I expected for a hot sauce. It was on the sweet tangy side, not a fan.... Would I recommend this place? Yes no maybe or maybe not.... Would I go out of my way to go eat here? Definitely would not if I was in the area and I was hungry yeah sure. going forward, I will stick to my favorite Gyro donor spots; My Halal Halal guys & My Greeks.. Thanks, Greg D. & family

Yelp
No frills, gets the job done. Yummy doner kebabs. About $11.99 for one and would comeback for more

Yelp
I never knew what a German doner kebab was. And was Soo happy to try this place, the food is super fresh and yummy ! Very unique and the staff is really friendly. I got the chicken doner kebab and with the sauce it was delish. Definitely worth a try!

Yelp
got the boss box which cost $23 (post tax) and was pretty disappointed by what it included. The fries are probably the worst i can remember having - thick cut but not double fried so they taste stale or not fried compeltely through. Sandwich and rolls were ok but beef and lamb didnt taste as good as any of the other middle eastern places ive been on steinway. they also didnt give me any of the sauce that was included and when I went back to ask for some they said they were out except for the spicy sauce and then i asked again if ai could just get that one they gave me the other sauces too.

Mohamed K.

Yelp
Food was ok, generous portion and well-seasoned but overall not the best value. I would prefer a shawarma from one of the many spots on Steinway instead. I did like the bread and the white sauce. Didn't like the red sauce, it wasn't spicy and tasted like tomato sauce. Service was quick and the place was clean.

Jen N.

Yelp
I came in for a quick bite while shopping. The young man at the counter was quite pleasant. I ordered the spring rolls. They had a zing to them. The menu indicated spicy and they were just the right amount of spice. They contained pickled jalapeños and the chicken was seasoned very nicely. The sauce that accompanied the rolls was mayo based. Seasoned nicely and was cooling to the tongue. A nice accompaniment to offset the heat. My only gripe was how oily the outer shell was. Definitely needed a few napkins for just two rolls. I ended up using a fork and knife. Would still get them again. I'll be back for more and will update when I do!

Yelp
My first doner kebab experience. Was excited to see there was a Queens location for this place outside of Midtown Manhattan. A couple of pros and cons to break down about the food and experience: Pros - Very generous portions, the kebab quality overall was great - pita, meat, and veggies. Also comes with a side of fries and drink if you add a combo to it. Very clean and spacious eating area to stop by. Even the boxing and wrapping is nicely done to keep the kebab from getting soggy if you walk far after picking up the item. Service was prompt and they have a kiosk system if you're in a hurry to order in. Cons - This place can be pricey as my combo came out to be $16.00 after tax. And just the doner kebab alone is already a solid $12.00 itself. Once in a blue moon, I don't mind chowing down on this zesty treat but not constantly just to save a couple of bucks. Still a solid experience and not bad for the first time.

Tom T.

Yelp
Wasn't too clean inside and the staff was rude. The kiosks say to see staff if you have allergies. They send you back to the kiosk. We walked out. Won't be back.

Kushtrim I.

Yelp
Their food is great , and i keep coming back here for a long time from day one since they opened. Lately the service is the worst service you will get , i dont know his name but the guy with glasses is the rudest guy i've met . Its like the guy hates his job .

Saadia N.

Yelp
Their service is great. Very clean and spacious inside, ambiance is 10/10. It's authentic doner kebab and their sauces all taste so good!

Yelp
Got me really sick just bought yesterday I would not recommend been throwing up all night

Yelp
My daughter ordered kebabs for dinner for delivery. It said it would be by us in 15-30 minutes - it ended up taking over an hour and a half. I heard this place is busy but didn't know it was that popular for it to take this long. We ordered chicken kebabs and cheese fries. I have kebabs all the time in Europe and I didn't have too high of expectations but thought it would be as good as everyone says. The kebab barely had any meat. I will say that the bread was very tasty and fresh. The fries were okay - there was just some cheese on the top and they were served cold - if they were warm I think they'd be better. I put the fries in the kebab and ended up eating it like that. It was just okay - I was hungry but I don't know if I'll order from here again.

Jack X.

Yelp
For transparency, I did not visit the restaurant and don't know what it looks like on the inside. I ordered on Uber Eats for delivery because I was hungry and have seen these pop up all around NYC. I thought that I should give them a try because I really love Halal Food and it has become a quindecennial part of NYC life. What I got was the mix lamb and chicken, which is what I usually get and this place also offers three dipping sauces (hot, white sauce, and a garlic sauce) and you get once sauce with the order. The kebab order comes with cabbage, lettuce, onion, tomatoes and you can order what you want. The packaging is very cool and it comes wrapped and in a little cardboard box. When you open it, its very pretty and it has a waffle kind of wrap on it that is thin and soft, like a soft waffle cone that isnt hard, it comes with sesame on top as well. Unfortunately this is where it starts going bad. Unlike normal halal food, which is served in chunks of thick slices, this meat comes shaved and is very thin. The problem is that the meat tastes dry and mediocre. The meat is kind of stringy even though its shaved and it has little taste, its mostly just salty and dry. The garlic sauced helped a little but it was strangely sweet and maybe I should've gone with the white sauce. Overall, I think that this place has a lot of room for improvement, especially since its located in Astoria where there are so many good choices for halal food.

Cole D.

Yelp
I loved in Germany for 5 years so this visit was special, and very true to the real thing. The waffle bread is unique but I really liked it. The interior of the place is so clean and cool. Love the orange and black design. I got the original donor kebab and curry fries. All delicious. Loved all bites, especially as I was almost done the donor and the sauce was all at the bottom. Would definitely return! The fries are warm and crunchy. Great!

Yelp
4.5 stars. It's finally open! German Doner Kebab's second US location (and the first in NYC) opened today in Astoria. This chain is known for their doner kebabs and have locations worldwide. This was my first time trying German Doner Kebab or doner kebabs in general. First impression of this fast casual restaurant was really good. For their first day, it was packed with people but the interior still felt quite spacious with lots of seating. I waited a good twenty minutes for my food but didn't mind too much. All of the staff were bustling to get orders out quickly and the manager was even on the floor chatting with guests as they waited. As for the food, you can choose from a wrap, sandwich or burger and you choose the meats, heat level and sauce. They only serve halal meat so no pork, but you can choose chicken, beef or mixed of both. I ended up getting a Doner Box with Fries ($10.99) and a Boss Box ($18.49). The Doner Box comes with meat (I got mixed meat) and fries in a cute little box. The Boss Box comes with a main (I got the Original Kebab), sides (I got the Doner Spring Rolls), fries (I opted for plain) and a soft drink. The food was nicely packaged with slots for everything including your drink, so it was really easy to take on the go and the food traveled well. For the Kebab, they use special doner kebab bread which is thin and has a waffle like texture. And the meat is cooked rotisserie-style, where the outer layers are sliced off. Before putting the meats inside the bread, they put two kinds of sauce (a creamy garlicky sauce and a tomato-based sauce). I really liked that the meat was cut very thinly but it does get cool and dry faster. Not sure if these are great for leftovers and I'm guessing it's best to eat these while it's still fresh. Otherwise, the food was yummy and very filling. Welcome to the neighborhood GDK! I think you'll do well here.

Joyce C.

Yelp
4 stars for the quality of the meat. Highly recommend the chicken! It's shredded/cut finely, but with just big enough pieces to taste the juiciness of the meat. Reminds me of shredded fresh parmesan, don't know why; it has to do with both the flavor and a lightness about it. However next time I'd probably enjoy just a serving of meat and French fries or regular pita. I got the OG Sandwich (mixed meat) for about $11-12. It's a generous portion & I had 1/4 leftover. Since this is my first time trying this and I'm not sure if this is how its supposed to be, but the OG bread is CRISP. It reminded me of a pressed panini, but even more crisp, almost like a thick cracker. The waffle pattern is just a flat pattern & doesn't give it any texture. Didn't enjoy eating what was essentially a giant cracker sandwich. It's a 2-bite sandwich too- very thick with meat. So 1st bite- top bread and vegetables. 2nd bite bottom bread and meat. The mixed meat is chicken & beef. I don't recommend the beef, it was a little gamey and reminded me of slices of (nicer) roast beef. The beef was lined in the sandwich first and then the chicken piled on top of it. The OG comes with lettuce, tomato, red finely chopped red cabbage, a garlic dill white sauce on one of the bread, and spicy red sauce on the other. I wish there was extra white sauce, the red sauce reminded me of harissa- medium spicy actually. Needed less of that. For some reason I was noticing all the architectural details of the sandwich; because I was eating a cracker sandwich... would have liked the white sauce on top of the lettuce, and the red sauce on the bottom underneath the meat. I feel like this would've tasted a little better, instead of a bite with spicy lettuce. Apparently this is their 2nd US location, outside of the American Mall in New Jersey and I can see why people are excited about it. There was a steady stream of customers at 2pm. The casual restaurant has about 5 tables and a bar & stools in the back. The design is modern, clean, & fun. High ceilings, music's a little too loud. Nice design of a open glass encased kitchen, so you can see all the kabobs roasting and your order being made. The place was very clean & staff was very friendly. There's 2 ordering kiosks near the door also, along with their counter. Their branding is A+ ! The sandwich came nicely wrapped, in a triangle box, with branded napkins, a BRANDED handi-wipe, and paper tote bag. I guess my 4 stars are for the quality of the chicken and the handi-wipe. LOL

Yelp
I have to say, when I saw this place about to open I told myself "gonna try it one day". Well that day is here, actually 10 minutes before closing on a Saturday night is more like it (don't ask where I was going afterwards let alone where I was before). The funny part was I had already eaten at Meat and Bread in the city (check out the review , to be posted momentarily) and then headed over for some Gelato at ... well take a wild guess. But even after a great evening of pleasing my hunger, the shawarma (in this case doner) ghost creeped into my head and said "you know you have some more room for alittle something extra" and of course , my alter corpulent ego decided to take the wheel and drove me to astoria catching this place from closing. Was it all worth it? Well even at 10 minutes before closing (I ordered the original, as recommended by staff) the German doner was the BOMB DOT COM. I didn't even know I could enjoy more food after already eating a good 1000 calories. Listen people, there's some magic when you're eating meat on a spit, grilled , seared, roasted or even fried...but when you take thinly sliced meat and pile them on top of each other into a tower, sizzling in front of a fire and thinly sliced and slapped into a waffle like soft bread that keeps everything together , that's sorcery. I'm coming back with a gang here.

Yelp
I had wanted to try this place forever but never had the chance. So I finally ordered in last night. As I wrote on a local site: Got the Boss Box, as I had a discount code. Sides that came with that I chose were cheesy fries and the Crispy Chicken Doner Rolls. I also upped the meat and feta content, and asked for extra lettuce and cabbage. Also came with a bottled soda. Review: Well, at least the soda was cold--too cold; when I picked up the bottle it felt tight like someone had stored it in the freezer. It didn't explode when I opened it, so no biggie. Spoiler: This was the best part of my order. Sides -- the selections as part of the box were kind of a weird flex; I didn't think jalapeno poppers would be a good bet at a *checks notes* allegedly German-style doner place. So I got the crispy chicken rolls. They were the "best" food item in the box; came with two of them, they tasted vaguely Indian Takeoutish, and were crispy. Lukewarm but still crispy, and OKish if dipped into the white sauce that they sent along with the order. Lukewarm and definitely NOT crispy--the 10 or so thick cut soggy fries that came in their own little wax bag, swimming in The Worst Cheese Sauce Ever. This is 10x worse than the crap they put on movie theater nachos because at least the nachos and sauce at movie theaters is usually HOT. This was a bright orange pudding-skin-thick glop that was lukewarm, and the fries were borderline cold and SOGGY. How do you F up fries when your entire menu has like 6 items on it? Finally, the sandwich. Large, oddly shaped, and the meat wasn't particularly flavorful. The meat was also shaved incredibly thin and the bread was also lukewarm. If there was "extra" feta in there I didn't notice because I couldn't find any feta in the thing. I saved about half for tomorrow's lunch because I don't want to waste money, but I even with my discounts I paid a lot of $$ for some seriously crappy food. I mean, the time when I placed the order to when I got it was something like 15 minutes and it's a short motorbike ride from my place. The meat should have been a lot more flavorful and FFS if you can't get fries right at a fast food place then just pack up shop and go home. Even though very little time passed between placing my order and when I got it, I can't help but think that they had some stuff ready to go under a heat lamp or something. And yeah, I have had real Berliner doner kebab in Berlin. This was not that. Not by a mile. For the same money I could have gotten objectively better cheap "bad" Chinese food that would last me for 3 solid meals and none of anything I could order would be "bad," it may not be the GOAT but I wouldn't feel ripped off.

Eddie L.

Yelp
I really like this place and would give it a *****, but staff on some shifts aren't fully trained or supervised so consistency and customer service can vary greatly, for example sometimes the staff turn up the air conditioner likely to keep the kitchen cool meaning the dining area is frigid or the waffle is falling apart, but when the place has the better staff and manager it is beyond awesome. It is really a great and unique product with a nice atmosphere when it reaches non-subarctic temperature and staff greet the customers... I'm serious.

Jack M.

Yelp
Tastes like a corporate doner kebab. Mass production doner. The wrap is papery and has an odd crisp to it, similar to wafer paper. There isn't enough meat. And the filling is too acidic. Overall the service was very rushed and weirdly casual. The ambiance is very corporate/fast casual. Overall I think they miss the mark of replicating the Berlin Doner Kebab experience, which is what I wanted. I suspect they've figured a way to artificially inflate their ratings on other review sites.

Maria P.

Yelp
Classic case of good marketing and poor quality food. Can't believe the hype that this establishment has.

Dave H.

Yelp
I was excited to try this after coming back from Berlin this summer. Unfortunately it was a complete disappointment. Wayyyyy too salty and super thin dried out meat. It was so dry I had to question whether it was yesterday's leftovers (morning order). The amount of meat was good but it lacked the standard fresh salad to balance out a normal diner. I would stick with the other options in the area. Such a shame.

oktay d.

Yelp
Food is too mediocre to bland for crappy service. I regret spending penny here. Never again

Karina Q.

Yelp
Really really good spot! Perfect for late dinner or for a quick break in between meetings. I've been there a couple of times, I tried german doner kebab, munch wrap and flaming fries. They also have vegetarian options and there is plenty of seating. The staff last night was very friendly and gave great recommendations!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Doner kabab was quite solid, the mixed meat is sliced so so thinly, it almost feels like theirs a weird texture to it. But the meat all comes with packed flavors! It's a massive kabob, clearly stuffed to the brim and well worth it. We also tried their Doner egg rolls which I don't think is that worth it. It came dripping in oil and only had meat wrapped inside without any other filling really.

Jessica L.

Yelp
I came here because I've passed by and was pretty excited to try German food. I got the Boss Box Doner Kebab with a regular mix, curry fries, jalapeño poppers, and root beer which I exchanged for an orange soda. I also got a Doner burger. All of the food was good and tasted pretty ordinary. I had never had German food before so I didn't know what to expect. I asked for suggestions and this was what the cashier suggested. It felt like an ordinary fast food meal to me. The total for all this food came out to $31.01 which wasn't too bad price-wise. I don't know if I'd necessarily come back to eat because the experience didn't amaze me.

Nikki C.

Yelp
First time trying this new spot in steinway. The portion is overall very huge and filling. I got the chicken and beef, and it came with the side of fries and a drink. I wish they gave me a little more beef in the sandwich. The flaming fries had a little kick to it but wasn't spicy. They give you the options of sauces, you don't want to skip out on this. I have to try other things on the menu!! I will be back.

Samah I.

Yelp
There's two kiosks to order from and of course the register. There's plenty of seating and service is wonderful. There's a window where you can see all the preparation. It's all a very convenient and causal set up which I loved. Perfect for groups. There's a bathroom also available for customers. Alas the food didn't impress me. The flavors were almost nonexistent compared to other doners/shawarma I've had. It appeared like there was no seasoning in the meat before it was put on the spike to cook and you had to pay .50 cents or a dollar to add one of two seasoning options. Odd for sure. The amount of meat is excellent but I legit couldn't tell the difference between the beef and the chicken--visually and taste wise. The sauces were good but I could barely taste them. The size of all the portions is wonderful but for an average meal, meh.

Michael C.

Yelp
Its essentially the Mc Donalds of kebab style food. The food is ok at best, not a lot of meat for the price youre paying. It tasted good, we had the original kebad with fries. Im i happy that this is here instead of a popeyes or taco bell ? Of course. Is it smarter to eat out of any of the surrounding food trucks if youre looking for most volume for your buck ? Absolutely!! Good place to sit and have a snack, use the restroom, get in & out ! Would i go back ? Very unlikely. Music was really loud, me & the cashier could hardly hear each other. The menu is very limited as a whole. The sauces are extra and the ambience there seemed rushed and chaotic. Best of luck.

Yelp
Note -this grate is provisional based on the fact they had just opened back in February. What is all the fuss about -they are just the Mcdonald's of Kebabs. This new fast food joint is situated in a small stretch of fast food restaurants along Steinway, including Chipotle and Mcdonald's. When they opened earlier this year, the lines went around the block, and they created a lot of press of press coverage, esp with a story about a bride and groom who left something at the restaurant. I went there a few days after the opening and found a large friendly fast-food establishment with helpful employees doing a terrific job. There were no lines, and I was quickly able to pick a meal out. I ordered a beef kebab, and cheesy fries with yogurt sauce. The meal was reasonably priced at $15 and was quite satisfying. As for quality, I don't think they live up to the fresh-cut kebabs at many of the fine Turkish and Middle Eastern restaurants along Broadway and Steinway St. A chain concept is never as good as freshly prepared dinners from mom-and-pop restaurants, and we have plenty of Turkish restaurants in the area. Though I am rating them as four stars, in reality, they will ultimately be your traditional fast-food casual restaurants for a quick, inexpensive bite. Who knows if I will be back?

Annalise G.

Yelp
Honestly, very disappointing. Let me preface this by saying I did a semester in Berlin and ate my share of Döner from various shops. I've also had Döner from two other brands in NYC, and another branch of German Doner Kebab at American Dream in Jersey. This was just bad. I ordered the kcal beef Döner- expected the flavor difference with the whole wheat, and wasn't planning to hold it against them. Didn't expect that everything else would be the problem. The meat lacked any distinct flavor, the lettuce was soggy, and it didn't come with any of the traditional sauces. I'll stick with shawarma from one of the Middle Eastern spots on Steinway from now on.

Ibrahim Z.

Yelp
I was disappointed when I got original chicken kebab in regular bread. They are not serving in wafle anymore Taste is completely different now. I can't say that is original german kebab anymore. After good start they are downgrading now.

Ramon W.

Yelp
Clean and busy. I will definitely be back again to try something else. Fresh ingredients, savory spices. It was like I made it fresh straight from the kitchen. The curry spice on the fries is something of a phenomenal thing. This store is a must try!!

Catherine Y.

Yelp
Two stars because our server was very nice and the place was very clean. Other than that, the only good thing I have to say is the thinly sliced meat and the sesame bread had an appealing texture. Overall, the entire meal was a salt bomb. Beef, chicken, or combo? It doesn't matter because it all taste the same. I can't even tell the difference. I believe the chicken is much saltier, but I could be wrong since everything was so salty. Let me correct myself, the spring rolls were the only item not salty. They were mushy and bland on the inside and soaking with oil on the outside. Same comment for the spring rolls... Beef or chicken? It doesn't matter they both tasted like the same frozen mush. Bland and oily. The seven fries that comes with a tablespoon of cheese should not be considered a side dish. We ordered a boss box with extra meat along with a Gym box. The boss box was definitely not worth the cost compared to getting a straight up German donor kebab or a regular box. As I said earlier, the spring rolls were disgusting and the fries were laughable. The German donor kebab itself was pretty good since the salty meat was balanced with the veggies and bread. Just don't use the dipping sauces. The supposed yogurt sauce tasted like ranch. The garlic sauce tasted exactly like the yogurt sauce with a little bit of garlic. They both taste like they were mayo-based and so so salty. That's extremely unfortunate I couldn't finish the sauces being the condiment whore that I am. The spicy sauce was OK, but I don't really use hot sauce, but it wasn't very spicy. It tasted like a watered down Tabasco with a thickening agent. The Gym box wasn't bad, it was just meat on top of lettuce, I didn't even realize it was supposed to have cabbage (it didn't). I just didn't find it very enjoyable because I didn't like the sauces. As this is my first time going to GDK, I don't know if the salt issue is at this chain or this is just what their food taste like, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to try another location to find out.

Yelp
After 5 months overseas, I strolled to Steinway to see if there was some new store. Stopped at the German Doner Kabab and my first reaction was that we should see what the Turks think of that appellation since my most memorable Doner experience was actually at Turkish restaurants in Germany. So now, despite that friendly service and the super clean environment, I did not like the meat nor the fries. The beef was very thinly cut and tasteless and the 3 different sauces served aside made it even worst. I made the mistake of ordering a meal box, which was served without a bun. Bottom line: next time, I'll go to my favorite Gyro joint, few blocks away.

Yelp
First time trying this place and it was a mixed experience. Food was actually very tasty, but the portion size and presentation were messy and unacceptable. I ordered the Mixed Panini and paid an extra $2.50 for the bigger meat portion. As you can see from the pictures that what I received there was not much meat on the Sandwich. Also ordered a side of fries and they arrived literally just dumped into the bag on top of everything!? I don't know how whoever packed the bag thought that was a professional way to do so!? Overall 3 stars because the food was pretty good, but I do not think I would order from here again -really because of the fries and they way they were dumped in the bag- felt very disrespectful.

Yelp
German Doner Kebab. OKAY. Initially impressed with the size of the Kebab when taken out of a nicely packaged box container. The Kebab was loaded into a large sturdy Pita Pocket and wasn't overloaded with Lettuce,Tomato, Red Cabbage or Sauce. However, once eaten the Kebab wasn't very fulfilling. With so many GREEK Gyro and TURKISH Kebab places in ASTORIA I'm sure you can find better. WALK DON'T RUN.

Yelp
Meat was straight up oil and was really salty. The flavor profile wasn't very diverse.

Yelp
Wow, I am just blown away by how incredibly delicious that London style kebab was! It completely satisfied my craving. Growing up with my parents owning a popular fish and chip shop in London, we often made doner kebabs, but this one was even more amazing! The only thing that could have made it even better is if they had better sauces. I challenge them to let me take over and create my own unique sauces for them to try would be a hit!!!

Yelp
I was really looking forward to trying German Doner Kebab which just opened in Astoria, Queens. However, after my experience there, I have to say that I was extremely disappointed. First of all, the fact that German Doner Kebab is a large chain was immediately obvious. The restaurant has a sterile, corporate feel that is completely at odds with the cozy, family-run establishments that I love in Astoria. The menu also felt very standardized and lacking in personality. But even putting aside my feelings about chains, the food at German Doner Kebab just wasn't very good. The kebabs were dry and overcooked, and lacked the juicy, succulent flavor that I was expecting. The sides were also a letdown - the fries were limp and tasteless, and the salad was wilted and uninspired.

Yelp
Love this place. The people working there are so nice. Food is fresh and great but one complaint. I ordered at the front today, the place was empty. I was given a number to take with me. Sat down with my daughter to wait for our order and i watched them give out bags to delivery people and other people who came in. After 20 minutes, I'm wondering where my food is. I walk up to the front, and the nice lady tells me it's on the shelf in front of the registers waiting for me to get it. No one called my number, no one told me it was on the shelf so it sat there getting cold. Now I'm eating food that is cold. If I was given a number, I was expecting to at least hear a number he called and I was paying attention. We love eating here but please be more mindful of people waiting for their food. Also, we have tripped multiple times on the step by the door.

Yelp
It was okay. I prefer the Turkish places instead. The fries were very good but their idea of cheese fries is different than what I had expected.

Yelp
Food was shit, service was HORRIBLE!!! It was a hot day and the AC was barely working. There was enough workers back there and it was not busy at all but they messed up our orders big time. All the workers there were a bunch of idiots and the manager there was the bigger idiot. She really did not know how to manage the workers or the restaurant. That place is overly priced with very poor service.Really sad to see a franchise restaurant go downtown hill like this because of poor management and workers.

Yelp
Service was terrible. We ordered spicy fries and received regular fries. Which is ok, mistakes happen. But when I asked the server if this was spicy, he looked at my fries and said it was. I had to go up and show the manager my receipt and the fries and asked if this was spicy. The manager then replaced my fries. Also the ac was turned off and it was super hot inside.

Yelp
Tried GDK overseas and fell in love. Been going to the American dream location for some time and was excited about Astoria opening. Food is great but just don't feel like it's better than the American dream location. Hospitality at American dream is also better. Overall 4 stars! Highly recommended

Yelp
I went to the Brooklyn bay ridge location. This place gives the local mom and pop shops a run for their offerings. My family and I tried GDK for the first time and it was a hit. Food was amazing. The sauces were on point. Highly recommend. My regular go to place is duzan and GDK is comparable for a little less $.

Yelp
I REALLY wanted to like this place. I love doner kebabs and German food in general so my hopes were extremely high. The place is very busy, but when I went in there weren't any customers at the counter. I waited a solid five minutes for someone to take my order, but instead of doing it at the register the waitress took me to a kiosk to order my food. It would have been faster to just do it at the counter, but okay. I waited nearly fifteen minutes for my to-go order to come out which seems pretty extreme at a "fast food" restaurant. I was hoping the food would be worth the wait. It wasn't. The kebab was extremely dry and lacked seasoning. It was like sawdust. I paid over ten dollars for my food and couldn't finish it. It was tasteless. I think the place is busy simply because it's only been open a few months and everyone is eager to try it. I don't think it has the potential for longevity, especially in Astoria where we have so many delicious food options. I'd pass on this one and stick to one of the food trucks on Steinway for a tasty meal.
