"A private home turned restaurant serving very traditional Okinawan dishes,"Tony describes. Tony had "tundaabun"  or multiple bite-size portions served in a lacquered dish of "sliced squid; swordfish wrapped in seaweed and simmered in stock and fermented sake; dried sea snake, slow-simmered; burdock root wrapped in pork loin, slow-cooked in hot sauce; taro flash-fried and dressed with sugar and soy; pork shoulder dredged in black sesame, then steamed."

I traveled with my partner for a short onsen vacation, and I was very pleased with the hotel. It's very peaceful and relaxing, the private onsen especially. The breakfast is not free as Google says though, you have an option when you can you can get breakfast and dinner but not automatically includes. There is a small town full of restaurants, easier to reach it with a car (40 minutes walk otherwise). I recommend it for romantic escapes!

Location is very nice, except there's a gravel road before reaching the hotel. It's around 10min drive from downtown so it's close enough.Hotel is old but quite authentic and highend. There's a nice bridge you need to cross before going to the main hotel area. There are 2 private onsen you can just walk in, they are right next to the river, very nice experience.there are some bugs around so i wouldn't say it's all clean, but you are next to the mountain so i guess cant expect too much.worst thing is i did not notice my booking which is $400 usd, did not include dinner and breakfast, which is very standard for a onsen ryokan. I had go out and buy my own food when i expected to be in a yukata and eating nice hotel food.

Really nice ryokan when we went to Yufu, onsen city 2hrs from Fukuoka by bus. From we arrive, the ambience are super nice and the staff very friendly. The private onsen with natural hot spring are refreshing even when we visit in summer. If you ever visit, please book with dinner as since the Kaiseki are super delicious with many local ingredients used.

We chose this gorgeous Ryokan because after backpacking in Japan for a month we felt like a treat to end our trip. It was a beautiful place to reflect upon our adventures. We hired a car so that we could explore the region and go into town when ever we wanted to (it’s located approximately 3km out of town up a hill). We bought a bottle of wine and snacks in the local supermarket and enjoyed a glass each evening in the garden. Sadly we were unable to experience their restaurant as they had not seen our email requesting this; however we found a some cute restaurants and cafes ate there instead. The hot springs really were 🥵 but great for our aches. Highly recommend as a beautiful private place to reconnect with your loved ones. It would be an amazing place for a wedding as everyone would be together and the gardens are so tranquil.

Good service, staff are friendly and helpful. The room is spacious and the environment is peaceful. There is a bridge connecting the room and reception area, the view is fabulous. We requested for taxi service upon check out and the staff promptly arranged it, much appreciated.

I travel all over the world this year, and stayed over 90 days in different types of hotel/resort, I would say, this one is the best I have so far. Completely exceeded my expectations for what I could get from a hotel. I drove here, there are some good restaurants like 8 minutes drive from the hotel. I booked very late, so I didn't get a chance to try the food at this place. Once I arrived, they sent my luggage to my room. I meant, I wouldn't call it a room, it's a 2-story house that I could use, with private bath, private hot spring, private yard. Free drinks in the fridge, and the free dessert was so good that I even drove to the store to brought a box home. Last and most importantly, when I left, I got snow covered on my car. I asked the staff to borrow me a tool so that I could wipe it. And he just clean up the snow for the entire car and open the door for me. I saw he started cleaning up snow for all other cars in the parking lot. This is truly above and beyond hospitality. I would recommend this place to everyone I know.

I stayed at “Yufuin Gettouan” with my parents and wife for one night from September 16th to September 17th. We checked in at around 5:30 PM on September 16th, unpacked our bags, and went out for dinner right away. Before going out, I set up my iPhone, tripod and cable on the balcony next to the private bathroom (more precisely, the balcony next to the bedroom) to take a night-time time-lapse video. To prevent the battery from discharging in the middle, I connected a spare battery and left it inside the room, and closed all the doors. (I happened to take pictures of this setup.) Then, about 3 hours later, at around 8:30 or 9 PM, we came back to the hotel, and my iPhone, tripod, cable, and even the spare battery in the room were all gone. At first, I thought it was taken by an animal because the balcony was outside even though it was a private bathroom, but all the cable and spare battery inside the room were gone, and the door was closed just as I had closed it before I left, so I had no choice but to think it was a theft I reported it to the hotel staff right away, but I was really shocked by the hotel staff's reaction. The staff didn't seem to care about the theft and just said that he can’t speak Korean, we should come back tomorrow at 10 AM when a Korean staff comes. My wife can speak very basic Japanese, and both the staff and we could easily use the translator, so the staff's response was really disappointing. Anyway, after many twists and turns, the police came, and I contacted them for three days to look for the iPhone, but as expected, they couldn't find it. During this process, I continued to track the stolen iPhone using the iPhone's 'Find My iPhone’ function. After 6 PM on the first day, the September 16th, the location was recorded as a road near the hotel, and two days later, at around 9 AM on the September 18th, the location was recorded as 'Kusumachi, Kusu, Oita', which was far from Yufuin. Then, from 11 AM on the same day, the location was recorded as inside the hotel again. And after that, the location tracking was impossible. Although I couldn’t say for sure, but I could suspect that it was the work of an internal employee through the location tracking, but in the end, the police were unable to find the lost iPhone, and the hotel simply responded that they could not provide separate compensation according to the hotel's internal terms and conditions without even a word of apology. While I was staying at this hotel, which has a private bath outside, someone broke into the room and stole my belongings, so all my plans for my first day in Yufuin were ruined, and I was so scared and anxious that I couldn't even sleep comfortably. Naturally, this result affected the next day, and for me, who has been to Japan dozens of times, it was truly the worst trip and the worst hotel I remember. I hope you all will be very careful when using this hotel, and I personally recommend not using this hotel. In summary, 1. On September 16th, the iPhone, tripod, cable, and even the spare battery that were installed in the hotel room were all stolen. 2. After the theft on the 16th, the iPhone's first location was on the road near the hotel. 3. After the theft, I was so scared and anxious that I couldn't even sleep, and of course, I couldn't use the private bathroom outside, and in the end, this day's trip was the worst. 4. On the morning of the 18th, two days after the theft, the location was tracked as being in another city. 5. After lunch of the 18th, the location was tracked as being back in the hotel. 6. The location was no longer tracked after the 18th. 7. The police searched for three days, but (as expected) the stolen iPhone was not found, and the hotel responded without even a word of apology, saying that they could not provide compensation according to internal terms and conditions.

As soon as we walked in, the welcome towel they gave us smelled like rag. 💀🚩Corresponding with them online before we arrived was difficult - not just a language barrier but lacks customer service and not friendly. Rooms look nicer and bigger in photos and the private bath in the rooms are sooo small, barely enough space for a child. There was a dead bug in our outdoor bath upon check in. Overall the vibes are creepy and dark. I don’t recommend staying here at all. I regret booking here :( Be aware that if you book the annex rooms you do not have access to the main building and vice versa.

Yelp
Yufuin Gettouan is located in the famous small town of Yufuin. Both this ryokan and the small town it's located in is worth visiting. We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay with a nice visit to town. Because we stayed 2 nights, they gave us different options for breakfast & dinner so no meal ever got boring. Although to be honest, I would've been okay eating the same kaiseki twice just because of how amazing they are :) How can one ever get sick of kaisekis! It's very common for places like this in southern japan to give you fresh wasabi and allow you to grate it at the table. It shows you how fresh the wasabi is.
