Their Kacchi Biryani is wonderfully fresh and not overcooked. The beef and goat curry are beautifully spiced. This little restaurant seems to do a consistent take out that is eaten by the Bangladesh/Indian community in Arlington. This is a very casual place meant more for take out or an informal meal. Very much worth the price.

Google
Must have= morog polao. The coral and shutki was good but very salty for me. They charge you 10% service charge which was okay to me. Though when we entered the restaurant, there’s none to serve us, neither the waiter later offered us plate or spoons. Overall the service is okayish( we called ahead ) but we were there for the morog polao which served its purpose.

The food was so good and service was great. We tried Hilsha fish, Ruhu fish, Beef curry, Mixed vegetables, Shutki vuna and Daal. Everything was fresh and delicious. Must try if you ever vist DC

Every week I find myself back at Gharer Khabar for authentic Bengali food—it never disappoints. Every dish is worth trying. Tino always takes great care to make sure my food is fresh and packed perfectly. I recommend this place to everyone I know. A little improvement in décor and cleanliness would make it even better.

I am extremely disappointed after ordering from Gharer Khabar today via Uber Eats. I’ve always trusted this place and frequently order from here, but today was a letdown. I was really hungry and eagerly waiting for my food, but when it arrived, the chicken was undercooked, and there was no gravy (even though I requested extra sauce in the notes). Additionally, the rice was cold, not up to the usual standard. What’s even more frustrating is the lack of attention to detail in preparing the food. My husband was very upset and said he will never order from this place again. When I checked the reviews, I saw that three other people gave 1 star within 45 minutes, which is concerning. The owner should really take a look at the quality of their service, especially when customers are excited and hungry to receive their food, only to get undercooked meals. How do you think they’ll feel? We will never order from here again until they improve their cooking methods and customer service, and, most importantly, pay attention to the notes when preparing the food, ensuring meals are hot and delicious.

I tried the Shorshe ilish and it was delicious. The owner was very friendly and explained things to me. Looking forward to coming here and trying more dishes!

Google
We ordered Kacchi biriyani, tehari, butter chicken, mango lassi and tea. There was no heater inside the restaurant even though it was a extremely cold weather. The Kacchi biriyani was okay, the meat was not fully cooked. There was a strong mustard oil smell coming from tehari. The tables were not cleaned properly. Every time we had to ask for services. We spent nearly $200 but not worthy.

Google
Must try place for Bangladeshi food. We ordered samosa, beef tehari, Chicken roast, borhani n tea. Tehari was missing the authentic flavor.. it was more like polao with beef but with the chicken roast it tasted awesome!! They gave us a full bowl of salad as well. Tea was also good. Asked for water several times n we were real thirsty. But was not getting it. Then we got it ourselves. The waiter was really smart and professional. But there is a room to improve the service. On our 2nd visit we ordered 2 morog polao, shami kababs and beef curry. Morog polao was just wow!! We bought extra shami kabab for takeout as we liked so much. Beef curry was not bad. We ate half of the beef n wanted to bring rest of it. I went to wash my hands n when came back it was already gone!! They should have asked us before cleaning the table if we wanted to take it or not. So these guys need to improve their service quality. We also had Hilsha curry for take out n it was good.

Yelp
I always cater food from here . Raja never fails me . Yummy Bengali food .Loved their chilli fish and goat Biryani . Cauliflower Rezala was yummy and so was the Raita .. Also their fish curry . Best was the chickpea ( Chotpoti) Appetizer.

Yelp
The owner hides information on food quality! Either they don't care about the customers or they are no longer interested in serving fresh foods. Please do not sell rotten and stale food items! Zero STARS!

Yelp
Wasn't impressed and believe they can do better and be more customer service oriented. Food was disappointing and bland.

Yelp
The Chicken Roast was amazing and highly recommended. Please do not miss that. Also try moglai porata. Service was okay. Family run business.

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Bangladeshi restaurant in NOVA, then you should definitely try out Gharer Khabar. This place is as close you'll get for home-cooked dishes. We recently catered their chicken roast and shami kabob and both were delicious. If you had chicken roast at weddings in Bangladesh, this dish will bring back the memory. Beef Shami kabob was great, too. We also tried the beef tehari and ilish eggs (shad row) and would highly recommend them. Lastly, the person we spoke to and worked with the whole time was very nice and accommodating (I think he's the younger brother, don't remember his name). This was our second time doing business with them and we were pleased both times. We'll definitely be back again to try some of their other dishes. Lol we ate so fast that we forgot to take pictures

Yelp
The food here is so good! My Bangladeshi wife and I come here anytime we visit the DC area. We usually get the chicken roast since the sauce (jhool) is so flavorful. They also have traditional Bangladeshi tea (cha) that my wife is a big fan of! The owners are very friendly and welcoming with us, and with other costumers.

Yelp
Called and asked specifically if biriyani was available and after placing the order, 20 minutes later we were told they don't have biriyani???? Went with another option but very very bad quality and experience. Left after having 2 spoons of rice The paneer was rubber and the gravy was yuck. Chicken was bones as if they specifically put the leftover pieces. Honestly super dissatisfied ‍
google avatar

Nazmul H.

Yelp
DISAPPOINTED!!! I tried their kacchi biriyani and tehari. Kacchi biriyani was trash and in tehari they just put literally 2 Tiny pieces of bones. Check out the picture. And all was some polau rice with heavy rose water. It felt like I was eating rice with rose water as gravy. Tried their Muglai parata. That was somewhat good. Would never ever go back. Fuchs is horrible. Microwaved chotpoti very bad.

Yelp
If you look at their website, they claim how their business was to help community. This is certainly not how they are in real life. I was donating food to homeless and thought I'd help them when their restaurant was new. I donated over $600 to help their business. My family and I were loyal customers to them. One day they were whining about some customer who was irrelevant to us and their passing even though we told them we were uninterested in the story/etc. However, out of politeness we listened to their negativity. One of our family member's went their often almost every other day or at least one time a week. So they profited a great deal monetarily. We notified them about this member's passing not a single word of acknowledgement. They promised yesterday that they would deliver food today. They backed out last minute. The woman/wife would whine also constantly about not having child(ren). Allah spared innocent soul from the selfishness of 2 parents. You can't be selfish and expect that God will give you kids. When someone cooks, there should be positive vibes which this place/individuals lack. Do your selves a favor and never go or order from here. You will remain healthy & happy.

Yelp
The food is always amazing there, and the staff is really friendly. The owner was a great help when I was trying to pick dishes to try. Make sure to try the kachi Biryani, and the morog polao if you looking form some really filling and flavorful rice dishes that just about everyone would like!
google avatar

Anika M.

Yelp
I gave them 3-stars because of how the place looks. But if you're looking for good home style Bengali food, this is your spot! They make amazing chicken curry and daal. But their tehari is out of this world! My husband and I love getting our home meals from here.
google avatar

Snayha S.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in, it smells like home cooked Bengali food which is lovely and very fitting given their name. My family ordered the kachi biryani, teheri, paratha, chicken samosa, and butter chicken. The food was made very quickly and everything was delicious. I will definitely be coming back again :)

C M.

Yelp
Very tasty food! Service was great! Fun to try food from Bangladesh! They helped us know what foods would be best for us to try.

Yelp
Stay clear from this establishment. We drove from Baltimore to Arlington area to spend the day and grab some desi groceries while there. We picked up groceries from next door in the plaza and since it was lunchtime and there aren't a whole lotta Bengali restaurants around the DMV area, we decided to give this place a try. I should have first looked at their reviews. The food was over a week old, flavorless, and the only flavor the Kacchi Biriyani (looking back, I'd call it RAJAKAR Biriyani) and the Morog Polao that we received had old spoiled oil and that stale smell. Meat was tough as leather shoes (both lamb and chicken). I have never tried to chew leather shoes but after chewing the meats here, I got the secondhand experience of it. They picked some senior, unsold meat from wherever they get their meats from. The man (lets not call him gentleman) taking order up front was rude and seemed pretty scared as he knew exactly what he was representing. The food was disgusting. A total tihS (spell backward) Show. We ate a few bites and were done with it and immediate regret started to settle in as we both felt sick within 10 minutes of eating these. The rest of our day was ruined. What I don't understand is, how are the owner dare to cheat customers like the way these people are doing. Is it not HARAM in their book? such a fuckarry. They are truly criminals and needs to be locked away as they are threat to society. They seriously on a mission to cause death to their customers. On another note, they sell Hilsha Fish curry but it does not come with any accompanied rice. You have to purchase a plate of rice separately. These crooks are out of their mind. BTW, the cooks in the back are all Hispanic and while most restaurants have Hispanic crew in the back, these guys were not trained on the food (not their fault, it's the owner/management's failure to train). Regardless of flavorless GOO they are selling, its also mad old and beyond expired. The US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) team needs to go in and SHUT them DOWN.

Yelp
I have been to this place number of times and my best friend being a Bengali, I have come to know their food and appreciate the flavors. As per him it's not common to have a Bangladeshi or Bengali restaurant and thus this restaurant holds significance. Over the years their food quality has gone downhill. Food has become more, greasy and unhealthy. One or two times I ordered Rui fish and I felt cold inside the fish giving me an indication that they take it out of refrigerator and just warm it. Even if they warm it, they could do a better job. Sometimes the Rui fish even smells. My stomach was upset last time I ate there. I was really fond of this place but I guess the owner don't care. Apart from the not so good food, the service is near pathetic and parking is bad too. This restaurant had so much potential but I am so disappointed.

Manoj S.

Yelp
This place does not even deserve one star, appearance unhygenic, we ordered take out and when we reached home to eat, it was already smelling bad, full of oil, it seems like they gave stale food. Very disappointed, VA Dept of health needs to do an inspection of this place if meat and fish is handled properly and the cooking environment. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE OR ORDER.

Nawreen J.

Yelp
We were very excited to find a Bangali restaurant and drove up 40 minutes to pick up our order. We checked the bags in the car before leaving and noticed they forgot an entrée and drink. When we asked about the missing item they said they didn't have all the ingredients for the item. At no point did they contact us to inform us of this, let alone offer a refund or a substitute. They simply let us walk out the door with an entire entrée missing and no communication about this. After being confronted with this they just gave a second order of rice (which comes free with all entrées) instead of something else similar. Everything else we ordered tasted average at best. Safe to say that we will not be going again.

Yelp
Quite possibly the dirtiest restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life. Grease and grime was everywhere and the bathrooms looked as though they had not been cleaned since 1982. The light switches were caked in so much filth that they appeared to be brown. I wonder what the kitchen looked like....

Yelp
I am absolutely disappointed with this place. I feel really bad leaving a bad review during this holy month but man this is NOT Bangladeshi food. Ppl are being ripped their money where the quality of the food is horrible. We got the tehari and the was NOT tehari. I know every place makes it different but this was literally just basmati rice with mustard oil drizzled on top with unflavored meat . Just horrible. Everything fried food from the buffet was a WASTE! The beguni was the worst! No seasoning thick batter. And the roast was the worst roast ever!! Not even close to being called a roast. Idk what that was. Considering the food was very pricey the customer service is horrible. We did all to go and initially ordered 2 roast but decided to add one more since we had high expectations for the food. They were so rude when asked to add another roast to the order. We are paying for it so why the attitude. Idk if he is the owner but the gentleman with gray eyes literally was huffing and puffing. Considering we got food worth almost $200. Also the place was pretty dirty and dusty. So definitely not going back and would not recommend to any Bengalis who are looking for genuine Bangladeshi food. This was not it. Go to Jackson heights.

Yelp
Being born /raised in Bangladesh and living in California for more than 14 years, I naturally have this high expectation on Bengali food. Hence, I become extra picky when it comes to desi food. I moved to DC last year and badly missed my desi go to places from Silicon Valley. I tried few home catering services here in DMV area but none of them were able to quench my thirst of BANGLA HOME FOOD. Until I catered from "Ghorer Khabar" for my baby's birthday. I must say, so many people forbade me to cater from there on my event. But I am so happy that I didn't listen to them. I was so impressed by their service and commitments. Raja bhai was so nice to take the order and generously discussed about the menu. Their catering policy is very feasible too. Most of the other Bangla catering services in DMV area do not have the delivery services. But Gharer Khabar was able to delivery the order on time without any hesitation. The food was so good! We had 75% non-Bengali guests at the event. So, we were skeptical about the spice level of their food. But The food we ordered was delicious! Thank God we had to go boxes for the guests. Each one of them ate 2 full plates and even boxed some food for them to take it to home. We ordered Kichuri, and even my infant baby savored it like a champ. We also ordered mixed Veg! l was surprised how less oily it was yet extremely flavorful. We noticed they were able to use all Bengali Veges to the mix Veg dish. We were thrilled to find Potol , Okra, lau in the mixed veg dish. The beef curry was top notch. We ate the leftovers till the last bit of it. It was flavorful, less oily, delicious and settled in tummy so well. On the event day we forgot to pay mistakenly to Raja bhai but he was so nice! He did not show any grudge and we were able to pay soon to him on the next day. We love love Ghorer Khabar and it is truly practicing making food which tastes exactly like "Ghorer Khabar". So happy we ordered from there.

Yelp
It's been a long time since I've had Bangladeshi snacks and street food like chotpoti, fuchka. I looked at their menu online and was sold. The inside of the store was clean to my relief (something I value these days). I brought fuchka, chotpoti, shingaras, daal puris and moglai porotas home. I devoured the fuchkas in one go and started with the chotpoti, then I had to remind myself to save some for later, since it was late at night. Love the tamarind sauce that comes with it, reminds me of home. We have yet to try the other food like biriyanis and bhortas. These snacks made me so happy.

Yelp
Kichuri: worst kichuri ever , not even closed to Bangladeshi famous cuisine. Too much turmeric. Over cooked rice, dont even use actual kichuri rice. Shorisha Ilsha: too much turmeric overwhelm the flavor of mustered. No flavor at all Daal : it was okay. Not too good not too bad. Again to much turmeric. Probably the worst Bangladeshi food ever in whole USA. Food was not fresh at all. Total disappointment and waste of money

Yelp
Love it! GK completely scratches the itch for Bangladeshi food in NOVA, over several visits (including during covid) the takeout has been excellent and really distinct from just "regular" Indian food. The fuska is my favorite, and also the eggplant and even the uninspiringly-named "mixed vegetable" are off the hook, cooked to my preference for heat, and remind me exactly of the flavors from my own visit to Dhaka, distinct from just "regular" Indian food. Fish curry is a staple, and is excellent, just be mindful of the bones (that's how you know it's fish). The place is bare bones (no effort wasted on cloth tablecloths or fancy square plates or stemware), and the warm welcome is something you may have to earn, but the atmosphere is perfect, and you can't beat the price! Get the desserts there or next door; after all, if you've come here, walk the plaza a bit to get a taste of Arlington's own (very) Little Dhaka!

Parisa A.

Yelp
this place has been a bangladeshi staple for over a decade. there aren't many restaurants like this in northern virginia; I hope they're able to serve the area for many more years to come.

Farah K.

Yelp
I'm maybe biased because I love fuchka a LOT and the pale in comparison panipuris found all over MoCo don't really compare. So needless to say I gobbled it up. The Mughlai paratha was amazing, one basket is enough for 2-3 people, depending on your appetite. We took some goat biryani and chicken roast home for dinner, which I found okay (I'm just not a general fan of these items) but my family seemed to really enjoy it. The food and the prices all get 5 stars. Yes there's oil, but that's just how Bangladeshi food is prepared sorry. The interior is really tiny though, and they don't seem to have proper utensils laid or anything of that nature. But I suppose since they are focused on catering more, that sort of makes sense..? Still a little more attention paid to adding more space/servers and attention to details, and it'd be a whole star better.

Lady E.

Yelp
Hi, this is a catering review. Never liked Gharer Khabar. The food is subpar, and without fail makes my tummy feel funny. However, Bengalis in the DMV loooooooove Raja, the owner of Gharer Khabar. Raja is a brand. It's not Gharer Khabar where people cater from, it's Raja. So, hear me out. My now husband and I have been planning a wedding for over a year now. The mehndi and wedding was during labor day weekend 2021. Raja Caterer was contacted maybe around the 12/2020 mark to talk about catering our mehndi. That's 9 months before the mehndi. We talked about him providing 3 staff to serve food and manage the Fuchka Station. We talked about all the food for 200 guests, including chafing dishes, serving ware, etc. Our parents (one set of parents who are regulars at Gharer Khabar) had a sit down with him to run through all details. The day of, the arrival time was confirmed. The week of, the menu was re-confirmed. So what did we get? We had Raja Caterer deliver food 2.5 hours late. He was supposed to be there around 5:30 to set up, he arrived at 8. He didn't bring any staff. The one guy who was about the leave was literally forced to stay by my planner to make hundreds of fuchka. He didn't bring any chafing dishes. People took food off of those hideous foil trays right from the table. All my other vendors had to push back their time to stay for our Mehndi. Not to mention, he brought 1 dessert, which was the wrong dessert. My aunty found a piece of Goat AND a piece of Chicken in our Kacchi Biryani. Never had a biryani with two types of meat. Most importantly, we had planned for everything to run smoothly so that our parents could enjoy their kids' mehndi event. HE SINGLE-HANDEDLY RUINED OUR THOROUGHLY CALCULATED AND METICULOUSLY PLANNED MEHNDI. He has no respect for people or their time, and frankly overall not a good businessman. We ended the night knowing 100% that our mehndi was a huge failure, largely in part for this man's sheer disrespect for his clients. Raja caterer knew that he had massively messed up. He arrived with the food outside, transferred to a staff member's car, and drove off like a thief. I'm thoroughly disgusted by Gharer Khabar and Raja. I sincerely do not recommend doing business with such unprofessional businessmen.

Yelp
The food was ok. It was wasn't great, but also wasn't horrible. When you're starving it's decent. The mango lassi was HORRIBLE! It was the WORST LASSI EVER!!!! I should have known it was going to be horrible when it was one of those premade lassis in the fridge. It was pretty hectic the night I was in there, so the customer service was pretty bad as well. Well, it was pretty much nonexistent.
google avatar

Helen Y.

Yelp
I ordered the Moglai Parata, Goat Curry, and Palak Paneer from this restaurant. The food here is very, very oily. It tastes good, but makes you feel kind of gross eating it. Although I had ordered for pickup, I saw that the restaurant and kitchen itself was not very clean; so maybe the COVID policy forbidding dine-in was a blessing in disguise. I enjoyed the food, but I will not be going back again.

Kelly L.

Yelp
Bangladeshi food is so unknown to the world & yet, in my opinion, the best cuisine in the world. It's a shame that this place is the worst example of it & people who go there will never know what true Bangladeshi food is. The menu is limited, the food is atrocious & no comments on how sanitary the place is. The service is subpar & is highly unlikely to improve.
google avatar

Saffana H.

Yelp
Failsafe order you can't go wrong with: 1)Chicken Roast (add pulao on the side) 2)Mughlai Porota/Paratha (have it with their milk tea) 3)Fuchka (decent for the area) 4)Weekend buffet has chana dal with kolija (liver) that's amazing - but generally, I am not a huge fan of the buffet. Simply amazing.

Aymar M.

Yelp
First of all great service by everyone in the restaurant, secondly the food quality is absolutely amazing. They have all different kinds of authentic Bangladeshi food and everything is very fresh. In my opinion this is the best Bangladeshi restaurant in Virginia. The owners will make you like home. I definitely recommend this restaurant

Yelp
This is my first review and all I want to say thank you to Raja bhai and apu for giving us such a great service. Now talking food; They never disappointed us. We ordered kachi Biriyani, chicken Roast, kabob, chop and many other items and everything was exactly how it should be made. We enjoy and gained some weight :). Just yum authentic Bangladeshi food.

Amit D.

Yelp
This is a Bangladeshi restaurant, which specializes in authentic Bengali food. I am a Bengali (from the Indian side of the border) and was dying to try this place out. 'Gharer Khabar' literally means 'Home Food'. It is certainly not like a traditional restaurant. This place is strangely authentic, and not always in a good way. I felt compelled to break down the review into multiple sections and score the restaurant on each of them. Food: (3/5) We tried the puchka, egg mughlai paratha, veg singara, goat biriyani, ariya fish, hilsa fish, and rohu fish. The food, in general, was very greasy. The rohu and the ariya fish tasted nice, but the goat biriyani had a stale smell. The puchka was our favorite item. Cost: (5/5) In spite of getting a variety of items, the cost per person was less than $10. Gharer Khabar is really easy on the pockets. Service: (2/5) It took a long time for them to give us the menu, and then even longer to take our order. Given the past reviews, we were already expecting poor service. We asked for a second plate of puchka, but that never came. The worst thing - we were served food on paper plates. Ambience: (2/5) This place had nice paintings and photos on the walls, but it felt like that was there to mask the rundown condition of the restaurant.

Harley S.

Yelp
I can't believe this place has been open a year already! What can I say? Still 4 stars. It's cheap, rich, home cooking, very vegetarian friendly, and now you can get it delivered. Would I give Gharer Khabar 4 stars if the prices were similar to other Indian restaurants? Not at all. This is more of a dive experience. But seriously I don't know what people expect with many dishes costing as little as $3, $4, $5. For what it's worth, my vegetarian college student can't get enough of this place. Still fans of the fuchka, the mughlai paratha (rich and greasy but tasty), the fish and vegetable curries, and the biryani with lentils. And did I mention it's cheap?

Corey D.

Yelp
They don't take or make every order they receive. Whenever I have to pick an order from this restaurant, they give an excuse to why they can't or won't make orders. They'll CONFIRM orders from a delivery app and when you call to see they've received the order they tell me "we're doing catering today", "we didn't receive your order", or "we don't have that idem" and they always just hang up and say call the delivery app. Their chicken biryani isn't all that good to be doing this. Waste of time

Yelp
Delicious food, Excellent Catering Service, Only feedback I have is to update and modernize interior and bathroom. We usually get beef tehari, chicken roast, Shami kabob, fish fry. Tasty and NOT overwhelmed with spice. Excellent balance between spice and meat.

Yelp
Four stars for food and value. Bangladeshi food has really grown on me after coming here multiple times. I get cravings for their "Chicken Roast" dish which is legs and thighs cooked in an incredibly flavorful sauce which is hard to describe but bursting with many savory spices. I always order an extra one to have later at home! There are several fish dishes which are all very flavorful choices also. My favorite is the Hilsa fish which comes in a sauce with spices that have hints of mustard. Truly wonderful.

Tanzina A.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Will not be back. We walked in and had to wait at least 10 minute before anyone showed up from the back. There was no sort of greeting... we ordered the food we wanted and the food was not that great. The other thing that stood out to be is how we were served our food with plastic utensils and plastic cups rather thn actual cups that you would otherwise get in other restaurants dining in. If you're in a hurry, and literally dying and need to feed your body something, maybe this is the place-- otherwise no. Won't be back.

Sujay N.

Yelp
Decent bengali food in the DC area, but less than perfect. Its a little hard to be impressed by a restaurant calling itself 'gharer khabar' when I eat better tasting bengali food at home. However, as one of the only bengali restaurants in the area, I commend Raja and crew for this venture. It provides a place for all bengalis who miss the flavors of home.

Rudy H.

Yelp
the food are nothing special. but I absolutely will buy again and trying their different items from their menu. cheap, decent portion sizes, bold flavors. I wanted to try their goat curry but they're out of it, so I got beef curry instead. I also get shutki fish (pungent dry fish 7/10), pulao rice (bland 5/10), mughlai paratha (7.5/10), beef curry (7.5/10). I will order delivery again next weekend, I hope they catch me a goat for the curry.

Pria'nka G.

Yelp
Ordered for the first time and was very happy with the order. My order was a chicken tikka masala and it was so good. Had a side order of rice too and rice was really fluffy and fresh.

Yelp
After a long time I enjoyed true Bengali food today at this beautiful place on the auspicious occasion of Durgastomi. I visited there with couple of my other friends. Our overall experience was very good. The food was amazing unexpectedly. It's was really "Gharer Khabar". Although we think the FUCHKAS could be better compared to the other preparations. The MOGLAI PARATA, SORSHE ILISH, SHAMI KEBAB and KACHHI BIRYANI was mouthwatering. We definitely will come back.

Yelp
Awful, awful service for only okay food. I ordered delivery from here, and was promised delivery within an hour. The food didn't show up. When I called Gharer Khabar, they said they just hadn't sent the food and just hung up on me. I had to get Yelp Eat24 to contact them - they'd likely have just pocketed my money otherwise - and force them to actually deliver the food. If Yelp Eat24 didn't have my back at that point, I'd have been out both food and my money! When I DID get my food - well over two hours later - what I got was good, but not great. The chicken roast curry was spilled all over the delivery bag and made a huge mess, but what was left of it was decent. The goat curry was more bone and fat than meat, though what was edible was also decent. The shami kabab and parata were decent. The samosas were, to their credit, absolutely excellent. This place seems to have a reputation for having awful service and okay food, and that was exactly my experience. I'll never order from here again.

Yelp
The food here is good. The covid safety is not. Walked in and was shocked to see waitress with no mask on, packed tables not 6 ft apart, And kitchen workers with their masks falling off their face and not covering their noses. I won't be back.

Yelp
Gharer Khabar is a hidden gem, not to be missed. Located in an international strip mall with limited parking, in a sort of (what I'd consider) no-man's-land near the intersection of Arlington, Mclean, and Falls Church, it's the perfect place to indulge in some cheap Bengali cuisine. There's all of about five tables in this tiny restaurant, but incredible food and friendly staff more than compensate for the lack of ambience. We shared the roast chicken and fish curry with rice. I had samosas as well, and Sahar had fuchka, which I did not try. The samosas are good. Big, but not oily, and with a flavorful vegetarian filling and crisp shell. The roast chicken is fall-off-the-bone tender with a spicy, hearty gravy. The style (not flavor) reminds me of Satay Sarinah's spicy grilled chicken (ayam bumbu rajak). The fish curry was on another level. I'm not a fish curry expert, but "wow" is my descriptor for this dish. A flaky, white fish (beware the bones) is simmered in a fantastic, mustard-oil based curry. I've never had anything like it, but can't wait to return for it. I highly, highly recommend visiting Gharer Khabar...the sooner, the better.

Yelp
These folks have upped their game since my last review. Food (for the dishes I've ordered) is tasty and the portions are decent given their relatively low prices. Mainly ordered butter chicken, daal, and rice dishes. I don't like seafood so can't speak to the quality of those dishes. Due to Covid, best to order over the phone and pick it up. I've never used Grubhub or any other delivery services they may use, so can't address the quality of those.

Yelp
This review comes from the bottom of my heart. I usually free ride on Yelp and only use it to read people's reviews without posting at all. I have taken special efforts to download the app on my phone (on network data)just to publish this review. First, the food is not a "tad" bit oily, as some of the over enthusiastic reviewers have endorsed, but its the oiliest I have ever eaten. Find attached a photo as evidence of this claim. One small cup of lentils had as much as oil that could be contained in one sixth of an entire cup. That is a ridiculous amount. Second, the ambience is not simply "modest", as some readers have coyly suggested. That's an immodest claim. Its the crappiest restaurant I have ever been to in the DMV area (and I've been to at least 30-50 restaurants over the last 4 years). Cramped, to the point of dilapidation, and absolutely third rate. I forgot I was in the United States of America. Third, the service was pathetic. I asked for a plate for my meal and the owner/manager looked at me as if I asked for his kidneys. Really, now. Sure gharer khabar may mean home cooked food, but at least have the decency to provide decent service. Going to this place was a mistake. Only positive was that this mistake didn't cost me too much.

Yelp
This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall type of a restaurant. I believe it is only Bengali restaurant in the NoVA area. We ordered the following: a beef samosa (filled with spiced potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, and ground beef) - the samosa was perfectly crispy and the filling was solid and slightly spicy; I would love to try out their veggie-version next time; Fuchka (mixture of boiled diced potatoes, chickpeas, sliced onions, and chilies with grated eggs on top) - little crispy bowls filled with diced eggs and chickpeas, you sprinkle some of the tamarind sauce and eat it in one scoop; this was just okay; Mughlai Paratha (egg stuffed slightly fried Indian flat bread) - sort of liked a fried quiche - this was spicy and egg-custard like; Goat Biriyani (rice-based dish with Bengali spices, fried rice, and goat meat) - the goat was quite tender and flavorful and not game-y at all; I wasn't a fan of the rice, though, as I did not like how it was spiced and cooked; and, Chicken Curry (chicken stewed in an onion-based sauce, flavored with ginger, garlic, chilis, and spices) - I loved this dish as it was quite tasty - very hearty and bone-in chicken - I just wished the portion was larger and there were more chicken. I would love to come back here to try out their Shami Kabab, Khichuri, Parata, and Chicken Roast. I would definitely come back here for their samosas and their chicken curry. +Goat Biriyani +Chicken Curry

Yelp
Being from Bangladesh & living in America my whole life, the name of this restaurant is a true reflection of "home made food". I have never met more involved owners in any other business who care about your experience & your feedback. The staff is amazing, the location is convinient, lots of parking but most of all- the food is so delicious I'm shy to admit that I keep licking these fingers!!! Highly recommended - go enjoy!
