Ethiopian food will always have a special place in my heart. Floral spices like cardamom mixing with savory and spicy profiles creates such a unique complexity that I am seldom able to find in other cuisines. Ghebre's is everything you desire from Ethiopian fare, done very well. However that's all they do. I greatly appreciate it but their selection is limited and they operate very much within their culture. Tea and coffee is served at dessert only which i can appreciate, but unfortunately their baklava goes quickly. Multiple occasions here i still haven't been able to order it. There are other Ethiopian places locally that offer the same, but this is still one of the best. Their dining area is open and mostly empty, consisting of 4-top tables only. On the topic of tea and coffee being served traditionally, this is the only place I've been to with appropriate serving vessels and accoutrements being brought out simultaneously. Pic related. One of the best for food and service, however environment and menu could have some improvement.

Our children get to choose a restaurant or meal where we celebrate their birthdays as a family. This year, our youngest daughter wanted Ethiopian, and Ghebre's came up in a search result as one of the good 'uns, and it didn't disappoint! We ordered five dishes for the seven of us, ate to the full, and we still had leftovers to take home! Now, that wouldn't mean much if the food wasn't good, but--oh, yeah--it was good! So tasty, so garlicky, so finger-licking yummy! And lick my fingers I did since it is common when eating Ethiopian food to use fingers as the utensils. The dishes were served on a large, injera-lined tray with more injera (a spongy and delicious flatbread) on the side. I've attached an image, though my cell camera doesn't do it justice. The next day, I just microwaved the leftovers in a large soup bowl, and it was like a savory Ethiopian dressing, aarrrgghhhh (drools in Homeresque fashion). Needless to say, we can't wait to go back!

We try to rest Ethiopia food in every city we visit & a was jabs down the best Doro Wat we've had anywhere... Service was friendly and already present... Fantastic! If we lived here we would go all the time!

Google
Delicious food, quick and excellent service. We tried the sampler and also ordered beef tips. Everything was perfect; the tibs were the most tender I've had (and we've eaten a lot of Ethiopian food!) and the cabbage and carrots were excellent- tender and flavorful. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious! Stopped in for the buffet before a soccer game... such amazing food! Seriously recommend it.

Google
Tried this place on a whim and was blown away with just how delicious the food was. The beef was cooked to perfection, not a single kernel of rice was overcooked, even the cabbage was scrumptious. The portions are large to boot. Friendly service and a warm, humble environment topped off the wonderful experience.

Google
This is the best Ethiopian food in the Twin Cities, in my opinion. The food is delicious, served attractively, modestly priced, and the quality of the ingredients is excellent. Very good service and a pleasant atmosphere - spacious and relaxed. I will be coming back often!

Google
Great vegan options, definite "veggie comfort food." Really like their spicing: more on flavor, not overboard on hot pepper. Enjoy their background music, positive catchy beats. Relaxed and friendly vibe, perfect after a long day or for weekend brunch. Ask for your bill when ready, they're not going to rush you.

Yelp
Ethiopian food is one of our favorites and we were so excited to learn from Citypages the opening of this restaurant. It is located across the street from Fasika and the outside of the building is decorated with an appealing, colorful mural. The windows were covered and it almost appeared as if not open. Luckily we tried the front door. Similar to other restaurants in the area, atmosphere is a dive that serves fresh and delicious food. We tried the Chicken Dorowat-served with 1 chicken leg and an egg. It is moderately spicy and served with injera and yogurt. My husband raved about it and said it is his favorite. We also tried the veggie combo which was tasty! Complimentary tea is served after your meal. Definitely worth a try!

Yelp
The Good: The place was clean and aesthetically appealing. The staff was nice. The injera was decent. Tastes like all the other injera I've had: fluffy, sour, and a little bit spongy. The Chicken Doro Wat was also good. The Bad: My friends and I decided to come here after we walked into Fasika and realized it was going to be a really long wait. We walked across the street and went into this restaurant. There were no customers there other than us. I got the spicy beef tibs with rice. The rice was one of the worst rice I've ever had. I think it was cooked alright but there was excess water like someone had poured water over the rice after it was cooked. Also, I was not impressed with the beef tibs. I expected it to be flavorful and spicy like all the other times I have had tibs in the past. Nope. Not here. I had to add my own salt and pepper and it still didn't work so I asked for some of their chili powder. They gave me like a tablespoon of it and I added the whole thing. It tasted better but not as good as I have had it at Fasika. Veggie Combo: My friend who ordered this said this was one of the worst veggie combos from an Ethiopian restuarant. And he likes Ethiopian food too.

Yelp
This was the perfect place to break bread with my new in-laws. There wasn't a better place to introduce them to our family, our culture, because the food (and the service) was excellent. Ethiopian-mom approved!

Yelp
The food was okay - a bit more home cooked than other Ethiopian restaurants in the area. This place though has lunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays for $10pp, which is nice. And they had a couple meat options and a few vegetarian. They refilled the injera pretty frequently but not sure about the others since we were the only ones in there.

Yelp
I have to say this review isn't going to be completely helpful to you. I am not really an Ethiopian food fan but this was my second attempt and I had hopes. Saying that, I was disappointed in both of our meals. I had the doro wot on rice. (I don't like injera!) the doro was ok but I just wasn't blown away. My wife had beef tibs. They were not flavorful, actually didn't have much flavor at. Anyway, I can't say I don't recommend it, however, we were the only table during an early Saturday evening meal time. Sounds like the place next door is much better and busier.

Yelp
This Eritrean restaurant is amazing . The veggie is something I crave for about once a week. I was on a short visit in Minneapolis and I stopped here after reading good reviews . The vegie plate was flavorful and well marinated . The spicy lentils are perfectly spicy while not ruining the overall flavor . The service was awesome and I have been offered complimentary tea :) Will definitely visit again if I come to Minnesota

Yelp
I have entered this place three times and have been ignored or unnoticed. Questioning if there is anyone working, I've sat at the bar with the menu in my hand and have walked out, confused all three times.

Yelp
We used Ghebre's to cater for an event of about 40 people. It was WONDERFUL. First, they were very kind to work with when ordering and flexible to our requests. Everything was delivered on time and fresh. The most important part--the food was AMAZING. I personally have had Ghebre's a number of times with my family and we have always loved it and had great experience (I am a vegetarian, husband is not. I loooove the Disir, my husband loves the spicy lamb tibs). This same quality was noticed by all of the guests at the event as well. About half had never tried Ethiopian food before and are now huge fans. The other half who had had it wanted to know where it was from because they plan on going there for more. Will definitely keep giving them business and suggest others do as well!

Yelp
I felt like I was cheating on Fasika by going here, which is right across the road from Ghebre's, but once I saw the much simpler menu and significantly lower prices, I didn't feel so bad! If you have never had Ethiopian food and you're not sure what to order, choose the vegetarian platter that gives you a generous taste of each vegetarian dish, which comprises most of the menu. The service was outstanding, and our waitress even offered our table complimentary tea after our meal. The food is traditionally eaten with the right hand, but they offer silverware if you want it. But it tastes the best using the injera (spongy somewhat sour pancake) to pick up and eat the food. I will definitely bring my out of town guests here next time to introduce them to East African food!

Yelp
I went there for dinner last night. This is now one of my favorite spots for Ethiopian/Eritrean food. I had the veggie combo platter. It was seasoned just right. Everything was fresh. The servers, who I think are the owners) are friendly and hospitable. The portion was huge- I had dinner and enough to take home for two more meals. My two dining companions also had the veggie platter, and enjoyed it as much as I did. I'll be back!

Rachel F.

Yelp
Ghebre's is a fine Ethiopian restaurant. The vegetable dishes are vegan, which is great for some, but also means they are lacking the extra flavor from butter. Overall, the meat dishes on our combo platter were very tasty (alicha, a beef stew, and doro wat). The veggie dishes were just meh: the collards/spinach were watery, the mesir wat had barely any flavor, the cabbage and carrots were fine, but all three were under salted. The space was clean and the service was great.

Yelp
Everything is delicious. We have been here several times, with big and small groups and we have always left very happy. The food is made with love by the family who owns the restaurant. If you are looking for freshly prepared Eritrean food, this place is a must.

Yelp
This is a really excellent east African place just across the street from the beloved Fasika. The meal was a great experience all around, with a light calming atmosphere, charming staff, and delicious food. They were eager to please, and at one point a server brought us fresh napkins and took away our dirty ones. They checked on if our lamb tibs and beef stew were too spicy (no - perfect), and brought two extra pieces of injera for each entree. The small pot of hot tea was also delicious and subtly cinnamon-y. We ate our food to the quiet sounds of Somali chatter and a calming soundtrack, looking at the scattered art on the walls. Everything was just exactly what we wanted.

Yelp
Great place with a simple menu for newbie's to Ehtiopian food!

Yelp
This place is awesome! Wonderful, cozy atmosphere and super-friendly service. Food was delicious and wine pour generous. I will definitely be coming back to this hidden gem to try more than what we had (lentil & greens platters). Hope this young restaurant becomes a long-term neighborhood fixture.

Yelp
I picked up lunch to go on Friday, thinking that I'd eat half and save the rest. It was too good to put down! Try their chicken and spinach the first chance you get. Great service here too.
