Where to Drink Astral Margs in Denver | Eater

"Downtown Lafayette’s Ghost Box Pizza started as a pop-up during the pandemic, and in 2021, finally found a permanent home in a remodeled house. Brought to diners by the team behind STEM Ciders and Acreage, two other cornerstones of the Lafayette dining scene, Ghost Box offers both baked Detroit-style and wood-fired pizzas, as well as sandwiches, salads, and shareable apps. There’s a quaint patio for outdoor seating, a spacious dining room and bar with TVs to watch sports, and a basement with more seating and arcade games. The Ghost Marg (which can be ordered as a 32 ounce to-go option that serves eight) is made with Astral, agave, and citrus. In tandem with the tequila brand, Ghost Box will also be donating to Habitat for Humanity through April." - Rebecca Treon

Fantastic experience on all accounts, easily! The pie was great and I had wonderful recommendations from the bartenders and servers, helping make the choice of so many great options a little easier. The service is something that really stood out and I have to highlight because it was not just one, two or three helpful staff members but absolutely everyone that I got to interact with was warm, helpful, made it a fun atmosphere and it was just very clear that, the people working here all have a strong value in treating others with care and patience, as well as kindness and understanding. The food tastes as if it is made with true love/commitment and the place is clean, well organized and thought out for functionality, but still welcoming and inviting. Well done, Ghost Box! Thank you for a lovely experience. Big shoutout to Taylor and the other bar staff for not only their exceptional service but their noticeably calm demeanor in managing a multitude of people and tasks at once. Needs to be said! The staff here are AWESOME.

Google
Great pizza with great service. Will definitely be back next time we're in Lafayette. The Detroit Style has great quality ingredients and a great taste. Some of the best in the Denver area we've had so far. Super friendly staff with a great local atmosphere.

While this place is generally pricey, the lunch special offer is a great deal. For $16 you get a small one topping pizza and a drink. We opted for a small Detroit style with artichokes, and a typical draft cider. The pizza was pretty good and a generous portion. There weren't a ton of artichokes so that could be improved. The cider was delicious as always (my fav is off-dry). Update: Stopped by for happy hour. They have a decent menu, the cheese sticks stand out as a pretty good deal. The $6 marg is also tasty

Love the way the outside seating is situated. Very cozy with the fire place. Service was good. The bacon cobb salad was very good and I would get it again. The chicken bacon ranch pizza was good but next time I’d ask to swap the buffalo sauce for traditional tomato sauce on the pizza. Overall great place to go with friends or family!

Google
What an incredible place to come visit. My partner and I already love Stem Ciders, so what a nice change in scenery with just as good of food and drinks. The apps that we had were over the top, and the Detroit style pizza was no disappointment at all. Thanks for an incredible first visit, we will be returning again.

Google
Popped in on a snowy evening to catch dinner with friends while in town for an event. Restaurant was decently full but we got a table for 6 without much trouble. Seems like a very family friendly place with the number of kids running around. Food was good, pizza was well baked, added chicken portion was actually a decent size. Pizza took maybe 15-20 minutes, not as long as they had said it would, so that was an added bonus. Service was attentive but not overly present, my preference. Would definitely return if I lived in the area! We each had plenty of leftovers to take home.

We stopped by Ghost about 1 year ago when we were in the area after Christmas service. The entire fam liked it. We stopped by again with everyone, including the newest addition (daughter in law). There were seven of us. We were greeted and sat right away. Emma stopped by to introduce herself. She gave time for us to look at the drink menu and came back to take our order. Drinks came while we discussed what we wanted. The group decided on button mushrooms and bruschetta as appetizers. We ordered three pizzas, the Chicken Bacon Ranch, Sausage and Shroom, and the Stuffed Chicken and Spinach. My bride ordered a Berry Spicy Ghost. It was spicy! I enjoyed my sip, but it was too spicy for her. Make sure you like heat if you order. Our youngest got a Ginger Shirley. My sip of his was delicious and he had no complaints. I got a Howdy Beer, it was light and good. The others got some Stem Ciders. They enjoyed their drinks too. Emma was awesome at checking in and making sure things were going well. She was super nice and helpful. The appetizers were shared and all agreed they were yummy. The pizza looked yummy when they came out. Each of us had different opinions but all enjoyed each one. We tried, but still took some home. Our entire family enjoyed the meal a year ago and again today. If we are in the area, we will be back. Not sure how much longer Emma will be there, she made our large group feel like she was happy we were there and that we never needed anything. She will be great at teaching the youngins when she graduates!

We’ve been a big fan of Ghost Pizza for quite some time, but today we had gotten delivery and it was not good. Cold pizza, ok .. I warmed it up. I ordered a Margarita pizza with meatball toppings for my family. When I opened up the box I noticed it hardly had any sauce and only 4 pieces of meatball. Paid $50 for a pizza ($9.00 was for delivery, tip was $5.34, tax another $3.71 and there was even a space for more money for the kitchen). Not sure what happened to one of our favorites? We couldn’t eat more than a slice since it was dry and had no flavor. Total waste of money. We had to throw the rest out. Totally disappointed. We revisited Ghost Pizza and found that our last experience was a mishap. We ordered a small meatball Detroit pizza this time and it was very good. We’re updating our review.

Yelp
We came by for lunch on a Friday and had a nice experience. We sat outside and appreciated that some of the patio was shade covered! We got two pizza lunch specials - one Detroit style and one wood fired thin crust. Both pizzas were way bigger than we expected, and we barely finished half of the slices before we were full. The leftovers heated up great the next day! Both pizzas were good but we slightly preferred the Detroit style. The wood fired crust didn't have a ton of flavor, but the cheese on both pies was super flavorful. A bit pricy but we'd come back for the lunch special again.

Yelp
Solid 4Stars from this Yelper! Good service and performance a was great (I really liked the Detroit style!). Go on the right day of the week and you can participate in Trivia Bingo and perhaps luck out and win a $10.00 gift card like yours truly did! Worth the stop when in Lafayette!

Yelp
Came in for lunch and they were short staffed as we waited 35 minutes for our pizzas only for half the table to get their pizzas and waited another 20 minutes for the remaining pizzas. Detroit pizza with ricotta - the Detroit style pizzas were definitely better than the thin crust pizza. It was crispy on the edges and fluffy on the inside. It was a little disappointing to see only 6 small dollops of ricotta considering it was an extra charge. Thin crust pizza with mushrooms and sausages - the garlic cream sauce lacked garlic flavor. The mushrooms were very good and honestly the star of the pie.

Yelp
Great service and food! We did the pepperoni rolls, house salad and lg margarita pizza

Yelp
Zoey greeted us at the door with a genuine smile. She and Taylor were there throughout the meal and are both top notch. We had the wood fired pizza. I can't say enough about the sauce (mwah!), but the crust, cheese, toppings-- all fantastic. They didn't overcook the crust which can be tricky to do with Wood fired pizza. It was perfect. Ghost Pizza is a favorite of my aunt and uncle, and she took me here for dinner. I'm new in town, and was so impressed. I'll definitely be going back!

Yelp
Well 3 months later I get a response that basically blames door dash for the issue. It wasn't door dash' issue for a poor quality pizza and it wasn't door dash' issue for not calling me back after my vm. No worries though, they are now looking in to it now. I still say avoid this establishment like the establishment. There are plenty of better places for pizza.

Yelp
Worst pizza I ever had. No taste, like eating a piece of cardboard. Took forever to get it. It was the sausage & mushroom with white sauce. And it cost us $33.49 with tip. No one should go there.
google avatar

Claudia B.

Yelp
The only thing holding me back from giving this place five stars was the indoor atmosphere. It reminded me of a high school cafeteria. We begged for outdoor seating, but to no avail. There were also a couple blips with the service. It took multiple requests for more napkins and, more importantly, we had someone in our party with an allergen and we were served our salad with the allergen right on top. Other thank that, the pizza was amazing and just as good the next day. The crust was the way I like it; chewy and crunchy without tasting like a cracker. The sauce had a rich flavor and there were a decent amount of toppings. Definitely worth a visit when in Lafayette!
google avatar

Yelp
Yes please. Incredible. The wood fire pizza is fire. The staff is friendly. And the flat iron red pepper is a must have for the pizza

Yelp
The O.G. Pepperoni pizza was incredibly tasty. I placed my first order here for pick up and everything ran smoothly. When I arrived to the front desk to ask for my order, the team member that helped me was very kind. The right song was playing at just the right moment because it got me dancing while I briefly waited for my order. Good vibes/good energy/quality ingredients. Will definitely make this a once a month pizza order!

Yelp
I saw the ratings for this place and have been wanting to try it for months! I finally visited last week & have already been back once more. The patio has great lighting, perfect TVs for watching the game, their staff is friendly, and the drinks were excellent. My first time, I tried their Roseytuck Mule & a takeout order of meatballs, both were absolutely delicious! The second, I had to have their mule again and tried their happy hour calzone.

Yelp
Took a drive to Lafayette to check this out. We came for the pickle pizza (I know...) and were pleasantly surprised. It was a good little get away from Denver. We asked about the pickle pizza and the server told us they might be 'out'. She double checked and let us know it was still available (phew). We also ordered the sausage and shroom (wood fired) and carbonara (Detroit style). The pizzas looked amazing when they came out and I tried the sausage/shroom first - I thought it was lacking seasoning/flavor and so did the rest of the table. I didn't taste garlic and the sausage was bland. Next up, Detroit style. This was more dense than other Detroit style pizzas I've tried, but was crispy and flavorful. I give this a B+. I saved the pickle pizza for last. I was hesitant about the thousand island drizzle, but it worked with all the other ingredients. This was my favorite out of the bunch! Overall, the space was unique and comfortable, the pizza was 'not bad', but the prices were a bit high for what we got. There was some confusion about the lunch deal too, but I should've read the fine print. This place is worth a visit and the patio would be a great spot to hang out in the summer time.

Yelp
We stopped in on a snowy evening to give this a try. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The place is a little bares bones, just didn't seem super comfortable but its modest. We were excited to try the gluten free crust as my wife has to eat gluten free and its one of the best we've had. Overall it was a bit salty and we'd ask for less cheese next time but it came with lots of good veggies on the veggie pizza. I tried a Detroit style potato and rosemary, that was a major miss. I would not recommend it. I didn't taste any rosemary and there was really nothing but dried out dough and salty cheese, hardly any potato. Next time I'll try the wood fired and hope its more like the gluten free was. We also had half winter salads and those were quite delightful, highly recommend the salad.

Yelp
Nice pizza place in Lafayette Co. Servers were friendly. Had ham & pineapple, and pepperoni pizzas. Grand kids & grand parents loved it.

Yelp
we were excited to try this, but COSMO's won out once again by being reliable. Ghost Pizza closed early on a Saturday night?? plenty of very nice staff on hand, but they had already packed up the kitchen because they thought things were too slow. we hurried over as soon as we got off work, but we can't get some pizzas 40 minutes before closing on a slow night?? it would help if you just said you closed at nine instead of making promises of 10, that you can't keep. so we made the drive to Cosmo's, who were even less busy, but stuck to their schedule. at least there are options... NEXT!

Yelp
Extraordinary pizza with superb service at a fun place to during done time Pizza is crunchy with lots of sauce and a proper amount of cheese Good pizza place highly recommended Worth the trip and time coupled with reasonable pricing try it is my suggestion
google avatar

Yelp
Good Detroit style pizza! My husband and I love Detroit-style pizza so when we heard about this spot, we knew we had to try it. We ordered it to go on a Saturday night - got the spicy pepperoni + the margherita pizza for game night with family. The spicy pepperoni was delicious with the ricotta and the margherita also had good flavor! Love the crispy crust. Only downside was that the crust had gotten a bit hard since we ordered it to go and didn't eat it immediately. I think it would have tasted a lot more fresh out of the oven! Still good pizza though! Next time, I'd love to dine in to get the full experience!
google avatar

Naji S.

Yelp
Get ready for some crazy prices! We were shocked when we saw a $20 small margherita and a $14 burrata (that we ordered and which was poorly executed: dried-fruit flecked bread crisps?! alongside over-doused balsamic tomatoes and pesto?! Don't ruin good burrata people!!). Then the pizza: we went for the traditional wood fired because we thought the prosciutto/arugula option sounded best, but a bad choice. Crust was decent, cheese was melted, but the prosciutto was thick and VERY COLD, not making for a tasty treat. $50 for 2 people to eat a small pizza, one app and one beer.
google avatar

Yelp
Very yummy Detroit style pizza. Pepperoni and sausage. Amazing flavor and a cute place. Went on a Friday afternoon and got seated right away. Very friendly staff
google avatar

Doug B.

Yelp
Ghost Pig deep dish was my favorite! Not at all too spicy despite the ghost pepper description. Other things crust were very good, too. And I appreciate that they were very accommodating to our wheelchair accessibility needs
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
Buyer beware on pricing. We asked if we could get a menu recipe of a "wood fired" crust as a "Detroit style crust." The waiter said yes but didn't tell us this meant it would be rung in as a create your own.... So just changing the crust meant the pizza went from $22.95 to $34.70. I really like the food and this is a total shame that we probably won't be back soon.
google avatar

Madeline S.

Yelp
Came to Ghost Box the first time the other night. I got bruschetta to start and unfortunately the crostini tasted completely stale and was actually hard to chew. We ordered the Med pizza and it was pretty good, kind of like their version of a Greek pizza. It wasn't out of this world amazing, but it wasn't bad either. The ingredients said goat cheese though, and it really tasted like mozzarella. I would have loved some big pieces of melted goat cheese. Think that would have made it extra delicious! The restaurant itself is cute. They have a nice outdoor patio with a fireplace, bar inside, plenty of tables and I saw they have a fun game room downstairs too. This seems like a great place for families and great for all ages. I will be back to try some of their other items. They seem to have a lot of unique pizzas that I would like to try.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Service A+ Space A+ Drinks A++ (especially the super spicy berry marg, omg) Pizza, not our favorite. The wood fired pizza didn't have enough flavor including the crust. It really needed salt. We got the potato rosemary pizza as well as a cheese and they just didn't have much taste. We also got the chicken Detroit style pizza which I think we all didn't like. We hadn't had Detroit style before but really didn't love it. It's like thick focaccia bread with pizza toppings. We did very much enjoy all of our appetizers and thought the chicken rolls were a clear winner. I also have to say if you have a big group this is a great spot. If you are bringing kids don't forget quarters so they can keep themselves entertained at the ms Pac-Man table. We will definitely be back for apps and drinks!
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, Chicago (thick crust) or oven baked (thinner crust, but still chewy). They have a wide variety of fresh toppings to choose from. Quality cheese and homemade crust were both flavorful. Service was good even on a busy Friday evening. Restaurant was clean, patio was pleasant and heated with gas heaters. Nice ambiance.

Ian W.

Yelp
I have ordered from this place many times. Local pizza. Always good. They just recently updated their website. Which is a no go. A lot of bugs. Tried calling. No answer. Such a shame. Employees are great. Business model not good. Guess I'll order somewhere else.

Pat K.

Yelp
So disappointed. Sausage and mushroom, hardly any toppings, no sauce, all crust, no flavor.
google avatar

Elena R.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night and the ambiance on their outdoor patio was perfect! We got Cheesy Bread for an appetizer which had a really good garlic flavor and their Detroit Style Pizza. It was so delicious! The sauce and toppings were very flavorful & the edges had a nice crunch from the melted cheese. I would definitely come again.
google avatar

Yelp
GBP serves up some the best pizza I have had! And this includes NY pizza in NYC. We are pretty snobbish regarding pizza (my wife is a New Yorker) and GBP is legit. The interior is warm and inviting and the service is great. Everything comes out hot and is very fresh. We have also had the meatball and pepperoni roll apps. Both are on point! Their red sauce is some of the best I have ever had. I would LOVE the recipe! The pizzas are made in a wood fired oven with just the right amount of charring on the crust. We have only had the thin crust style but they do serve deep dish Detroit style.

C J.

Yelp
Great pizza (go for the Detroit style, it's what they do best). Lots of fun drinks on the menu (I recommend the berry spicy marg). Staff is super friendly and ambiance is great.

Yelp
I went with a group of friends recently for dinner to try this new spot in Lafayette. The space is huge, with a decent size patio and there is even a room in the basement with a few arcade games. Service was very friendly and I really like what they did with the open kitchen area, the painted glossy back bricks are very sharp looking. I am not as fond of the cheap tables and chairs, and it might help to find a way to divide such a large room to make it feel less cold. It's interesting that this restaurant was a result of the pandemic.  After the first shutdown, Acreage came up with a pizza menu easier for carry-out than their regular one and it was a big hit. They are back to their regular menu and decided to open Ghost box pizza since the pies were such a success. They offer both wood-fired and Detroit-style, small (serves about two people) and large.  One of my friends loves the Detroit ones, but another thought the potato-rosemary was too rich (it looked heavy, but then, it's not totally surprising). I got a veggie Neapolitan style with fresh mushrooms and it was good.  The ingredients are top quality as expected from the Stem-Cider team.  There's also a nice selections of cocktails, as well as wine and ciders (of course!). Cool option for pizza in Lafayette, if you don't mind the somewhat sterile atmosphere.

Yelp
We stumbled on this pizzeria today and so glad we stopped here. Great location, great food, great service, great atmosphere and great drinks. The pizza was wonderful and prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Simon B.

Yelp
Food was pretty generic bar food and pizza in my opinion but the service and atmosphere was really great. We stopped by on a sunny spring day afternoon and was able to score a nice table in sun/shade outside on their patio and overall were not disappointed. Great beer/drink list and the food was decent, just nothing out of this world. They have TV's inside to watch sports if that is your thing!
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
Normally I'd be praising Ghost Box but not today. Ordered two Detroit style pizza, one mushrooms, spinach and sausage, the other bacon ranch. Our spinach mushroom sausage came out topped with tomato sauce tasting like Chef Boyardee! Disappointing for sure, the mushrooms were straight out the can and were so rubbery and wormlike my wife had to take off the pizza. Not sure why the cheap ingredients are now the norm, but sad. Hopefully this is will change as we love the pizza!
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
boo-yah again, but less enthusiastic. (It's more of a 3.5 STARS not 3 STARS) I've (now) had Ghost Box Pizza a dozen and a half times. They have good pizza, do not get me wrong. It's good, and sometimes it's great, but that is the haunting thing. It is never consistently great. We've had a few experiences that leave us in high spirits, however, we've more so had experiences that leave us shocked by the absence of flavor from our pizzas. It's frustrating, because we really want it to be the level we know it can be every time! We keep gambling on it for this reason. Other amazing pros of Ghost Box Pizza: - a great, friendly staff - a sweet atmosphere inside and out - an amazing Ranch recipe (by far the most important) - a wide menu of classic pizza, detroit pizza, sandwiches, salads and more - an easy to use online ordering platform for to-go orders In conclusion, don't let this review spook you! I'd recommend giving it a go at least once.

Nancy S.

Yelp
Pizza is good and service was excellent thanks Taylor ! We will be back for game night . Sounds fun
google avatar

Caroline Y.

Yelp
This spot serves good Detroit style pizza, thin crust pizza, and sandwiches! The atmosphere is trendy and cute. We tried the Detroit style Margherita pizza, which was great! It was thick crust and had crisp cheesy edges. Note that they have gluten free crust and vegan cheese for pizzas. They also have vegetarian/vegan sub options and gluten free bread! If you're drinking expect a full bar with beer, cider, wine, and cocktails. There is street parking and a few free public parking lots close by. Remember to bring a few quarters for the tabletop video game in the corner!
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
This location has changed hands a bit but definitely give it a shot with Ghost Box Pizza. The space is light and bright and the menu is diverse with sandwiches and both Detroit and wood-fired pizza options. We had the happy hour cheesy bread which is huge. My son enjoyed the arcade games in the basement too. Legit pizza available in restaurant or take out!
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Visited this new place in Lafayette last night and it was supper yummy. We ordered the Mortadella & Melted Onion Detroit style pizza. It was really tasty but I didn't read the full description and it is a EVOO and garlic base so it has no pizza sauce. Still delish! Just wished I had registered the no sauce part. Next time I think we will try the Spicy Pepperoni! I also got the Tangerine Cream beer and it was very god. Could taste vanilla notes and the tangerine. Great with this pizza! Service was quick and nice! Definitely check this place out. I'll be back for sure. I'm saying 4 stars for now just because I'd like to go back and try a pizza with their sauce. How can you really judge a pizza place without the tried and true pepperoni?
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Really strong new pizza place in Lafayette. I have had Blue Pan Pizza (Detroit-style, and widely considered among the best of any pizza genre in Denver) and the fact that I can compare Ghost Box with Blue Pan is itself a kudo. Excellent, excellent pan crusties on the edges and corners especially. It is a bit thinner than Blue Pan, and a bit dryer also. I don't mind the dry croutony crust crunch which other reviewers unfamiliar with the style might--but there does seem to be a tad less water and/or oil in it, which is reinforced by the fact there was no major oil residue left in the pan (Not that this is health food, but suggests there's not a wanton excess of oil.) Great cup pepperoni and char, and also had the chicken and bacon ranch which had sizable chunks of both meats with the requisite sauces, a good combo that I'm seeing at more pizza places generally. I saw some early FB and Google reports that this pizza is smaller and more overpriced than some. Sure, compared to Dominos and Blackjack it is more expensive. Even the 'smaller' pizzas are substantial and filling, and costwise we checked out at about $10--11pp for our pizza (intentionally overordered to have some to take home). The only demerit was when we received the Toast pay console--we were presented the bill with a 25% already added to the total as a default amount (which I could choose, or not, to accept--but the fact that it was baked in and presented as default meant many diners not reading closely would just click 'OK.' The 3 tip options presented were between 25 and 20%. I get that tipping is important (and I *chose* to tip a custom amount of 20.8%)--but this presentation effectively adds 10% to everyone's bill, and needs to be fixed for customer transparency. This review will be 5 stars when that issue is remedied.

Yelp
Definitely a unique pizza experience. Loved the service and interior. I wasn't a fan of the potato pizza which I was really excited about but the apps were good and I'd definitely try it again just different pies.
google avatar

Raevin R.

Yelp
Service was a little slow but he food was good. They have really great specialty drinks, I really liked the one with glitter in it! :)

Yelp
Here's your chance to get some great Detroit Style Pizza. This pizza itself is slightly thinner than the normal Detroit Style Pizza I'm used too but that doesn't mean their pizza lacks flavor. Overall the food was great. The Pepperoni was awesome and the Chicken & Bacon Ranch was really good too. They were out of larger pizza dough for their Detroit Style so we had to order multiple smalls which worked out because we got to try multiple flavors. They were also out of the IPA I tried ordering, but once they work out some of the new business kinks this place is going to be a gem for sure. Glad to have this great pizza option now for some Detroit Style Za!

Yelp
I went to Ghost Box last week for the first time and it was really great. I went there to do trivia mostly but I got some pizza and drinks as well. Everything was delicious and the servers were very nice.

Nancy R.

Yelp
I took my grandson for an early dinner there last night. Here are the positives: our server Olivia was great, very attentive. The wings were very good and the pizzas were good as well. However, one of the pizzas was made with the wrong sauce so a new one had to be made. This was pretty annoying since my grandson was pretty much finished eating before my pizza arrived. This was the SECOND time this has happened to us at this restaurant, so we will not be going back. Let me also say that it was not busy. I could see the guys making pizza and they were clearly interested in the football game on TV. Olivia apologized several times, it was not her fault, she said it was the kitchen's mistake. My bill with tip was $98! You would think that management would have done something to make our experience better. What a disappointment. Way too expensive for a lousy experience.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, food, and prices. I had the kölsch and as a light beer drinker, I loved it.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my visit here. Regarding if the pizza was good or not...I added a photo lol

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't been here sooner! Just what the area needs! The pizza is good, we had the cheesy bread, spicy pepperoni, and the prosciutto.. all were delicious! What I was most impressed was were the cocktails! Most pizza places don't have the greatest drink options.. I'm a big gin drinker and the gin sipper was awesome!! Family friendly, a little on the pricier side for pizza but definitely worth it. Would also add that I don't think it would be as good for takeout.
