My birthday weekend at the Ghost Light Inn and Stella restaurant was supposed to be relaxing. Instead, it turned into a chaotic, money-wasting circus that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
Dinner at Stella started off on the wrong foot thanks to our waiter, Brendan, who greeted us with all the enthusiasm of someone being forced to work unpaid overtime. I was surprised cause by yesterday’s social media post — Brendan was an exceptional waiter…
The entrées tasted good, but for $45, I expected something more substantial than an appetizer posing as a main course.
After my husband had two Stella beers and I had two cocktails — which for the record, wouldn’t get a toddler tipsy — we attempted to order dessert and a final drink to end my birthday dinner. Instead, we were abruptly cut off with zero explanation. No conversation. No reasoning. Nothing. We weren’t even sitting for more than 1 hour. And when my husband asked why we were being cut off, things escalated in a way I still cannot believe: staff told us they were going to call the cops on him. Over asking a question. It was unbelievably hostile and unnecessary — and in my opinion, wildly unprofessional.
But the disaster didn’t end there. The valet situation at the hotel pushed this whole debacle into surreal territory.
We entrusted the hotel and valet staff with our brand-new BMW. When it was returned, the back door window had been left wide open overnight in the middle of snow and rain storm — soaking the interior, the seats, the panels, everything. What made it worse wasn’t the damage itself but the response. The hotel and valet staff offered no explanation, just confusion and hollow apologies that felt more like they were annoyed we even asked. We ultimately filed a police report because someone had to take the situation seriously, and it certainly wasn’t going to be them.
In my personal experience, this was one of the worst hospitality failures I’ve ever encountered. If you value your celebration, your sanity, or your vehicle, do yourself a massive favor, avoid Stella and the Ghost Light Inn entirely. They managed to turn a simple birthday weekend into a 24-hour disaster.
