Where to Eat Mussels in Boston | Eater Boston

"There will probably be a line, but it will be worth the wait. The mussels are available in a white wine sauce or with red sauce. You’re in the North End; go with the red sauce." - Terrence Doyle

Everything was so fresh and absolutely delicious. Exactly what I was craving! The Giacomo sauce is flavorful and velvety. Highly recommend the frutti de mare with the giacomo sauce. Really enjoyed the key lime daiquiri!

I've only tried one dish so far, so I'll leave it to evaluate more precisely on another occasion. The atmosphere is very beautiful, cozy, the prices are fair and the dishes are quite generous in size. I always walk past the door and see that the restaurant is always full, so I recommend making a reservation. The desserts are really tempting, although I didn't try them, I was very curious to try them on my next visit. The service is great, fast and efficient, everyone is very friendly. They have 1 gluten free pasta option, which is relevant to me.

Google
The Lobster pasta is great and full of sea flavor. Spaghetti with good texture, you can taste with the Lobster and Mussels. Lobster is fresh and tender, really delicious with pasta. The main door is located at the back side, not by the main road. You will see people hanging on the bar to enjoy the food. The atmosphere is relax and fun.

Giacomo’s ristorante has the best Italian cuisine in Boston! The table at north-end is always difficult to get so I decided to go to Melrose this time. No matter what you order, all dishes are flawless as always.

Google
Amazing food staff super nice I don’t know what these other bad reviews are about because every time we go there everything is always amazing! And we have been going there for a while. Obviously 5 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
This restaurant was in our radar for a long time and I can say after one visit I would not go back nor I would recommend it for good food (maybe if you want a drink). Let's start with the good things: atmosphere. Now, what is important in a restaurant: the food. Totally "meh". I ate a risotto that was on specials with no flavor. The taste of frozen peas was very notorious and took over the whole dish. Quantity is not important if the dish is not good, so I would not listen to the reviews that praise the portions. I will always look for quality over quantity, which this place does not deliver. For the service, I hate when I am still eating and servers start picking up the table. "No pressure" they say, but in the meantime let me take everything from the table so you feel so isolated and uncomfortable that you will only think about leaving this place. Eating while there is a person in front of you with the food already boxed is killing the mood for an enjoyable dinner. Definitely, not recommended unless you don't have anything else to do and you want to be overcharged for food. Finally, for a restaurant that charge $34 for a risotto, I would say: invest in good salt and pepper shakers. Using the containers you buy at the grocery store shows the little care this restaurant puts into their customers. Overall, if you are the type of person who loves overpaying for food and feeling that you are being kicked out while enjoying a good atmosphere, this is your restaurant!

Google
This is the third time I have been here and this is my favorite restaurant!! I have been in the restaurant industry for 35 years and I must say this is the best! Tanya is a great waitress, and she makes you feel like home and part of the family. The calamari is the best in the country...melts in your mouth. Prices are great and you always have a huge bag of leftovers.. if I could give more than five stars I would!

Michael Pham

Google
Good food, good service and the atmosphere was lively. The only criticism is that the portions on some of the items were small. Still, you're getting north end quality for half the price. The wine list is on the smaller side but a steal! Eg A bottle of Belle Glos Pinot is $48(TW sells for $50), a Jordan Cab from Sonoma for $75(TW $60). Definitely a recommendation, 4.5 stars.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Staff is nice! Super cute on the inside! A little over priced and menu is a little small for my liking but overall recommend!

Yelp
First off I had not been to this location in quitye sometime in Melrose, MA. At first everthing looked the same then out came the bread which was the first giveaway that this was not owned by the same people in Boston. This resturant use to have the best bread, then came the dinner which i had rabe sausage and pasta and I could not eat it as the rabi was so extremely bitter and the sausage had no flavor at all. I wish I knew that they sold this location as I would have gone else where. Lastly, when the server asked me how it was I said it's just ok she said ok and walked away.

Yelp
A lovely small Italian restaurant nestled in Melrose's downtown! I met friends here for dinner for a Fundraiser for MAAV (Melrose Alliance Against Violence) and was so happy to see them participate in something like that! We ordered martinis from the celebrity bartender, mine a pumpkin martini, and then ordered food. I always try to order what a restaurant is known for so under "House Seafood Specialities", I went with the mussels and calamari over homemade fusilli 'Giacomo style' (lobster based red sauce with a touch of béchamel) absolutely delicious with a generous portion of seafood and pasta plus so reasonably priced at $25!! It was very loud so it was tough to catch up with friends but it made me so happy to see such a big turnout for such an important cause! We're already planning another dinner here soon!

Yelp
First time had the Chicken Marsala, and it was simply amazing so much so that we had to go back. However, the second time it did not have any flavor whatsoever, and we were disappointed.

Yelp
Our first time there. We had an early reservation, seated right away at a lovely table by the window. The bread and water were provided. No options on water, which was ok. The bread came over and it was small and one piece for each of us. No olive oil was provided. We ordered garlic bread and fried mozzarella. The fried mozzarella was perfect, crunch on the outside and goey on the inside. The garlic bread was a hunk of bread, garlic on top and a big knife to cut it with. Very rustic and not what I was expecting. The entrees were good, lasagna, eggplant parm and pumpkin tortellini. All entrees were good but the portion size on the tortellini was small. About 10 pieces. Dessert was nice, a chocolate lava cake. Well presented it was delicious. Service was good. So its a good place to eat if you want a red sauce Italian restaurant. Nothing exceptional at all, but solid.

Yelp
So my main reason for my trip here was the cannoli martini! And let me just tell you this tasted just like it and lived up to call the hype!! Presentation was to perfection and screamed cannoli right as our waiter was bringing them over. It was super filling I will say!! We just had a small app but I would love to get back to location to try dinner menu, it looks amazing! It felt like you were at an Italian restaurant in the city perfect date night vibes.

Yelp
Typically, pasta feels heavy, but Giacomo's has hit the spot with making their sauces light and still creamy. We added a chicken cutlet to the fettuccine with peas and prosciutto for more protein. The lobster ravioli was light and tasty. If you like lobster, get this. The calamari is a must get. Our server was super nice and accommodating with the 3 kids we were with and super quick with the drinks and food. The restaurant was casual and slightly dimmed. It is definitely bigger than the ones in Boston so better suited for larger groups.

Yelp
Fantastic local Italian restaurant. The cocktail menu is on point. Service is attentive; even on a Friday night. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. The seafood platter (for two) looked AMAZING. Huge lobster surrounded by other amazing seafood. The wine menu is delicious and affordable. We got a bottle of Duckhorn Cab for only 36$. House salad was delicious. Lightly dressed. The chicken Piccata was crisp and lemony and delicious. The lemon fettuccini with scallops and shrimp was also delicious. And the pasta was of course; Al dente. The chicken Parm was HUGE and delicious. We also ordered a platter of the broccoli rabe. Nice and spicy, but a little bitter due to the size of the stems.

Yelp
Giacomo's is one of the most consistent Italian restaurants around. I love the chicken Parmesan. I have tried just about everything on the menu and it is all delicious. The service is always awesome & it's really nice inside. Great, strong drinks as well. The meatballs and fried mozzarella are my favorite apps!

Yelp
Had a 6 o'clock reservation. I got a text 10 minutes before that our table was ready while we were parking. Got in the restaurant before 6 o'clock. Had to wait 20 minutes on the bench. The host calls us up saying it's ready. Then we spend 15 more minutes standing up waiting. The fried mozzarella was solid. We both got the fig manhattan. Nothing fig about it. Pretty sure they just gave us a regular manhattan. Food was just okay. The waitress was great.

Yelp
First time at this location. The appetizers antipasto and chop salad was really good but the main courses were bland. The lobster with calamari in red sauce was bland avd the shrimp in red sauce over pasta as also no flavor the pasta linguini abd the fettuccini pasta was over cooked. No garlic flavor. The service was very good. I gave only three stars because of the flavorless pasta dishes.

Yelp
This was our first visit to this location, have been to the sister restaurant in the North End. The atmosphere was vibrant but very crowded and equally noisy. Got a table for 6 in the back which was more spacious and less noisy. The service started off a bit slow but we had a great waitress, very friendly, funny and attentive. We ordered several different meals so we had a good sample of the menu as a party of 6. The food was ok at best, not super tasty but ample quantity. We will probably give it another try but will not hurry back. If you want to avoid Boston for Italian, Petrillo's in Peabody is head and shoulders above in all facets.

Yelp
Decided to try the Melrose location (we usually go to the north end and sometimes the south end location). Had reservations on Sunday at 5pm. Came in and the place was packed, even the bar. Highly recommend making reservations if you plan to eat earlier. By 7pm there were few empty tables and no wait. There is street parking in front and they have a big parking lot in the back. This is a plus compared to their other locations Service was attentive and friendly. Food was good but not the same quality as the north end location. But still delicious and plentiful. We got the large calamari, clams linguini and 2 Fra Diavolo FruittiDiMare linguini (very generous with the seafood compared to other places). Seafood were all very fresh.

Yelp
I wanted to love this restaurant 100% and be super thrilled to come back. But I can't. It was good. Was it Northend good? No. Was it authentic Italian good? No. It was solid American Italian food. Let me explain my experience here. I went here with three folks. Made a reservation. On a Saturday at 7 PM. There was no need to do that. The place was relatively empty inside, and we were even able to get outdoor seating. Without any special accommodations. We sat down and waited a little bit, but I did see the way to running around like a chicken with his head cut off, so I was OK it was sitting outside and waiting. He came to our table and he was very, how do I say, Boston? Hey how you doin..He says. Can I get something started for ya? We opted to start with a large order of fried calamari. Which, when it came out, was really good and a very ample portion. I think you could even use it for a main meal instead of an appetizer it was so large. We got a bottle of wine as well. It seem like a better choice with three folks as opposed to individual drinks. Came out to be the same price. We ordered the Fra diavolo seafood, the The lemon fettuccine shrimp dish, and chicken Parm. Nothing fancy, routine items on the menu it seemed. They didn't take very long to come out and didn't all come out at once. Again, our waiter was super busy with all the tables outside for himself. My chicken palm was not steaming hot, it was warm, even hot, but not as if it just came out of being cooked. More like it probably had been sitting under the heat lamp for a few minutes. Maybe while everything else finished cooking? The lemon fettuccine dish looked really pretty and my friend said it tasted really good. Hubby got the seafood fra diavolo. Again, it looked really good, but he said the sauce was relatively underwhelming and not spicy enough at all. We were never offered grated cheese or hot pepper to put on our food if we wanted it. I don't know if they even have that there. Also, when we got our bread for the table? Three small pieces that we used with olive oil. The bread was really good. But we could've used more and I waited never asked us if he wanted some. Oh and all it was a positive experience, but just not exciting enough for me to really go back again. Paragraph plus, parking and getting into the restaurant is kind of weird. They don't tell you that the entrance to the restaurant is on the side in an alleyway. So we had to walk all the way around the building only to find the entrance was literally right where we had parked!!

Gretchen G.

Yelp
So inconsistent unfortunately. Last time I was here, I swore this was my favorite restaurant - ordered the mussels and garlic bread to start - mussels were all facing upright, neat presentation and plenty of them. They were the best mussels I've had in a long time - I raved about them for weeks until I came back with a group to order them again - tonight they were loosely dumped in a bowl with literally HALF the amount than they gave just 2 weeks ago, and at least half of them were bad! - awful intense fishy odor and taste, and they shredded like chicken salad - I literally spit mine back into the bowl so I didn't get food poisoning!! I love seafood and I know when shellfish is spoiled. I even ordered the same white wine/garlic sauce and this time it tasted like pure butter and jarred minced garlic (jarlic). Mortified to recommend this to my group after raving about them only to have such an awful experience tonight.

Yelp
I've enjoyed Giacomo's for years. Mainly on special occasions like Valentine's Day. But this place is great for even just craving good Italian food. Brought the hubby here for father's day. I do always recommend reservations when a place offers it. The place was mid-full around 630 on Sunday, but it did get packed very quickly after. Also, be mindful, that the bar is small, with only a few seats available there. decor: is your usual somewhat dim romantic Italian decor. Drinks: I got the 454 which was very good and hubby got his usual raspberry lime Ricky which he loves. Food: we started with the arancini balls, much smaller than anticipated but very tasty. The sauce was good, it is a slightly sweeter sauce than what I like but still good and I know hubby loved it. For entrees I ordered the Lobster Ravioli in white sauce - soooo yummy, pasta cooked perfectly and you def get chunks of lobster in most bites. Hubby got the chicken piccata.....but chicken parm came out. Oops, no problem was corrected seamlessly by our waitress. We also tried their tiramisu which was very very tasty and not overly sweet, just enough. However, they drizzled caramel sauce over??? Not sure why. Price is very fair given the amount of food. and of course, we recommend and will be back again and again!

Yelp
The Medford location was not as great as our experience with the North end location, food was mediocre. Service was really okay they rushed us to be seated and rushed us to order and rushed us to get out, don't go on a Friday evening!

Ayatt A.

Yelp
Giacomo's serves absolutely impeccable italian food at an affordable price. While the atmosphere isn't as inviting as the north end, you don't have to wait in long lines, but still get that amazing , authentic north end quality. I highly recommend the fried calamari to start, and you cannot go wrong with any of the entrees. I loved my chicken piccata. They also make an excellent dirty martini. And we had the fried banana cheesecake with strawberry ice cream for dessert. You have to pay them a visit the next time you're craving Italian!
google avatar

Joie T.

Yelp
So much better than the North End location! Highly recommend the fried calamari, lobster ravioli, and frutti di mare in fra diavolo sauce. Can't wait to come back.

Greg K.

Yelp
Sigh. Our family has always been big fans of Giacomo's but we went there over the weekend and had a very poor experience. The service was especially inept: inexperienced unsupervised server; multiple mistakes with our order; appetizers brought out at the same time as the main dishes; poor quality clams (my favorite thing to get there); bizarrely bad iced tea; mediocre calamari (something that has always been very good there). There were some dinners that were good as we remember them but the chaotic service really is a deal breaker. We will not be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the chicken parmigiana and garlic bread to go. Was ready in 20 minutes. Staff were friendly. Chicken parmigiana was really good. Garlic bread was not what I was expecting, I didn't like it due to the underside being too browned for me. Food was hot. Complimentary bread was a nice touch.

Linda Q.

Yelp
The food and ambiance were great. Our server was excellent . I would definitely return. We had veal and chicken parm , both were very tender and flavorful. The calamari was delicious and cooked to perfection!

Yelp
In the mood for Italian food? Don't want to drive all the way to Boston? Giacomo's in Melrose will satisfy your Italian cravings and have you in carb central. Everything I tried from appetizers to entrees was all so good. Fried calamari melts in your mouth. It was cooked perfect and I guarantee you that you won't hurt your teeth chewing. My entree was huuuuggggeee. It can feed 3-4 people honestly. After all the apps and cocktails I had, sadly I didn't eat much of it and packed it for home. Pasta always taste better the next day so I wasn't mad. Over all, Giacomos will be my go to when I'm in the mood for GOOD Italian food. PERIOD!

Fernando S.

Yelp
Really has gone down hill. Our house sauce was bland and watery. The problem with this location is the consistency which they do not have. My last experience there I left half of the food on the table . ( I have been a regular for the last 4 years ) afraid to say I won't be going back and or at least for quite some time. Quite disappointing.

Yelp
Great service and great food. Our entire party loved their meals. The standout was the pumpkin pasta. I got the chicken Parmesan and it was a very hearty portion. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Thought we'd try Giacomos's in Melrose. The reviews on Yelp looked pretty good and the pictures of their food looked phenomenal. We got there later on a Friday night. I will say the tables are a little close together but wanted to try it out. The hostess seated us after a few minutes even though the restaurant was full. We had Melissa for a waitress. Ordered an Apple Martini. Was very good. There was artisan sourdough bread on the table. Nothing came with it. I assume the olive oil already on the table is what you eat it with. Freshly baked. We just ordered our entrees as it was pretty late. I ordered the Chicken, Broccoli and Ziti and hubby Veal Parmesan. Entrees came and they were DELICIOUS! Very, very good. Sauce good, veal tender. Chicken tender and slightly browned, pasta cooked perfectly, very light cream sauce. We were just finishing up and the busgirl was taking way the plates and by accident dumped over my Martini. My phone that was on the table got drenched, my purse on the floor, etc. We used our napkins from dinner to soak up the mess. Melissa came over and said is there anything more I can get you? I asked if the busgirl was getting another drink. She said "I cant get you another whole drink". But honestly more than half my drink was spilled all over the place. She replied, "well it was a mistake, right?". I just looked at her after she said that, not believing that was the reply she had. I replied yes of course it was an accident, but I paid for a whole drink and was lucky if I didn't even drink half of it! No "I'm so sorry", "no could I get you another drink", no "could I take the drink off the bill". Just "is there anything else I can get you? Meanwhile, the busgirl came over and apologized several times. Then Melissa came back over and asked me if I knew how to make an Apple Martini. I just looked at her. She said the bartender left and she would have to make it. Now mind you, the entire restaurant was packed. She came back shortly after with a whole Martini and said "thank God the bartender came back". She never apologized once. The right thing for Melissa to have done is to do is to apologize, even though she had nothing to do with it, and ask if the customer would like another drink or the drink taken off the bill. It's a drink, and not worth losing a repeat customer. Melissa made the wrong decision in dealing with the accident. Instead, she made me feel like I was trying to get something for free. Needless to say, Melissa received NO TIP. And all this was going on with another party one foot away from us. So not only did we feel uncomfortable, I'm sure the party next to us was uncomfortable as well and this ruined their dining experience. Yes, mistakes happen. Food comes out undercooked, overcooked, drinks spill, etc. It's how you handle the situation that matters.   The food isn't the problem here. It's excellent. This place gets 5 stars for food. A we eat Italian...A LOT! I will say I called today 10-30-21 and spoke to Manager Nick. He apologized for the experience and said he would address it immediately. He was more than accommodating which changed our mind on going back. I'm sure this was a one time thing, and anyone loving authentic Italian food has to give this place a try! 5 Stars for the food. 1 Star for our waitress........Its unfortunately Melissa doesn't have one once of class.

Yelp
Giacomo's had been recommended to us when we moved to Melrose but we were very disappointed. The food is very simple American Italian and it was loud and crowded with families, even in the later evening. The clam chowder was no better than what you get in a can from the grocery store (go to Cala's in Manchester-by-the-Sea if you want excellent clam chowder) and the scallops were breaded and baked. The third visit, I asked if they could pan sear the scallops and they did and they were excellent - why not have that on the menu?! It really seems like a great place to go if you have a big family with kids and enjoy American Italian food. There are far better options for a good authentic Italian meal with better ambiance if it is just a group of adults.

Yelp
i always loved giacomos in the north end and it makes me so happy they have one in melrose. i love melrose. so i go in on a nice date on a friday night and all staff seemed pretty nice and pleasant everything was 10 out of 10 until suddenly....................they gave us dishes that were absolutely disguisting!!!!!!!!!!!!! all caked up of chocolate shit!! i nearly fell off my chair. then we get some drinks and food and it was really good very authentic and great. what i am about to say will sweep you right off your feet you better be sitting down. while we were eating and not finished............the bus boys and waitress asked us 10 times to take the plates away!!!!!!! im sitting there like are you fuckin dick'in me?? you are really rushing us to get out of here for what the place isnt slammed and i almost chewed their hands off from them trying to take the food out of my mouth!!!!!!!!! never going here again going home in disgust. has anyone ever heard of good hospitality anymore?!?!?!?! fuck this place

Yelp
Have been to Giacomo's in Boston, but never ventured here, although it's close by. We were lucky to snag a reservation for 4 on a Saturday night. Didn't know there was a parking lot next to the restaurant as Melrose parking can be a bit challenging. There's a large community lot behind the buildings across the street. The place was jammed with a full bar area and lots of people waiting. The cacaphony of conversation and merriment was almost deafening, but what was actually deafening was the host screaming out people's names for their tables. A little acoustic treatment would be welcome. No wait for us and we sat in the back part of the restaurant with a clear view of the busy kitchen. Our server was perfect- helpful, proactive, offered some welcome advice and several tastes of different wines. Look up "great Italian server" and you'll find her. The food was mostly a hit with a caveat. My brother and law and I had the Frutti di Mare which was offered with a choice of Pesto, Fra Diavolo, Red, Scampi, or Giacomo (Lobster based red with a touch of bechamel). Our server recommended the Fra Diavolo and Giacomo sauces. I was on the fence- so she offered a mix of both! The Frutti di Mare was tasty included the usual clams, mussels, shrimp and a few scallops. But both of us agreed the amount of seafood in this was not enough. Lots of pasta though. Either add a nice piece of fish to the dish or add more of the other seafood- like 50% more. And I'm not even a big eater. Other dishes were similarly lacking in portion size. The shrimp and scallop dish while delicious could have been a bigger portion. The veal special was a combination of veal and some vegetables blended in pasta. the pieces of veal were 1/8" slivers. You get the trend here. Pricing here is very reasonable- but the portions (excluding the pasta) were lacking. Service was outstanding. The noise made conversation a challenge. 3.5 stars rounded up because of our server.

Yelp
Giacomos has the best calamari. The fry them with hot peppers as well which compliments the calamari perfectly. It's hard for me to eat it any other way not. This is how it's done. The fruti de mari can be a bit messy, but its worth trying if it's your first time. I would just stick with the mussels and clams pasta. I also usually get the half diavola and half giacomos sauce, but the 100% giacomos sauce is started to grow on me. Might just get that the next time. A must try in boston!

Yelp
Love Giacomo's. Have been to the other location in North end and loved it. This was just as good. Can't go wrong!!

Yelp
My friends and I went here for dinner two months ago. Thankfully, we made a reservation in advance since the place was packed. For an appetizer, we got the sausage arancini. The appetizer came with 5 arancini covered with tomato basil sauce. The arancini was very good but I thought the tomato sauce was a tad sour. For entrees, we got the shrimp & scallops in pesto sauce and chicken marsala to share. The shrimp and scallops in pesto sauce was very good. The pasta was cooked al dente. It had a lot of pesto flavor which I liked. The chicken marsala was served over linguine and came with lightly breaded chicken, prosciutto, mushrooms in a sweet marsala sauce. It was wonderful! For dessert, we shared a tiramisu and molten chocolate cake. The chocolate cake also came with vanilla ice cream, diced strawberries, and whipped cream. Both were delicious and not overly sweet. Portions were generous. Definitely a hidden gem in Melrose!

Yelp
Ordered takeout of linguine w/ clams in pesto sauce and chicken penne w/ broccoli. That Pesto sauce was heavenly! Chicken was very moist and buttery. Big portion that I had a left over meal for the next day.

Yelp
Excellent service, Great prices and the food was perfectly seasoned. Definitely will be returning soon. North End dining without the hassle of the North End.

Yelp
I don't get the hype. I've ordered from here a couple of times. The first time was not bad. Good enough for me to go back a few years later, though not good enough for me to crave it or want to go back sooner. But last time the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the chicken piccata and it was super boring. I know that it isn't a flashy dish to start with, but done well it is fantastic and one of my favorites (the one in Italian Express Pizzeria in Eastie used to knock my socks off). My father ordered a lemony pasta with seafood and asparagus. It was terrible. Neither one of us liked it at all... It was actually embarrassing for me because my dad was visiting from down south and was hoping to get good Italian food while in the northeast. I figured that Giacomos was a classic and would give him what he wanted, but he could get better pasta closer to home that this...

Mary H.

Yelp
Food is good. Service is good. Atmosphere ok. Bartending service could improve. Server requested a mocktail for a guest and she had no idea what she was meant. Server had to tell her what to do. A good bartender knows how to make a tasty drink without alcohol. A lot of people don't drink alcohol for many reasons. Bartender also gave me wrong wine. Her excuse was she couldn't read the label because there was not enough light.l, under the cabinet.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered take out and it was absolutely delicious. We had the pumpkin ravioli yummy. Will for sure be ordering take out again.

Bob ..

Yelp
Such mediocre food. Avoid it and go somewhere else. From the stale bread to the tasteless sauce, Italian can be so much better

Yelp
You get a lot of food but it is really bland. It is also pretty noisy so the space was terrible for my parents.

Yelp
The reviews were right, these chefs know how to cook! We started with the arancini app, which is what we typically begin with and they were different than I've ever seen. They're mini balls! The outside was nice and crispy and the inside was flavorful, but there just wasn't much of it so it was just different than the the regular sized arancini balls I'm used to. Let's get to the star of the show! Chicken Marsala. What a rich and perfect sauce, tender chicken and linguine. Totally succulent. Hubby said his chicken broccoli penne was good, but he liked mine better too! Keeping the pandemic in mind, service was super slow. But our waiter was busting his butt, moving fast to tend to his tables. I was impressed with his energy and efforts and tipped appropriately. The one star off is for a combo of slow service (which is understandable, but detracted from the evening just the same) and the decor. The inside could use some updating. It looks like it's out of the 80s. And the music was so bizarre for dinner service. I think it was classic rock! Thought there isn't much ambiance, we will certainly eat here again and again and again and I will certainly keep ordering the Chicken Marsala on repeat!

Yelp
Easy ordering and pickup experience. You call them up, give them an order, a name, and a card number and they give you a time estimate. Food was waiting at the side door host stand. I signed and was out in no time. We were in a marsala (chicken/veal) mood and these dishes didn't shine, but it's possible that we should have just ordered something else because everything else was great, including the bread and chop salad. It was filling, and dipping the meat in the sauce at the bottom helped, but I'll probably order something different for next time.

Yelp
I only ate here once but it was delicious, classic Italian food. We enjoyed our dinner. Nothing special about the look of the place.

Yelp
Idk what the issue is but the last three times I've come here somethings been off- whether it's the food, the service or both. We've had several waitresses and they're forgetful at best, downright negligent at worst. The last two times we went and ordered they never brought bread, never refilled our waters, didn't check on us. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but honestly I won't be going back. The food the last few times has been off. My partner ordered the veal parm and it was absolute mush and the side of pasta was a joke. Anyone can make parm at home and it would be better. They clearly pre fry all their parms and then just slather sauce and mozzarella on top and bake it. Even if they just tossed it into the fryer for 30 seconds my god- it would make such a difference. The calamari the last time was so over salted too. Do the cooks try anything before they send it out or they just wing it and pray? Come on guys.

Yelp
We've always loved Giacomo's, it's a solid restaurant choice. For years we patiently waited in line and huddled up in any available seat at the North End location. My husband and I now have a couple of kids and can't phantom the trek to Boston, search for North End parking, and waiting for an open table with two little ones in tow. Now comes Melrose with everything we need : easy parking in the back, ability to make reservations on Open Table, and all the great food we love. Our usual(more or less): fried calamari, butternut squash ravioli(the creamy mascarpone sauce is boss), pasta dish(usually one with seafood/frutti di mare). At this location we usually add the Italian chopped salad to the order. This time around we got the kids chicken cutlets and they ate portions from what we ate(calamari and pasta). Once we got our order in, they were super fast as well. Service was especially impressive given overall restaurants lately have been slower due to less staff. We were probably in and out in around an hour.

Yelp
Hi Giacomo's of Melrose, I'm sad to say that your food does not compare to the delicious food at the North End and South End locations. I frequent the other locations and you guys are a complete let down. Maybe it was an off night in the kitchen. Totally understandable. However, if you're going to get better, you're going to have to learn how to take feedback, good or bad. The service was decent. I don't expect much for a sleepy suburb where most customers are just happy to be out for a nice meal. Our waitress was nice, but not very experienced. The food was...well, let's just say I feel embarrassed for you. Growing up with Italians and home cooked Italian food, the dishes you put out were downright lazy. The gnocchi was larger than they should be (and larger than your other locations), causing issues with texture and flavor. The mozzarella "sticks" were not bad. The fusilli was cooked well, but lacked flavor. Is there a salt shortage in Melrose? Your broccoli rabbe is the worst we've ever had. EVER. The tiramisu was good. At least we didn't end the meal on a terrible dish. I hope you guys can fix this. I plan to give you another shot because I have friends and family in the area. Fingers crossed that my night there was an off night.

Yelp
The name Giacomo's is infamous when talking to any true Bostonian. The first thing that comes to mind? The line that wraps around the north end location, even in cold weather months. Well thank God for the first suburban(There is another city version in the south end) location in the heart of Melrose. Surely you won't have to deal with crazy wait times, right? Wrong! The only different here is convenient parking and now you get to wait inside lol But I promise if you can get past the chaotic waiting area and onto a table, you are in for an absolute treat. Giacomo's is one of a gaziliion Italian options in the greater Boston area. I can't say for sure it's the best, but I have not encountered anything more authentic. One thing I realized in my travels to Italy is that great cooking is about simple, fresh, quality ingredients. And it's never more than a handful of ingredients if you actually ask the chef what's his secret. Giacomo's bring me back to that place. Calamari - is had my share of calamari(wife's fav) but this is easily the best I've ever had. Fresh, Crispy and not at all chewy. It's borderline melt in your mouth. Plus they also bread the peppers. How cool is that? Well if you don't like pepper, you might get a surprise kick, but I promise you'll survive. Fettuccine with salmon - again, fresh is the name of the game. The freshness of the fish is apparent and the Gorgonzola cream sauce is a nice touch. A light simple dish that hits all the right spots. Penne with chicken and shrimp - I won't even bother with a worthy explanation. Best pesto ever.... It should be noted, as hectic as the waiting/seating process is, the customer service does not at all suffer. The wait staff is on their game! The food comes out in no more than 10 minutes.... Giacomo's has won over a new devotee.

Yelp
They kicked everyone out because of a power issue. You'd think they would have offered vouchers or even to pay for drinks but NOPE.

Yelp
I have never ever done this but here goes........ Drove 2 hours from Western Mass to finally eat at Giacomos for my birthday. It took us 10 mins just to get up to the host stand because of the large crowd. My party of 6 was told our 5:45 table reservation would have to wait. Even tho there were 2 empty tables behind the host stand. But they were reserved for other parties. " why not just put us there? we had to stand and wait in front of the bathroom and/ or in front of other diners which was very uncomfortable. We were told the people at "our table" in the other large dining room had paid but they just had not left yet. After 30 mins we got seated behind the host stand which is where we asked to sit initially. The host says " they just cancelled" WHAT? I asked to see a manager and no-one ever came. I would have to speak to someone in charge as I know we were treated unfairly. The food was ok, it is very loud and noisy. If it wasn't for Nick the server being so great I would have got up and left. He is the only reason for the 3 stars.

Yelp
Lunch time best time, no wait everything came quick. If you don't know what to get, get the frutti di mare and you won't go wrong
