Giant Drive In

Giant Drive In is a restaurant trying to get by on nostalgia. While the the restaurant is unique due to its throwback to the old drive ins, that’s all it has going for it. In fact, I would argue the place is in dire need of an upgrade. They have a cramped seating area with torn seats and old tables requiring repair. Speaking of, the place could use a tech revamp as it is a cash-only establishment. Also, the wolf decorations gotta go. Food wise, this place underperformed. The “giant” burgers are alright. The toasted bun was nice but the sogginess of the veggies and condiments made it disintegrate rather quickly. The meat was none other than a 1/4 pound beef patties of the frozen variety and, while they are not bad, there is nothing special about them. Although you could order additional patties, they are definitely not as “giant” as I through they’d be, based on the name. On another note, the fries themselves were nice. However, don’t splurge on the “cheddar” fries. The cheese was bland, old nacho cheese. Definitely not worth the doubling in price. Speaking of, prices were about average. The service was a bit below; it wouldn’t hurt them to be friendlier. Of the burger joints in the area, there are some that are worth your money. Giant Drive In is really not one of them.

Always a friendly place with personal touch. The burger today was the best I’ve had in a long time. I have been a customer for well over 30 years. The place hasn’t changed much in that time span. That’s a “giant” thing!

Mediocre food with pretty terrible service. The staff obviously didn't care if we ate there or not. No drink refills (you can't even pay extra and get a refill, just absolutely no refills), mediocre burgers, good fries, off-brand ketchup that they are very hesitant to hand out enough packets. The atmosphere is cute, though!

Not bad for a great tasting burger. I tried the Hawaiian burger and was different but tasty. Establishment is clean and has friendly staff. They only take cash.

I remember going to Giant everyday throughout the 90s. At that time, I worked across the street at Albertsons in the produce department putting myself through grad school. Daily I would deliver over ripe bananas to Bill and Gale for free burgers, fries, and a shake! What a great memory! Bill was a stand up guy, who made you tote the line when ordering his burgers. Places like this are getting harder and harder to find in an age where everything is measured by shine and efficiency. Going to miss you guys!

That good old school burger on a sesame seed bun. It's a great product, served by great owners. Definitely worth trying.

Giant Burger has been here for 39 years! Since 1981! Always the nicest people and delicious BLACKBERRY milkshakes!! Keep supporting them as much as you can!

I was starving, and still didn’t finish the burger. Not because it was too big, but because the meat tasted like gray bland mystery meat. I think the only demographic who wouldn’t notice are heavy smoker and crusty old folks. The fries were sub-par but edible. The fresh banana milkshake was great. Because of the burger I would never come here again. What was on point though, was the customer service. I couldn’t decide if I should give two stars for the food, or four for the customer service so I landed in the middle. Before I ate a bite, it was five stars though. Just sad that these old folk don’t seem to acknowledge these reviews... change your recipe, throw some seasoning on. This place has everything but the burgers going for it.

Sadly Giant Burger is out of business and property is for sale. At one time it was one of my burger rotations.

They are closed it says to remodel New owners? Will they still be just a burger joint Will they make a better burger?

Old time favorite growing up in Lake Oswego. I've tried going there a few times in the last couple months and apparently they are closed for remodeling, hopefully they are able to open up again soon.

One of the best burgers in the US! This place is great and keeps it old school vibe going. The milkshakes are great too.

First strike...they don't take cards. 2nd and 3rd strike...Unbelievable!!! I stopped for lunch today. ( The first time in many years). As I was placing my order I looked down and saw a bunch of political signs that they had posted. One of them was very disrespectful of our honorable President of the United States. I remembered reading another Yelp review that mentioned the owner and employees had made racist remarks that made them feel uncomfortable. I decided to ask the very old woman behind the counter if she was a Trump supporter. She has what does that matter? I said it matters a lot since I see you have posted signage that disrespects our current president. If you're a Trump supporter I don't wanna give you a penny of my money. She said "that's fine, leave." Makes sense now that they don't accept cards.

The exterior is very much a reflection what you will experience inside. Is it the highest quality or best burger in town? No. Is it tasty? Yes. All these one star reviews are a bit undeserved in my opinion. Cash only is a pain, I've driven by many times and would have loved to stop but I don't normally carry cash. The service has always been fine. I've found the owners to be polite. The food has always been fresh although I do agree with the comments of the meat not being the greatest. The shakes are quite good though. Honestly I go for the experience. Sometimes it's nice to each lunch in analog.

Yeah, it's cash only. So what? It's a mom and pop drive-in so get over it. These kind of places are rapidly disappearing, so I seek them out whenever I can. I always order just a deluxe cheeseburger on my first visit (standard for comparison). I saw the complaints about stale buns. I was there at noon on a Friday and my sesame bunllll was fresh, sbustantial, and nicely toasted on the cut side. Yes, the patty was thin and cooked on a flat top. It lacked carmelization, so no extra points. But other than that pretty decent for what it was. Didn't ring the bell for best ever, but pretty decent. I'll return sometime and try something new.

Went to the historic lake oswego burger join Giant burger it's a cash only restraunt that has been around for years. Heard it use to be really good so I thought I'd give it a go and see. I ordered an bacon cheese burger. The meat was.well done not by asking and it had what seemed store bought Kraft cheese. The bacon was ok but the bun tasted a few days old. While not a bad atmosphere I dont think I would go again. It tastes like a place that still in the paste.

2 stars. They gave me a burger. 1 star. Charged for additional toppings on an already overpriced burger. minus 1 star Burger over cooked. Minus 1 star Cash only. Minus 1 star Seems they thought they could charge what they charge because they're located in Lake Oswego. Lower your prices and increase your quality or at least do one of these things. Well where do we start. Have been there several years ago and were ok with the fries and burger. Since we were in the area, we stopped in . Mistake!! Grumpy old man running the place, and serving tasteless food in small portions. Large fries - amounted to 12! Meat was grey and tasted freezer burned. Bun was dead - days before they served it. Ordered a regular burger- got only Mayo, quarter sized tomato 4 slivers onion. No mustard available! Cheap ketchup in small package. Only 5 available, For two burgers and fries and onion rings. We asked to leave the bacon off the burger. Served to us with bacon. Took it back to him and he said it COMES with bacon. Very rude!!! We left it on the table and left. Never ever going back.

It's kinda gone downhill unfortunately. Grease needs changed and things are just overdone. It used to be one of the best. Pains me to say it but it is no longer a place I can recommend.

Ahh...ok...gotta say this was one weird vibe they were putting off. Food was like a concession burger, not great. Mom and son team, maybe not related, maybe married, IDFK what was going on but they were not interested in smiling. Just missing a banjo in the back ground and that woulda completed it for me (no offense to banjos).

I felt I was stuck on the movie one flew over the cuckoo's nest. I wanted a bacon burger but I don't want mayo. Can I substitute BBQ sauce? No. Can I buy a side of bbq sauce? No. So cancel my wife's and my order, we'll go somewhere else, thank you for nothing. (And by the way, they only take cash, in 2017, in Lake Oswego)

Been here a couple of times with the BF - mainly because he used to frequent the Giant a lot, years ago. Just not that impressed with the burger or fries. On this latest visit, burger was okay, (nothing special) but the bun was not good and definitely wasn't fresh. Fries also seemed store bought, so again nothing special. Even the BF said they have gone downhill and just aren't as good as they once were. I know that the Giant is an institution, and been around a long time, but it just seems like they don't really care anymore. I don't think we'll be back.

Stop for hot dog and fries. Asked for kraut on the dog, the guy said NO. Took me completely by surprise. Pointed out that they had other items with Kraut. He said no kraut on hot dog. That was about 30 years ago never went back . Arrogance is their main dish.

I wanted to like this place. I love old diners so gave it two tries before writing this. The burgers are boring. Frozen patties, cooked without a crust, just grey, limp meat. With fresh, but tasteless condiments. The fries, also frozen are just thrown in some vegetable oil with no salt. Cash only is just fine if I'm getting something made with love but I can get a better burger from, God help me, the golden arches. Bland, tired, and happy with it's older die hard base, I think we will see the end of this charming little diner soon.

First time here today, came in with my little ones. My daughter is very happy with her burger and fries. The owners were very friendly, and I love the authentic vintage diner vibe. We will be making regular visits :)

I grew up in Lake Grove and went to the elementary school across the street. I have fond childhood memories of getting frozen otter pops and hot French fries. I include the backstory as I have a different take than many do about this classic diner. First of all, it's CASH only and the service is surly. The old guy isn't rude, he just doesn't have time for the dilly dallying that is so common. It's a burger and milkshake joint, that's what they do. It's delicious, no nonsense grub. They were the first place I can remember that advertised an egg on a burger - in the 70s. Nevermind my take on them, give them a whirl, I doubt you'll be disappointed and you surely won't leave hungry.

Have you ever walked into a place and suddenly be awash with reveries and nostalgia? This Mom & Pop place did it for me. An unpretentious hole-in-the-wall, on the edge of the Portland area's most "elite" cities, sits "Giant Burger." Inside there's a hand-made sign, curling at the edges, worn and tired: "CASH ONLY." Further on, kitschy 3-D photos of nature scenes... the bathroom is entered from the parking lot, in the back of the restaurant. This place throws you back to the late '80's without even trying to. I had the jalapeno burger. The meat was flavorful, well-seasoned... the toppings fresh. The burger was, um, well, giant. The bun had been lightly toasted. Unpretentious, and undemanding (well, it demands napkins... lots of napkins)... This place and its food didn't try to be anything other than what it was. Banana milk shake was milky... I could actually drink it from a straw... The onion rings were fantastic, and transported me somewhere / sometime to a long-forgotten, comfortable place. ($6... and there were, I think, 7 rings?) I will remember this place next time I'm starving and in town.

CASH ONLY May be the most fantastic burger in the world but I'll never bother to find out. I never carry cash, and I'm not about to make an exception for a burger joint. Wast of my lunch break time.

I absolutely hate leaving bad reviews but I have to let people know how bad this burger was. I honestly hope this was an off day because it was terrible. This was the epitome of an elementary school cafeteria burger. The patties were over done from frozen and it was lacking cheese or condiments.

Overpriced, frozen grey meat. Hard buns and horrible service. Want to buy an add on? Forget it. Don't bother and spend your money elsewhere.

If you like old fashioned real hamburger joints this is it! The parking lot is packed at lunch. If you like big hand made slurpy burgers and fries try the authentic Cajun fries or the Curly Cheese fries. The buns are toasted to perfection. Try the natural root beer made in an Oregon City Micro brew. It's made with honey instead of sugar. It's smooth and naturally carbonated so the bubbles are micro bubbles.

The meat was so bland it didn't even feel like I as eating a burger. I got the garlic burger and the minced garlic was clearly canned, tasted like the canned oil, no garlic taste just sourness. On top of that, way too much garlic. The fries were okay, but no seasoning and the oil seemed to not have been hit enough and absorbed into fry a little. I don't eat gluten and so asked for no bun. The lady was nice enough to oblige (judging by reviews others have not had such luck) me but insisted on making it a pain by trying to convince me for a minute to eat it with a bun and looking at me like I was a freak. I only came here because my family wanted to try it after many years. Next time if they wanna go I'll just watch them eat. I left still hungry and AND a stomach ache..

I've driven by this place 100 times and never stopped in. Today, I finally had one of their burgers and, I'm going to stick to driving by. The service was great. I was greeted by a kind man who reminds me of a modern day Dick Van Dyke. My food came out in under 10 minutes at lunchtime. Everybody was pleasant. But then, there's the food... Buns were in the warmer or under a lamp for too long, chewy and dry. Meat? Pretty much the cheapest ground beef at Cash & Carry. Seasoning? No, that's an actual question, did they season it? Veggies on it? Fine if not a little thick for my taste, especially the onions. Fries were crinkle cuts from cash and carry as well; nicely fried, under seasoned. All the Western Family ketchup packets on the counter wouldn't have been enough to bring the meal to life. Also, check the pictures, there are rather phallic "footprints" painted outside. Has to be mentioned.

A genuine Mom and Pop burger joint with super friendly people and great burgers and onion rings. Fries are crispy and piping hot. Shakes are thick and delicious. This is how burgers should be.

I first came here in 2001 and I'm quickly reminded why I've only been here a handful of times in past 15+ years. This place could CRUSH, but are missing some key fundamentals that would turn it around. Frozen patties, frozen corn dogs, and the most generic Sysco fries I've ever seen. Cmon, Wendy's has you beat already and we're not even pointing out that you claim to have "specialty burgers." I understand some pencil pusher "owner" thinks the portion controlled ketchup packets are saving your bottom line but they're not, and they're incredibly annoying. Its 2018, either accept debit/card or capitalize and get yourself an ATM. Adapt or die. Looks like your choosing the latter. We wanted to order a corn dog and we're nearly ridiculed because "that item takes the longest to make, its 'like' 12 minutes." Listen, lady. Hot dog on a stick hammers their HAND DIPPED corn dogs in 3-4 minutes, figure it out. The value here is the real estate on Boone's Ferry, not the dining. Save your cash.

The younger gal was nice and amicable. The older woman was a little bit unfriendly. I asked if I could plead order a jalapeño burger with avocado. The older woman ignored me, until the younger gal came over to take my order. I repeated my order to the younger gal, and the older woman interrupted rudely saying, "you can only get the avocado burger by itself, or the jalapeño burger. We don't do any add ons." I was a bit bothered by her tone, I would've perfectly okay if charged a some change for the avocado add on. My friend ordered LARGE CAJUN FRIES. What we got was some lightly seasoned regular friends in a tiny paper pouch. The size of the order was mediocre, "giant burger" my butt. The malt was in three cups because it's leaking and messy. The jalapeños on my burger aren't fresh, they came straight out of 99 cent can. I will admit, the burgers are edible. So no complaints there. I would've been okay with my experience if I was greeted a little bit friendly, my order was accommodated, and actually got large fries. I'll take my hard earned money elsewhere, probably McDonald's.

I have gone here, for years. The past several times the buns were hard and dry on the bottom. We took them home and my wife said that they had put a burger warmer on the bottom of the burger. It was the bottom bun. Hard. The lettuce was so limp and sparse that I thought the lettuce had been put too close to the warmer. We wished we had driven out to Helvetia. Would have been a nicer time and burger. The older woman cooked the burgers. I wished she hadn't. I miss the guy who has been there running the place. She may be as well.

Wonderful burger place in my opinion best in Oregon I've been coming here for almost 20 years. My favorite burger here is the Nacho Burger

Came in today for the first time in almost 10 years and the older "gentleman" behind the counter reminded me why it's been this long since the last visit. Cash only. Ok, it is what it is, but how about a sign outside stating that? Small handwritten sign on register. Still, if the service was worthwhile, I'd have zero problems going to an ATM and coming back but this guy's condescending attitude gives my economic engine a "0" from a scale of 1-10 to give him my business. Same unprovoked, petty and cold attitude he gave me almost 10 years ago. Somewhere on this feed, someone said he looks like "Dick Van Dyke"....I agree...minus the "Van Dyke".

We have been meaning to try this place for a few weeks now. It just so happened we were driving by tonight and stopped on a whim. The food was hot and perfection! The service was first rate! The recipe of great food and fabulous personality makes this place a new favorite!

Disapointed. This was first time visit, and dispite several bad reviews I decided to give it a try. Place was empty around 6 PM on Monday. I was there for about 25 minutes, and not a single customer stopped by. I have no idea how they stay in business. Place was clean, the young lady upfront was nice. I ordered Jalapeno burger and cajun fries. They only take cash (21st century!), and good thing I had some cash on me. The Jalapeno burger with bacon and small fries was $11.75. Very expensive! The burger was not juicy, just plain, and a bun was very hard. And cajun fries was just a regular fries with cajun salt on top! For the same price I could of have great burger at Red Robin. I don't think I will come back.

No sign outside that it's cash only and no ATM inside. There is a small sign on the cash register that you don't see until you're about to pay. Now, I normally would have driven to an ATM to get cash, but I was treated so rudely, I decided not to give him my business. We hadn't been there in 7 or 8 years and the selection of burgers is extensive. Therefore I had 1 question about the French Dip burger and you would have thought I had called him a name. The older gentleman was rude and said "I make hamburgers, soooo....". Just answer the question? Is it a burger with sliced beef on top that you dip in au jus? That's seriously all I asked and he had to make me feel stupid. For that, I'm going to drive an ATM in traffic and come back? Nope.

WORST BURGER EVERRRRRR! My husband and I used to go here many years ago. And decided to check it out while back in town for a little nostalgia as everything in Portland is so different now. Esthetically everything looked the same. Just grimier and dirtier. It felt like a time warp. We should have known when we pulled up and no other cars or customers were there. Customer service. Unfriendly Food WOW where do I start! Burger's were tasteless, gray in appearance. I have no idea what the cheese was made of it was white and curdled (I literally gagged just looking at it) dirty raw onion, soggy lettuce and incredibly sad tomato. The whole burger looked dead. The bun... ewww! So, being pregnant and terrified of the food itself or getting food poisoning it went directly in the trash. I ate a few fries. Cheese sauce was/looked gross. Cajun fries had no Cajun seasoning. My husband also threw his food out. Also, they only take CASH ONLY and our total came to more then $24.00 I realize I sound a bit dramatic... But, it was kind of traumatizing LOL It was the worst burger I have ever seen EVER!

Wow! The Filler Burger is outstanding! What a cool little joint. Met Gayle, the owner. Sweet lady. The local root beer is really good also. Definitely recommend.

Ate there yesterday, take out. Burgers not grilled, microwaved. Re-fried fries. Realize it is the pandemic, but really? So unlike the first time 6 months ago. NOT worth it. I would give no stars if possible.

Oh my goodness. What a museum piece. My father and I went out to lunch on a Friday afternoon. The lady in front of us asked for a cheeseburger with sautéed onions. The man taking her order (who I assume is the owner) refused to put onions on a cheeseburger. He said something along the lines of "after all these years, I've learned not to put just anything on any burger," which seemed super rude. She ended up ordering the onion burger (which had cheese). Kind of off-putting. Really off-putting, actually. Once we got to the front of the line, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, no mayo. Dad ordered a garlic burger. We sat down and admired the decor. It was atrocious. Truly awful. There were hologram pictures on the walls, all for sale (because when I go out to lunch at a total dive, I definitely want to invest in "art"). Food arrived pretty quickly, which I was surprised about. I looked at my dad's burger. My first thought was "oh, there's white cheddar on his burger." NOPE. Not white cheddar. Mayonnaise. So much mayonnaise. He said it tasted okay. Nothing special. My bacon cheeseburger, on a sesame seed bun, really lacked sesame seeds. The fries, however, were delicious. Well. Delicious comparatively, which is really not saying much. They raised this place from a. 1.5 to a solid 2 stars. Overall, food and service were very 'meh.' I wouldn't come back. This place is cash only.

Every time I've been to Giant, the place is near capacity. A fact which I find a bit puzzling. This little burger joint in Lake Grove enjoys a loyal following of burger fans of all ages - teens to baby boomers. It is also one of my friend's favorite places to eat, but I just don't quite get it. On the plus side, the burgers are good, but they don't quite rock my world. The menu is limited, but the prices are reasonable. For me, they fall somewhere in between Mickey D's fast food and a gourmet burger experience. The owner has quite the rep as a curmudgeon (ala Seinfeld's Soup Nazi) and has been known to tangle with the city which wants him to replace the sign out front with something smaller and more dignified. This is Lake O after all, and a certain appearance is expected. I've got to give them props for keeping the place very clean, but it is also very basic. Be prepared to pay with cash only. Ketchup packets instead of squirt bottles. No mustard in sight. No jug of water and paper cups for the kids. Speaking of the kiddos... the kid's burger is a joke, consisting of a tiny bread roll for a bun which is about half the diameter of the patty and it comes with raw onions. What kid likes onions? For the money, just order the regular cheeseburger, plain, if they don't want the fixings. The decor is interesting. A complete throw back to the 60s and 70s, when yellow and orange were the height of cool. You follow the yellow footprints to the bathroom around back, which is like the kind behind the gas station we all dread. So it is fine for the occasional visit, but I don't think I'll ever be one of their devotees.

Shoulda listened to the other negative reviews. Place is overpriced trash. Charged me 10 bucks for a jalapeño bacon cheeseburger. What I got was a soggy mess with barely any bacon on it. Also asked paid more for Cajun fries and they gave me regular. Steer clear of this place. Just down the road is Hankos Bar, their burger completely blows this one out of the water. And they accept credit card!

Yelp had such mixed reviews I wasn't sure I wanted to venture in here, after my son invited me. He had been driving by it for some time and wanted to try it and knowing I am sucker for the burger dives, it was on. First off, whoever said they don't post prices, is not reviewing this place, the pricing board looks like it has been here since the dinosaurs were ordering cave burgers. If you miss that lit up board, they have a printed pricing menu hanging up with a description of each burger. We got there at 11am. First ones through the door and the owners were both there. He took the order, was very friendly to us, his wife was cooking and was very nice, as well. Wasn't sure what to expect after some reviewers said they got yelled at. I got the $6 garlic burger special, fry and drink. My son got whatever the biggest stack burger is that has ham, bacon, egg and two patties. He said it was really good. My burger was really good. I would give the food a 3 and the total experience a 4. She brought us the tray out as soon as it was done, which was pretty fast. The bun was a little over toasted on top but not a deal breaker. I think the haters are in love with the chain places and can't see that there is a difference when your patty doesn't come from a corporate logo grill. Just sayin'. I think the people who said they are reheating old fries might be overlooking the fact it looks like it might be the grease isn't hot enough. There were only a few fries that looked a little sad, but otherwise, all was good. Now, at 11am, we owned this place by 12:05 the line was out the door and standing room only, no tables left. We vacated quickly to free a table up, since we had just been talking and realized that the crowd shows up FAST and all at once. The parking lot was now packed as well. They could stand to add an ATM because we saw two people come in right after us and leave because they had no cash. They also know a lot of these customers by name, so it can't be that bad. I would say, go try them and see if you like it, but if you want the glitz and corporate feel then you won't enjoy this place, it is a classic old burger place.

It's not often you find yourself within lunchtime driving distance of one of the top 100 burger joints as ordained by the book Hamburger America which was written by someone with way too much time of their hands. But you cannot ignore Best Burger write ups in the Oregonian and other local bird cage liners. I didn't know all this until I walked into Giant and noticed the man behind the counter was used to getting his order from people quicker than I was offering, but I was studying the menu. So, when I said I was new to his establishment he hard sold me on his street cred, and won me over with his "old guys in the balcony on the Muppet Show" charm. The menu really isn't as limited as I was lead to believe, there are many variations of burger up there, not to mention hot dogs, corn dogs and variations of french fries. I decided on the Terikyaki Burger and a small order of Cajun Fries, and a diet Pepsi so as to stick to my diet. :-) Good thing I had cash being a Giant Rookie because this place doesn't take checks or cards at all. I cannot help but wonder how much business that costs him? I sat down in the booth and took stock that this place was really small. Maybe 8 booths and a couple of chairs and tables from a 50's Malt Shop (previous owner?) strewn about. But the place was hopping. I looked around and saw that this was listed as the official lunch stop for UPS Drivers, and sure enough, there was a UPS driver eating across from me. The thought that came to me is with all the room in his lot why doesn't he invest in some outdoor seating area? Well, I guess you could sit in the car and open the windows. It didn't take long for my food to arrive. Paper lined plastic baskets held my burger and another my fries. The burger was sitting in teriyaki juice and my first thought was, "This is going to be messy" Damned if I wasn't right! The fries were cooked to near perfection, they were your typical large cut fries but they were cooked right, not a limp one in the basket. The seasoning was a nice touch, not too spicy but you knew it was there. I ate the burger as daintily as I could, sauce dripping everywhere, single layer napkins tearing at the slightest touch and not a Wet-Nap in sight. However, it was a good burger. I have to say that in my years I could write a book of the thousands of burger joints I have eaten at across this country of ours. Between towing race cars, driving 18 wheelers and just adventuring from coast to coast I can think of a handful of places better than Giant. But at the same time I can think of many many sub-standard places. I think I would rate him in my top 100 as well, maybe the top 50. It's no Slow Bar Burger and it doesn't pretend to be, it is what it is, a really good drive in joint located 1.9 miles from I-5 and a world away from the designer foods of Bridgeport.

What a cool spot. I originally read about Giant in Hamburger America. As the top reviewer said: the place feels like it's from another time you've only read about -- from the booths, to the menu signs, to being cash only. Having said that: it's authentic and great. The burger patties are huge, Dick and Gale are super friendly, and it was just a really fun experience. Our toddler loved the kids burger! We'll be going back soon.

Gray, unseasoned, frozen patty. Fries didn't have a speck of salt. At the very least, these are two big problems to have at a burger joint. To the people that defend this place tooth and nail, and tell others to "get over themselves": try getting some tastebuds.

4 stars. The burger scene in the greater Portland area is fiercely competitive as well as surprisingly expensive. A quality burger here will set you back 8-12 buck not counting a drink and fries- Giant fits into this scene with little fanfare- small place, mom and pop style with a simple menu, average prices, decent burger, fresh veggies and pleasant staff. Not sure how staff have gotten dinged here as everyone I dealt with were great. Prices were a little higher than my perceived worth but who am I to judge? I would go back there- if passing by and craving a burger.

BIll & Gail are the absolute BEST! Sweetest couple in the world! I went here as a kid and nothing has changed, and I love it! The Hawaiian is one of the best burgers that you will ever have! Me and my co-workers go here weekly and enjoy it every time. Lots of reviews on here bash Giant Burger because you can't change your order a lot - it is what it is! Seriously, get over it. Don't take it personally, and go head to burger king to "have it your way". Giant has 30+ different burgers and I feel sorry for you if you can't find one that you like. It's inexpensive too :) Where else can you feed 4 people a delicious meal for under $25? If you are looking for a simple & delicious dining experience - then Giant burger is the place to be! CA$H ONLY :)

I'll admit it now! I have a soft spot for this little joint. When A & I are having a stressful day, there's nothing that can bring a twinkle to our eyes the way that suggesting Giant for dinner can. This is a little mom & pop spot with kids taking orders. I was reading in the Hamburger America that he was an engineer turned burger maker & I'm all for that because that might be me someday! This is definitely not a gourmet fancy burger nor is it the best burger you've ever had, but it's a solid burger done right. They grind their own meat, use Tillamook cheese, and fresh baked buns to make a burger you would get if you went to your friend's summer BBQ. I love trying a different burger every time. From the western to nacho to french dip to hawaiian to the filler (which we've yet to have). It's all really good! It's that drippy saucy burger that carls jr. ads used to have. Add a large order of cajun fries & a blackberry milkshake & I'm golden. Mmmm..today might just be a Giant for dinner kind of day!

Two stars because the burger was decent the first time I came here. I just tried to eat here for a second time but they closed 15 min before 8pm (website says open until 9pm). I pulled into their parking area, seeing that all of the lights were off, I sat there and called my wife to discuss plan B. As I waited, the old lady who works here (and most likely owns it considering the black Escalade she was in) pulled very slowly around from the back. She inched around until her Escalade was pointed directly at me and put her high beams on lol Must have thought I was trying to rob the Giant Burger? She was clearly trying to run me out of her parking lot. Haha you can't make this stuff up. Plan B was Five Guys down the road off Nyberg. The night was a success. Great burger and even better service. I don't plan on coming back.

The most unfriendly and greedy dive around. Be prepared to be nickel and dimed and made to feel like they are doing you a favor by selling you some very mediocre previously frozen fast food.

Stopped in on a whim on our way to the coast. Probably will not stop in again. Burger was good, big, filling. Cheddar fries - just skip them. Nothing for the vegetarian in our group.
