"A space-themed coffee shop called Giant Leap Coffee just landed in the East End on Monday, serving vegan food along with its variety of coffee offerings. The shop, from self-proclaimed coffee nerd Logan Beck and co-owner Lauren Ferrante, promises “One small sip for man...” and well, Houston knows the rest. “We chose the name Giant Leap mostly for Space City,” Beck told Eater. “As a native Houstonian, that’s what I’m most proud of. I love space and sci-fi.” The theme extends to the interior design of the shop at 3302 Canal St., with its industrial elements and futuristic faceted ceiling — a custom buildout completed by Beck’s design and fabrication firm Rootlab. The 640 square-foot space also features a European-inspired stand-up bar and seating for 20. Beans are supplied by Amaya Roasting Co. and Catalina Coffee, where Beck was a regular before opening his own spot. Breakfast tacos courtesy of El Topo, juice from Revolucion, and pastries from Angela’s Oven in the Heights are all trucked in each morning. Giant Leap also offers salads and wraps (including vegan options), kombucha and beers on tap, bottled brews, and a selective wine assortment. “Coffee is a love of mine, and something I’d been wanting to get into for the past six or seven years,” Beck says. “We slogged through Harvey and the permitting, it added six weeks to the project, lots of stuff set us back. But we still got it all done within about a year. We didn’t cut any corners. If I’m going to do something, I want it to be as good as it can possibly be.” Giant Leap is now open for business Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 3302 Canal St." - Alaena Hostetter

Finally made a visit to this East End establishment a few weeks ago. Located in the Headquarters coworking building, Giant Leap has really good coffee and excellent service. I came about 45 minutes before closing. I never felt rushed. Instead the barista was very conversational and engaging. It's quite small for Houston standards, but comfortable with 3 tables along the wall, 3 bar stool seating along the window and a several chairs and bar stool seating outside. Plan to make this one of my frequent coffee shops as long as the coffee remains good and the service is great.

Really dope vibes that are fitting for a developing EaDo area. Love the warm aestetics with the accompanying vinyl wall. The music played helps really bring the vibe home. Add that on top of the great coffee and spacious seating, this makes for a cool place to knock out some work! Highly recommended.

I found this to be a fun, quirky place to come for coffee and a muffin. It was an accidental discovery. I can appreciate the eclectic design. Seating is available inside and outside. The servers were friendly. Quiet and cozy atmosphere. The iced coffee was good and the muffin was fresh and moist.

The coffee: The cortado was interesting. Pretty acidic and I would say very fruity. It seems like a darker roast and had a very full flavor. It was served very hot (yay) and in a really neat cup as opposed to the usual clear glass or mug. It gets points for presentation too. It had a very different flavor profile from what most other coffee shops in Houston have. I think the fruitiness kind of defines it. I don't love it, but it was good and I would come back for the change. The service: Excellent! The barista was super friendly, and chatted with us and other customers. My experience fell towards the upper end for me. The shop: They have a really strong brand image. The decor, drinkware, signage, lights, and even the latte art push the space theme. I like it. Very few places attempt theming like this, and fewer pull it off. It's very clean, classy, and open. There's a good amount of natural lighting too. It is a bit small, and the seating is pretty limited though. There are some outlets, but they are pretty inaccessible from most of the seats. If this place does take off, I can see it being more of a grab and go. They do have wifi though, just ask! Also, it is a bit hard to see from the street, but just know it's at the Headquarters. Overall: It's a cool new coffee shop worth trying out. If the coffee was more to my taste, I wouldn't hesitate to give them that extra star.

I love the ambience, friendly and knowledgeable staff and of course beautifully crafted coffee drinks from freshly roasted beans. They have a surprisingly good tea collection as well, expertly steeped. The pu'er is my favorite.

Really cute coffee shop! Really small space. Nice if you like quiet place to talk or work. Coffee is really tasty, and they have different milk options. They also have juice, and kombucha. We saw someone with a cinnamon roll so they do have little snack options for food. Overall, a really nice coffee shop!

Today’s batch of Strawberry Basil Lime Kombucha is ridiculously refreshing! And per my wife, the Giant Leap Yogurt Parfait is tastier and with more yogurt.

Good coffee, the staff is nice. Had a ham & jalapeño croissant! They also have tacos and many other pastries. Chill vibe, perfect for a Saturday morning.
