The Giant By The Schuylkill Review - Center City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Yes, The Giant on 23rd Street in Center City is your run-of-the-mill grocery store selling milk and eggs that will make you yell, "How much?" when reading the label. But this location also has an outdoor balcony with strangely nice views of the Schuylkill. When you want a view to help you forget about the five items swallowing your paycheck, head here with a bag of chips and some beer or wine from the store. Or bring a date for a slightly unhinged but ultimately sweet night." - Candis R. McLean

Love shopping here. It’s always clean. About 90% of the workers are friendly. The only thing that could make it bet is if they got caralina carts. My kids are too big for the front of a cart so I have no choice but to squeeze them into the back part if not they’ll run off or mess up the shelves. They are on the spectrum and love to be on the move all the time.they also love going to see Marty.

This Giant constantly discontinues the exact items I need. It's really getting to be over the top. Every time I go in store looking for a particular item I need, it's no longer available. If I tell customer service or management, they do NOTHING. The customer service desk sucks they stand around and talk, the staff are rude, and they are not informed on store products or availability. Carol and Angie are the only ones who try to help, the other workers at the service desk should be fired. Meat department is overpriced, constantly discontinues organic and grass fed meats, not a large selection of lamb, bison, etc.. shelves and cases filled with chemically treated, overprocessed, and farm raised meats. No organic bones available to make stew or broth. Salmon is not fresh and wild caught like it says on packaging. The dairy department is perpetually out of organic cottage cheese and flavors of organic yogurt are sparse. All the breads in the bakery and bread isle are enriched and overprocessed. No fresh organic sourdough available. The produce department constantly discontinues organic products gets other products changes selections, it's very hard to plan the menu when the selections are unavailable from one week to the next. The organic bananas almost always are moldy on the ends. The organic berries are so over-priced that they are unaffordable. The organic isle has some things other organics are splattered around the store in different departments makes it impossible to know if they have the items or just moved to another department or location. The whole store is lacking on quality, the management is always seen standing around talking. I could go on, but I'll stop for now.

HORRIBLE PRICES!!! This was my 1st trip to Giant in years. It was huge and it was very nice looking!! It's crazy trying to find what you're looking for. There's organic then there's regular food. Organic fruits and vegetables get big displays and are generally $1 or more than regular and trying to find regular fruits & vegetables is a task!! Then you get to the prices. For instance, reg. Strawberries, the sign in front of them says 16oz $1.99 w/coupon. I bought 2. $1.99 for 1 the second $4.99. The coupon didn't say 1 per customer or multiple coupons for multiple items. I bought Power Aid 20oz -6pack they were 2 dollars more than Walmart. The 12 oz Red Bull $3.59 Giants, Walmart $2.59. Coupons are confusing, the signs stating the specials weren't accurate and the prices are ridiculous!! When I got to the register, the scanner kept saying help needed assistance. I walked out! I told the attendant, "I'm done!" I left the cart with the items! That's it! The attendant helped me 3 times, I had to get coupons for 4 items and prices that were supposed to be lower were not!! I will not make this mistake again! Oh...I did use the membership card too(attendants) and still prices didn't come down. WALMART ALL THE WAY!!

The only thing I wish Cressona, PA Giant had was bigger boxes of the nature's promise coffee like they use to have. 10 in a box don't last long. It use to be 30 in 1 box. That was good for a week. Now I need to buy multiple boxes and they never have it. Please help Giant. I need my coffee.

Better selection than most grocery stores in the area. Prices are a little above the other major players locally, but quality is typically better as well. Good selection of international cuisine.

Yelp
I like to think that when I get a chance to go to a Giant store I'm going to be in for some great service. They are usually well organized and clean. Some good customer service. However, at this one, that was not the case. I stopped in to pick up a few items such as drinks and snacks for my stay. I made my way to where water would be located and found a basically empty shelf. There was no bottled water, not even the sparkling kind. I though, oh well, I will get it from the coolers up front. There must have been a shortage that day or something. I then went up and down the aisles to see if I could find some snacks. I was a little more successful on that part. Grabbed a few things, only enough to carry. I then made my way to the front of the store. I then went to the self checkout registers and had some problems there. But there was no associate around that could tell me what I was doing wrong. Each company has a bit of a different system. I ended up figuring it out, but not before earning some disgusted looks from the locals. Having not found what I wanted/needed I had to then make my way elsewhere to get everything else. It was not a one stop shop for me.

Yelp
I shop at Giant because they have the best selection of food. I use the points I earned from buying groceries for gas. I actually had $1.80 off to use for gas. I wish they still had the fresh fish market instead of prepackaged foods. For people that are gluten free, there are more and more items available. I love the desserts and ice cream sections. It is so nice to see all the choices. I love the roll butter and use it all the time. One store told me you can't get it year round. Amazingly I am getting it year round at Giant. The electronic coupons that I can load onto my card take the place of clipping coupons. I still do both at times. Thank you for being there for us shoppers.

Yelp
We go to Giant put the savings toward the price of gas at the pumps? The larger giants offer more but all are about the same quality. Depending where your located.
