The Best Restaurants Near Logan Square

"Yes, The Giant on 23rd Street is your run-of-the-mill grocery store selling eggs that will make you yell, "How much?" when reading the label. But this location also has an outdoor balcony with surprisingly nice views of the Schuylkill. Head out here with a bag of chips and some beer or wine from the store. Or bring a date for a slightly unhinged but sweet night." - candis mclean

Love love this place. So clean and wonderfully managed. Free two hour parking on 15 street with any purchase from Giant. They have a Starbucks inside the store. How convenient! I get my coffee relaxand then shop. This store is huge whatever u need u can find here. From from buying flowers to beer and wine 🍷🍷🍷 happy shopping. My favorite. I will b doing my shopping here from this point on. By the way The other store Trader Joe's is truly overrated.

Just terrible. I sincerely have no idea how other reviewers would describe this location as well-stocked; this is my neighborhood store and I can assure you that bare shelves are not a rare sight at this Giant. Today really blew my mind, however. I went in this afternoon and almost half of the produce shelves were completely barren. The ones that weren't empty frequently held items that should have been disposed of days ago (see my pictures). I came across numerous wilted, half-rotted, or completely moldy items. As a former produce clerk myself, it's hard to imagine how management would find this acceptable. It does not instill confidence in how fresh food is handled in other parts of the store like the meat department or the deli. Aside from the state of the groceries, the shopping experience is pretty unpleasant. I got panhandled TWICE in the same shopping trip by the same guy inside the store. They don't seem to have any smaller carts or hand-baskets, so you're stuck navigating a crowded store full of huge carts and inventory robots. During the busiest times of the day, it's impossible to move around the front of the store because there's a huge backup and only ever about 2 of the 6 non-self-check registers open. There is a consistent pile of trash outside the store because people hang out in the alcove by the subway station all day and there's no garbage can by the entrance. This might be the worst managed Giant in Philly. It's worth going a little further to one of the other grocery stores in the area if that's feasible for you.

I love the location and staff, but the checkout lines are horrible. It doesn’t matter what day or time you go. Trader Joe’s is a fraction of the size of this store, but handles checkouts much more efficiently. $13/hour starting salary isn’t going to attract cashiers. They need to hire more people, offer more hours to cashiers or just go completely automated. What’s the point of having 10 lanes if only 2-3 are manned on a consistent basis? This model isn’t working. Please fix this otherwise great store.

Like the other Giant locations in center city, this store leaves much to be desired. Too much of the floorspace is dedicated to liquor. The deli and quick serve prepared food section is not usually well stocked and has limited options. Narrow, disorganized aisles feature a selection that seems increasingly more oriented to the Trader Joe's shopper, the prices seem higher than the should be as compared to Giant locations in the suburbs. I don't care for the layout of the checkout area, it's clumsy to navigate. There always seem to be panhandlers loitering about the doors to Broad Street.

A really lovely addition to the area! We live within a 2 minute walk from this Giant and were really excited when this location opened up. The store is extremely clean, well stocked and organized. Parking is available around the back of the store in their underground lot for those that need to drive in. Free 2 hour parking and you’ll need your receipt! Overall, we will absolutely be shopping here frequently given the proximity and fresh produce/meats etc. A go to for all your grocery needs!

There are 16 registers and only one cashier ever working at a time. The lines are regularly so long they wind back to the frozen section all the way across the store. The produce is often rotten and Doritos are nearly $7. They used to validate parking, but now they just give a discount. You’ll still pay $12 to park for an hour and most of that time will be spent standing in line to pay.

I will give this store five stars. The service at checkout, the selection of items in the store and the friendliness of staff surely warrant that rating. Hopefully the store has addressed previous reviews concerning long lines at self-checkout. I couldn't relate to that, and in all due fairness the line wasn't long and flowed perfectly fine at around 1:30PM on a Tuesday afternoon in center city Philly. Again, my shopping experience with items and service by staff had not fallen short, so I need to give them a great review. Hope this helps someone. 😊

If you enjoy wasting your time standing in a huge line, this is the Giant location for you. This issue has been going on for years, and this is the only supermarket in the region with this serious an issue. There are tons of registers and lanes, sitting there collecting dust, and without any workers. This isn't rocket science... maybe hire more workers or relocate some from other areas of the store? The store knows when their peak times are, and could easily plan accordingly. This is ridiculous. Management appears uncaring and incompetent, and employees can be seen standing around and talking to each other while this line issue persists, and their customers waste their valuable time. We are already being forced to scan our own items now (think about that...), and management condoning and doing nothing about this absurd line, for years, gives you a real sense of how they treat customers. I guess we are just $$$ to Giant, right?
