We've enjoyed dinner here a couple times over the past few years. After a long absence, we returned recently and had a great experience. Drinks, meals, staff...all were on point.
We decided to return to purchase a gift certificate for someone special and planned to stay for dinner. The experience we had was 180 degrees from the prior experience. When we had dinner a week or so ago, our conversation with a regular patron revealed a frustration that Giardino's wasn't as busy as they should be. Given all the positives it was difficult to understand why the place wasn't consistently busier.
Our recent experience was horrible. We were served bread and water and had to wait much longer than you'd expect for a server. The server asked if we had been asked for drink orders yet. When we said no, she took our drink orders and disappeared. Probably 12-15 minutes later the drinks arrived. We ordered two entrees and finished our drinks about 15 minutes later. We sat with empty glasses for another 10 minutes or so and our entrees arrived. Despite empty glasses, the server didn't check on how the entrees were or whether we wanted to order another drink. Our entrees were delivered by kitchen staff.
I know the server was busy but she wasn't giving the attention to her customers that she should have. The table behind us was overheard discussing the lack of service and decided to leave zero tip. We typically leave 20%+ for decent service and did so.
Looking back on the experience, I think a floor manager would be effective in keeping things moving properly in the restaurant. It was clear some of the staff was spread thin but with kitchen staff delivering meals and a bus boy (with a rolling cart) clearing tables, I'd expect the servers to be a bit more focused.
All in all, the restaurant is very good. Large menu, good drinks, but way too inconsistent. They need to do better. Hopefully, the management is paying attention to feedback and does something to make visiting Giordino's a consistently good experience.
