I came here for a private dinner event, so did not have the ordinary dining experience, but was able to enjoy a bunch of the food / drink options at Gibson's.
We started off with the seafood platter, which featured very large jumbo cocktail shrimp (very tasty) and fresh oysters.
I then got a house salad, which was very ordinary, although on the large side.
For my main course, I ordered the filet mignon. It was cooked to a nice medium rare level, with some pinkness on the inside. I understand that a properly cooked steak is supposed to have some char on the outside, but I think there was a bit too much char on this one, as it bordered on just being burned. Still, this top quality cut of steak was very tender, juicy, lean, and tasty. Another slight point for improvement was that it could've been a bit more flavorful / seasoned. It was also a bit smaller than I would've hoped for though. The steak came with some potatoes, which were cooked very well - slightly crispy and lightly seasoned.
For dessert, I tried both the strawberry shortcake and carrot cake. The strawberry shortcake was very good and moist. I liked the carrot cake even more though, as it also had some raisins inside to add some sweetness (not much carrot flavor actually though).
To drink, they have a lot of different options at the bar. I got a moscato, which was light and high quality.
The place itself has a very upscale, classy, and classic American restaurant vibe. The staff are all very friendly, helpful, and professional. The service speed is pretty quick. The place is decently sized and can get quite busy, particularly if there are large parties there for events.
Overall, while there are certain points for improvement, Gibson's is a high quality classic Chicago spot for more formal and fancy dinners - it's definitely a bit pricey, but can be worth it for a special occasion.
