The Best Restaurants Near Smith, Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Hampshire | Eater

"One could easily argue that Gigantic leads the pack on innovative and unexpected cocktail programs in this part of Massachusetts. The team of mixologists, including Punch contributor Al Culliton, place their collection of vintage spirits front and center, and they build a rotating menu of boozy, low-ABV, and NA beverages around seasonal ingredients and other calendrical themes. Head to the bar’s Instagram where the team announces themed tastings, queer nights, and karaoke." - Nat Belkov

An Easy Recipe for Making Tangy, Sweet Fruit Shrubs at Home | Eater

"Under bar manager Ned King, the bar leans on a 19th-century-style raspberry shrub in its Roosevelt Punch, a complex cocktail that blends cognac, Madeira, Jamaican rum, cold brew, and raspberry shrub — a riff inspired by a punch Theodore Roosevelt served in 1902." - Aliza Abarbanel

Chill relaxed vibes with upscale drinks. Big window in the front allows for open air and street views. New $10 cocktail menu did not disappoint.

Google
The drinks are SO GOOD. The cocktails are expertly crafted, creative, and DELICIOUS. The atmosphere is dark and cozy, a little spooky. Just be aware that the bar is SMALL, and drinks are pricy - is not necessarily a negative aspect because your drinks are handcrafted and high quality, but it does add up quickly if you are trying several drinks! If you're not meeting friends or attending a specific event, I'd suggest trying to get there shortly after they open, so it's not too crowded, and you can really enjoy the space!

Drinks were good but the female bartender is bad vibes. just asked if we could check out in the nicest way possible wasn’t rushing them at all and they go “can’t you see I’m busy” good strategy to get tips bud.

Google
What a beautiful place! Bartender was whack but the ambiance and the creativity will keep me coming back. I felt like it was stepping into a bar that alice in wonderland would appreciate if she was a millennial hipster! (it’s a good thing) Great drinks at this hidden gem.

Google
I write this review a little torn. My girlfriend and I absolutely love it here, it’s “our spot.” However, the service has really gone downhill over the past couple of months. We noticed things were really strange around Halloween time. One of the bartenders seemed a bit drunk, and another was really disgruntled. We went back last night and the bartenders were very chatty and didn’t wait on us promptly. We had to go back up to the bar to order another drink. Great cocktails, but the service has become pretty poor. This is unfortunate as they have some of the best cocktails in western mass. Some of the staff could definitely use an attitude adjustment.

Google
The curation of both the cocktails menu and the space itself is perfection. Fantastic drinks in a cozy but eccentric parlor setting. Gotta love it.

Yelp
The last thing I want to do is admit that a cocktail bar in this area is good. I hate driving to Easthampton (not your problem), I hate parking in Easthampton (not your problem...maybe), and there're lots of places I'd rather be. HOWEVER...I've been to Gigantic at least three times now and I have to admit that going out of your way is worth it. The drink list is not huge, but it's never boring, changes often enough to keep me interested, and I don't recall getting anything less than excellent. If they're willing to do a "bartender's choice" type thing (I haven't tried), I might have to go even more often. To address some of the things that others mentioned: Yes, it's small, but lots of good places are. Yes, the drinks take awhile, but I don't know of ANY high-end cocktail place that can cranks them out. Get over it and enjoy your time there. I've never experienced rude or pretentious (anymore than that are always is) service, but that would annoy me. The server/bartender has always been quite nice to my friends and me. I also checked out their list of vintage liquors last time I was there. I didn't try any (because money) but the fact that they have them at all is impressive.

Yelp
Oh Gigantic, I would make this a love letter but I won't! Easily one of the best bars I've ever been to. So warm, fun and chic. The atmosphere is BEYOND. So welcoming and holds a special place in my heart. Service amazing, cocktails amazing, STAFF one in a million. I'll let the drinks speak for themselves.

Yelp
I was introduced to Gigantic on a second date a couple years ago and I now return annually for their Escape the Northeast tiki pop-up every year. They totally transform the bar into a tropical escape. It's a delight just to wander the bar and discover all the different tchotchkes and memorabilia. In particular, there's a shrine to Elvis in the bathroom. The tiki drinks are a mix of traditional with creative new spins, and each is accompanied with the history of the drink and why the flavors are what they are. I like this background information to help one understand the whole tiki culture. There are generally only a couple people working the bar and it can get very crowded, but service has always been great on my visits. I look forward to this every year!

Yelp
This place came highly recommended, and the cocktail I had did not disappoint. It was very nice. The selection of liquor is impressive, and the bar staff is very competent and knowledgeable. Ambiance is cute. But the manner of service is just too rude and pretentious. They seem to have forgotten that this is, after all, a small town in Western Mass where details of service matter. Again, very competent bar staff. But there are at least two other cocktail bars within a 5 mile radius with a similarly good bottle inventory and a similarly talented staff that understand service.

Yelp
My friend brought me here for a nightcap round of cocktails. The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable. They have spirits here with novel combinations that you cant find other places. Pretty much all the cocktails are about $13-15, which is pretty standard. The interior is dark and literally candle lit. There is limited seating in this semi-hole-in-the-wall. Both cocktails we got were freshly made and delicious. Give this place a shot

Yelp
Great cocktails! Really nice guys serving up the drinks. Cool spot for a quiet hangout.

Yelp
Cool bar for a date night. Excellent cocktails. I'm surprised how long it took me to notice this business as I frequently work in this area. Only complaint was that the service was terrible. Took a long time for someone to take our order (only 1 other person was at the bar at the time, so clearly not busy), took a long time to make our 2 drinks (acceptable as they were delicious), and took FOREVER to come back after our drinks were finished. In fact it was so long that our desire to have another round was gone and we just paid the tab and left. Will return and hopefully update this review with better results.

Yelp
REALLY NICE! I love an improvisational Manhattan, what can I say? And the lady barkeep on duty gave me something so nice, so smoky, so spicy... it was great! Yes, the place is tiny, that's why they call it "gigantic". I'm sure the folks running the place would love to have, and fill, a larger venue but it is what it is. The decor is interesting too, all sorts of antique crystal and photographs of long-past Presidents and a book wall full of quaint books. The only problem is that they have no parking area and the on-street parking is mighty sparse.

Yelp
Delicious and inventive cocktails served in a cool spot. Pricey but worth the splurge.

Yelp
This is a nice bar. It has a nice vibe with the decor, lighting, and music. I had a couple of classic drinks (Martini and Sazerac) and both were made really well. Only complaint is that it's really small inside. The seats get taken quickly, and there isn't much standing room.

Jane G.

Yelp
This petite bar has a spot-on gay Ernest Hemingway vibe. Key West era Ernest with the 6-toed cats. Drinks are delicious, folks are happy to be there. The playlists can be a little bizarre though--Ice Cube followed by mmmBop.

Yelp
What a beautiful lounge! Fills a big void amongst noisy sports bars, dance clubs, etc. Sometimes you just want to have pleasant conversation with chill background music while enjoying a well crafted cocktail. This is just the spot to lift off or wind down and escape chaos. They recently updated their specialty cocktails for the season. Went as a party of 4 and all of our drinks were expertly crafted and delicious. The decor is retro/classy/cozy. So unique and special. Definitely check this place out.

Yelp
Stop in for a drink or two...love this place !! Great selection of high quality cocktails, cool decorum and ambience, topped with great, knowledged, smiling service !!

Yelp
I usually make any excuse to cancel evening plans but I'm really happy I followed through and went. I rarely go to bars so I usually feel awkward but this place is so inviting and fun. Tasty(and strong)drinks , nice and unpretentious bartenders, disco ball and fun music to wiggle in my chair to. Worth the trip on a frigid night from Cummington to Easthampton.I shall return!

Yelp
Super cool spot!!! Beautiful, small and quaint inside with delicious signature drinks. Love it!!

Yelp
Great spot for swanky cocktails in the Brooklyn of Pioneer Valley. Kind of a small spot but atmosphere is great, windows open onto the street and decor is hipster artsy.

Yelp
Do not miss this excellent spot in Easthampton!! Great vibe. Delicious drinks. Terrific bartenders. We'll definitely be back!!

Yelp
Cocktail bar with events and performances, bringing the fancy and the fun back to Cottage St. in the wake of Popcorn Noir/Platinum Pony's departure. Beautifully lit, easily the nicest looking and most unique interior on the street. A vast improvement over The Library (former occupant of the space), far more welcoming, including a floor to ceiling sliding window out on to the street in the warm months. Cocktails on the menu will set you back around $13, but you can get a regular well drink or a $3 Schaefer can. If you do spring for the fancy stuff, it's most definitely worth it. The charge of "Brooklyn hipsters" sticks: it's a tiny space (hence the ironic name), cramped and not so lovely bathroom, and they even have trucker hats with the Gigantic logo on sale at the bar. A large rainbow flag hangs out front, though not is not ostensibly a queer bar. Still, a wide range of people come through, the staff is all very friendly, and the events have a joyous vibe. Great place for both date night and mingling.

Yelp
Really nice laid-back cocktail bar with fantastic libations. Great vibe, fun place to hang out and shoot the breeze.

Yelp
Has drinks last night here. Nice vibe, cozy, and good A/C. They make a great penicillin, my new favorite cocktail. I'll be back!

Yelp
Perfect cocktail bar. Well crafted and delicious cocktails--innovative recipes. Great vibe, bartender highly skilled and charming. Will definitely come again!

Natural M.

Yelp
The atmosphere is charming, with a slight hipster vibe. Our cocktails were crafted with care and unique details (like freeze dried orange) that have remained in my memory even weeks later. The beer and wine list is modest, though I imagine they are well selected (having partnered with Provisions in Northampton).
