Spotlighted by the City of Arlington, this downtown taqueria built a following for birria with consommé, hearty breakfast tacos, and all‑day Mexican comfort plates. Owner José Ruiz opened it in 2019, and it’s become a true neighborhood fixture.

Gilbertos is the definition of a hidden gem in Arlington. It looks like a little hole-in-the-wall spot, but don’t let that fool you — this place is clean clean. That was the first thing I noticed, and it makes a huge difference. The food is just as impressive. My sandwich was excellent — meat seasoned to perfection, tender, and full of flavor. They give you the full spread too: salad, pico, beans, and sides. The fries came plain, but that’s an easy fix with a little salt. The menudo was also on point — it was being devoured at our table, so that tells you enough. Even with a crowd, the service was fast. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes, hot and fresh. Bottom line: Gilbertos is clean, quick, and full of flavor. Definitely a city gem in Arlington worth checking out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
We tried this place a few nights ago and have gotten dinner here for the 3rd night in a row.. FANTASTIC food. It’s Mexican restaurant quality (better honestly) for a reasonable price. Tacos are to die for. The nachos are killer. We order and pick up so for the nachos to still be incredible an hour later.. It’s magical sorcery. Crispy chips? No soggy crap? This place is a complete 10/10

Google
The food was generally okay. It wasn’t the greatest, as the beans and the rice didn’t taste great. The beans felt like the stuff you bought at the store and the rice was bland in a way. The chicken tacos had no seasoning, so it heavily relied on the sauces and limes they gave you. The burrito wasn’t too bad, but was better than the tacos. The good thing was that the ingredients were fresh.

Google
Gilberto’s! Will always be one of my favorite places to go. Introduced my friend to this place, we both enjoyed our food and the services as well. I ordered the loaded fries and the other picture is a burrito with rice and beans. Definitely looking forward to coming back.

Google
The ramen birria is so good make sure you don’t wear white. The burrito was so big and so good. Maria was an excellent server.

Google
I ordered 3 fajita tacos. I specifically asked for the fajita meat to be well done and for the verduras on the side. The lady on the phone told me the verdura already comes on the side… below is what I got and I had to cook the meat at home.

Google
Husband got the Birria Ramen and I got the birria quesadilla both really good. My only mistake with my food was it was way to much food for 1 person!! I would recommend sharing it with someone.

Google
We found this little place by good luck! We come from a small town where it’s hard to find good authentic food and this place is exactly what I needed and wanted! My husband got the rolled tacos and loved it, while I got a Barbacoa burrito with papas and cheese and cilantro and a side of rice! The portions were massive and generous! I definitely did my happy girl food dance looking at this food!! The flavors were top notch and the lady taking orders was so nice to us! Highly recommend Gilberto’s!!!

Yelp
BEST TACOS PLACE AROUND!!! I have ate a lot of taco places throughout my life and this one has to be the best one so far.

Yelp
Gilberto's that name has soo many variants when it comes to taco shops that have the same style of Mexican food and none of them ever disappoint as being from California I have eaten at soo many of them over the years! Hot Cheetos fries was what it was all about here as that just screams something I haven't had in a very long time as this style of Mexican food just doesn't really exist in many places away from the west. The hot Cheetos fries were yummy those thin not very good French fries with a bunch of delicious asada on top plenty of the spicy Cheetos and cheese to make it all taste amazing but don't count it out without some of their delicious hot sauce both the milder one and the hotter one were yummy and definitely added more zest to an already yummy pile of goodness! My lady ordered a California burrito and she said she liked it and it was full of flavor even more so with the sauce on top! Overall yummy spot so do yourself a favor and don't skip out on a Mexican place that has one of those names as the food is always good and very similar to others doing this style!

Yelp
Found Gilberto's on tiktok and immediately had to try, these were some of the best birria tacos I've had! It's a bit small inside but the service was good and fast! We took a bit to order because the menu is huge, while we looked it over the cashier was nice enough to clean a table off for us. We ordered birria ramen, birria tacos, a carne asada torta, horchata, big red and manzanita to drink. The birria was sooo flavorful and really some of the best I've tried. Although, we didn't really care for the ramen. It was too think and hearty, and really was just ramen noodles in the consome. Personally, I think it'd be better if it had a birria broth, like actual ramen. Also, the carne asada torta could've been better, the meat was so chopped it all fell out. It could also use some more toppings like maybe beans or avocado, it was good but kind of bland. Overall, everything was good! I'd definitely come back and try some other menu items.

Yelp
Best Mexican food we have found. Authentic hole-in-the-wall Mexican food. Burritos are enormous. Everything made fresh. Churros from heaven. Prices are SO low. Better than the more expensive restaurants we've been to! We went back two days in a row. EAT HERE!

Yelp
Gilbertos Taco Shop is located in Arlington, TX, on Abram, and is just a short few blocks from Globe life serving up great fast Mexican food including breakfast burritos that are served all day plus combination platters, tacos, and your regular burritos. From the view on Abram, it doesn't look like parking, but if you pull in, there is parking in the back adjacent to the auto shop. I came in before lunch and was greeted by the lovely staff and was presented a menu to order from at the counter. The menu is posted up on flat-screen tvs, and they also have paper menus as well. I went ahead and ordered the California burrito that came with Carne asada, fries, cheese, and Pico. The place isn't that big but offers roughly a good amount of seating for your friends and family to join you. There is a salsa station inside that had a nice variety of salsa with pickled carrots, onions, and jalapeños. They also have tapatio and Valentina as well. Within minutes, my food was ready and was presented to me for my dine in order. The burrito was packaged and rolled nicely in a piece of paper. When I took off the wrapper, the heat from burrito startled me, and I got excited! The tortilla was perfectly grilled and soft and had a nice fat to flour ratio. Quick time first bite and wowwww! I was surprised how loaded and packed this thing was! The Carne was seasoned well, and the cheese was melted to perfection. All of the sauces complimented this beauty perfectly, and I kept digging in regardless of how hot and fresh this masterpiece was. It was an awesome meal, too, Jumpstart my day! The food was marvelous and packed with lots of love from the chef. This wasn't a dry burrito but a juicy wet burrito with all the fat drippings waiting for you at the bottom of the tortilla. I'll definitely be back, and I'm excited to try more items such as the enchiladas or tortas! Thank you, Gilbertos, for a stunning meal!

Yelp
I enjoyed the food a lot. It is a bit smaller inside for indoor seating but besides that, staff was great. Horchata could use some work, but overall, I loved it here.
google avatar

Nathalie Z.

Yelp
Delicious! Food was great size for the cost. Service was great and server was very friendly. Only downside is no soda machine or water cups, only bottled drinks except for horchata, jamaica, and two other juices.
google avatar

Yelp
Gilberto's is probably the best taco shop around. Their food is so authentic and not tex mex style. What prompt me to write the review tonight was the customer service. I called 12 minutes before they close and she took my order! Didn't give an attitude just was happy to take my order. How sweet. Their customer service is usually really good. I'm really happy with how my food turned out tonight!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice Mom and Pop family style restaurant, not much parking (the gentleman next door at the auto shop let my daughter part behind his truck. This was our first time here and the young ladies who took our orders were polite and very patient with us as we explored the menu. The portions are large and us girls were happy with our plates, only one take out plate was needed and that was for that huge burrito. My son had the quesobirra tacos, two out of his three taco had a big piece of fat which left nothing in the taco. So he really only had one taco. Three out of four dishes were a success.
google avatar

Aubrey M.

Yelp
Everything is delicious and I mean everything! I've had nachos, taco salad, the Arlington burrito, breakfast tacos, all things Birria along with enchiladas and crispy tacos. Their green salsa is the bomb!
google avatar

Tara H.

Yelp
Had the sausage breakfast burrito and it was okay but pretty flavorless. Taco enchilada plate husband said taco was good enchilada not good. Rice was plain and bland tasting. Vanilla custard filled churro was good but felt a lil greasy. Ambiance is very industrial with painted concrete and styrofoam plates but seemed clean. Although lots of flies. Ladies at the counter were friendly and helpful. Overall was okay meal for the price but would not return.
google avatar

Josh T.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Homemade salsas. Breakfast burrito was huge and delicious. Highly recommend!

Keymon L.

Yelp
Reasonably priced. Large portions. Get your money's worth for sure. Only thing about the birria ramen the portion is very big so have the To-Go container ready so you can eat it later.
google avatar

Savannah S.

Yelp
We've gotten their burritos and they are good! The carne asada meat is a little fatty and hard to chew sometimes but the pastor was good. Their rice and beans are pretty good too!! I just tried their hot Cheetos burrito and it was delicious too!! The perfect combo of tastes. Thanks Gilberto's, keep up the good burrito!! Cute, local stop too! Very bright and colorful with nice staff! Family friendly too!

Victoria L.

Yelp
I went in on Sunday and ordered to go, I ordered Birria tacos and ramen Birria, tacos were great but when it came to the ramen Birria there was absolutely no ramen in that bowl.
google avatar

Yitzhak O.

Yelp
I enjoyed my Breakfast Tacos and the prices are very good. I had a little confusion orderdering I like Chorizo con Huevo with chopped jalepenos. I believe the Tacos come with some ingredients already included. The service is very friendly! I wish they listed their different Breakfast Tacos on their menu. They're very helpful when you order. I'll be visiting them more often now that I've tried Gilberto's.
google avatar

Kelsey K.

Yelp
Come here for lunch a few times with coworkers. This place is a true hole in the wall but incredibly delicious! Last trip I got the carne asada burrito which was great and filling. In the past I've gotten the birria tacos. Highly recommend for a quick stop for food!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this little spot! Best carne asada fries I have had here in Dallas!! Everything we have had is always on point! And the service is always good!! I have never had a bad experience!! I have been coming here for years now and I will still be going!! All the food here is so good even the breakfast burritos

Leslie O.

Yelp
Food service was great. The chicken tacos did feel like home. Horchata did not taste how I was hoping it would, but honestly it's difficult to get the flavor just right. The prices weren't the best either, but it was okay considering it's Arlington. Good customer service.

Sheema S.

Yelp
Service was great. Got the food in a timely manner and food was so good. I definitely will be visiting this place again once I'm in the area.
google avatar

Tim G.

Yelp
Born and raised in San Diego and this is the closest burrito I've had since. Just the whole ambience reminded me of a true taco shop. Salsa bar and Carne Asada was awesome. Breakfast burritos were on point.

Bill W.

Yelp
Great burritos . Have ordered there many times . Friendly folks . Location easy to get in and out of

Joseph S.

Yelp
Has completely gone downhill since franchising. I have been coming less and less, and was coming here when it first opened when the burritos were 6.75$. They up the price on everything but the service has gotten so much worse. If I'm going to continue to pay more then why should I have to deal with an attitude? Definitely finding a new spot because I can't find a reason to come here. Definitely sad!
google avatar

Ralf R.

Yelp
Found this place with coworkers. I ordered the quessabirra tacos cause they looked good in the Google pics. It was about 11ish bucks for 4 tacos. They wernt bad but yhey went great. Didn't have much taste but they were cheezy. All in all it was ok The parking here is non extent so be prepared for that the inside is pretty cramped and the yables are small booths but the staff is really nice. Next time I'll probably order to go
google avatar

Kavaragu M.

Yelp
Super small, hole in the wall places often have the best food. This place lives up to that. I ordered to go and while they were very busy, my food was ready in about 5 mins-- and it was a custom order so it had to be made fresh. The burrito reminds me of mission burritos from back home and I prefer this any day over tex mex.
google avatar

Graciella R.

Yelp
large variety on menu, birria tacos are great, so are the barbacoa, fast service. decent dining area, but narrow drive thru, fyi- recommended
google avatar

Yvonne G.

Yelp
Happy I tried this place, hard to find a place with big burritos, refried beans and red sauce. Got take out so I bought a variety of items to try at home with the family. Everything was good, bought the big burrito with steak and it was pretty much vegetarian. We were so disappointed, I guess I should have got extra meat. Burrito was full of lettuce. Would like to point out how nice the staff was, considering it was my first time. Good food m, I'll be back.

Karime M.

Yelp
What is this? Dry, no flavor please don't get these! To be completely honest the taste like they've been out for days. Buy at your own risk
google avatar

Craig C.

Yelp
This was my first visit to this location and I will never return. The staff was completely unhelpful and even rude when I asked questions. The other location on park row is welcoming and their staff is friendly and accommodating. I would have to say that neither location has a good parking lot.

terriyah p.

Yelp
10/10 - I moved here from Vegas couldn't find nothing that taste to perfection. One day I was at the car lot and Victor insisted I try Gilbertos. OMG DELICIOUS MY GO TO LITERALLY NOW
google avatar

Kristin H.

Yelp
Im an addicted to the tacos and I've recommended this place to everyone! Just don't get the horchata

Yelp
Gotta go to Gilberto's. It's been a prominent spot on Abram Street since 1979, pretty hard to miss with it's bright red and yellow paint. You've probably seen the outside. And if you haven't yet, you now need to experience the inside (or at least order delivery) so you can understand what Gilbertos is beloved for... their delicious delicious DELICIOUS tacos! And all their other wondrous food. Jon and I finally made our way in a few days ago. Gilberto's is a pretty tiny spot with a handful of parking spots, so be patient if there's a little wait. We came around 2pm on a weekday and only waited about 10 minutes for our food. Upon entering, we noticed a few things right away... my favorite thing: Halloween decorations!! Jon's favorite thing: Cowboys Football (they had TVs on playing sports and Cowboy fan paraphernalia on the walls). And then a favorite thing that we both share a love for.... a salsa bar! Beware the red salsa.. it's SPICY. But so good. We ordered 8 birria tacos with all the fixings... they come stuffed with soooo much beef and cheese with diced onion, cilantro, and sliced radishes on the side. The tacos are assembled and then dipped in a delicious consomé (which is like a broth of chiles and spices). Then the consomé-soaked tacos are pan-fried! It's the best thing ever.... be sure to dunk your taco in more consomé before every bite, you get your own side of it! We also got a side of refried beans. Maybe a boring side to some, but when refried beans are REALLY good they're really REALLY good, you know?! And Gilberto's are sooooo perfect. They have a ton of flavor and you get a huge portion, so there's lots of leftovers. The staff was kind, the restaurant was super clean, service was speedy, and the food is the best! And they have a horchata fountain machine.

Yelp
This is one of my new favorite places to go for Enchiladas. I found this place by accident last year and I'm glad I did. I lived in Colorado for 20 years and they serve green chile ( thicker sauce that includes chiles, pork, tomatoes, onions and spices) that is simmered for hours in most of their Mexican dishes. New Mexico style is better than Colorado. :) While looking over the menu I noticed they have green chile (tex mex style) on the menu. I never tried Tex Mex style before so I opted for it instead of the red enchilada sauce. Their version is not the same as New Mexico or Colorado but it's still good. This place has everything you'd expect in a taco shop including breakfast burritos (served all day), Menudo on the weekends, Mexican sodas , combination meals, kids menu and California style burritos for those that like french fries in their burrito and smothered fries. The dipping sauce for the birria taco is bland so I ate them plain and were very good. They also have a salsa bar. Take out orders will come with your choice of salsa but there are more to choose from at the salsa bar. Great food, prices and customer service. This place is worth the drive.

Yelp
Best Mexican food. Not Texas Mexican. Real Mexican food. Only a few tables and parking is tight. Get the food to go and enjoy.
google avatar

Yelp
First where came to town for a concert the menudo was a 10! All the tacos were excellent only more hominy in the menudo but still very very good definitely will be back next time we are in town
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent enchiladas! Friendly and helpful staff. Nice and clean. Parking needs help. Highly Recommend!

Yelp
I found this little spot on Yelp so my coworker & I decided to go try it out on are lunch. She had a burrito and I had the birra tacos. We both agreed that we will definitely eat here again. Food was delicious, customer service was great, prices were decent, salsa was good & it was nice & clean. I post a picture but I was so hungry I ate it before thinking to snap a pic.
google avatar

alyssa m.

Yelp
I got the egg, cheese, and potatoes burrito plus a veggie burrito, and a churro All was incredible (especially the breakfast burrito) Another bonus was I had plenty of leftovers because the burritos are huge!
google avatar

LeShea B.

Yelp
Based on the reviews, I thought I would be pleased with my experience. Never again. The two stars is for the cashier, Tony, who was cool/funny. I give no rating to the food. Parking: TIGHT. It's a small establishment, and there is parking in the back, sides, and in the front. Please don't park where you can be blocked in. What we ordered : 1 Nachos supreme 2 beef tacos 1 chicken taco 3 tostados (2 beef and one I told to make however they like it) Chicken- nice flavor. 3/5 but Very dry. We were given no salsa, so I had to get some from home. It still didn't help much. Tacos are a crunchy shell--- a chip like consistency. One stabbed me- I guess I was talking too badly about it. ‍ Beef tacos weren't good, either. Dry. Tostadas were a little on the salty side, but better than the tacos. I wouldn't order them again, though. The nachos were the best thing ordered. And I still wouldn't order them from here again. My total was $28.16. I'm assuming the prices went up from a year ago (there is a menu picture from a year ago). If they didn't, I can't account for the missing $4+. Would not recommend.

Nayeli E.

Yelp
Asked for a burrito with guacamole inside $8 pretty fucking simple Gave me a fkn ONION burrito save you're money and go somewhere else!!
google avatar

Armann H.

Yelp
Amongst our group we got: carne asada fries, carne asada tacos, beef tostada and birria burrito and all were bomb. Burrito maybe had a little too many beans if we are being nitpicky - but it was still bomb.
google avatar

Mary T.

Yelp
Ordered menudo, Carne asada tacos and birria tacos to go. Food was done fairly quickly. Husband says this is the best menudo he's had in his entire life. Full of flavor. Plenty of items within it. And he's tried many many places. For to go being amazing, can't wait to try it sitting down instead next time. I did not really care for the Carne asada tacos. The meat tasted boiled. Chewy and lacked flavor. Won't order it next time. Green salsa was spicy, which was so good! Birria tacos was very good. Definitely recommend! Crispy, full of savory flavor! Long grain rice, not really a fan. But the refried beans were really really good.

Jason L.

Yelp
A great go to Mexican food spot in Arlington for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Arlington burrito is the best.
google avatar

Lan N.

Yelp
Food was good, hot and fresh. Tortilla was fluffy soft! Breakfast burrito had a lot of filling and their hot sauces are top notch!
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
-Hidden gem, hole in the wall. -Industrial part of town and shares limited parking with garage/muffler shop next door. -Authentic Mexican -$ very reasonable prices.
google avatar

Jaycee B.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place but it was just average to me. The salsa was okay and the red sauce has a smoky flavor I didn't care for. We ordered a variety of items to try and share. We got the super fries, rolled taco with cheese and guac, fish taco, crispy beef taco, chicken and steak tacos. The rolled tacos were by far our least favorite, they didn't really have any flavor and the guacamole they use isn't actual guac. It's like a bright green cream sauce that doesn't taste very good. The tortillas were soft and tender but nothing stood out as amazing and made me want to come back. It is well priced, the servers are super friendly and nice and the food comes out fast.
google avatar

Supykun ..

Yelp
Lady was blunt like she didn't like customers. Maybe it's just her personality. Vanilla churros were great, but I struggled to get down the carne asada burritos cause it was way too salty. Prices seemed high as well. Wasn't enjoyable.

Dorothy R.

Yelp
Food is incredible. Service was great. The girl working the counter is very nice and helpful
