Came here once on a first date, and left questioning everything.
Upon arrival I was blown away by the decor, everything looked as if it had once been used on an old sailboat. I asked the host, I think his name was Collin, if the decor was authentic and he said he doubted it. My date posted it to her story anyways. After sitting down and looking over the menu I noticed most of the drinks were given thematic names such as, 'Spicy Skipper' and 'A Shore Thing' . We giggled and decided to get a round of 'skippers. The drink was a spicy citrus tequila cocktail, pretty good. I ended up getting three. The date was going swell but I couldn't stop thinking about the decor. The place craved to be a rustic sailors' paradise. It was so corporate and phony.
So here I was, enjoying an overpriced avocado smash in a place that reassembled a cheap movie set and I thought: Ya, I'm a rebel, I mean I'm trying to be. I used to be. It's hard to be a rebel in a world where everybody's cool. In a world where everybody is on edge, the subcultures have been sucked up at least the fashions, the looks. In a world where long-haired yuppies ride Harleys, where preppies sport tattoos, and even pre-teen kids from BelAir have been there and done that. Everybody's hip, everybody's hip, everybody's hip.
And then my server, I think her name was Suzy, gave me the key I was looking for. She said, "the most daring, outlandish, revolutionary thing you could do in 21st century America is to treat everybody, people you know and people you don't know, with dignity and kindness whenever possible." That was it for me
My date was happy and I left a changed man. Good spot, would recommend.
