We rolled in 30 deep after 7pm. Our hostess and the staff nailed the service. Every family said their food was so good. I had the Wertzburger warrior and it was amazing. Can't forget the pillows from heaven, or cheese curds as it was listed on the menu. A+ experience

Josiah was AMAZING. Food was spectacular. Had the fried green beans and josiah recommended the spinach artichoke dip. Green beans were lightly breaded - perfect. Josiah said it’s the best spin dip in des moines and it did not disappoint. Every suggestion josiah made was spot on. He really knows the menu and actually enjoys the food himself. For entrees we had the mac n cheese & the honey bacon pizza. Mac n cheese was 10/10, pizza was a 8/10. Wasn’t a fan of the crust. Had espresso martinis which were a little too boozy for me. No complaints otherwise. Josiah was attentive, kind, and quick. Will be coming back for sure.

Excellent food and the appetizers may seem high but most definitely not for what you get. Will definitely be back.

We came to Gilroy’s for a big birthday brunch with a lot of people, and Courtney was nothing short of amazing. Large groups can be a challenge, but she made it look effortless. Bottomless mimosas truly felt bottomless, as our classes never fell empty, food came out just right, and she kept everything organized without ever missing a beat. She didn’t just serve us… she celebrated with us!! Her energy and attentiveness made the whole experience so much more special 🤍 Courtney truly went above and beyond, turning what could’ve been a hectic brunch into one of the best dining experiences we’ve had. Gilroy’s is lucky to have her — we’ll definitely be asking for Courtney next time!

A place to grab some drinks and food with a small or large group of friends. Plenty of seating inside as well as outside. Food is very good

Great selection of food, everything we got looked and tasted great! Huge tenderloin, yummy hot chicken and delicious Buffalo BBQ chicken pizza. The cheese curds are 👌🏽Tasty Drinks and friendly service. Large outdoor seating and we had live music (which has its pros and cons depending on how close you are).

Our family of 5 had such a great experience at Gilroy's for a Saturday morning brunch. Our server Dominic was the best! The food...oh buddy! I would most certainly recommend the loaded mashed potatoes, corn flake French toast, cinnamon roll bread pudding, and the biscuits and gravy. All of the portions were solid and you can just keep ordering so much! They let you box whatever you don't eat. Highly recommended for the cleanliness, service and atmosphere. Good music as well!

Go here for brunch, omg!! Everything was delicious, fresh. Our servicer, Joe, was excellent; fast, nice, and accommodating. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Just go!!

was looking for a GF spot along our drive through Des Moines and Gilroy's did not disappoint! The best spinach dip I've had (we got with tortilla chips, but they do have GF naan chips to). Also ordered caesar salad with chicken and the dressing was amazing. Sweet potatoes on the side w/ garlic aoili. Super nice server too. 10/10!

You can never go wrong when you step into Gilroy's and order from their creative menu. The "Shrimp & Grits" has just enough spice with the added flavor of Graziano Sausage. The wait staff replenishes your drink of choice while asking you to try their favorite dessert- cheese cake. The quiet environment gives off a pleasant sensation of satisfaction all for a reasonable price.

We had appetizers and pizza. Both were excellent as well as the mixed drinks. We had driven past this restaurant but this was our first meal there.

I have had take out twice from here and I've gotten their byob (build your own burger) with a gluten free bun and baked sweet potato fries. Both times I have been so happy with my burgers but especially the last time because I added a garlic aioli to it and it was divine. The sweet potato fries are so good as well. My burger has been perfectly made each time too just how I ask for it to be cooked. I can't iterate enough how happy it makes me when I find a place who offers gf options because of my allergy. The service is fast and the ambiance seems good too. I'd like to try going here for brunch because I've heard good things about it as well. Their patio seems perfect for spring/summer time. I'll keep you all updated if I dine in here anytime soon.

Mixed drinks cheaper than drafts. Drinks were good. After looking at the menu we opted to go.elsewgere as the prices seemed high for the amount of food & area. But it was a nice restaurant. Friendly staff. Took a while to get our drinks though even though they were seemingly not busy at all (2 other small parties) then took an even longer time to get our check. We did not try the food. We didnt use the restrooms either. We might return to try something to eat.

All I can say is if your cold-blooded don't come here. It was cold, I left my coat on the whole time and my feet were freezing. I asked our waitress if she could turn up the heat a bit and she said the owner runs the thermostat from his phone. So unless the owner is on location and feels the chill, it won't get warmer. ‍. My chicken was rubbery and the steak sandwich was so so. We use to enjoy coming here, but won't be back for a while. Our waitress was great though!!

If you were looking for a dive bar environment, and affordable bottomless drinks this would be a fun place for you. I was looking for a brunch spot and from the menu I thought it would be a good place. I actually enjoy brunch food and the food was low quality, some seemed like frozen food. I thought the service was good, but my husband said every time she left she was muttering insults as she left. It just advertises like it was a quality Bunch place in the food was like a dive bar back kitchen snack shack.

We visited on a Friday evening in the middle of December. Part of the restaurant was closed for corporate Christmas parties, but there was still plenty of seating available and we were seated right away. Menu had a wide range of options but was mostly focused on American style fare. There was a large selection of premium whiskeys/bourbon. The whiskey burger and the pepper jam burger were ordered. They were cooked to order and very tasty. The Parmesan fries were fresh and crispy. A very typical atmosphere with a traditional dining area and a bar area with lots of tvs if you wanted to watch any sports.

On Sundays, it's family Buffett style for around $25. But let me tell you, it's a TON of food, there's a TON of items to choose from, and you even get one take-home box. ‍ We came in around 1pm on Sunday with football in full swing and were able to be seated at the bar. Our waitress had a full section to serve at the bar plus be the bartender for all the drink orders coming in from other servers, and she never missed a beat. She gave great recommendations on food when we ordered, kept our drinks full until our food arrived, and always had an eye on us in case we needed anything else. The food: delicious. I had the citrus salad. Exactly as it sounds and it was very fresh and light. The crispy bacon was just that, crispy and so good. I'm picky on Mac n cheese, so it was a bit dry, but my son loved it, especially the chicken on top. My husband loved the biscuits and gravy and the pancakes were fluffy. I also noticed the array of whisky on the shelf, so I'm going to have to come back for drinks next time and also try their regular menu. Definitely will be back and hope we get the same server/bartender. Saylor was her name. (Not pictured was the amazing brownies and fried chicken)

Came on Saturday the day before Father's Day. There was an extended menu with additional items including steak and Cajun pasta. The steak was tender and flavorful, but it was Josiah that made brunch amazing. He was very accommodating and fast. He was was able to give recommendations and even move our table from outside to inside. We always get exceptional service when here. Love Gilroys.

Let's start with the good, the service was good, mimosas were flowing and I like the vibe of the place...but little else. My wife and I did the family style brunch and bottomless mimosas. We had the crispy potatoes, breakfast nachos and crispy chicken mac-n-cheese . The potatoes were the best of the three and the that's not saying much. In all seriousness I've had better breakfast at some upscale hotel buffets. And all of that comes with a hefty price tag. For the money I'd rather go to Home Grown or Eggs and Jam (my personal favorite)

Tried 3 pizzas to go. Cheeseburger was the best. Taste of mustard or similar to consider. Honey bacon Alfredo. Good. Honey needed for sweetness. Sausage / pep was lacking sauce, dry. All 3 needed the sauce/toppings more towards the edge as the crust was tough and much of it was tossed.

Food is typically above average unfortunately it can also be just so so. Wait staff is very good and attentive, never had a bad experience here.

Overall, Gilroy's delights with solid food and great service. We started with wings and cheese curds. These are a nice thinly battered curd, tempura style I think. Wonderful! The fried chicken is legit. Nicely breaded and seasoned, juicy chicken. The green beans were large and some were fairly raw. Thick and just not pleasant to eat. The scalloped potatoes were pretty good, but a bit under seasoned. Just missing something. Also enjoyed the jambalaya pasta with shrimp and sausage. Loved the spices, the veg, the whole dish just worked. The kids meal pizza was very well done and I would have been happy with that as my entree! Lots of places really do the bare minimum with kids meals but thrush pizza tasted great. We had a fairly large group, about 8. They did change an 18% tip automatically, which was fine, just be aware they do that for larger parties. They did give good service and handled our group with ease.

This is no regular pub with a patio! This is a gourmet delight in hiding!! The service is delightful. We sat out in the patio which was aerated and comfortable. The pitchers of mules are so worth it!! Recommend the Peach & strawberry mules highly!! We ordered family style to share. The burger is way more than a mouthful and absolutely delicious. On the top of my list of best burgers ever! The pizza was thin crusted and also amazing. Was too full to order dinner but I guarantee I'll be back here again next month when I'm back in Iowa!!

Food was fresh and very good. The fish & chips had the perfect blend of breading and meat. The server was very kind and helpful. Will likely come back.

I go for the fries and get the salad with salmon. Life is good! I must mention Erica, great service at the bar. Fries are hot and crispy, dusted with Parmesan. Salad full of flavor with apple, mango, almonds, blue cheese perfectly cooked salmon. Great overhead music too! Talking heads psycho killer. So fun!

We've been back a couple of times since my earlier review, and the food hasn't quite measured up to that experience. My wife and I went with another couple recently to grab dinner and watch the basketball tournament. We had a reservation for a bar table, and we were seated right away, and ourserver Maia was great. I got the grilled chicken sandwich, which comes with cheddar and garlic aioli. Now i like both of those, so I figured, 'why not?'. Unfortunately they just kind of cancelled each other out for me and didn't add a lot of flavor. The chicken was OK, but not memorable. Same for my wife with the Cauliflower Cake Sandwich-fine, but nothing memorable. She got sweet potato fries and i got regular ones - they were all hot and crisp, but very salty. I got a mixed drink and it was bland as well. Either the juice was watered down or everything was warm when it went in. Again, nothing wrong with it, just not very good. They do charge a 2.75% non-cash adjustment; not unusual and it is very well noted so it's not a surprise.

The food was pretty good, but pricey. The service was good, and the ambiance was nice. The food could have been more impressive for the price, but overall not bad. Thanks for everything.

For the bloody!!! This place was recommended for best bloody and it did not disappoint. the staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to pay on our phones. We also had the spin dip abd nachos. Good standard bar fare. They have great brunch specials !! The kitchen closes 2-230 to switch over but bar is still open

We went for Mother's Day Brunch on Saturday had bottomless mimosas and screwdrivers. Price and service were excellent! Most of the food was excellent and what wasn't was a personal taste difference Atmosphere was a little loud but again personal taste. We will go again!

Parking: They have a fairly decent sized designated lot, so parking is usually pretty easy. Atmosphere: kind of has a sassy, upbeat vibe with a fun ginger theme throughout..ginger being a redhead, might be their unofficial mascot!? Seating: Low tops and booths on the restaurant side and high tops and bar seating on the bar side as well as a large, extended patio partially covered. Service: We sat up at the bar during lunch hour with barely anyone there. Service was slow, but I think they may have been busy stocking and refilling items since it was a slower time. Food: Both items were very flavorful, cooked throughly, hot, and tasty. Chicken was crispy and the parm fries were *chef's kiss*.

Food and service is consistently great! Nice atmosphere. Staff is always personable and polite. Carry out has always been quick as well.

We had a Groupon so stopped on a rainy day for a 3:30 pm meal. Was it lunch? No lunch specials. Was it dinner? Burger special didn't start until 5 pm. Was it happy hour? Waitress didn't tell us but we overheard another waitress tell her table that there were 1/2 price appetizers. Waitress was pleasant and attentive. Our sodas came quickly and were kept filled. Hubby ordered jambalaya pasta and I had a sausage pepperoni pizza. Food was quickly served. My pizza was tasty and I had leftovers to take home. Hubby's pasta had quite a kick to it. Surprisingly there wasn't any bread with it, which could have tempered the spice. There was enough chicken, shrimp, and sausage for every bite! He liked it, but needed a slice of pizza to cool his mouth. A good choice for a dinner but expensive for this time of day- -$3 sodas.

This was my 2nd time to this restaurant. The service was bad on my first visit but not bad enough to not give it a second chance. But after this visit, I won't be back. The service is just too awful! You wait forever for every step in the process. What should have been a quick happy hour (they weren't even busy!) turned into a 2.5 hr event because we couldn't get service. I even had to get up and pour my own water (and my friends) from the gun behind the bar. Food is ok at best, no value and no service. Do better!

First time here. Ordered chicken sandwhich and sweet potatoe fries. WAY too expensive!!! Everything was prepared well but the lunch should have been no more than 12.00. Could have at least given some slaw with it. Wont go back. p

My best friend and I went to Gilroy's last Sunday for all you can eat brunch & drinks. Their Bloody Mary was delicious and spicy. Did not come with bacon, but you can have it added or add it yourself when you order bacon off the brunch menu. My friend had a mimosa and she loved it. The brunch is worth it, if you have a bigger appetite. They allow you to order four items at a time & that was plenty between my friend & I. They did allow us to take our leftovers and brownies to go home in a box. Overall, the brunch, drinks, environment & staff were great. We shall be back!

Great food and service! I had the tenderloin and my husband had the bacon blue burger. They were big delicious. Also, you must try the curds. They are so amazing.

We were here on the evening of 1/5/24. I can't give a review on the food or service because we were never even acknowledged once we were seated. We saw at least 3 different waitresses walk right past us. 15 minutes went by without "I'll be right with you", a glass of water, or even someone asking IF we had been waited on. We wont be back. First impressions...

I was given a $20 gift certificate due to my experience previously. Much better experience this time than last. I was greeted right away and sat at a table outside. Server was quick to take my order. I had the pineapple Moscow mule which was just okay. Couldn't taste any alcohol and tasted watered down. I ordered the cheese curds which were super yummy. I also ordered the fish tacos and sweet potato fries. Fries where great. Fish Taos were good but could have used more of the sauce that they put on top. Never received any silverware/napkin but overall much better experience that mine first.

Good food, good service, nice patio!! Had reservations for Father's Day and got right in!

Gilroys does exactly what it says it does with excellence. The buffet brunch is now converted to family style service, with no limits! Fried chicken, loaded eggs or loaded potatoes, biscuits and gravy, etc. Beer on tap is fresh and the mixed drinks are well crafted. We had the Bloody Mary, while many diners went with the bottomless mimosas. The brunch will not disappoint!

Stopped there today for brunch with friends and family, party of 5. We've eaten brunch there once before, pre-pandemic, when the brunch was a buffet. It was great then, it's even better now! There's no buffet, instead, you order off the menu, and your food is brought out family style, hot and delicious! You can order what you want, as much as you want. Trust me when I tell you to order extra loaded potatoes. Everything was delicious, Cornflake French Toast, Breakfast Nachos, Biscuits & Gravy, Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes, all the meats, just so so tasty! 2 of us had the unlimited Screwdrivers, Bloody Mary's and Mimosas. When you order the Mimosas, you get your own bottle of Champagne, a carafe of orange juice and lots of fresh juices to mix in, such as Mango, Pomegranate, Grenadine, etc. We were pretty snockered at the end. The really cool thing is that you can take some of your leftovers home, and the left over Champagne was sealed so we could take that home as well. I'm sure this change from buffet to table service brunch has reduced their food waste tremendously, which I appreciate. The service was top notch, our waitress didn't miss a beat and made sure we had plenty of everything we needed. Seeing how I'm in a slightly drunken food coma, I'm gonna go take a nice Sunday nap now! Thanks Gilroy's for a great Sunday!

There is not a ton of vegan stuff on this menu but if you get the right server she will assist you to bliss! I got a fantastic Vegan pizza the other night.. Yep they don't skimp on the toppings here and it packs a punch! If you go on a Sunday they have 7 dollar pizza and they are fantastic.. Also when ordering the fries make sure if you want them vegan to let them know! The fries are really good without that cheese who needs it! (im sure its good too!) I dig the bar here and the dining room. Always sports on the tube and the staff is always really nice! Nice big parking lot and conveniently located just of 235! This is a good spot! That keeps getting better and better!

We met our cousins here for brunch on a Sunday morning. We were surprised and absolutely delighted with the format of the brunch menu. SO MUCH FUN to enjoy with another couple! We order 4 dishes at a time to share and could order as many as we wanted. Our server was an absolute delight and made us feel right at home. The restaurant was hopping with many parties coming and going, so it was nice we could get cozy and never have to leave our table. Awesome service! Delicious variety of scrumptious brunch items. We will definitely be back.

Food is always good. The blueberry salad is amazing, margarita pizza is a favorite. Love the fries. Great neighborhood place.

I dated a redhead back in the 70's. I was just a young punk and she was a waitress at the Denny's in the small town in Kansas where i spent my teens and early twenties. She was a wild, crazy, elegant, ole broad, 12 years my senior and despite her rather checkered past, she taught me more about women then anyone up to that point. She introduced me to quaalude's and acid both of which changed my life. She ended up running off with Rick who was the head cook on some hallucinogenic fueled tryst to the Southwest. I didn't think I'd ever get over her and I've avoided redheads ever since. But damn she was amazing. "I'd really like a steak and an orgasm". Nova says out of the blue. "I can help with one of those but I'm not really in the mood to cook" I'd been looking at Gilroys for a long time but the whole redhead thing kinda spooked me. I should also add that Nova's 3rd ex husband is also a redhead which makes her as enthusiastic about them as a raging yeast infection. Gilroys Webpage said that Wednesday's was steak night so what the hell. We got there pretty early for us, around 6pm and I was immediately pissed off when some privileged jack off in a shiny BMW tried to cut me off and steal my parking spot. If it wasn't for my cat like reflexes and willingness to subject my panty dropping mini van to some rather close calls, he might have gotten it. He drove off after flipping me the bird, not expecting me to leap from my ride and a lunge toward his drivers side door. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned. "The curse has started already" "What curse" "The ginger curse. This place is owned by a ginger or gingers. I'm not sure how many of them there are but it's time to face our fears" We sat ourselves in the bar. Neither one of us had been in this building since it was Jimmys American years ago. I have no idea how many businesses this place has housed and it doesn't matter because Gilroys is here now. And as luck would have it and being that the foodie gods dig us, it was steak night. You know what steak night usually means. It means cheap steak, aging steak or bargain food supplier steak. Regardless our waitress assured us that it was a beautifully prepared and succulent sirloin. I do not believe that I have ever used those words in that particular combination before but she was right. However I also noticed that they have shepherds pie on the menu so we decided to split our entrees. I ordered the steak medium rare more rare leaning and she ordered the shepherds pie. The steak came with endless trips to the salad bar, the pie did not so we paid a small additional fee to make that happen. The steak was everything she promised. Sirloins are not this tender so they either buried it in salt for a few hours or marinated the hell out of it because as far as sirloins go, it was up there. The shepherds pie. Although it certainly contained all the makings of a shepherds pie it was not assembled as such except the taters on top which did have a nice crust on them. The meat and vegetables were tender and tasty but the gravy or whatever it is called...dearsweetbabyjesus, gave me a serious foodie boner. If I had a syringe I would have shot it directly into my veins. It is well known that gingers have no soul. but in this case their food sure as hell does.

I tried these guys a couple times for delivery when GrubHub was new to Des Moines and running free delivery. I thought the food was pretty solid. Fast forward a couple months and thought I'd check them out for breakfast. I highly recommend it! They run an early morning happy hour with $4 Bloody Marys, screwdrivers, and sunrise mules. The sunrise mule is pineapple vodka, juice, and ginger beer. Quite tasty! The sausage gravy on the biscuits is flavorful and creamy. The scallions are a great touch. I didn't personally care for the crispy red potatoes, primarily due to the fact they were dusted with Parmesan cheese. Texture wise they were fine. My server was attentive. I'm happy to say my experience here was great.

This spot is great for outdoor/patio seating! Great drink prices and delicious pizza!! We started with the cheese curd appetizer which was sooo good! And luckily we came on a night where it was "BOGO" on pizza! I decided to try the honey bacon pizza it was recommended by our server and it was good!!!! The sweet and salty flavors along with the amazing crust made this pizza so good! My spouse had just a pepperoni pizza with onion added which was also really good. The crust for the pizza is so so good, we love thin pizza and this dough was perfect!! We will be back to try more pizza, and other items as well, we really enjoyed sitting on the covered patio!

Came here on a Saturday afternoon with a pretty big group and it was lit. Despite being a group of about 10 people we got seated pretty much right away. Since it was a pretty nice day we got seated outside, which was kinda fun cause there was a DJ playing and the music was pretty good. The main complaint I would have is that the music was maybe a little too loud and made conversing within a larger group pretty difficult. I thought the DJ was just a little out of place as well cause it wasn't like anyone was dancing. I think it would have been better if he was playing more chill music. I ordered the Gin(ger) Tart to drink, which I really liked. I couldn't taste the alcohol at all but by the time I finished it I had a little bit of a buzz going on. The server who helped us was pretty great. She was very attentive and made sure to check in on us regularly. She even gave us all individual checks, which was pretty convenient. Overall, pretty positive experience.

Took the family (including small kids) out here on a Sunday evening and it was great. Felt comfortable with the kids there, food was incredible, server was really friendly without being too overbearing, restaurant volume was nice and quiet. Very nice place, I'll be going back for the 14 oz burger next time.

FRIENDS, Gilroy's is a must for brunch! Gilroy's provided me and my family with our first pandemic brunch and our expectations were exceeded. We had a group of 6 for Mother's Day brunch and planned ahead, so we made a reservation on Yelp/Open Table. To our surprise we were seated outside. We would have preferred sitting inside; however, we were pleased with the outdoor space that offered portable heaters. I thought this was a nice touch for outdoor seating. I looked ahead, and found out that the restaurant would be serving brunch family style. The menu had options for everyone. The bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's could be interchanged. We ordered a few different dishes to start off - pancakes, potatoes, eggs, and biscuits & gravy. Our table ordered seconds of the pancakes and biscuits and gravy. Some of our favorites were the biscuits and gravy and red potato dishes. For a family style buffet, we definitely got out moneys worth with how many times we ordered. Quite honestly, I prefer the family style brunch now. I would say the only downside to the family style serving was the amount of time we waited between orders. It seemed that every time we placed an order for more food, we waited about 15 minutes. Now I totally understand it was a busy day, but something to note. The service was good, it was a busy day, so I imagine we saw our waitress a standard number of times. Every time she visited our table, she was able to fulfill our requests. TIP: Call for reservations! You can request indoor or outdoor seating. If you make a reservation on Yelp/Open Table, you don't get to request indoor or outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has both covered and uncovered options. The covered patio also has portable heaters for those chilly Iowa evenings. I look forward to visiting Gilroy's to explore their main dining menu in the future.

Awwwww no brunch after 1:30, no bueno However the service was nice and informative. I appreciate the accommodation made to my meal as I was anticipating brunch and I'm not really a lunch person. I had the byob and they were able to accommodate with a salmon filet which was perfectly girlled and seared to taste. Sorry I didnt take the picture before I ate it right away. Over all nice atmosphere and food options. *Can we just get brunch till 3...asking for a friend Also thank you Mattie for your efficient service!
