Gimmicks Restaurant

My wife and I stopped here for lunch. We were seated immediately. We both got wraps (one chicken and one turkey) and let me tell you, they arrived to the table warm and were quite delicious. Our waitress, Wren, was smiling and very pleasant and kept my coffee cup filled. A very positive experience for us in an unfamiliar restaurant. And kudos again to Wren.

Overall a good selection on the menu. Chopped steak with onions and mushrooms was awesome and well cooked. Mashed potatoes were real and not powder or flakes. Bread was served similar to Greek bread. Green beans were al dente, but lacking flavor with a from the can taste. Waitress didn't recommend the corn. Oddly she left partially through the service. I recommend to the manager to invest in the local Amish markets for green beans and blanch them using onions for seasoning. I understand salt can be an issue for some. Find corn on the cob and give half an ear as a serving rolling in butter before serving, instead of the field corn with no taste. Enjoy the pics. Overall 8;out of 10, due to veggies. Ohh ice cream was awesome and creamy.

The amazing staff make your visit very enjoyable. The waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful on my visit. The wait was short for the food. The only negative was that the breakfast sausage was overcooked. I really enjoyed the homefries and pancakes. The phil statue was an added bonus to the visit. We will stop again.

Needed to eat. There are not many homemade dinner choices in the town. Found this place with the groundhog out front. Cheese steak with 🍅, lettuce and mayo was good. Fries were not fresh potatoes... but tasted ok. Milkshake was NOT a thick shake with plenty of ice cream. Lasgagna was stale. Salad was ok. The high school yearbook shelve was nostalgic. Employees were friendly, efficient, and motivated. One did not know where/what the Gobblers Knob was. The food menu was quite diverse.

Waited 30 minutes and no service. I got up and got menus myself for people at my table. I asked three different times that we were ready to order so thats another 15 minutes. When waitress with long red hair ( was told her name was Ren) came and threw a hissing fit cause I said it was bad service. And she stomped off and we went to counter she was still rude and I left my name for the manager to call when she came in but still have not heard from her. I have been to gimmicks before and have not had bad service but this waitress needs a new job. That doesn't put her helping patrons.

The food here is great. I believe Gimmicks is the only restruant in punxsutawney that has all day breakfast. Their menu is fantastic with a wide variety. I've tried many different meals here, the chicken and broccoli alfredo has to be my favorite. This place has a nice atmosphere with plenty of seating. The service is good, the waitresses are nice. However it takes a solid 25-45 minutes to get your food. That is why gimmicks is getting 4/5 stars.

Family friendly place. Great home type cooked meals. Salads are huge. Everything we ordered was great. Service was great friendly staff.

Walked in, no greeting, employees were gathered around talking. Ended up asking a customer if we seat ourselves. Didn't feel very welcome. It didn't take long to be greeted and ask about drinks, then asked about ordering. Ended up ordering the Stromboli, came with pepperoni, ham and cheese, we added mushrooms. Came in a reasonable time, but was tasteless, sauce on the side tasted like canned stewed tomatoes, no seasoning. When we left no thank you, employees talking among themselves.

Our server was lovely, and that's where the niceties end. This place is a disaster in every attempt to be a local diner. Takes forever to get your food, and you may be better off if it never arrives. The green beans are canned, the baked potato was tiny, the BLT was empty and the fries were cold and bland- reminiscent of day old leftovers. Curious how this place survives knowing I'd never be a repeat customer. It's a Gimmick alright!

You could tell the place is understaffed - but everything was clean and everyone was super polite. Our server was nice and our food was good. No complaints.

Waited over an hour for breakfast. Very nice servers. Food was good. Didn't get my toast.

Good local brunch spot. My veggie skillet was tasty. Good selection of menu options. Our waitress was really friendly. The prices were reasonable. I think the service could've been a little faster considering that there weren't too many people in there at the time. Overall a good place to check out.

Stopped while in town visiting the groundhog . Took a long time for our food. Several servers but very slow service. Food was just ok.

A hidden gem in Punxy! The food is excellent and we always try to stop on our way through there. It's very casual, almost like it used to be a diner. Always good service.

Excellent service. The food was very good. I had an omelette with a side of sausage. My only complaint is their coffee is really weak and the sausage was rubbery. Overall, a good place that I would visit again.

My daughter and I frequent Gimmicks as I have doctors appointments to attend to and it's always where we go on our way back home. The food is always good. (We love breakfast) and the service is great. We love Wren and Areya. We've had Wren multiple times and she is always such a pleasure. So well mannered and overall just a wonderful waitress. This weekend my daughter and I stopped in and we were informed that a waitress had to leave unexpectedly due to a family emergency and Wren would be with us as soon as possible. Areya set up tables while Wren served almost a full house! She didn't miss a beat and everyone was served in a timely manner. Both girls did an amazing job and we will be back!

We would not go back! We found little ants in our food and when we brought it to the attention of our waitress, the cook and owner came to investigate and all but called us liars! There was no discount or anything. Very disappointing!

My husband and I walked in and we were seated right away. I has breakfast and my husband had country fried streak with stuffing and mashed potatoes. He absolutely loved it! The waitress even though she was cleaning up, she made sure we had everything we had. Very good wait staff. Definitely would try again.

Had breakfast here on Feb. 2. They were busy due to the celebration but seemed to handle it well. We had a late breakfast, which was great. The java could have been stronger, but otherwise highly recomended.

Our waitress, Wren, started out very polite. once the order was placed. it was all downhill from there. It took forever to get our food. After Wren delivered it, we never saw her again. She never checked to see how our food was or ask if there was anything else we needed. After watching her for 20 minutes stand at the counter talking to her work mates, I had to go ask for jelly (that was never offered) and to make her aware one of our meals was missing bacon. (Who does that)? She proceeds to bring said missing food to our table, slamming the bacon so hard that it was falling off the dish knocking over a bottle and slammed the bill on the table. When I went to pay, I purposely went to another employee to pay and when asked how our meal was, I simply said the food was good but the service sucked. Wren overheard what I said and began verbally attacking me accusing me of having a bad day. My bad day started when I had to do her job for he. Since I have several years experience waiting tables, I know the high standard a waitress is expected to have (I.E. drink refills, clearing dirty plates and checking if anything is needed). When I told her of her lack of attention and that I had been watching her for 20 minute, the verbal attacks continued and she ultimately said she would pray for me. Oh and by the way, there was a major ant problem overtaking our table.

2nd review... and I'm sticking with 3 stars. The first time I was here I tried the country fried steak. It definitely wasn't the best I've ever had, but I ate it. This time, I went with the fried cod dinner. Originally I had ordered the baked cod, but our waiter told me it would take 25 minutes to cook, and I was with a relatively large group. So I went with the fried cod. Was this dinner satisfying? Yeah. I'll give it that. Was it the best dinner I've ever had? No. The food itself came out hot, but I thought the taste left something to be desired. The fish was good, but the bottom was a little soggy. The fries were good... they were just your typical run-of-the-mill French fries. The broccoli tasted like it had been in water entirely too long. It was quite soggy. All in all I think as far as my food was concerned, I'd have to give it a 2 star rating. However, I'm adding another star for service. Our waiter was very accommodating... although she was busy. And all our food came out quite quick.

There isn't much around here, but this is the best all-around diner. Usual breakfast and other diner fare. Fridays are best for fish.

After looking at the reviews I was hesitant to stop in. But I was passing through and it was along my way so I figured I'd give it a shot. The restaurant in general was open and clean. The servers greeted me when I walked and promptly served me. The food is typical dinner food with a large selection. I ordered the cheese steak hoagie with fries. Everything came out hot fresh and fast. I thought all the prices were reasonable as well. All in all it was a pleasant experience. I dont know if the people before came on an off night but I would def recommend if you are looking for a nice fast lunch

They have the comfort food you would expect from a diner like meatloaf and chicken with your choice of two sides. The service was quick and efficient. The dining room is open with tables and is quiet.

I'm laying here in my bed at my hotel unable to sleep at 6am still thinking about the absolutely aweful service we had yesterday evening at Gimmicks. We drove 3 hours off of our beaten path to come to Punxsutawney & i researched where my family could eat far in advanced because we all have dietary restrictions. Gimmick's seemed to fit our needs the best. We arrived at 6:30pm for dinner & it seemed pretty busy but it also seemed like all the patrons had food & were finishing up their meals. We seated ourselves, wiped our own table & high chair for our infant- after waiting more than 15 mins a very flustered waitress came to take our orders but we hadn't even been provided with menus or placemats etc so she brought that- she very exhausted my told us it was gonna be a while & honestly it felt like she was trying to deter us from eating there- it was weird- By the time we were able to put our order in there were only 3 tables including our own so it completely cleared out. Our waitress seemed super rushed, occupied in other thoughts & confused by so much of our order- can our child have one cup of regular milk & one cup of chocolate milk? She repeated it like 3 times.. like .. you want both?? If you think ordering 2 cups of milk was confusing THAT was confusing imagine how INSANE it was for her to understand we wanted CHEESE on our veggie burgers... like the concept of putting cheese on this burger was so complex that she brought us our meals COMPLETELY wrong.. said "i don't think they made this right" but still brought it to us & was like "can you just eat it like this" I tried to be understanding, it's busy, she doesn't want to be here, she obviously does not like her job, she thinks we are going to make a mess or aren't regulars so she thinks we will tip bad etc & just sympathizing with all the stuff that she must be feeling to be treating us this way. Well we ate our dry cheese less veggie burgers that were honestly just Boca burgers microwaved & she didn't even give us a discount for our entire order being literally messed up- we PAID for cheese we didn't even get/ for a burger we didn't get, our baby waited over an hour for cheese pizza & for us to be given the wrong thing. The waitress charged us full price for the meal & didn't even like offer us ANYTHING to make it better- every time i asked her for anything she'd stop & chat the locals & forget i asked for napkins or sauce or a refill... like we were basically ignored for an hour & a half, served the wrong meal that was super sub par. As we were trying to leave my husband just went to take our baby outside because after sitting in a car seat all day on our travels here and then sitting in a high chair for an hour & a half waiting for any food she was getting cranky & rightfully so! He couldn't leave because the waitress had locked the door & got really snotty & said "we close at 8, that's why the doors are locked"- at that point i wanted to take my tip back- the ONLY reason we were there (at 7:58 to be exact) was because i waited at my table for 15 mins for you to bring the bill & we waited at our table for an hour & a half at a restaurant that had completely cleared out in the first 20 mins we were there but STILL had to wait over an hour for food... like have the attitude with your cook or your fellow waitress who isn't helping you or your boss who understaffed you but not with my family honey!! We paid over $50 for a completely inedible meal & im still pissed about it a whole day later- like that was our family's meal after a 8 hour car ride...

We went into Gimmicks around 7:15 pm. We got a patty melt and a mushroom burger. The food was really good. It was the kind of food that "hit the spot." The waitresses were very friendly and accommodating.

Nothing special, for sure. Their pizza is sometimes good, but sometimes pretty bad. Their calzones leave quite a bit to be desired. Forget about the Wednesday buffets. The chick wings are dried out, and the chicken fingers are tough. It gets worse. See my more recent review.

Ok my sister and I was in on Saturday around, 11, the server slow, food cold, people come after us got food first. No follow up from the waitress, barely got a refill on coffee. Man with children got his food after a few parties came after him. The two waitress that was there was slow, don't really think they had much waitress experience. I would have thought a manager with be in veiw, since it was close to lunch. I really think if your are a regular your are top priority. When come time pay we had to go get our check up at the register, she never ask how are meal was. I really think maybe retrain or fire. Plus you don't use a bus pan to clear a table of two. My knowledge as being a server myself never ealk to the kitchen empty handed. I would have got a better meal at Sheetz. I probably could go on but what is the use.

Takes forever to receive food and food is cold And little flavor I don't recommend on holidays

Atmosphere was good. However, food was cold when it came. The gravy had sat so long before they brought it out there was a film on top of it. The waitress was less than attentive. I am usually understanding that everyone has a bad day but this place......will not be back.

Overpriced. Cold food. Terrible buffet. I only give 2 stars instead of one because the servers were friendly.

Ate dinner at Gimmick's because a relative said it was a reasonably priced place to get a quick snack. The service was just about the slowest I've ever experienced and the restaurant was not even full. I ordered a steak sandwich and my wife got the chili and rolls. The rolls never came. The steak sandwich was partially burnt. The meal was put on the table with no silverware, no napkins, no condiments, and the iced tea was warm. The lemonade was a glass of sugar water with a lemon wedge in it. As a salesman on the road I eat at restaurants 4 to 5 days a week and this was a place that I will not return to. Cheap, yes but you get what you pay for.

Went to Gimmick's two weeks ago for breakfast, and when the waitress brought our drinks my sweet tea had two fruitflies on the lemon slice on the tea. I showed it to the waitress, and opted to eat somewhere else. This morning, I thought I'd give Gimmick's another try, but the result was another fruitfly in my sweet tea. Obviously, they haven't changed anything about the way they are storing their sliced lemons, even though the fruitfly problem had been brought to their attention. I won't be eating there anymore. If they are that careless about a known sanitary issue, then I have to wonder about the cleanliness of their other food preparation areas.

Your classic small town diner. I loved the atmosphere, the staff is super nice and helpful, and the menu was full of anything you could ever want. I was in for breakfast and had the corn beef hash. Standard and delicious. I wish you were close to me!

I've worked in the food industry for eight years and understand how busy things can get so I am very patient and friendly. This was my family's first time visiting Gimmicks. I will say, this was probably the worst restaurant I've ever been to. I've lived in four different states. The floors and bathrooms are unclean. We ordered a pizza and a New York Steak- the pizza was not bad but my steak was to be pink and it came very dry and well done. I don't like to be a hassle so I didn't say anything, but the whole steak was left on my plate and the waitress never asked if it was ok or if I didn't like it. It was upsetting, but we know not to go back here now. Unclean and the waitress we had should go through hospitality training if she continues to work in the food industry. 1 Star and would not go back.

I have to say that they have the best salads around. They make their own ranch and their steak salads and chicken salads are my favorite. Their service is wonderful but it can get busy on Wednesday and Friday nights. Their coffee is very good as well as their hot chocolate. Their soups are also homemade, I recommend the clam chowder and their chicken noodle soup. They come with three different types of crackers which is nice. Their steaks are also very tasty and my son loves their hot turkey sandwiches.

Ok so I went here with the family for dinner one time. Five families walked in after us and got there meals before we got our drinks. When we did get our drinks, the service was slow to get our appetizers. When my son ordered chicken fingers, they came out with a hot dog. This place is your average run-of-the-mill two star restaurant.

Service was super slow and the staff were all fighting and gossiping about each other in front of customers. It made for a very uncomfortable environment. The food was OK. But the long wait and bad atmosphere ruined any chance of a decent review or of us returning again. If based on food alone then I'd give it a low 4. It was basic diner food and wasn't terrible.

Stopped in to support the new manager Lee. Purchased the broccoli alfredo with a side of oven roasted veggies on top. Amazing ! Seriously one of the best meals I have had in a long time

Loved to stop in for lunch every now and again and never really had anything bad to say about it. The was great food and decent prices but well worth it. Great staff and great setting really bring a nice atmosphere while your eating. Also great for the whole family with something for anyones taste.

Waited 2 hrs for chicken salad, meatloaf sandwich and 2 cod dinners . The food was good but Will. never go back.

very friendly staff, pretty good buffet but some of the food was cold. the salad was good. steam table needs to be turned up under some of the items.

Just as yourself this.l. How do you burn steamed broccoli? Not the best place in town to eat.. If I was hungry and right next to it. I think I would keep driving. To the next place

We had lunch there and had the strawberry spinach grilled chicken salad. It was very good and a nice portion for the price. Recommend highly.
