Twin Cities’ Restaurant and Bar Closures in October 2025 | Eater Twin Cities

"Abruptly closed, this outpost was part of a Twin Cities chain that shuttered all of its restaurants and posted a message on its website that says, “This decision did not come easily. We are incredibly grateful for the loyalty, support, and memories we’ve shared with all of you … Your support has meant the world to us.” Originally opened in 1975, the brand had outposts in Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Edina, and Plymouth at the time of its shutter." - Jeffy Mai

Google
I have mixed feelings about this restaurant re-opening. On one hand Gina's is amazing pizza when made by people that know how and care. On the other hand, they closed because the new owner doesn't know his business at all. I worked here during the ownership transition and got to experience it first hand. He ignored and disowned the original owners during the early period after purchasing that he should have been LEARNING. He refused to even learn how to make his own products, dough, sauce, pizza etc. that's saying a lot. He was also frequently scheduled to help delivery drive on the busiest nights, during Covid, when nobody was working. Out of the 7 drivers needed we could only staff 2 and he was the 3rd. The business was there but absolutely no support from the "owner". He would often not show up for these shifts or come in drunk. I guess it turns out you can't just buy a successful business with delusions of turning around and selling a bunch of franchise's. I hope they can get their act together because Gina's is EP legend. It's sad to see how far its fallen.

I have not ordered from Gina Marie’s in a while and boy was I disappointed. Their garlic cheese bread used to be my favorite and it was terrible tonight. It used to be big pieces of garlic bread and think cheese. This look like a smooshed piece bread burnt with cheese. Pizza was ok so gave 3 stars vs 1 and the person delivering was nice. However probably won’t order again from there for garlic cheese bread. Dominoes has better and that’s saying something.

Google
They are back! Now called "Pizzas Gina", the reopened store seems to be serving the same awesome pizza as before. Looks like the signage and prices are the same. Excited that they are back and still tasting awesome!

Google
The pizza was yummy but we ordered ahead for a Friday lunch. Despite our pizza being ready and paid for, we had to wait in line among the other customers who where there to order and pick up their lunch slice special. Not much of an atmosphere - there is no place to sit and eat.

Google
Always deliscious but tastes the best on our smoker!! Definitely not the same as it was when I first started ordering there over 15 years ago. We ordered the chicken ranch and added bacon, the greek and then sausage pepp with jalapeños. I do feel like the service has changed but still tastes fantastic!

Google
Been eating here for like 25 years, moved out of state a decade ago and always stop in when I am in town. The lunch slices you get 2 and a pop for like 9.00 it’s the same pizza I ate in my 20’s and fire! It’s the only business in the strip mall and yall locals need to step up your support for this gem!

Last Friday 07/18/25 my grandson was visiting. He asked for a Gina Maria’s taco pizza so I ordered one on my credit card. When the guy asked about a tip, I explained that the deliveries under the new owners had been so unreliable that I have stopped tipping until that improves. When the pizza arrived, I was busy, so my grandson answered the door. The delivery driver pressured my grandson to sign for a tip on my credit card. When he appropriately said no, the driver berated him and told him to learn to give tips. Later that day, after my grandson had left, I called and asked for a manager. I complained about the driver and he put me on hold. Another guy with a Mexican accent got on the phone. He was the new owner Ulises and he told me that he was the one that delivered the pizza and berated my grandson. We got into an argument. In my opinion, he has no integrity and is destroying the historic Gina Maria’s 5 star reputation. The last 8 months I’ve been buying about half my pizzas elsewhere. After this experience I will buy all my pizzas elsewhere. I hope that Ulises goes out of business… FYI - Here is my previous review from 11/23/24… I’ve been buying Gina Maria’s pizzas since 1987 (37 years). Throughout the majority of that time, they were family owned and operated and I considered them a 5 star business with 5 star pizza. They finally sold the business and retired. The new owners have failed to maintain the standards previously kept. The last pepperoni & sausage pizza I ordered on 11/09/24 was so spicy hot that it burned our months and we couldn’t finish it (I threw it in the garbage). Last night I ordered a taco pizza, but it was never delivered. I called 3 times. The first two times I was told they were under-staffed, but that the driver just left with my pizza. The third time I called I asked for a manager. A guy with an accent said that he was a manager and I explained that my pizza was already one hour overdue. He said that the driver was out with my pizza. I told him to cancel the order and to refund my money. He said I could keep the pizza for free when it arrived, but it never came. Although he agreed to refund my money, the charge is still on my credit card today. I called the store just now and the manager on duty today said that yesterday’s manager did not refund the money, but that she will. I expressed my disappointment in how Gina Maria’s had declined. She did not disagree. (Note – I never got my money back, but I raised enough heck that my next pizza was free)

Google
Hands down the best pizza in the Metro area. Only slight downside is that it’s not a sit-down restaurant. Small price for the best tasting pizza in the area. Been coming here for 25-years. Phil and his team continue tondo an amazing job!!

Yelp
Great staple in the EP community. Was hungry and was packing to go out of town so I ordered a large pepperoni. Omg did it hit the spot. -5 minutes it was ready. Didn't dirty any dishes. And it made life simple for $20.

Yelp
Best pizza in Minnesota. Hot, fresh, good quality ingredients. Great one slice pizza deal with can of pop and different flavors every day. My fav pizza is the bbq chicken pizza. Holy cow. It has allll the toppings. So amazing. Hawaii. Is close second. Hot tip: sign up for emails and let them know your bday and they will give you a free solo 2 topping pizza. Enjoy!

Bill B.

Yelp
Thought I would give Gina Marias another shot. Ordered a two topping pizza delivered for over $33 for a 14 inch thin crust. Absolute worst pizza I ever had and total waste of 33 bucks. This place should just close down. Also takes over an hour to get a cold overpriced pizza. Dominos way better. Dont order from Gina Marias if you want good pizza.

James L.

Yelp
I travel to the Twin Cities very often and can categorically state that this pizza is the best in the Twin Cities. You will not regret your pick-up order here, as this is not a sit-down restaurant. I have been coming here for over 20-years and have yet to be disappointed by the quality and service I have received! Hats off to Phil and his Team!! Jim L.

Yelp
This location was hit or miss for a while a few years ago. I'm happy to say that lately this Gina Maria's location is consistently excellent! The pizza is phenomenal (we usually get the New York style pepperoni) and the service is first class! Living very close to this location we almost always get carry-out. The pie is always ready and hot at the time given upon ordering. It is an absolute luxury to have this pizza option so close in EP!

B L.

Yelp
Have brought pizzas from Gina's since early 1980's when it was a single shop run by the owner. Ordered 2-3 times/week. Was always great. Everything made from scratch. Owner sold out.. Now expanded into a chain, more inconsistent quality. Have not ordered pizza here since 2018, so review may not be accurate in 2024.

Renee H.

Yelp
We recently moved to the area and chose to order a pizza from Gina Maria's. When I called to order the gentleman on the other end was very kind and polite. We ordered their new Buffalo Chicken pizza and some pizza fries. Both were outstanding. We will be back!!

M K.

Yelp
Family picked up 2 specialty pizzas over the weekend. I am a long standing customer with Gina's for almost 22 years. The charge for 2 pizzas was 49 dollars. The Gina's special was great. The chicken bacon ranch was not. The topping were minimal. I counted 7 pieces of small chicken pieces and no bacon. And it was uncooked(asked for well done). Very disappointed. The price for pizza is very high and you should be on your game for charging high prices and not following through.

John S.

Yelp
Good pizza, bad customer service. The old owners and managers I knew had good customer service tho. Called and got put on hold for 5 minutes without any answer so called again assuming he forgot. He asked to put me on hold for another 5 because he was the only one there. Well 5 turned into around 20 so I called back using *67 so they couldn't see my caller id and he asked me what id like to order. I didn't order cause we had already taken our business elsewhere. Also my dad called before I called the last time and he answered and hung up right away. Not a good worker, if you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen bruh. Big L tonight for Gina Maria's.

Madeline C.

Yelp
I love their taco pizza! The staff is friendly and the pizza is a great quality for the price. A solid option.

Yelp
Wow ordered the Buffalo chicken wings and got Chick wings. Smallest wing I've ever seen. Restaurant should be embarrassed by selling these. Also ordered thin crust pizza that was about as thin as other restaurants pescara crust which is very thick.

Chris C.

Yelp
Once the best pizza in town. Now horrible quality issues and poor customer service have made me scared to even give them another try.
google avatar

Christina W.

Yelp
Always the best pizza! Sausage is outstanding. They may have changed the crust and sauce from awhile ago, so not the same but still fantastic!
google avatar

Yelp
I just transferred to the area for work and asked my coworker where to get an inexpensive lunch. She recommended Gina Maria's Pizza. For $6.50 you get 2 slices of pizza plus a drink, and these slices are no joke. They are pretty big and I had to split it between two days to finish the pizza slices. The pizza itself was pretty yummy and I enjoyed it a lot. This place though is not a place to come sit down. It's a come in and take out place.
google avatar

Phil R.

Yelp
They claim NY Style pizza. Obviously they never tasted NY style pizza. My pizza was gummy and sauce way too much garlic. Crust way too thick. Apparently MN people don't know NY style pizza. Appears they have a good following for this. Go to Little Ceasers.
google avatar

Katlyn P.

Yelp
Great lunch specials during the week! You get two big slices and a can of soda or sparkling water. Not sure if it's at all locations, but the EP location does it. They also have a pretty good selection throughout the lunch hours. It is definitely a to-go type situation.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
Love Gina's they have the best flavored sauve and you never need to ask for extra. Just like cheese there is so much you don't need extra, I'm from WI and love extra cheese. We always enjoy our pizzas here and thr people are friendly. Check it out
google avatar

Yelp
They were super nice over the phone and willing to take my card over the phone so I didn't have to use my physical card! The pizza was ready relatively fast and picking it up was quick and easy and clean. The pizza was good and the wings were great!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious pizza. Can't say enough good things about it. Definitely one of the favorites I've found living in MN.

Yelp
Our team had an off site at a Co-worker's house in Eden Prairie. It came to lunch time and she suggested Gina Maria's. After about 45 minutes, our 3 pizzas arrived. They all looked Amazing! Lots of toppings, thick crusts, different sauces. We got a supreme, a chicken ranch, and a sausage and pepperoni. I had the chicken ranch. The crust was thinner because they could only do it one way. The sauce is ranch dressing instead of pizza sauce and the chicken was plentiful. It had crushed up bacon on it as well. It was super rich with the dressing, but is was real good. I think I need an angioplasty after eating it though. The cheese was covering the pie as well. Good stuff. I also tried the deep dish supreme. The crust was awesome, crispy and doughy at the same time. Tons of toppings in every bite. Lots of cheese and a nice tomato sauce base. Overall, a little expensive, but you get quality when you pay for it! A great gathering with Coworkers with fantastic pizza! Awesome!

Yelp
There was nothing wrong with the pizza. I thought it was great. I like the sauce and the thin crust. The veggie pizza is also very good. They have a large delivery area and late night delivery.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want an Excellent pizza in Eden Prairie I can't say enough good things about Gina Maria's. Very fresh ingredients and sauce is spectacular. Even if you pick up it stays nice and hot in their boxes til you get home. If I could eat only one kind of pizza for the rest of my life it would be Gina Maria's and I've been ordering there for more than 25 years. Eccellente, deliziosa Pizza che io amo!

Stu S.

Yelp
Great Pizza.. My complete family loves it. Even the ones that come in from out of town want me to order it for them
google avatar

Yelp
I have had pizza from Gina Maria's for a long time. Moved to a new place 3 miles away. Ordered online, then called to make sure order was received. The young man assisted in making sure my order was taken and gave me my total. All good to go. After another 1/2 hour , he called back to tell me "we can't deliver to you". One hour and 1/2.... we now have no dinner, I think you should have known that you could not deliver as soon as you got my address. Very disappointed in the service and the lack of information...
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
My first time here and I will definitely be back. The pizza taste amazing and customer service is fantastic.
google avatar

Yelp
I've ordered from Gina Maria's several times for staff appreciation days at my work. They are courteous, punctual, and most of all, the pizza is fabulous! Our staff love the cheeseburger pizza (the only addition I would make is topping it off with some fresh pickles! - going to ask about that next time). The pizza is delicious, and the staff is friendly and helpful. GM!

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood of a buddy's place and thought I'd see if he wanted to do lunch. We settled on pizza and he said he liked Gina Maria's. It was a great choice. Gina Maria's is only a store front with no seats, so you'll have to take your pizza to go. We got a cheese pizza for the kids and a pepperoni and sausage for the "grown ups." They had great tasting sauce because it was actually seasoned. It wasn't your out-of-the-can Hunts sauce with no flavor. The Italian sausage was the size of small meatballs and spicy. I *love* spicy Italian sausage. The kids inhaled their cheese pizza. I'll likely never go back because my friend will be moving in a few months, but if I'm ever in the mood for pizza and find myself in Eden Prairie, I'd go back. They have three locations: Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, and Chanhassen.
google avatar

Thulasi T.

Yelp
I love both Neapolitan pizza and deep dish pizza. so yeah, you can say i love pizza. We have ordered a large deep dish pizza with peppers and onions on it. I didn't like any thing about the pizza. crust was not good. sauce was not good. they even charge for peppers and Parmesan cheese. this is never heard of.
google avatar

Gino G.

Yelp
Best pizza in the cities. Still owned by the same management team from the early 80's! That says something.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
Forget about this place for deliverly...its all about there lunch combo a "huge"(quarter pie) slice of pepperoni or sausage pizza and a can of pop for 4 bucks! Thats right folks 4 bucks! screw it...Im off the beach...Im tradin...(old etrade jingle)
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Based on the previous reviews here at Yelp, I ordered a medium taco pizza for delivery to my hotel. Working late - no time to go out. Anyway, the pie showed up hot, on-time, very well packaged, and it was outstanding. It certainly exceeded my expectations and it was way too big for just me. My only reason for not giving 5 stars was the lack of napkins, red pepper flakes, etc. Maybe I should have asked or confirmed my expectation, but considering I was having it delivered to a hotel room they could have anticipated the need. I will certainly order from them again.
google avatar

Mr. Y.

Yelp
After reading the reviews, we had a cheese burger pizza and a pepperoni pizza, both new york style. Wow, I couldn't believe how bad they were! Just cannot understand the reviews. The dough was heavy "bready" similar to old hotdog bun, no where close to New York style. As for the toppings, the sauce was bland and salty. Cheese burger pizza's meat was just greasy and flavorless and the pizza had big chunks of almost raw onions over powering the entire flavor. Overall just bad pizza for the price.
google avatar

Jenny W.

Yelp
Hands down the best pizza! So cheesy and the sauce is fantastic! Love the thinner style and the square bites. I'm a big fan of ordering it on my way home for pick up.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of pizza and seek out new restaurants on a weekly basis. I had not heard of Gina Maria's (7416 Mitchell Rd, Eden Prairie) until reading a review here on Yelp and decided to give it a whirl. I can happily say that I'm a fan of Gina Maria's. Is it as good as Lola? No, I don't know if anyone is as good as Lola, but this is right up there. I'd take this over Punch any day of the week. We called in for delivery and were greeted with a polite young man that took our order, took our information and made absolutely certain that we had ordered the right items before hanging up. Good service for sure. They told us 40 minutes and it actually arrived in about 30. Friendly delivery guy as well. We were hungry and ordered two larges: one chicken ranch and a Southwest Pepperoni, both on thin crusts. Excellent flavor and quality. The pepperoni wasn't terribly greasy and had nice flavor. Loads of hot, gooey mozzarella and jack cheese (nice to see more than one type of cheese on a pizza). I think Krystyn loved the chicken ranch because she's still talking about it a few days later. I'm happy that we found out about this place because they seem to offer up a good product and have pleasant employees. I can see why people are impressed with Gina Maria's. Safe to say that we'll be ordering from here again. The prices are a tad steep (the large chicken ranch was $20) but well worth it. Maybe next time we'll try ordering online now that I know this is an option. Thanks, Gina Maria's... we'll be back!

Christopher G.

Yelp
The Gina Maria pizza lunch special cannot be beat. For 5 bucks (inflation hits pizza joints too, I guess: see Ryan D.s review) you get a huge slice of pizza (they will cut it into two slices if you ask) and a can of pop. There is also a rotating calendar of specialty slices that cost 50 cents more. The crust is quality and the sauce is very sweet and seasoned just right. Everything Gina Maria's can be summed up into one word: yummy. This is one of my favorite lunch destinations...even if you can only get it to "go", there is no seating.

Kiernian G.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of pizza. 20+ years in IT means I've eaten a LOT of it while on-call or left-handeding it with a slice or three. I don't normally like "novelty" pizzas. Gina's shocked me by making an absolutely incredible BBQ chicken pizza (get it well done, it crisps up better after i tried multiple pies) Their staff comes in at something like 8am (one gal said they make the dough by hand every day) and I HAVE phoned in delivery orders that early, just to get ahead of the rush. Still didn't get anything until about 11am, but their pizza is always good and they're THAT BUSY. They're old school in the best possible way. If you can phone in your order, do so. If you use the website and intend to pay with a credit card, prepare for a callback.
google avatar

Taylor D.

Yelp
First time having pizza here from a work event. The pizza was okay if you like the sour side. However, sauce and pizza tasted fresh (like made from scratch). I would give it one more try before I say more.
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
Visiting my parents tonight and we ordered from Gina Maria's. We were told the pizza would be delivered within 45 minutes...75 minutes later it finally showed up. It's was very cold and the cheese was very "firm". My parents order this pizza often and said it's very good when it arrives hot. As a first timer, I would not recommend this establishment to anyone who likes hot pizza. Clearly customer service is not a top priority for this company. To make matters worse, the majority of the pizza eaters are children. My father says that it's tiresome that the solution is always a "free pizza". We don't want a Free pizza, we want a good pizza.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Love this place. No atmosphere, no seating, just amazing pizza! Love the lunch combo. Worth a try if you like pizza.
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
You do get a lot for your money. It's a very thick slice with gobs of sauce and cheese. That however does not make the pizza any good. I did not like it at all. (I do have to say that I grew up in NYC and a bit of a pizza snob) but there are several pizza joints in Twin Cities that make decent pizza. This is not one of them.
google avatar

Lindsay W.

Yelp
Tried this pizza for the first time last night... AWESOME! Ordered a Taco Pizza and Hawaiian. Delivery service was good and timely. The pizzas were delicious. The sauce is tasty and the New York style crust is great! I didn't care so much for the thin crust. It wasn't terrible, but I've had better. Definitely recommend trying the pizza here!
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
Amazing pizza, order the pepperoni with extra cheese and you will be amazed! They even sell by the slice for lunchtime... Absolutely love this place been going here for over 10 years.
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
We've ordered pizza to be delivered to our office twice and it was amazing! The food is so good. My favorite is the southwest pepperoni. Love the taco sauce that comes on the side. We also had some wings, which were great too. The service is friendly and the drivers show up on time. Definitely try this place if you are looking for a new pizza joint.

Brandt S.

Yelp
Favorite pizza. I have eaten almost exclusively Gina Maria's for 10+ years. Get your pizza with extra sauce, well done. Hoagies are awesome as well!

Charles C.

Yelp
First time ordering from here and I have to say the pizza was great! It has been one of the I have had in the twin cities but I'm not a huge fan of the chicken wings.
google avatar

Mollee F.

Yelp
Used to live way too close to Gina Maria's and indulged as often as possible. There are plenty of pizza places in the area, but Gina Maria's quality ingredients really stand out. The cheese - oh the cheese - just fantastic. Love the sausage and crust, too. These people know how to make a pizza. And the $5 lunch special is just perfect. I'll admit that I can only do two pieces at a time before heartburn sets in, but it's just so good, I'll often take the pain just for another bite.
google avatar

E.J. E.

Yelp
4 Stars for their pizza. But to charge their customers $11.50 for a 12 pack of soda is highway robbery.
google avatar

Jen B.

Yelp
Great pizza, wonderful service, quick delivery! We've tried other pizza places in Eden Prairie but always go back to Gina's!
