The Best Cheap Eats in Jacksonville, Florida | Eater Miami

"Gina’s Delicatessen has been a popular breakfast and lunch spot in the lively Murray Hill neighborhood for almost 30 years. No matter what’s ordered, most items on the menu are under $10. Consider Gina’s Big Breakfast for breakfast, which will keep even the hungriest patrons full with three eggs cooked to order, crispy home fries, Southern-style grits, toast, and a choice of bacon or sausage. Lunch at the deli has the typical sandwiches and lunch plates, but the Middle Eastern Plate is a favorite with stuffed grape leaves, tabouleh, hummus, and pita."

While I may have caught them an hour before closing, the cooks and staff truly just made my entire day with this lunch. The onion rings are perfect, I literally gasped when I saw how big and juicy the burger was. First bite I’m in heaven and had to pull out my phone to review and let y’all know that Gina’s is the place to go for lunch when ya just don’t know what you want! It probably only took 5-8 min and I got mine to-go! I love the diner style feel to the inside though and definitely wouldn’t mind sitting in and enjoying the company! Thank you guys again! Definitely a lovely first experience 🫶🏼

My experience here on Saturday 5/17 was great. The customer service was great, the food was hot and full of flavor. The atmosphere reminded me of a small cafe my grandmother used to take us to back home in St. Paul, MN. Just cozy. Delightful. Reasonable prices too! I had the steak, egg and cheese pita and my son had a cheeseburger.

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of eating at Gina's for the first time. Every part of our experience was top-notch. The food was delicious, the service was spot-on, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Thank you for caring about your customers.

Google
Everything cooked to order. I did add my own peppers tomatoes and onions. But it was really good and they give you a lot! 2 eggs, grits cheese and meat for 5.99$ breakfast bowl.

Google
Super cute sandwich shop, has excellent bagels, and pita bread. Lots of gator decor, very clean restaurant, good amount of seating and tables. A good menu to choose from. Definitely will come back to try another item on the menu.

I stumbled across this gem on my way to edgewood, and I saw the Middle Eastern plate on the window. I had to try it, especially when I saw all the police cars there. I'm so glad I did. It's a whole in the wall spot run by a family almost like a mom and pop restaurant. The son gave me some history and knowledge behind their culture and was a gentleman (I love that). His mother was everything. Very sweet and wise woman with a grace of elegance. The Middle Eastern plate was amazing. I took it to work for lunch, and it was a perfect balance of vinegary salt and light sweet of the grape leaves. The hummus was good, and the plate gave me energy. I wasn't sluggish. Now that punch is a must have lol as well. Everything was good. For the pork lovers, this is defia good breakfast and lunch spot. I'll be back for an update on breakfast.

Google
Gina’s is a lovely family-run diner that makes hearty breakfasts. For lunch they serve burgers, pitas, cold subs and hot sandwiches. There is a mix of Mediterranean items too: grape leaves, tabouli, hummus, and mouth-watering baklava. Service is always quick and friendly. The deli is intimate inside, good for a quiet breakfast date or quick lunch meeting.

Nice little ethnic convenience / sandwich shop. Very fast and friendly service. The food is always consistently very good. Would recommend and we'll be going back...

Yelp
Visited Gina's Deli a couple of weeks ago with my coworkers. Everything we had was delicious! They use quality ingredients and everything was homemade. We were able to stop in for a quick lunch, the service was excellent. Would recommend a visit!

Yelp
BEST CAMEL RIDER IN TOWN!!!!!! Family owned deli (25+ years). Kind staff, great food, low prices. If you don't order the camel rider, I recommend the 3 way salad. Great variety of salads to choose from.

Yelp
So those Close to me know I enjoy a Sammich and I certainly have some favorite places to go...Some more than others (don't judge me), but one plays that I've been a fan of for years is Gina's in Murray Hill! I found them years ago when they were located in 5 Points where corner Taco is currently, so I'm happy to have them still close by. I always appreciate having a place on every side of town for the foods and drinks that I really enjoy, so no matter what side of town I happen to be on when my hunger pains show up, I know I don't have to drive a long way to get what I'm in the mood for! Gina's Delicatessen serves breakfast from 6am to 11am M-F, but serve breakfast all day Saturday from 7:30am to 2pm and Breakfast is my Jam! Give me eggs any style, home fries, Grits buttery or cheesy and take your pick on a meat and I'm a happy man! But like I said, I'm a big fan of Sammiches, and they certainly deliver, from your standard cold cuts like the Club I had today, to their steak in the sacks, burgers, chicken sammiches, subs and they even bring the Middle Eastern influences along with many menu options, so you can come back again and again to try something different from their menu. Be sure to stop in and bring the family or some friends to support this local family owned and operated small business that is sure to become one of your favorite places, too. Of course, let them know #BigRichSentMe

Yelp
Excellent as always. This is the go to lunch spot for me. Food prepared fresh while you wait. Courteous, friendly staff. A place where regulars go. Great sandwiches & good value!

Ryan H.

Yelp
This is a wonderful spot for lunch! It's very reasonably priced and the food is delicious. I recently discovered this place and I've come back multiple times. The staff is very nice and its a friendly restaurant where all the locals eat.

Yelp
My Fiancé and I stopped through here for lunch today. If you have a larger sized automobile, the parking can be a little tight, especially on the side. I have an Impala and the tail end poked out in the street a little due to the small red poles in the parking spot I was in that didn't allow me to pull up further so I moved to the front of the building. After that, we were in. The service was outstanding. The staff was nice and swift. The food was made-to-order and yet, our meal was up and out in less than 10 minutes. They even brought it to where we were sitting so they provide table service. The food itself hit the spot. I had a submarine sandwich and my Fiancé tried their chicken salad while we both had fries. We enjoyed it all and ate every bit. The prices were extremely reasonable too. Under $10 for each of our choices. They serve breakfast as well but that ends at 11am during the week so we were a tad too late to sample the early bird entrees. Whether breakfast or lunch though, Gina's Deli seems worthy of your business. They were definitely worth ours.

Yelp
I decided to try this place out today and I'm really glad I did. I got a steak and mushrooms in a sack (pita bread) with some Tabouli + fries and a huge sweet tea. It was fantastic, exactly what I needed. The service was great too. Everyone was extremely kind. It's also very clean and quiet which I really like.

Yelp
I frequent Gina's a lot because #1. I can literally walk there....but I don't. :) #2. The food is diverse enough that I can eat here every day. And #3. The food is consistently fresh and really delicious. I stand corrected, Gina's is actually named after the owner's oldest daughter (who does NOT work there), but instead I usually see the youngest daughter and the owner's only son helping out every single day. This is a true family-owned and operated restaurant that does breakfast and lunch until 4pm on weekdays and they are also open on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays. I regularly purchase the containers of the homemade coleslaw, hummus, chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, tabouleh, and potato salad they have available in their mini fridge near the cash register. They are all fantastic and super yummy! On occasion, I will get the stuffed grape leaves, homemade banana pudding, another tasty dessert like a slice of cake, or if I'm in the mood, a half bag of fresh pita bread. Perfect to snack on at home. I recommend any of the subs, sacks, burgers and salads. I really enjoy the grilled chicken salad and the Crinkle Fries, too. I usually do take out, but there are two rooms large enough to fit the breakfast and lunch crowds. Gina's Deli has been around for over 20 years now and I have been coming regularly to this location since 2013. It's definitely one of my favorites in Murray Hill and I do love the food, the prices & the awesome, friendly service!

Amber A.

Yelp
It's a Murray Hill "go-to" spot with good food. I don't want to say too much because the Murray Hill regulars don't want everyone flooding here but I can say it reminds me of one of those places on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. This place is in between and diner and dive. I can't say it's the cleanest and the menu isn't inspired; nor does it have a signature dish. However, if you're looking for some consistently good, staple, diner food... this place is great. The staff are kind, the environment friendly, and the neighborhood is eclectic. Prices and portions are fair. There is also a wide range of selections for whatever you feel like eating at the times they are open.

Yelp
You can't judge a book by it's cover! This quaint, family owned and operated since 1995 deli, may look small on the outside, but is super cozy and spacious in the inside. Tables and seats for those who want to eat there, a myriad of College sports team logos, pictures and even a TV to keep the young ones (or solo lunch time patrons) busy and entertained! This place does it all: breakfast, traditional subs, hoagies and sandwiches, including stuffed pita sandwiches, burgers, fries, and more! I recently went today for lunch to grab some food to go. If you are like me, I'm very particular about my chicken salad, tuna salad and egg salad's. I politely asked if I may try the chicken salad and tuna salad and without even batting an eyelash they were able to provide me with a small sample to taste. Both were amazing but I ended up going with the tuna salad! Everyone who works here is extremely kind, welcoming and absolutely passionate about what they do. They put the family in family owned and operated! And believe you me, when you leave here you'll feel like you're part of their family. I highly recommend you check this spot out for breakfast, lunch or a quick snack! You will not be disappointed. SYOY! Camilo

Yelp
I dine here once in a blue moon with my girlfriend, Trish. She lives less than a mile away. We have enjoyed every meal here. The atmosphere is very nice and relaxed. The girl who runs the place is always friendly and nice. You can tell that some of the Customers must be regulars and are like fixtures in the place. I might bring my husband here today. I know for a fact he would like this diner. The prices for what you get is very good. Kudos going out to the Owner!

Yelp
When restaurants don't follow simple masking guidelines it makes me wonder how well they follow other health codes and regulations. Yesterday (2/6/2021) after running a bunch of errands I stopped at Gina's Deli on Edgewood to grab to go lunch. One employee had no mask in sight. The cook was wearing a bandana over her face and they weren't requiring customers mask up when ordering or waiting on to go orders. While waiting for my order I kept having to move around while other waiting customers kept trying to stand/sit right next to me. I am all for supporting local but it is also up to us to only support those businesses that are following CDC guidelines to try and reduce the spread and deaths from Covid 19. I will not be returning.

Yelp
Always good food and friendly service at Gina's. Huge breakfasts, skip the sausage patties and go for the great bacon or crispy edged corned beef hash. The Camel Rider and a side of freshly made Tabouleh is one of my favorites. The Chicken salad and hummus are both great also!
google avatar

Karl K.

Yelp
How can Jacksonville have two awesome diners just a few blocks away from each other? Each one is perfect in its own way. Gina's is southern style at its best. Homemade nanner pudden! Did I spell that right? I'm not southern unless y'all consider San Diego the South?
google avatar

Meisha S.

Yelp
My husband has been grabbing these faves from his favorite place I said Gina's was better and I brought him some too try and he agreed. Stuffed full and tasty! I also got clearer pics of the menu. Super reasonable prices also.

Yelp
This is a perfect, quick lunch spot - really close to my office. I've had a gigantic camel rider and chicken tenders, so far, but I'm sure to make this place a staple. It's definitely a locals spot, with colorful characters holding court at their favorite tables. Family run and super simple! Just the way it should be. The Camel Rider is a really big, really messy, really yummy pita pocket full of meats, cheese, lettuce, tomato and even banana peppers! Big fan! I made a big ole mess at my desk but it was so worth it. Chicken tenders are standard and good - one day they had crinkle fries and they were awesome. I think the fries change shape but are always good. Very reasonable lunch prices but I'm excited to get to work early enough to stop by for breakfast one day!

Yelp
I've driven by Gina's for years and never stopped in. Finally took the plunge and dropped by the other day to pick up a takeout order. What a great lunch spot! The sandwiches were fresh and delicious, and the service was warm and friendly. Great value, too. I'm looking forward to my next visit, and eager to try their breakfast.

Sasha M.

Yelp
I've passed by this building every week, and I finally decided to try Gina's Deli out! I ordered the Middle Eastern lunch plate. It included fresh hummus, pita, tabouli salad, and stuffed grape leaves. I also ordered a piece of baklava on the side. My favorites were the fresh hummus and baklava! I'm sad I didn't find out about this place earlier.

Yelp
This place practically screams "mom n pop," but for me, that's always a good thing. I had a hunkerin' for a good home cooked breakfast...more specifically a corned beef hash breakfast, and as I was driving through the neighborhood, Gina's caught my eye, and the rest is history. Scenery: I can best describe the atmosphere as....as....never mind. Florida gator fans who own a diner? I dunno. There are no words, really. Not that it's bad, it's just unique to all other diners I've seen, so the precise words elude me. Guess you gotta see for yourself....so GO! Eats: Corned beef hash, two eggs over easy, home fries, and toast is where it's at. It's almost as if the nice tattooed guy who ran the kitchen knew that I liked my hash with that yummy outer crust. Perfectly cooked and even better when mixed in with the runny eggs. Home fries? Seasoned nicely and not undercooked, which is always a relief. Bite for bite, a highly satisfying breakfast experience. With reasonable prices, and an extensive menu for both lunch and dinner, I would very much recommend Gina's to all my fellow Yeeps. I'm looking forward to trying out one of their "rider (or is it ryder?)" sandwiches, or even that "steak in a sack" thing, which I've seen at a few other places as well, but never had the guts to try. One of these days I'll suck it up and give it a whirl. All in all, I say to you that Gina's is definitely worth a shot. Go out and support your local eats, and keep on Yelping!!!

Yelp
I really like this diner..Prices are inexpensive for my Burger Combo (Fries and Coke for $4.99) and the inside they had Hummus and tabouli riders. It appears to be very clean and the service is very friendly. I will be going back again and I recommend if you have not been and want quality food at a decent price, you should go too! One downside: A lot of Styrofoam and Plastic.....Use paper or Recycle
google avatar

Charles J.

Yelp
First time visiting this local gem.. first thing I noticed was the friendly faces behind the counter. As I looked over the extensive menu I happened to see "family owned and operated ' honestly I wish more businesses were run that way. We ordered a couple of bacon, egg and cheese pitas and a side of home fries. The pitas were delicious with a decent amount of thick cut bacon. Will definitely be back again to try more items on the menu and to support a fellow local business owner.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! My wife and I frequent Gina's at least 2-3 times a month. She loves their bacon cheese burger and I always get the Gator Special (2 pancakes, bacon (one choice of four options) and 2 eggs). The pancakes are always big, fluffy, and delicious. Definitely not a box mix, although if it is, they alter it someway that improves it. The atmosphere is simple enough and there is a group of "regulars" on a daily basis. The crowd is always pleasant and I have never heard any inappropriate conversation. The price is always great and their menu has choices for days. You could go once a week and have something new each time, but my wife and I always agree on the chicken salad. The location is easy to get to, however you can drive right past the diner before seeing it. So pay attention when you get in the area. Parking is plentiful, but angled from the roadway.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
Gina's Deli is a wonderful local spot. Nothing fancy, owned and operated by a nice family, large portions for a reasonable price. It is our go to on Saturday. Love the pancakes, fresh breakfast potatoes, and chicken salad. If you are looking for something simple, I would highly recommend.

Yelp
I've been driving past the Gina's on Edgewood all the time since I moved back to Jax in 2011. It is seriously within walking distance from my house and yesterday was the first time that I actually walked in. Although, I have visited the locale in Five Points a few times. I've had a craze for tabbouleh as of late and I know that along with being a deli, Gina's has very good Mediterranean and Arabic style food. Tabbouleh is what brought me in as I had planned to get some to go and have for lunch, but then I noticed the breakfast menu and I had to order a sandwich. I settled for a bacon and egg with no cheese on a bagel. The sandwich was made rather quick and it was huge. I didn't expect to have that much bacon and egg on my sandwich for what I paid. It was so close to how my Dad makes breakfast sandwiches that I almost wept. It's been a long while since I had breakfast cooked by him (as he still lives back home in Connecticut). In any case, what I mean by "how my Dad cooks it" is frying the egg a bit and then adding the bacon to the middle of the egg. It makes for a bit of grease, but man, was that a perfect sandwich. I saved the tabbouleh for my lunch. I didn't get any pita chips or what not to go with it, but it was just fine without. I actually wanted to head over to go grab some earlier and realized that Gina's had already closed. This location is only open from 9 am until 2 pm. Alas, I will have to get some tomorrow. The interior is nothing to write home about. The family are obviously fans of the Gators with all sorts of UF stuff adorning the walls. Simple tables, simple chairs, but good food and decent prices. Needless to say, Gina's will be seeing me a bit more now.

Yelp
First of all there IS a "Gina", and she's a really nice lady. She runs this shop with her son and daughter (I believe). They have been here for many years and had a shop in Riverside prior - so a super long time in the business. We tried this place a few years ago and I don't remember being super impressed (I believe I had the hamburger special). I think we came just before they were trying to close up so that may have been the issue, to be fair. Today my girlfriend brought home lunch for us today and it was just fantastic! Lots of little goodies, cake, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, etc. She also got a 12" sub - WOW! Super FRESH bread, lots of meat and cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc.. a little mayo and this wonderful "Italian dressing" drizzled on the top. Even pepperoncini peppers! So fresh and all of the little details were perfect. I think when it comes to simple "lunch" food like this, it all comes down to the tiny details! We both split the 12" sub and it was more than enough for two. We look forward to trying more yummy lunch items in the very near future! :)

Yelp
I was brought food from here from a co-worker one time. It was breakfast food take out (why anyone thinks that will every be a good idea is beyond me). Everything was cold and rubbery and I know that is just how toast, eggs, etc. hold up (or rather, don't) when not eaten right away. Maybe the other food here is good. Maybe I'll try it again some day since it's quite close to me.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
This place is great! Local favorite and you can tell when you walk in. Family owned and operated and everything is made with love. I've yet to have an order that was anything less than spectacular. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has been so great for so many years. A true gem and they have the best breakfast pitas ever!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been eating here for over a decade, since they were originally in 5 Points. Family run by some seriously awesome ladies! Food is always good and they have so many choices! A definite staple in Murray Hill.

Yelp
I love this place the food is delicious and it is always clean. The customer service is off the chain, they always make you feel at home when you come here. The price is good I will always love the family anx the food
google avatar

Yelp
I know the other deli is closed. Then cruising down Edgewood ave. I saw another one. I just felt like I had to go in and see how they doing. A friend (Chis Dickerson of Corner Taco) is moving into their old spot in 5 points. This place was old but clean. The sandwich I ordered would make (dale) a Yelp friend proud. "The camel rider" The sandwich was a good as I excepted it to be. There was plenty of meat and some good fresh lettuce. They even topped it all off with some oil an vinegar and pepperoncini peppers. It was quite yummy and I really don't see why they would close the other spot. Cause I will be back to this place again.

Yelp
This place is everything I want in a small family ran Jax Diner. Friendly service, great prices and above all consistently delicious food. Breakfast or lunch you cant go wrong. Be sure to try something in a pita such as an egg sandwich or steak in a sack. I have to resist the urge to stop in every day.
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to try this hole-in-the-wall for brunch because we didn't want to wait for a table at Crazy Egg a few blocks down. Signs on the building advertised $3.99 for 2 eggs, choice of bacon or sausage, toast, & grits so that drew us in. I ended up upgrading to the Gina's Big Breakfast with 3 eggs, home fries, grits, and toast with a choice of bacon or sausage patty for $5.99. What a deal! My husband ordered the Turkey & Bacon Rider with cheese (i.e, comes in a pita pocket) and a side of fries (thicker than a pencil but not steak fries). Our food was pretty basic, served up fast. I had to dab my plate with a napkin to soak up the butter but others might decide that this is what makes your breakfast taste good! The big guy at the counter (with the tattooed knuckles) was really friendly and customer-oriented. I asked if they would ever serve catfish and grits and he asked the woman who was cooking if she'd be willing to get some in her next grocery trip. I appreciated their willingness to accommodate me but decided I would come back again to get their Whiting fish (from their fish sandwich) with grits instead. They seemed to have lots of regulars as this guy knew what people wanted to order as soon as they walked in the door. Since it was our first time, he gave us 2 stamps on our new value cards (buy 9 sandwiches/entrees, get one free). It was a clean place with lots of tables and a TV that was playing cartoons and lots of UF Gators decorations. We would definitely return for more friendly service and straightforward food, nothing fancy but served up fast and hot. Breakfast is served all day but they are open Monday through Saturday til 3:30pm (M-F) and 2:30pm (Sat). Plenty of street parking out front.

Yelp
This is great place. This place is reminiscent to the mom and pop lunch places you'd see in New York. Food is great. Comes fast and the family who runs it are nice and friendly. Friendly as in they treat you like a friend. I'm picky when it comes to finding food here in Jax because either the amount of food/price ratio or it's just not my vibe. This place meets everything I like in a food spot. I highly recommend. If you're bougie. This place might not be for you.
google avatar

Marty C.

Yelp
Love going to Gina's for breakfast because they give you a lot of food and the price is very reasonable. They do stop serving breakfast at 11 am.

Amber W.

Yelp
A very friendly, warm family owned dinner. Prices are good. Portions are generous. From hamburgers to Taboulli. Breakfast all day on Saturday. A plus for Murray Hill. I love this place.

Firas K.

Yelp
Very cute place in the Maryhill area the food was delicious service was very friendly my favorite breakfast/brunch and the Riverside
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
I am new to this area and relying greatly on previous reviews. Being that Gina's had great reviews, I decided to give it a shot. Well I was in for a real treat! The place is very clean and very cozy. Perfect for a quiet lunch. The food was fast and my order was correct. The girl behind the counter as well as Gina were both very friendly and accommodating. When I got back to work and sat down to eat, I was very impressed. The food was absolutely amazing! And I am pretty hard to impress because I moved from an area with great food. I will definitely be returning.

Yelp
I don't think this is the restaurant it is not even close to average their omelette are not worth the money I have to say that it's the wrong restaurant

Yelp
Good food, fair prices, and friendly staff. We meet there the 1st Saturday of each month and they go out of their way to accommodate our small group. Thanks Gina.

Harvey H.

Yelp
Great place. I had breakfast there. People are friendly and the food was perfect

Ge K.

Yelp
I been coming to Gina's for 10 Years now and they had always taken care of me and my family. Best place to just sit down and have a cup of coffee and relax or chit chat with folks here. They are all friendly and you won't be disappointed with the other customers also. They may not know my name but they know my face and I am happy with that and also my menu even though I change it up here and there. Try it at least once before judging the place by the book!

Tisha D.

Yelp
This is an awesome deli! The staff is very nice and polite. The food was delicious. I tried the grilled chicken salad on my initial visit. It was huge, fresh, and very tasty.

Peej R.

Yelp
Best kept secret in Murray Hill. Breakfasts are awesome. Huge omelets and the pancakes are to die for!
google avatar

Dan C.

Yelp
Decent sand which for cheap. I wouldn't go out of the way for it but if you are in the Murray hill area it is worth stopping in. I had turkey and cheese that was good enough for what I paid.

Christy D.

Yelp
Okay, so if you haven't been to ginas deli, then you haven't experienced the most amazing blt of your life! ALL the food is great, but I have trouble steering away from the blt...its loaded. Everything made to order, but still quick service. Support this local family owned and operated business. Great family, great food!

Larry P.

Yelp
I have tried this place twice. Both times the person opening was late. If your business is suppose to open at 6:00am it should be ready to operate at 6:00am Not 6:40 am so if you are late and I wait on you then I'm late for my job. So I guess I won't be coming back to your business. Bacon was overcooked or was left from my the day before and heated the lettuce was brown. Comes are all syrup. I rate this at two stars but that's really generous.
