"Like a reverse Frosty the Snowman, Gina’s Italian Ice comes to life when the weather is hot and melts away when it cools down. This year, the seasonal store in suburban Berwyn is offering flavors like red raspberry, horchata, and banana." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff

Google
Gina's Italian Ice should be a landmark! I have been going there to get my Italian ice fix for over 25 years! I'm so lucky to be able to share this amazing place with my kids. The Italian ice is so good but don't sleep on their ice cream! So good! What makes this place even more amazing is Gina and her son Patrick. You are always greeted with a smile from them and they treat all of their customers like family. They hire a great group of kids for the summer as well and they're also super friendly and hard-working. I'm usually there within a week when they re-open for the season, not just for the Italian ice and ice cream but to welcome Gina and Patrick back and wish them a great year. Gina's Italian Ice is a treasured spot in the Berwyn/Oak Park area and we're lucky to have them. Support your local small businesses and bring your family to Gina's! You won't regret it!

Google
I'm so sad I've lived here for as long as I have and only tried the ices here for the first time. They were amazing! I had banana which reminded me of flavors from my childhood and horchata which is the only way I want to have horchata from now on. I can't wait to go back and try their other flavors!

Karla Arzani

Google
Loved it! I chose lemon flavor; its so good! You can taste the sweet lemon with its slices on the inside of the ice cream, the soft texture and the perfect amount of sweetness! One of the best gelatos, highly recommended! Totally coming back again:)

Google
My favorite summer time treat! I've been a patron of Gina's Italian Ice since before I can remember. Favorite flavors are Lemon and watermelon. It's cash only! So be prepared! Love Gina's!!

Zoraida

Google
I stay near the lake definitely worth the drive. I always get the lemon ice my favorite sweet n tart with pieces. They also have the best ice cream. Look forward to them every year.

Zack A

Google
Very delicious Italian ice, there is often a line here but for good reason. The price is fair, and although there is a little late, it is worth it. Highly recommend for a family or group looking for good Italian ice.

Alex P

Google
One of my top three favorite Italian ice places in Chicagoland. You can't go wrong with whatever you order, it's all delicious

Tasha Chase

Google
Me & my kids favorite spot for cool treat. Great ice cream and Italian ice. Staff is always friendly. Been coming here for over 20yrs.

Carla D.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get ice cream or Italian ice ! They also have a flavor I've never seen " horchata " Italian ice ! It was a 2 scoop waffle cone day ! PS cash only! However they do take Zelle , cash app and Venmo ! $12 for our orders

Yum Y.

Yelp
I go here for a light and refreshing treat. Fantastic for a hot day. It's the smoothest Italian ice ice tried so far. Lemon is a classic with small chunks of frozen lemon! But if you want something more interesting, try their horchata flavor or flavor of the day. Step up to the window and order. Even though there may be a line, it moves fast. Small is $3. Medium is $5. Large is $6. XL is $10. Mix & match flavors of you wish. Cash only.

Justin B.

Yelp
My Razzle Dazzle--guava mixed with lemon ice--was fantastic. My wife didn't love her strawberry (it was a berry, maybe raspberry?) nearly as much as I loved my Razzle Dazzle, to the point where I tried hers, went back to mine, and didn't make human contact again until I had emptied the cup. I don't like that Gina's doesn't take credit cards, because I don't carry cash. Maybe that's my problem, but eventually, Gina is gonna have to join the now and take those cards!!

Tommy C.

Yelp
This place has been around since we were kids. Always refreshing and delicious. Get a large, because your going to go back for more.

Noelle F.

Yelp
I stopped by today as I was running a few errands and in the area. I opted for a medium cup with lemon, mango and horchata Italian ices. All in all, it was $4. They were all delicious but my favorite was the lemon! For 3 flavors in a medium cup that is a steal! I'll definitely be back to try all the other flavors as well as for my fav!

Jose C.

Yelp
Not a big fan of Gina's Italian Ice. They get four stars for having excellent customer service and for having real fruit in both their strawberry and lemonade Italian ice, but didn't have my flavor. And what I mean about that, is it wasn't as sweet as I'd like. It's cash only and parking can be a pain most of the time. Not really sure I'd be returning as I'd had a lot better tasting Italian iced and for cheaper with more quantity.

Michelle S.

Yelp
I've been going here since I was a child with my family and we make a point to drive the hour long drive every summer to have this delicious treat!

Gift O.

Yelp
I look forward to the summertime and being able to get Italian ice from Gina's! I love that it's family-owned and they make everything themselves. There are so many flavors to choose from and even a small selection of ice cream. They take cash, Zelle, and cashapp. Looking forward to visiting as much as possible while I can. Sn the customer service is always top tier.

Luis Fernando C.

Yelp
Very unique place , opens in the summer, a family tradition, great tasting Italian ice , well recommend!!!

Karen M.

Yelp
Best darn Italian Ice in the Chicago area. We know ,because we moved to our house in 1976 when sh 1st opened! Wonderful woman wonderful ice!

Miguel G.

Yelp
Growing up in Philly, I used to get John's Water Ice in South Philly. Moving to Chicago I never dreamed I'd find Italian Ice in the Midwest. But wow Gina's Italian Ice is the best. Dare I say it ... Better than the Italian Ice I grew up on.

Nicole G.

Yelp
We popped in here to grab some fresh Italian ice at our favorite spot in the summer. We love Gina's! This small local spot really is the perfect treat on a warm day. The strawberry lemonade is my favorite hands down. You can tell it's homemade and the strawberry lemonade combo is sweet but not overpowering. It's also served EXTRA cold which is the best way to eat it :) The past few nice weekends we've seen lines a block down of people waiting to get their fix! Luckily today there was no line at all. All three associates had their masks on and were thankful for our business. About $8 for two mediums and worth every penny.

Siobhan D.

Yelp
I have to say I'm not a fan of the hundreds of photos taped to the walls, but my kids enjoy seeing their photos from years past. The Italian ice here is my favorite though so we come probably twice a month now in the spring and summer. Half-cherry or raspberry and the other half-lemon. Although watermelon is also very nice. My kids like to add ice cream to their ices. Parking is bonkers though. I tried to stop by today on my way home from work but couldn't find parking and just ended up chucking the plan to surprise everyone at home with Gina's ices. Cash only. That's another reason we sometimes skip a visit as we don't always carry cash.

Melody M.

Yelp
Ginas Italian ice is delicious! perfect for a hot summer day. I have tried Lemon, Lime and Strawberry and my favorite is lemon because it has frozen pieces of lemon which is exquisite. I highly recommend Ginas Italian ice because it's not too sweet and it tastes like it is made with real fruit.

Maronda H.

Yelp
What a beautiful day for an Italian Icee? I was driving down Roosevelt on this nice sunny Saturday. I saw a few people lounging out front of Gina's eating Italian Icee. I politely found me a park and got out of my car. I went inside to a nice family owned business. This place has been here for over 100 years. Now that speaks volume of a good business. I ordered me a small cherry/banana icee for $2.50. I wished now that I had ordered the large. Inside there are photos of many customers from over the years. You would feel welcomed the minute you walk inside. If your ever driving down Roosevelt make sure to stop in on a beautiful day like day and get yourself an Italian Icee

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Came here a while back mid July as they are temporarily closed now. I ordered a medium horchata Italian iced and it was delicious although if the medium was a lot and got sick of it after a while. Would recommend I small unless you love Italian ice or not so full.

John F.

Yelp
I have been going to this place for a long time now and slowly it's starting to disappoint. It's more like ice with flavoring and sugar. Save time and money and keep it moving.

Tiarra T.

Yelp
The Italian ice tasted as if something was added to "make it taste better" but it wasn't good in my opinion 3/10

Trina K.

Yelp
Ice flavored treats. I am a sucker for ice flavored treats. Snowballs, slushies, sno-cones and ITALIAN ICE. I cannot say no. I seek it out every chance I get and will pay a premium for it. Now that we have gotten the background information out of the way, you can better understand why I became instantly excited when learning of a highly regarded Italian Ice establishment nearby. And, it did not disappoint. I ordered a medium half lemon and half cherry. I liked the lemon more than the cherry but they were both good. There's something to be said about having little pieces of lemon in your lemon ice. The texture was great and suggests it is made fresh. I tasted the coconut and it was refreshing but not a flavor I would order. Coconut is not a favorite of mine, but it was good. IMO, it tastes better than coconut water. Please note the II here melts fast. Grab a straw or eat it right away. If not, you will be drinking it. Prices range from $2-$7 which is a small price to pay for this goodness.

Yelp
Every time I'm at a CTA train station, I often see the advertisement from the city of Berwyn. Why Berwyn? I personally don't have any intention of purchasing a property in Berwyn, but I knew I had to pay a visit to Gina's Italian Ice. Heading to the northern side of Berwyn isn't too arduous via public transportation: get off at the CTA Oak Park Blue Line station (exit through Oak Park Ave.) and head south. In approximately fifteen (15) minutes or so, Grandma Gina will be there waiting for you southeast corner of Oak Park and Roosevelt. Grandma Gina likes to count the bills, so bring your pocket cash. A small cup is $2, so it's manageable if you behave and Mommy awards you some snack money. Daddy J. wanted a medium cup of coconut ($3), so his wish was certainly granted. I'm a like sour-flavor gal, so a small cup of lemon Italian ice was just perfect! We sat at their old-school patio and commented on a Mercedes Benz convertible passing by on Roosevelt. Their Italian ice was great, but I prefer the one at Mario's just by a little bit (Trust me! The difference was very, very minute). If you like ultra-smooth Italian Ice lemonade, Gina's is it! Bye now, Granny Gina, till next time...

Yelp
Such a great amazing home town staple for Italian Ice and deserts. I believe it has been in business for over 43 years now and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I had a large half watermelon half lemon and it was phenomenal. If your ever in the neighborhood I would highly recommend you give it a whirl.

Jackie A.

Yelp
I love love love this place, I've been coming here since a child. One thing I do miss is the chocolate Italian ice, I wish they would bring it back permanently. I used to go get half chocolate half strawberry.

Lisa A.

Yelp
It's so artificial it's just Kool-aid sweetened ice. It tastes like a snow cone but the consistency is what you expect from Italian ice. There's no restrooms in the store and they only accept cash. I don't know how they can stay in business except there is no where else that is close by.

Francisco A.

Yelp
You can never go wrong with Gina's. This establishment has been serving delicious Italian ice for many years and the quality has never changed. I love how they incorporate new flavors every month to switch things up. The staff is very friendly and coming here for dessert is always a good idea.

Daniela H.

Yelp
The first time I came here, I got raspberry and watermelon... I wasn't impressed. They both tasted like bubblegum to me, but I came again because I wanted to give it another chance. The guava flavor this time is amazing, you have to try it!!!! The mango is more like orange lol but we will see which flavor is next!

Ryan C.

Yelp
We stopped by Gina's on one of the odd nice days so far this spring/summer. They had a great selection of flavors and you can mix and match as desired. The service was friendly and helpful, giving us lots of tastes before choosing our flavors. I went with the classic lemon which was really tasty. Would highly recommend this place during a summer heatwave or when you're craving something cool and icy! The street parking in this area is hit or miss.

Leonard W.

Yelp
Coming for someone who's childhood has been distorted with blue raspberry Icee Push Up's. I'll say I do like Gina's, but not ready to give them the crown for best Italian Ice just yet. (don't worry ICEE isn't holding it down either.) The taste was very FRESH!. the first two samples I was thinking this is tad water down, as I'm use to it being, well hard as ICE. The texture in the Italian ice was smoother then what I found from other's that make Italian ice. Recently Lazza Italian Ice has been my go to brand but they have like a fiz/syrup like flavor that reminds me of Nehi soda a tad. Gina left me with more of a natural crisp like taste. Gina's made me feel like the lifesaver commercial from 1994 (google that and tell me I'm wrong.) Small ($2) medium ($3) large($5) and jumbo ($7) Cash only. Parking sucks pray for spot in front or park in the CVS directly across the street

Steven E.

Yelp
The quality and charm are both great! It's nice to find a family place making the best Italian ice I've ever had. Plenty of flavors, plus weekly specials, and good window service. It's probably a good idea to bring cash, but they also take Zelle.

Cecilie S.

Yelp
Went here for the first time today got the mango strawberry and was super disappointed it tasted like watered down orange and the strawberry was whatever . I tried to give it another chance and tried the flavors my sister got still wasn't impressed the flavors are just awful it's not real Italian ice in my opinion ..m.. just sugar ice and watered down flavor no actual fruit not even refreshing just bland ice with lots of sugar Im usually open to lots of desserts and foods but this wasn't it sadly... should have gotten a ice cream or something but it's a cute shop !

Jose R.

Yelp
My cousin compared this place to Mario's in the city... It's not even close! My daughter, who never complains about ice cream or food, said it was a no-go and didn't eat it. Tastes like sugar water with a hint of fruit.

Anne W.

Yelp
One of my favorite signs of summer: Gina's is open again! Nothing as refreshing as an Italian ice on a hot day, especially one that's made with big chunks of real fruit. At Gina's you can tell it's also made with love, by a little old Italian lady you secretly wish was your grandmother. Or maybe not so secretly. Walk up to the window with your pup in tow and pretty soon someone will slide it open to take your order. Get the watermelon for sure, maybe with lemon. And don't forget your cash: after 40 years without taking credit cards, I can't imagine they will start any time soon! Once you have your frozen deliciousness in hand, skip the chairs out front on noisy Roosevelt and walk about a block east and half a block north to the little park. Sit under a tree with Fido, and enjoy a little bite/slurp of summer heaven.

Mary Lou B.

Yelp
Best italian ice with many unique flavored options to choose from.

Maryanne O.

Yelp
What little flavor there is to the lemon Italian ice is artificial. Disappointing. Sadly, hard to find genuine, natural product these days. Will stick to making at home.

Aline G.

Yelp
This place is seriously overrated, no flavor whatsoever. As an out of towner I decided to try this place and what a total disappointment. None of the flavors we tried tasted like the "fruit" they claimed to be it was so blan, lacking flavor its like eating ice. Plus the prices are hideous. Skip this place!

Julie L.

Yelp
This place is so dope!!! The most delicious Italian ice, nice service, inexpensive, and there are even a few places to sit. Hooray!

Erik W.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go in the summer when I'm visiting my relatives - this place brings back so many happy memories. My favorite flavor is lemon and strawberry followed by watermelon. They use real bits of fruit in their recipe so you know it's good. This year they had a seasonal pomegranate flavor that was great. The inside is small but there are some chairs inside and out. The workers and owners are always pleasant to talk to. Love this place.

Marilyn S.

Yelp
Great experience and delicious Italian ice...I must say I was impressed especially with the horchata flavor. It was great to see the owner helping around and interacting with the customers. Very welcoming and cozy, especially seeing the wall full of pictures showing all the different happy and satisfied customers, plus a quick flash back of the old Berwyn area. Will be returning soon to try the rest of the flavors.

Stef R.

Yelp
Super quality, delicious flavors. Complete passion for the business. This was a summer staple from my childhood and now I get to take my kids there. The inside reminds you of being at a lake house or something. A place that brings you down to earth and reminds you to enjoy the simpler things in life.

Ray P.

Yelp
Right down the street from Fitzgerald's sits this wonderful Italian Ice place, so if it's summer and you're off for a show, make sure to stop by Gina's first. If you're not going to Fitzgerald's, it's worth the trip from anywhere you are on the North, Northwest or West side of the city, if you're looking for a summer time treat. Situated on a major thoroughfare like Roosevelt Rd, parking sucks ass. My favorite is the cantaloupe. And the strawberry. The chocolate is good, too. And...

Andrea I.

Yelp
I've always loved this place but all this year the older bald man was very rude ever time I would go in rude short attitude not kind at all but when someone who is WHITE would come in he was the nicest person ever to them didn't let me try any flavors only then.

Julia M.

Yelp
Today was the first day the temps hit above 70, and one of my first thoughts was "Gina's might be open!" It's that good. I've had most of the flavors- I haven't tried chocolate or strawberry. The only one I've actually disliked was mango, as it tastes super artificial. They should actually remove it from their menu. You absolutely can't go wrong with lemon and watermelon, so I suggest you try those first. Cantaloupe and coconut are also great. If you can't decide, you can do half and half in any size. Also, they stay pretty well in the freezer, so feel free to take some for later.

Jennine I.

Yelp
I didn't enjoy any of the flavors. it didn't seem to resemble the fruit flavor described, in my opinion. I mean the lemon ice was decent, but when you get into the melon flavors, it's a miss.

Heather M.

Yelp
Most fantastic Italian Ice, staff was awesome!!! If you tip, they are so sweet and ask if you would like a song, you can pick out a song and its so sweet they will sing it to you - will return!

Mel C.

Yelp
Best Italian ice ever!! I have been coming here since I was a little girl. I love there watermelon ice or coconut it's really refreshing and quenches thirst not like ice cream which makes someone more thirsty. If you are in town stop by and Taste dirt cheap. CASH ONLY

Jessica A.

Yelp
I grew up in Berwyn! We could not wait until they open their doors for the season! This is a must have if you are in the area.

Pamela W.

Yelp
I have been passing by this place for over 16 yrs & never stopped in until today. They had so many different Italian ices. I had the mango & lemon ice. It wasn't like some of the other ices I've had that taste like syrup but it was refreshing! My nephew & I sat outside & talked for a long while just eating our ice & enjoying the scenery. I will surely go back again. Even after the ice had melted it still tasted like refreshing lemonade.

Rick M.

Yelp
Gina's is incredible. Been going here since I was a kid. Use to go to the at one Perishing and Harlem. Every summer there is nothing I look forward to more than Gina's. My favorite is lemon with watermelon. My wife from Bloomington never had anything like this before. She knew about Mario's on Taylor and I told her that's garbage and we're going to Gina's. She loved it! The ice cream here is also pretty good, but let's face it you came for the Italian ice! This place is the epitome of nostalgia for me!

Xenu M.

Yelp
Insanely good. We got a combo of strawberry and lemonade and it hit the spot on a hot summer day. We will definitely return.

Alyssa S.

Yelp
After spending the last 5 hours in the emergency room with my two year old I feel obligated to write my first Yelp review ever. In hopes that this business will take a serious look at educating their staff about food allergies. I specifically asked the young girl behind the counter if there was any EGG in their Italian Ice. She confidently answered no and even chuckled a little bit. I explained my son has a sever food allergy. There was also 2 other staff members behind the counter and neither of them corrected her. 15 minutes later my son was projectile vomiting, having shortness of breath and his mouth was swelling. We immediately called 911 from the CVS across the street. When the ambulance arrived I could not provide any info bc I did not believe my son had ingested any egg. We spent the next 5 hours in the emergency room with my 2 year old twin sons until we were released to go home. I don't want anything but for this business to educate their staff and post the ingredients of all their offerings in a book that staff and guests alike can refer to. I work in the hospitality industry so this is a very serious issue. One that I hope this establishment does not take lightly.

Carl F.

Yelp
Should I ever choose to relocate to another suburb, it would surely be Berwyn for the win. At the top of my reasons for wanting to move to Berwyn would lie a sweet little Italian ice shop called 'Gina's'. As a kid my parents would always take us here for our choice of one Italian ice and a container of lupini beans. I would always get the original lemon flavor with the hearty lemon chunks mixed in, while my brother would always get something daring like watermelon, cantaloupe, pina colada, red raspberry, or even banana. Now that I'm an adult and know that I should watch what I eat, I order every damn flavor I want to... because I also know that life's way too short to not stuff your pie hole with all the Italian ice flavors your little heart desires... oh, and don't forget the lupini beans. In my opinion, the best Italian Ice around and if you're not in the mood to stuff yourself silly with huge amounts of Italian ice but still want to try lots of flavors, you can get a small taster OR ask Gina and her crew to do a little scoop of each of the flavors in your cup (rainbow style). Trust me, they're just as delicious mixed.
