I went with my family ,as we were visiting Salem. The best part was no wait 🤪🤪. The food lacked taste and presentation. Sushi felt like frozen. The server was sad. My parents took a drink which they said was good.

Google
Hard to believe the negative reviews, we came in for lunch on a Saturday in Nov, no wait and excellent view of the little square outside. Food was fresh and fast! (And reasonably priced for a tourist area) Service was very good. Our server made really good recommendations and made a few stops back to make sure we had everything we needed. (I ate half the beef dumplings before I thought to take a photo)

Google
Ginger Cajun in Salem was an okay experience overall. It’s located in downtown Salem and is super busy, which adds to the lively atmosphere. They have a bar inside, and it felt like they were more focused on the people at the bar, which might explain the slow service we experienced. We tried the fried rice, lamb chops, and a couple of appetizers. The food was decent, but nothing particularly special. We asked for the dishes to be spicy, but they turned out mild, which was a bit disappointing. If you’re not in a hurry and just looking for a casual meal, it might be worth a try.

Google
The bag meal was fantastic, we also got the shrimp po boy. So good. The mimosas were also worth going for. The Saturday night karaoke was also very fun.

Google
Delicious food and great service. Loved the Singapore noodles which had loads of delicious curry flavor, and the ramen was just as delicious. Would highly recommend giving Ginger Cajun a try if you’re in Salem and craving some good Asian food.

Google
Food was very flavorful. Anytime my water got low, immediately waitress came out and refilled it. Friendly and calm atmosphere.

Google
Ordered take out couple times before, but haven't eaten there yet. It's so chic and clean inside. Love the lights. The food was really good. The juicy bun and duck fried rice were outstanding. And the ramen is very good too. It's really nice to find a decent Asian restaurant in downtown Salem. Definitely will come here often!❤️❤️

When we arrived there was no wait (at 7pm on a October-in-Salem Sunday ====> red flag). We were a party of 4. She immediately sat us in the middle of walkway between the bar and a row of booths. The tables were also broken. I asked if we could be sat at the booth behind us (empty, seats 4) or another table. I was told the manager said no, so they began to cram some cardboard under the broken table to try to fix it. It didn't work. Then, throughout the duration of our visit, we were all hit by passing people, either with bags or coats, yet another reason why we didn't want to sit in the middle of this walkway. Our apps and entrees all came out at once. I had crab cakes, which were mediocre. The menu is extensive, which is another flaw of theirs. At the end of the evening the booth behind us that sat 4 remained empty, as it had been since we arrived, as were others around the restaurant. The mens room was very unkept and the door was propped wide open. Anyone dining in the back of the restaurant could see right in at anyone using the urinal. Gentle reminder: YOU ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE THE 20% GRATUITY REMOVED FROM YOUR BILL. You legally do not have to pay it. They are required to remove it if you ask and then you can put your own, if any. PHOTOS: our terrible table w/ the cardboard and in the middle of a walkway VS the empty booth literally right behind us. Won't be back.

Yelp
I stopped by this spot because it looked pretty big, I was craving some oysters, and it was just across from the Witches House. We went during October when Salem is super crowded. Luckily, the restaurant wasn't packed when we got there. We were seated right away, placed our orders, and the food came out fast. The food was okay, but nothing to write rave about. I'm taking off 2 stars because when the bill came is when I found out they automatically add a 20% tip during October. The food and service didn't really justify that kind of tip.

Alessandra R.

Yelp
Randomly stopped here for lunch during our annual trip to Salem. Inside was a bit crowded so we decided to go with outside dinning, even though it was chilly outside. To drink I got the witches' brew. I was disappointed it was served in an ugly plastic cup, but got over it, because it was tasty and sour to my liking. We shared wings and spicy beef dumplings. The wings were fresh and had a nice crispy crunch to it. The dumplings were in a chili oil and could of been spicier but were still very tasty. The food came out quick and the waiter did a good job. I wouldn't mind coming here again.

Nancy C.

Yelp
We order bao and chicken wings. The plain wings were crispy and flavorful. I had the pork bao the bread was soft and the pork was seasoned beautifully. The onion rings were crunch and fresh served With ranch sauce. There is something for everyone here. Plenty of seating. Clean. The service was very slow service but there was only one server for inside and an outside seating. Parking is difficult. They do not have a parking lot. On street meter parking 25cents for 10 minutes.. A little pricey. I came here because I missed having bao.

Yelp
I was in Salem w/ my sis & her bf. We decided to eat here for a late lunch. There was a long wait for tables inside so I said let's sit outside. I thought the fire pit towers would be turned on but they weren't. It was too cold outside & we didnt want to wait b/c we were hungry. The waiter was ready to go. He was very attentive! I ordered a miso soup to warm up & California rolls. My sister ordered the spicy beef dumplings steamed & 2 alcoholic beverages. Her bf ordered chicken wings & 2 alcoholic beverages. We were keeping it light. I didn't want to be overstuffed walking. In Salem there's a lot of walking. Everyone tried each others dish (except the miso soup of course). The spicy beef dumplings were ok. They weren't even spicy & it was a little oily to my liking. The chicken wings were pretty good. I'm a flats kind of girl so I tried one. What's your fave flats or drums? lol. The chicken wings were extra crispy along w/ a juicy inside. My miso soup was ok it needed more seaweed. The sushi was alright, too. It was stacked up w/ avocado & crab meat. Yum! I can usually eat a sushi roll in one bite. I couldn't w/ these. Overall, nice spot!

Yelp
On my last day in Salem, I had a very bad headache with nausea so for dinner I wanted ramen or just a warm soup. Walked to Ginger which is just down the block from our hotel. I guess the food is so-so because there was not wait time, got seated right away. We ordered a chicken fried rice and a pork ramen. I enjoyed the warm broth but ramen tasted like packaged noodles. Fried rice was good tasting. Service was quick & friendly. We sat by the window so we got to people watch! We watched 3 ladies dressed as witches from Hocus Pocus taking photos with everyone. Ahhh, Salem miss you already! Ginger has a bit of flavor for everyone from Chinese food, Japanese food, Cajun food. If you want variety it is here at Ginger!

Whitney M.

Yelp
We went in for drinks & a quick snack. The oysters, green dragon roll, shrimp lomein, & Sneaky Lychee drink were spectacular! The waitress was friendly & attentive. The restaurant & restrooms were clean & modern.

Yelp
The challenge with Salem in October is trying to find a place to eat that doesn't have a line around the corner. So when this place had no lines I figured it was either a hidden gem, or there were no lines for good reason. This place needs to decide what it is. Is it a restaurant, is it a hip place for overpriced drinks or is it a sports bar? It's truly unclear. What is clear is that overall it specializes in generally bland food. I hope there is an understanding of preparation and even an attempt at presentation, the lack of flavor made me wonder if I was starting to come down with Covid. (For the record, no, I don't have Covid; the food is just that tasteless.) The two stars are for the polite and attentive wait staff, and the fact that the lack of a line made it quick and easy to get into on a rainy October afternoon. The ability to sit down for a meal is something ... just don't expect anything to write home about.

Maggie Z.

Yelp
It is the best place to eat on the Salem Main Street if you don't want to wait in line! There seems to be very limited seating inside, as we were directed outside even though it was raining and the heaters did not work. It was fairly cold the entire meal. Aside from facing the weather, the food service was quick and convenient! With many vegetarian-friendly options, this is definitely the place to stop if you need a quick meal that can cater to a diverse group!

Jesalyn R.

Yelp
Cold calamari and the saddest ramen ever Literally just a ripped bok choy, 3 slivers of green onion, & greyish pork. It's not advertised but there is an extra fee for visiting in October to beware of and included 20% gratuity charge. This place is kept alive by tourists who don't know any better

Florence C.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place and had high hopes. I feel like it's only in business because its RIGHT in front of Historic Salem. The dim sum (har gow and shiu mai) were cool to warm, hardly any flavor and honestly tasted like it came from a frozen package. The rice noodles came out hot but lacked a lot of flavor. Service was fair. Atmosphere was good. Will not be coming back here :(

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS HORRENDOUS. first of all, our waiter thought we were annoying by asking simple questions about the menu. second of all, they never came to the table. third of all, the food came out in less than 10 minutes. RED FLAG!!! my chicken was not cooked all the way. if i leave here and i have food poising or fucking SALMONELLA, i'm suing this place. if you're in salem and see this place, do not come here. there's a reason why this place doesn't have a line out the door. i ordered sesame chicken and white rice (which i had to pay for SEPARATELY???) and only maybe 6 pieces of chicken were on my plate. mind you this meal was THIRTY DOLLARS. i can get something better at a chinese spot by my house back in new fucking jersey. FOR MAYBE 10 DOLLARS!!!!!! DO. NOT. COME. HERE. edit: also how can i forget that we were going to order calamari and the waiter said "nah don't get that, it's not even good. people don't even touch it when they get it" HELLO???

Ben S.

Yelp
I went here to show my brother's new girlfriend Salem. This was the place with the shortest line. It became rapidly apparent why there was. My brother's girlfriend's shrimp entree was raw. The dumplings we ordered for apps were cold, and the sauce was bland. My brother's ramen was tasteless - on par with instant ramen with a bit of shrimp thrown in. I ordered a spicy seafood bag, and the waitress gave me a mild one. Some of the crawfish was undercooked. We waited half an hour for our check. To top it all off, there was an unannounced 20% service charge onto our bill. Just an absolute disaster all-around.

Ryan L.

Yelp
We were there around 4pm and I thought it would have been busier, we didn't check the review now I know why. The Ramen was bland. There was at least five staff members standing around which was five too many for the bathroom to not be clean and have no hand soap. Yes it's a busy time of yeah for them, but if your staff is not doing anything that's not an excuse.

Madeline B.

Yelp
Great place close to home for some delicious crab.Prices are too high though. Two clusters of snow crab should not be over 40$. If you want to sacrifice a nice setting for a better deal go to king crab on route one! Or just to Rhode Island in general. Ginger you're great but at least do a deal once a week! Also: allow us to combine all our sauces!!

Sarah S.

Yelp
We came in for a quick snack as a group of 6. The restaurant was completely empty. Yet we received the slowest service. The waitress didn't check back on us at all. We waited over 30 minutes for the check while the waitress was in the back. We had to ask the bartender to pay us out since we didn't see her again. They added on a 20% tip since we were a "bigger" party. I would've left nothing if possible. Something big to note, as we were leaving someone in our party went to the bathroom as the same time as our waitress and she didn't wash her hands. Just straight up walked out of the bathroom. The food wasn't even close to being worth how slow the service is.

Briel M.

Yelp
Everything was DELICIOUS! I had the vegetable lo mein and the spicy beef dumplings. Everything was packed full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Friends had sushi and ramen and raved about both. Service was friendly and fast. Definitely worth the visit if you're in or around Salem.

Virginia K Mendez M.

Yelp
Didn't get a chance to taste their food, ( I was alone as my family and I had gotten separated for a short while.) I waited to be seated as I watched others come in and get seated right away. I even asked some of the patrons if they had reservations, and they said they didn't. After 3 other patrons came in and were seated right away I decided to leave. Well, I'm not the one that look at things from a perspective of how you're dressed, how tall or short you are, or even what color you are, but I beg the difference that the owner or management had a different perspective. I was dressed appropriately, spoke respectfully, maybe my height or could it be my brown skin color? makes me go Uhmmmmm. The owner or management should be Ashamed of themselves. They knew well what they were doing. we traveled far to come to these attractions in Salem, Mass. You can count on my family and friends not ever visit this establishment in the future. THUMBS DOWN

Francisca B.

Yelp
The food was way overpriced and the quality was not as equal as the price. Lunch for 2 was almost $100.if you can find any other Asian food, better go somewhere else.

Liz B.

Yelp
The service was slow but she was nice. The fried shrimp dim sum were lacking shrimp, were very greasy, and the sauce was flat. The calamari was so chewy and the cajun seasoning seamed out of place. The lettuce wraps we decent but the sauce was also thick and really flat in the flavor. Asian and Cajun fusion is a big ask and this seemed to moss the mark.

Yanina C.

Yelp
This is officially the worst Asia restaurant I've been too, food is tasteless and service is with attitude. What we ordered: ramen, wantons, oysters , spring roll ( how can you f up oysters boggles my mind)

Georgia C.

Yelp
Great service, great food, good time! I am with a group of 6 people on Friday at 4pm! Service was good, and the menu is expansive. I got the crab cakes 8/10 and pork buns 8/10 and really enjoyed them. One person got the sesame chicken 9/10 and it was delicious. Another got the chicken fried rice, said he gave it a 6/10. Chicken hoy it 6/10. Sticky rice chicken dim sum 8.5/10. Ramen was about a 8/10. Great place overall! Would go again to try more items on the menu. We ate everything on our plates!

Jesus G.

Yelp
This place sucked, server was unattentive. Fried rice was undercooked, they can't split the check three ways? I would not recommend this dog shit. A McDonald's toilet would be a better source of food.

Zariat A.

Yelp
Listen, food was mid. But do yourself the most amazing favor and order the sneaky lychee cocktail. Drink a few before you go on a walking tour and the Salem magic will really come out.

Tara M.

Yelp
Service was fine but all of our food tasted bland. I got the lobster tails thinking anywhere in New England would be good seafood. WRONG! The lobsters looked like shriveled up shrimp and the meat was hard as a rock. Almost like it was frozen and not cooked all the way. The meat and 1 little potato that came with it were super bland. Oh and it cost $70 for that meal! Theres a reason why there was no line to get in. Should have known.

Nate C.

Yelp
I ordered the shrimp ramen and it was the most bland thing I've probably ever eaten. I thought I was being dramatic until my friend tried it and almost didn't swallow it. She ordered lobster tails and the lobster meat was hard and flavorless. She didn't even eat half of her meal and it was $70. Our waitress was nice though.

Liz C.

Yelp
Bill with 20% included tip was $204, which is fine. I was overcharged by $68 after spending that much (charged $272). I disputed the $68 with the wait staff that charged me and was told that it would be corrected. Waiting to see but they shouldn't have made such a huge mistake! They better refund me and only charge what was correct!

Veronica E.

Yelp
Canadian here! Went to Salem for a friends trip! If you don't feel like reading, a brief summary is this: (Scroll down for my rating scale!) - Food 4/10 - Price 7/10 - Interior 7/10 - Service 2/10 The food was nothing crazy, but ok to eat -- the calamari was not great. My plate specifically was bland, it tasted as if the noodles were just barely seasoned. It was ok. The shrimp was very under seasoned, gave the impression it was just thrown at the end after being boiled. The biggest problem I had with this place was the staff. Although our waitress was nice, we had many difficulties with our her because of her English not being very strong. That being said, 2 of our friends had to leave early with their baby and paid with the waitress at the counter near the door. When it was time for the rest of us to pay, my friend got her sisters bill added on. We didn't know she paid at the entrance so my friend paid the bill she received. Later that night, my friend called her sister letting her know she forgot to pay. Her sister argued and said that their meals were paid for with cash before they left. We ended up going back before they closed and spoke to the waitress explaining the situation (we weren't upset at this point, simply looking for a refund on an easily explainable situation). We had to have the manager called because the waitress seemed to be confused and denied it. After the manager came, we struggled for another 20 minutes explaining what happened as he wasn't clearly understanding and when he did was questioning our waitress who seemed to be denying it again. (They spoke to each other in their native language.) This is where we began getting frustrated so we had to ask him to pull out the cash bills for the night as proof. Although my friend who paid credit wanted it refunded on card, she ended up receiving it cash as it seemed too complicated to get it back with the machine. This MAJOR inconvenience and left a sour taste in our mouth for the experience as a whole. Food doesn't have to be fantastic to have a good time. Our drinks were strong, we were in a another country, as friends, having fun as a group; this review would have gone much differently if it had not been for this incident. -- My Rating Scale : (As someone who isn't picky with food but brutally honest!) I do, however, have a high standard for quality of service. 10 - Perfect, 0 Complaints 9: Amazing 8: Great 7: Decent 6: Good 5: Average 4: Plain 3: Bad 2: Awful 1: Horrendous

Brian F.

Yelp
Nice place, service was polite and friendly, The food was promptly served with the right amount of time between appetizers and main course. The restaurant has nice decor with high back booths making for a nice atmosphere.

James C.

Yelp
While the staff at the Ginger Cajun Seafood was terrific, I strongly suggest trying another restaurant! The food went from mediocre, Cajun fries and gumbo, to terrible, salmon special, and finally inedible, a rotten sweet potato fry. The salmon, at $28 for the plate, tasted more canned sardine than fresh salmon! The fish in the photo is as presented, just missing one filet. It was about a 1/4" thick and very fishy. The orange mas at the top of the plate was a very rotten sweet potato fry.

Dianne B.

Yelp
I don't like to leave bad reviews but what we experienced at Ginger was truly unusual! We walked into the (nearly) empty restaurant and took a seat at the bar. We waited for about 15 minutes looking at the menu the hostess provided and started to get frustrated with the lack of service. I turned my head to see what was causing the delay and the bartender was poised on the inside of the bar talking to local friends and eating a large Asian meal with food falling out of his mouth. He was obviously hungry, but was not on a break. Honestly, it was a real turnoff. I felt like shouting... maybe when you finish your dinner do you think you could get us a drink? Instead, we quietly stood up and walked out and had a great meal at Bambolina.

Nareesa R.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place zero stars. But I guess the one star is for the patient and nice waitress. My party consisted of 6 people. First and foremost, the food. The food was not edible, most of my party did not eat or finish their food. Two people of my party ordered the chicken fried rice, they should just rename it the boiled chicken rice because that's what it was. A true disgrace to fried rice. The "fried" rice had little to absolutely no seasoning/flavor and the chicken was boiled. White boiled chicken, not even pepper flakes. The fried shrimp basket was not a basket and it consisted of 5 shrimps with a cusp of unseasoned fries. The "cajun" fries were just basic bar fries with cajun dust on top... As for the sushi, two separate people ordered two different rolls, the shrimp tempura roll and the sunrise roll. The rolls came on the same plate even though they're two separate orders. The sushi could be described in three words: average, basic and terrible. My friend that ordered the shrimp tempura threw up shorty after eating. As for the drinks, I ordered a pina colda which was good, the mango sunrise mock tail which was a watered down version of costcos mango nectar, we ordered to Prosecco cosmo which was straight alcohol with no cranberry juice and the IPA was foamy. Eating at a restaurant where you are paying for both service and food, you'd expect the experience and food to be at least good or even subpar. My party and I traveled from New York to experience Salem and get some decent Asian food. This establishment was disappointing entirely. If you value your money and your time and your stomach, please avoid.

Naomi N.

Yelp
Worst Roman I have ever had noodles were so under cooked my little brother choked and we had to perform the Heimlich then our server walked over and asked if everything tasted well as she saw he just choked

Jessica S.

Yelp
We are visiting Salem and ate here after a guided tour. The food was delicious and they made a bomb ass Moscow mule. The restaurant is clean and a cool atmosphere. The staff are very professional.

Ann P.

Yelp
Overpriced and below average food .. not worth it the ambiance was ok the bathroom was super dirty but the service was great very friendly staff .. sucks the food wasn't good

Anthony C.

Yelp
What a horrid, putrid place. How is this place still open. Tourists! Stay away! Service was horrendous but sometimes that can be forgiven is the food is good...but alas it wasn't. We both had the ramen...served in some bland white broth that tasted like lukewarm milk. The appetizers tasted microwaved to boot. Oh and of course they probably know about their horrible service, which is why they automatically add an 18% gratuity. Yup...for a party of 2! Horrible place....just horrible

Tina T.

Yelp
I ate here on a day trip to Salem and the idea of cajun food sounded amazing. I did not expect an Asian restaurant that had cajun food but my shrimp gumbo was such a pleasant surprise. It was very good. I skso got a seafood bag of garlic butter crawfish. I felt i got a good amount of crawfish. Servicev was attentive. Happy I stopped in.

Andy T.

Yelp
I went there with my girlfriend today for late lunch worse restaurant atmosphere I even seen . The staff there was was treated horrible by management. No wounded why the place is beyond dead. Don't waste your time or your money at this place .

Tara C.

Yelp
The food is bland as all get out. Fried rice is literally just white boiled rice with unseasoned plain chicken. Their fried cheese sticks tasted freezer burnt. The chicken Roman was like some noodle in water with unseasoned boiled chicken. And to top the bad food off the service is awful. We walked in and there was only one other couple and the bartender/waiter was good but then someone he knew with a baby walked in and he didn't even look back over to check our drinks or anything.

Jay W.

Yelp
Just look at that photo of the seafood "bag" with delicious, HUGE crawdads and shrimp. I haven't found such good seafood north of Kentucky before so this was a welcome surprise. I visited on a Monday night when the crowd was beyond thin (maybe five others in a dining room/bar that could hold 100+). The dining room and bar is clean and well-organized, and the bar is well-stocked. I ordered a gin-and-tonic (not on the "speciality cocktails list" by any means) and it was passable, but that drink alone cost this spot a star. The food was wonderful--exactly the flavor and spice combo required to please this Southern boy who grew up on Gulf shrimp and Louisiana crawdads. Once I switched to bottled beer (better for a crawdad boil anyway) I was in my happy place. I never saw a bartender to speak of--a definite "need" in a place like this. But if you stick with bottled beer or wine, you'll be fine.

Kathy C.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Our waitress made sure my Mai Tai was the best ever! Love the atmosphere. Wish we had this place in Georgia!

Mark W.

Yelp
Lets be honest, there is nothing fusion about this restaurant. They have some common chinese-american dishes and some "cajun" dishes. Nothing is "fused". Nothing is particularly special. The food wasn't exactly spectacular either. We ordered two forms of Po' boys and the protein was lacking, the sandwiches were small and they couldn't even fill up on cheap fries. It was extremely disapponting. They have two things going for them, very friendly waiters and a good location. Just be aware, they tack on an automatic 20% gratuity on EVERY bill. It is written on the menu and the hostess even tried to inform us prior to signing. Most restaurants only tack on that part if it is for parties of 6 or more....

Mitchell M.

Yelp
Shrimp was 75% coating, and they refused to correct the issue and charged me with an inedible meal

Christie R.

Yelp
Everything was excellent and very tasty. Clam chowder was meaty and the gumbo (we got the sausage)a very good.... and I don't typically like gumbo, but thought I'd try it. I'm glad I did! The spicy beef dumplings were simply amazing and the General Gao shrimp very tasty. I would definitely recommend this place. Sorry I didn't get picture of everything or before we started eating... it was so good! Service is excellent and atmosphere is casual.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Spotless! Large wrap around bar. Big TVs for sports enthusiasts. Food was quick and yummy. We ordered two apps and two meals. They have a full bar and local drafts too. I would definitely come back. The soft shell crab was the best I've ever had. If you like blue crab dont go without trying it!

Zlatan R.

Yelp
I ate with my friends we split the 2 crab cake orders and fried shrimp and 3 drinks the food was actually not bad a bit overpriced but still good we had 3 alcoholic drinks mine was good when i got the check i noticed the server charged me for 2 even though i had one and another big thing was the gratuity is included 20% i almost added another 20% but the bartender let me Know its included ...no i will probably not be back

Alice O.

Yelp
I and my friends came to visit Salem at Saturday, had lunch at this cajun restaurant, october was busy for every restaurant, their waiters were polite and treated us well, i love their seafood bags, very Delicious hand caught seafood, good cocktail ,(witch's Brew for 2) ,very good asian food , 20% tip has been written on the menu. When paying the bill, the waiter also said that the 20% tip is only in October, and it is still circled on the bill. I can understand that because October is too busy, this is very good, no cheating, convenient We save time! I will come again for the lobster seafood bag.

Karen M.

Yelp
This place is excellent - the food is absolutely delicious! And the restaurant is spotless. I saw another reviewer mentioned the 20% tip was already added on just for the month of October. This was clearly written on the menu and by our server. We were given the option to adjust it - and give more or less. Personally, this saved me time paying and being able to go onto our next sight to see while we were in Salem for the day!

Jeff P.

Yelp
New, really solid spot for Asian cuisine in Salem. Wasn't sure what to expect since there are hardly any reviews, but good stuff all around. Shared some ramen, gyozas and general gaus chicken with my fiance and we'll definitely return. Good service and solid food.

Lana L.

Yelp
The ambiance is chill. The food was ok. Wish I had a filled plate for the amount I was paying for. I know that MA is expensive but if you want repeat customers, it has to add up and be worth it. The drinks though are really good. The service was ok. I went during the day by the way. I have no idea what's it like at night, so I can't comment about that.
