I really had hoped that this place had turned around (before the whole Restaurant Impossible thing, it had terrible service and the food was 'meh'). Since it's been several years, we decided we'd give it another try....by doing a carry-out (baby steps). I click on the Take Out tab on their website and I get a page that says online ordering is closed right now. Closed? On a Saturday at 7 pm? I'm guessing they never actually had online ordering. It's 2022 .....who doesn't have online ordering? So I called and had to listen to a 3 minute voicemail recording before it finally told me to hit zero if i wanted to talk to someone. (Maybe they simply don't get a lot of carry out orders? It should be the 1st option they offer you). A girl answers the phone and I told her that I'd like to order 2 Dozen wings-- (as in 24). She says the Monkey Wings? (I'm thinking, well since Monkey Wings are the only wings you've got I'm unsure why you're asking) But yes, I say. And I'd like 1 Dozen to be Buffalo and the other Dozen to be Habanero. She says o.k thanks and goes to hang up. I have to quickly ask, how long before it's ready? She says about 15 minutes. To be safe, I leave 25 minutes later. When I arrive there's no one at the front podium. I wait around a few minutes when a girl comes up and I give her the name. She says o.k. I'll go get it, then turns around and comes back and says she'll 'meet me at the bar' since that's where I have to pay. So I go over to the bar. A couple different bartenders asked me what the name on the order was, what did I have, etc. A manager then comes from the kitchen, walks by and says "Oh they're just now packaging up your order". O.k., I would've hoped 30 mins would've been enough time that it would've been ready, but whatever. The girl from the front podium finally comes out and sets my order on a bar chair over at the waitresses ordering station and says the girl at the terminal there will have me pay. So this gal starts trying to presumably type in what I'd ordered so she can cash me out, when I hear the manager, (now behind the bar and down in the middle of the bar), hollering at me "$51.89!!!" I say "Huh?" He hollers again $51.89. So I guess now I'm paying him instead of this gal. Apparently, there's no standard process of doing carry-outs because no one seemed to know who was doing what or how. It was confusing just to watch.
All said and done, we get home-- there are 16 wings. NOT 24 as I'd ordered. Which means someone in my family now ain't eating. So apparently the gal that took my order either paid ZERO attention to what I had said when she wrote my order (typically they serve by the Lb not by dozen) or the kitchen screwed up and didn't actually give me the 24 that she had written. Regardless, they didn't give what I asked for which resulted in a trip to Mcdonalds to get more food. On top of that, the Cauliflower salad that's supposed to come with a honey mustard vinaigrette came with NO dressing at all. Good thing i happened to have some balsamic at home. The wings were meaty and pretty tasty, but the buffalo ones were drowning in Buffalo sauce. And the cauliflower salad was just 'meh'...i would not order it again or recommend it. Maybe it's better if it's actually got dressing. To summarize, Ginger Monkey is not any better than it was a few years ago-- so we will be not be going back ever, lesson learned. The only saving grace was that we were smart enough to carry-out and didn't bother to actually go sit down to eat. Based on the other reviews, I think we would've had even more to write about service. :(
